Faster CWM Nandroid Backups - Motorola Droid Bionic

Just a tip for people who want to make Nandroid back ups in shorter time. Learned this from Solarnz awhile ago on my xoom. If you get the Bionic Bootstrap app and then flash CWM from Rom Manager, place a file in your Clockworkmod folder the titled ".hidenandroidprogress" without the quotes. It is like a .nomedia file, just blank. But it stops CWM from display all the progress status and listing every file it backs up. This shaves MINUTES off a back up. Like serious time. It takes the phone far longer to list all the files then it does to actually back them up.
Not sure if this is well known, but i never knew it til i got my xoom. Using just the Bootstrap recovery app this trick didn't work. But once i flashed CWM through Rom Manager, it works fine. Just did a full back up in like 3-4 minutes. Takes 10 usually without the .hidenandroidprogress file.

Awesome. Will be doing this now. Thanks!
Just curious - we have two clockwork folders, one on sdcard, one on sdcard-ext. Should we be putting them in both? Or does it matter? Just to be safe I put one in both folders.

Hmmm. Flashed recovery again through CWM, added these folders, and I'm still seeing the progress while making a backup. I created a new folder and named it exactly like this:
.hideandroidprogress
Did I do something wrong?

put it to where clockword is writing your backups. And dont make a Folder. Make a File. Like you would a .nomedia file. Just copy one of those over to the Clockworkmod Folder where you right your backups. Then rename the .nomedia file to .hidenandroidprogress

Gotcha. Never made a no media file but I'm sure I can figure it out. Thanks for the prompt response. Anything to speed up these backups. Does it work for restore as well? That's the absolute worst...
Edit: successfully added the file. Thanks.

Oh, um. Just look in some apps folders on your SD card, one of them is going to have a .nomedia file. Cause they will want to hide their cached pics and data from the system scanner. If you can't find one, then just create a new TXT document on your windows desktop, rename it to .hidenandroidprogress
Not sure if it works on restores, but i assume it would. I have *knocks on wood* never needed to do a CWM restore. It hides all Nandroid associated progress. You just get the main steps (backing up system, data, sd ext, md5sum), no actual progress listing on anything

I just went into more settings in CWM and selected new file. Boom.

I made the same mistake when i first did it too. Yeah it is .hideNANDROIDprogress ... Not hideANDROIDprogress

Great tip, thanks. Didn't cut my time dramatically, but every bit helps. I will say that it's a bit unnerving to have the process sit there for a few minutes like it's hung up. But everything worked.

Wow, thanks! Now if i could just get a backup I finished to show up under restore, that would be great. Instead it just says no file found.

I have like ~230 some odd apps on my phone. 180ish on the tablet. It cuts down the time it takes the Data portion to backup drastically for me.
Yeah when you don't get much update notice it is kinda scary at first. But you will get used to it and the shortened backup times.

Possibly. I've never used quick anything in rom manager. All ive ever done is normal backups and flash updates. I just know this trick worked on my xoom. So i tried it on my bionic and it worked too.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium

Yes I am. Still nothing. I've tried using rom manager and bionic bootstrap. I can go through the backup process and see the file but as soon as I reboot into recovery it just says no files found when going into restore.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium

This was a STUNNING fix. This did more than "slightly improve" my backup times. My Nandroids were taking about 15 minutes. Now it finished less than 5. This feature is going to be enabled permanently for me, moving forward.

I definitely sped up my Transfomer's Nandroid times.

HTC Car Panel App drawer restore (more restored apps coming soon!)

Here is the HTC ThunderBolt car panel restore, this should also work on any other HTC device with car panel originally installed.
The point of this update is to add the Car Panel back to the app drawer so you DON'T have to buy a car dock just to use the car panel app, and you don't have to go into System/app just to turn it on.

Instructions:
1. Use ROM manager to Reboot into recovery
2. In Clockwork go to "Mounts/Storage"
3. Mount System
4. Go back one screen, choose "Install ZIP from SD card"
5. After install, reboot.
Enjoy!
NOTE: This method must be done until Clockwork Mod gets updated for ThunderBolt, its glitchy right now that won't auto mount system when you install a ROM or update.zip's.
I have more restore apps coming soon!
and maybe some themes?
You can just search for it on the phone and it'll come up in the search results. TY though.
Actually the thunderbolt's car panel app already shows up in the drawer by default, guess that's not the case on other devices.

Any way to get the HTC Smoke Live Wallpapers to run on nonSense roms?

City ID
I know most people hate this but can you figure out a way to get city id back on the debloat? Every time I try and install it is says app not installed. I tried to figure out a way to do this like all day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, this never showed up in my app drawer on the stock ROM... Until now!

No, as long as you can find it when you go to install it with Clockwork Mod Recovery.
I found its easier to make a folder with a symbol in front to make the folder always appear at the top of the list, then put your mods in there.
example #mods or _Themes It will always appear at the top of the folder list then
Ok I flashed it twice now. Once from rom manager and once from clockwork both times it completed successfully . When I go to apps its still not there. Any ideas. Im not running a costume rom.

Are you mounting System before you flash? in the new Clockwork Mod Recovery you always have to do this because of a glitch, hopefully it will be fixed since installing mods through ROM manager also doesn't work anymore because of the system not mounting automatically.
let me try that...
Thanks that worked..

