Hello.
I am a newbie to this site....I have been messing around with my Nexus One, have been through a few different ROMs with it, but i ended up going back to the CM 6.1.0 RC2 as of today, runs a lot more stable and faster then other ROMs I was using. I am currently running the Kernel that it came with but am asking if anyone is using a different Kernel that seems to be running well with the CM 6.1.0 RC2...Any opinions will be greatly appreciated as i am new to this forum.
Been running wildmonks for some time and they seem to have a great following. They overclock a bit more and are extremely stable. There are 4 basic kernels to choose from and he does a good job in the OP describing the differences. Right now, i am on the AVS-BFS one and it has been working fantastic. I chose BFS over CFS, after running both, as i am more of a texter than web browser and multi-tasker and it seems to run a little more fluid on the simple tasks.
The three most popular are:
Pershoot's Kernels (make sure you download one for the N1, as he supports several devices)
intersectRaven's Kernels
Wildmonks' Kernels (IR's Kernel + Overclocking)
Right now, I'm on the latest Wildmonks SVS-CFS at 1190MHz ("test" kernel).
I don't like BFS because I occasionally get random unresponsiveness for 10-30 seconds in Opera Mobile, and my music player frequently skips while running in the background with many things running.
AVS saves a good deal of power, and is perfectly stable for me, so I use it (when not usingthe 1190 MHz "test" kernel). Then again, I seem to be on the luckier end of things, as I never had crashes even at 1228 MHz when that was offered.

I have used all of the three kernels, and found on my nexus one, Pershoot's kernel consumes least battery.
I would suggest you to try all of those three kernels, they're all very stable and fast, and while using them ,you'd better use Current Widget to find out which kernel consumes least battery for your device.

Longtime lurker (i think i have some very old posts in here).
I acquired a galaxy and so far im pretty satisfied. But still only so-so. My wife has the iPhone4, which is also a great phone, and what i envy most about it, is the super fluid, instant response you get while working around the UI. Scrolling, opening programs... everything is incredibly smoot. Not so much on the Galaxy.
I tried doing the lagfix and rooting it also. It helped nicely with the loading times of programs, but the UI still isnt as smooth as the iPhones. And this is something i dont get. The galaxy is one of the most powerfull handsets out there, but still cant reach the lvl of smoothness as you get on an iPhone.
I ran Quadrant after appyling root/lagfix and scored a 2200+. Thats a pretty great score. But still doesnt feel as snappy and responsive as i find it should.
Ok well, what i want to know... is there anything out there that could help improve the UI responsiveness? Another ROM? Another Kernel? Or is this something that is just inherent with Android and/or Samsung, in a way that i will never have that?
First of all, ignore Quadrant. If you rooted and did a lagfix on the stock firmware, then you likely used OCLF. Ext2 from OCLF inflates Quadrant scores due to the looping method it uses. The only real way to judge your phone's speed is out it feels to you, and if it feels sluggish then you have work to do, regardless of the Q score.
I would definitely recommend flashing a new kernel. You should start with Speedmod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756), just because Hardcore's instructions for flashing the first time with Odin are very clear and complete. Follow them exactly and you should be good and then you can use a program like SGS Kernel Flasher to try other options easily (just remember to undo lagfixes and tweaks in between flashes).
Personally I have used Speedmod, Super Optimized and Ultimate Kernel and they are all fast with good performance. For me the best has been Ultimate (with all Ext2 lagfix) but each person and phone are different, so play around with different choices. If you wish to go all out, you can read up here about flashing the Mod as well.
I was also quite dismayed and surprised by the performance of my Galaxy out of the box, but now with a smoking kernel and lagfix in place, it is easily as smooth as iOS.

i think the most important thing is first flash one of the new firmware 2.2.1 like JS7 then it will run already smooth, if thats not enough then you still can flash a newer kernel hardcore or voodoo kernel and lagfix it.

I suggest starting with Speedmod just for Hardcore's great instructions. However, if you are not satisfied or wish to try other options Speedmod can just be your entry drug. Once you have flashed once, you can install Clockwork Mod recovery and SGS Kernel Flasher and really go to town. There are lots of great kernels down in the Android Development thread, I just listed the three I myself have tried. Read up on them, and try the ones that have the features you are looking for.
As for which lagfix, again that is a matter of personal preference. Some say Ext4 is safer, some say Ext2 is faster, some are jfs fans, some say even stranger things. Each kernel has a different approach, as well. Again, take solid backups with SGS Kernel Flasher or ROM Manager and try each method for yourself. Just remember, be home when the clock strikes midnight, and undo all lagfixes and tweaks before flashing each time (and remember, if you used OCLF to do your current lagfix, you need to go back into that app and undo all it's changes before flashing Speedmod, or BAD things will happen).
Let's not forget about basic things, like wiping the phone?
I was actually looking for exactly the same things, and I was changing kernels, roms, themes, etc. etc. while I realised it's not just that.
Go one step further, and what I found is that under Zeam launcher everything seems snappier(the kleine crocodile), than before.
I also disposed all theme, and extra stuff, that made the rom "heavier".
I cooked my own ROM in doc's kitchen, and indeed used hardcore's kernel with ext4 lagfix.
Not only the phone is pretty close to the iphone responsiveness, but the battery life is also great!

I've got around 1100 on Darky's Rom 9.3 and the responsiveness is amazing!
im using newest rom from doc's kitchen with supercurios kernel.
i used zeam launcher before which didn't feel snappy, i'm now using Launcher Pro which just feels alot snappier.

forget the scores, yours with just 1100 could be faster than one with 2200 in daily use.
A friend of me has a iphone4 and I also think that the iphone4 is just smoother than the galaxy s.
I'm on darky 9.3 with voodoo lagfix (which is included in the rom) but still I have laggs on screen. My sister just bought a htc incredible S and its also very smooth but again not as smooth as the iphone4. I just personaly think that apple has made there a good job...but there is alot what I don't like at the iphone4.

I agree. I've tried many new custom roms and lagfixes, and although they help, they still don't seem to make the phone reliably and constantly smooth. I occasionally still have some UI lag or freezing. I praise 2.2.1 for making the phone feel as smooth with RFS as it does on EXT4 though, and now I usually don't bother "lagfixing" the phone
I use TouchWiz, so I think inherent bugs in the UI are at least partially to blame. I noticed using a 3rd party launcher generally felt a bit smoother than TW, even though I like the TW layout. I'm going to reformat the phone and load JS8 with Speedmod and am leaning towards using the latest GO Launcher as my default to see if there's any noticeable long term improvement in smoothness
really everyone is going lag fix lag fix hardware way? seriously the TW launcher is the problem , its NATURALLY LAGGY , imo get Laucher pro you want silky smooth get launcher pro and set it as default home sure as hell looks better and is more fluid than any other loader out there , not one NOT ONE little hiccup ever just soo silky smooth , never even a slight tiny tiny not even micro second lag , app planet > launcher pro > facebook widget > messages widget > normal background not live > 3-5 pages = win

Well now after a day I have to say, this is the best launcher so far (go launcher). I haven't ever experienced such smoothness on my Galaxy S. So for everyone whos haveing trouble with lagg on screen, try the go launcher. It is even verx nice customisable

Hello everyone,
I am a newcomer to the O2X world. My previous device was an Xperia X10 and having that device for a long time it was fairly easy to follow the forums and know what route to go, which rom to get or kernel, etc.. Now being introduced to Rom Manager, and this phenomenal (to me) device its like starting all over again. I flashed to CM7.1 nightly (yesterday) and the device just only seems to get better and better, although being honest, I truly loved the Music App 2.2.2 had, as well as the camera. I tinkered around a little to get those to work without any success yet.
In any event, my real question is about the kernels... running CM7.1 nightly, what is a recommended Kernel to switch to? I am not looking to overclock the device as I feel it just isn't necessary (used to the Xperia), so Im just looking to get any fixes, tweaks, been hearing about Voodoo Sound etc to just solidify the phone.. might someone be able to point me in the right direction? I had been reading the forums for days now since I got the device but still haven't found what route to go as all the features are completely new to me.
Any help would much much be appreciated! and I must add, there are mixed reviews on the O2X but my take thus far, Im completely blown away.