Last track off Lateralus is another. I got sound to work on a boot only once. I copied the stock boot to desktop, went in with 7zip on the animation I wanted and copied the folder that has the jpgs and pasted it in the stock. Then renamed it to VZW or whatever it was named in the original stock boot animation folder. Then took an audio clip from the NIN Quake soundtrack to audacity and cut it to bout 30th secs and have it start fading out midway through. Renamed this to FinalThunder.mp3 and used root exp to move sound and boot to proper folder on phone. Hope this makes sense and helps you. If you figure out something let me know. Also. I started the thread of changing animations and would like to link to this boot animation if that is cool with you.

EDIT:
I got a suggestion if you'd read it
Maybe make the text appear a bit slower like the system is 'really' computing?
I notice it just jumps up rapidly and clog the screen so quick.
I understand the whole text stays there for a while so you can read it, but I think the 'coolness' factor is lessened because the text appears and scrolls up so fast.
Just a suggestion

Forever root + .893 = winning!

I applied p3's forever root method and after some doubt and mental quarrel i decided to go through with it. I am now running rooted .893 it seems faster so far. Screenshots to come.
I am in no way responsible for your actions. The krakken lies ahead. There is no turning back. Please think about this before you proceed and know that until we have a fastboot restore point there is no way to restore a softbrick.
From .886 stock rooted bloat must be present. Flash to stock before proceeding.

[Recovery][Touch][TWRP][2.11]GTab2 (7 and 10) [6/6/12]

Galaxy tab 2 10 owners, do not flash this, I have to make a custom one for it first (larger res and screen), I will post this as soon as I can!
Who's tired to using the vol/sleep buttons in recovery? I know I am, just about every device is getting some kind of touch recovery, why not the Gtabs?
Presenting touch recovery for the Galaxy Tab 2 series (I need a tester or 2 for the Gtab 2 10.1". PM me), based on TWRP, ported and custom themed by yours truly!
Special Thanks to:
- The Team Win Recovery Project <link>
- Xoomdev for creating CWM
- Chuck, my teammate, and sadly his grab 7 that gave its life for this recovery (RIP little guy hah!)
Procedure
Already Rooted with CWM recovery?
1. Download the cwm flash version of the recovery
2. Flash it using recovery, reboot and you are done.
New Gtab 2 user, not rooted or CWM flashed?
1. Download the img file instead.
2. User Heimdall, or Odin to write a new recovery.
3. Then flash my root zip
Downloads
1. TWRP Recovery CWM flash
2. TWRP Recovery IMG
3. Root zip via recovery
Enjoy!

YAY!!!!
Installing now, hopefully my tab doesn't get sacrificed... Good thing i bought the accidental damage warranty.
I'll report any problems, I need to flash the new tab2lite, so it's a perfect test.
Do you know how it handles backups? cwm backs up the full tab including internalSD. That resulted in backups bigger than i can fit on the xtra 2gb sd i had
UPDATE: i have installed and it's working great so far.
Sweet! Downloading now, I will install it shortly and report back!
It's fantastic, thanks man.
does this work on the galaxy tab 2 10.1?
So has anybody tested this on the samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 us wifi? 5113
I will when I get home.

Thank you so much! While I think CWM is the gold standard in recovery I just love TWRP's touch recovery.
Just flashed it. Works great. I love how I can now see/flash from the internal storage. CWM wouldn't let me do that.
I flashed it and it works great, it takes some time to get used to but once it becomes familiar.... CWM who?
I tried every single major option, and no problems to report back.
Sincerely, thank you for this release, it is always good to learn a new way to do things.

Factory reset wipes things twice. Give it a try.
Doing a system restore now of a backup I made before trying out that new Tab2Lite ROM. Can't get back to AOKP fast enough!
System backup / restore worked fine.
How does one take a screenshot in recovery?
Don't think its possible I photoshopped the op graphic lol but it's a good Photoshop hah.
Thanks for the kind words.. its my first recovery (and theme for that matter). Anyone know a good themer? I think the ice blue I chose looks stunning on smoled screens!

It should work fine from what I've read.
Thanx scottx . One more help i need that its writted to flash the .img file with oding. Can you tell me how do i do that?
The img. file needs to be tar balled/zipped to use Odin. I don't know if any scripts need to be added to the file (don't think it does).

How would one go about flashing this with Heimdall? I think I am doing it correctly, by going to the command prompt and typing in "heimdall flash --recovery," but it will not flash. Is there a different way to flash this?

Make sure you download the heimdall suite. Follow the readme to install the correct drivers.
Use heimdall-frontend instead of the command prompt. Click on the flash tab, and use the pit file provided in the root thread. Once that's done select the correct partition and the file you want to flash then flash it.
Hm. I installed this, made a backup, flashed a few things perfectly, then went to try a new rom. So I did another backup and wiped /system, /cache, and did a factory data reset. Flashed the rom, didn't really like it, wiped the same things, and tried to restore my old backup.
/system restored correctly, I can tell because I still have Apex Launcher, which I previously converted to a system app using TiB. However, none of my apps came back. My wallpaper reverted to the drop of water, and I'm getting super bad force closes on Apex. Because of this, I'm thinking /data did not restore properly. I downloaded TiB from the market and tried restoring my apps using the nightly backups I had scheduled. No backups were found. My external sd card is fine, some things I had downloaded on it are still there.
Last thing, I flashed CWM using the touch recovery, booted into it, and tried a previous backup made with CWM, same problems...
Any ideas on what the problem is?
EDIT: while restoring, I get an error restoring /data