vork is good in ironing out cm and showing off large score in tests like(quantrant etc.) while
swiftextreme is very good on batterylife
but I still prefer stock cm kernel

i stick to vorkkernel(normal version), you can get app to install in market for free.
i run it on 1,2 Ghz, with sleep profile in setcpu with 816Mhz.
gives me about 35hrs battery life and great speed in everyday use.
I am on CM7 with swiftkernel, [email protected],2GHz and I am really satisfied. I get 36-48h of normal use with 3G on and the 2x runs as hell.
Only drawback from the swiftkernel: You get a wakeup delay (1 sec.) because the kernel locks the cpu down to 256MHz when the screen is off. (Which results in a higher standbytime.
Hah, I remember my X10, used to run TripNraver MIUI on that does he even still make roms?
Anyway would stick to the stock CM7 kernel if i were you, least problems with that (no SOD, BSOD etc). On vork / swift problems keep popping up (for me at least). CM7 kernel no problems

You always take a risk when overclocking. With 1.2 it's not a big risk, but there's always one.

I'm using CM Nightly's, in last week I did the install the Vork Kernel, I think so good to diary use.
Now I'm using the #201 with Vork Kernel, all ok. No BSOD and others bugs.
You can use SetCPU with personal profiles.
I'm using max 1216mhz and Profile's Screen Off: max 816 min 216. All ok in this time.
Already did one week, no problems with this.
Just had problem with #202 CM, in #197 and #201 all ok.

There are many ROMs available in Development section with previews and detailed.
yeh i have read on many of them but i dont think its possible to read through all the top roms posts to guage users views
just looking for some personal opinions to what people are enjoying to use and not reading a thread full of problem posts
For me its checkrom v5.. Snappy and stable.. N great battrry too.

Hmmm.. Then i suggest you to wait for few more days. ICS is coming for us. as soon ics leak comes out , the most waiting CM9 will be ready for us.
Rocket rom is good if you like a speedy themed rom. Checkrom is also another good rom.used both

Clocks and voltage are kernel related.
If you want to oc and uv for yourself go for AbyssNote Kernel from angelom (which an out-dated one is included in the RocketRom from eyebee) since it has a clock frequency set range from 100-1704 MHz and a huge list of governors to choose from. Be careful though your phone can easily getting hot with this kernel by ocing it.
However it seems the franco.kernel is a little bit better for battery and has smoother animations while navigating through your phone with some third party launcher while suffering low fps in some games I've tested. I do not know the voltages for each frequency from franco.kernel. You can't change them either (with apps like voltage control or SetCPU).

There is alot of good roms and developers here its hard to tell you which one is perfect it realy depends what direction you looking at stability battery life new futures etc... i personaly use Criskelo after long searching i found my perfect one good luck.
My favorites: Cassie's XL, Darky and CheckROM.
I could suggest You to try CheckRom, fast and reliable with Abysskernel 3.8 version 2.
If You want to try, a good rom is also Darkyrom 3.3 with Franciscofranco Kernel n.4 but I find the last one a little bit unstable even if a well developed kernel.

Been with Rocket ROM since V1 until V22. Just flashed Criskelo 3 days ago and it's working superbly. Battery life is great!

Ok so the HTC Desire C seems to be a non supported device on here there are currently no ROMs for it and even the root/ulbl is not fully tested so devs with HTC experience get here to give this device what it needs!
Anyways the device runs on a 600Mhz processor running a long side 512MB RAM supporting Android 4.0.3 ICS, due to the specs the device can be a little sluggish under high operation situations so here are a few basic tips to help.
Install Zeam Launcher.
A small size launcher that is lightning fast, only thing that rivals it is the FTL launcher and looks like sense 4 launcher.
The launcher size is 338k (Google play size) very fast and minimal looking.
FTL follows the trend but size varies on ur device
Bit-Defender.
This is a tiny anti-malware suite, for full features needs payment, but for free it gives nice protection. and i use the desktop versions so yeah
if you prefer the finding ur device more so i suggest lookout due to free scream/locate and no it does not drain battery life!
Juice Defender.
I listen to music a lot when am out, my old X10 did well with an extended battery and Juice defender installed, so i say add it into the desire C, it actually saves battery and manages ur mobile data/wifi automatically.
(After root)
Install Titanium Backup.
This app is a god send, it can remove files embedded into the /system/app folder, so u can remove crappy HTC Sense launcher, also remove other bloatware and rubbish do be careful tho Rooting does void warrenty and removing apps can stop the device from working (WE NEED A RECOVERY!!)
Sysctl Config
I use this on my X10 for gaming, it provides a bit of a boost to performance not much but its there
(you must have busy box to run this, recommended to have latest superuser installed from Google play)
a scripting program - edit scripts (Advanced users/devs only)
This is what makes roms so dam fast over stock, devs have edited the files to increase VM Heaps and other stuff, if your a noob or no scripting skills dont attempt it wait for a pro to do it for you!
Try overclocking. (Advanced Users/Devs)
I dont know much about HTC kernels im a DoomKernel user for the X10, but he got the kernel another 200Mhz on a single core!
Idk if HTC have left any overclock on the kernel and i dont wanna damage my phone testing it as i got it 3 days ago, so feedback please!
Overclocking is one of the most obvious choices for speed, at the cost of battery life you can put the CPU past its standard levels, speeding up your device.
Personally i dont overclock past what doom set my kernel, if you wish to do it personally use NoFrills CPU (Free) or SetCPU (Paid) both need Root
Ok rant over! most of this stuff may not be yet possible on the device but i hope it does, its a nice little device cheap and cheerful! devs come and unlock the potential it has forget One X n S3 they got there stuff

Nope Nope Nope ^__^, basically its no good as the Kernal is stock and doesnt permit overclocking.
You should really rename this thread... it has nothing to do with optimizing or speeding up the OS. It just tells you about a bunch of software you could search for on the market, and then says, "oh ya, and overclock."

Deactivating apps which are not really needed also increases the speed, because more resources are available.
I tried that in combination with the overclock kernel and that sped up my phone especially when using apps which needs much ram and cpu-performance.

Apex is a good launcher, bit bigger than Zeam but it works perfectly for me, no lag at all and supports themes!
szilike93 Nameless new ROMs have OC ability, with the correct kernels, as said in my 1st post, i would OC, i used OC on a different ROM and played games, didnt last long under bloon tower defense 5. ive just downloaded a new kernel pack from the dev of Nameless, selected a slight OC, but i shall be still setting max OC to 600Mhz but i will be changing the Governor to InteractiveX and I/O to deadline (Going on what worked best for DoomKernel)

Yeah removing sense UI would be better off for the phone, but as far even the new "De-Sense" options still have baseline sense installed, until Cyanogenmod works fully we have to stick with it, although the devs have made the device smoother with sense, Cyanogenmod should take the crown

Well OC kernels are out and working can try them if you wish, New roms are around which are fast, no new "Super" apps to speak of, just a shame its only a single core 600Mhz, there are some apps im testing and shall report back, such as the Jellybean drivers, see if that wacks my battery using GPU rendering, hopefully not, all testing on Nameless 7.2 with 722Mhz Kernel but will be UC to 600Mhz. Hopefully battery life dont suck, Slimsense still best battery life personally for me

You want to get a good battery life, just push a stock systemui that don't have battery percentage numbers. Images in stock only have 4-5 batt images, while in percentage it gives accurate %1 reading 100 batt images.

You should do as Xdroidie626 sais.
Download Nameles's ROM and enclosed within You will find 3 kernels. Choose from 2 that allow You to OC Your CPU and flash it.
I'm using the 806MHz Kernel and apart from the obvious,battery life dicreased,can't complain about it at all.
HTC should have released Desire C 806MHz capable in the first place.
Lucky noobs we are to have XDA website and Devs themselves to provide us with tools of salvation from "stock" misery
