Does anyone have a contacts.apk that works on cog 5 (GB)? Im looking for one that has an export to sd card option. As the one included in Cog 5 is missing that option. On old versions of Cognition i was able to use SGS tools to install a new one, however that doesnt seem to work with cog 5.

Which version are you using? Im Using Cognition 5 v2 and the contacts has the import/export sd option...
Maybe you should upgrade/downgrade to v2 and do it then revert back

to remove the htc lock screen just pull the lockscreen.apk via adb or using the new fresh kitchen.... or you could install fresh's new 2.1 rom. apps2sd should set up automatically as long as the rom you pick has it integrated. you have to make sure your sd card is partitioned before flashing the rom.

I can concur with this ^
If you want a good 2.1 rom then go with damage or fresh. If you want a 1.5 id go with pancake without sense, super fast!
i have no idea what i am doing. i have stock rom tryin to go to cong 2.4 need help
You need to root your phone first. Look for a galaxy-s one click root somewhere here or google for it.
Once it's rooted download ROM manager from the market. You can use the free version but supporting is good.
Once you have that installed. Then put the Cog 2.4.zip file somewhere on your internal sd card (this means your phone's internal drive not an external sd card). Put it in the root directory. Then open rom manager and select to install from sd card. Once you do that it will ask you for the new ROM location and it looks on your phone's root directory as default. So you should see it right away. Select it and off you go!
thanks so much just finished love it. just one problem i can't send picture mail any suggestions?

Make sure you don't have "(" or ")" in the contact's phone number.
Example:
change 1-(555)-555-5555 to 1-555-555-5555.
Hopefully, the official Froyo release won't have this issue.
again thanks so much for the help. your awesome.
Hi Everyone,
I got the SGS I9000 a few months ago and I must say I'm not particularly happy with the lagging at times.
I youtube'd some videos, but I'm really confused on the best method to use and which rom and lag fix I should use and how to install.
If anyone can help me that would be great, I have the Galaxy i9000.
Cheers
Search this is a repetition of multiple posts asking the same question .
Their is no best rom .
Simple method would be to read the faqs on this forum understand what you are doing first .
Rom Kitchen Faqs and build your own rom would be my first choice ,

Warning if you do not understand then you brick your phone .

I'd say Darky's ROM is the probably the most appropriate choice for beginners. It's one of the easiest to flash with just a few steps on Odin, and comes with the standard Voodoo lagfix.
The guide can be found here:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-rom-darkys-resurrection-edition-9-2.895/
It is not the best ROM - that is a decision you have to make for yourself according to your own preferences - but it is easy to handle for first-timers and stable, and gets you to where you need (on a custom ROM) and with minimal fuss.
ROM Kitchen is good for those who want additional options for customization, but it's not recommended for beginners especially if they don't know what all the customization options refer to, and it's easy to run into problems of you don't know what you're doing.

Thanks very much for you help Madrenergic
I found an easy method to root my phone here on XDA using Super One Click. I then Installed OCLF from the market which worked a treat and made my phone allot faster.
I did some research and found that OCLF changes the file system to ext2, then I researched voodoo lagfix and found it changes them to ext4 to make the phone even faster, so I went ahead and downloaded the voodoo 5.5 zip file to transfer straight to my phone.
It says to put the file on the internal sd card which is what I thought I had done, but when I went into android recovery mode after selecting "reboot into recovery mode" from Clockwork Mod Recovery, it gives me the option to "apply sd card update.zip" which I selected but I got an error message saying it could not find the internal directory of my phone or the file is not available.
Any pointers?
Daft question, but did you rename it to "update"?
You could also try this, it's what I used the first time I started playing around with my phone: https://market.android.com/details?id=neldar.sgs.kernel.flasher
Make sure you make a back-up with this app before applying the update.
You picked a good kernel, it's the first one I used, and I was well impressed with the results. Make sure you grab the voodoo control app from the market, there's a free version and a donate version, it's worth getting the donate version, the devs on here deserve our support.
As always read everything through a couple of times until you're sure of what you're doing
I only have a folder called "SD" which is where I put the zip file and. I have allot of other folders when I connect to usb storage, but I put the file inside that sd folder not where all the other folders are located.
I also don't any option to mount the internal sd card.
Connect phone in USB Mass storage mode PC should show two drives copy file to Phone drive .

Ha... You have e2 recovery (or was it e3) eather way it cannot flash anything else than samsung brand firms.. Easiest is to download sgs kernel flasher from market and flash voodoo file "update.zip" you don't have to do anything else...

Take that file out of folder name "SD" and paste it to your sd-cards root.

Ok so I've installed SGS Kernal Flasher, now what folder do I put the Voodoo (update.zip) into? I'm assuming I put it inside the folder for SGS Kernal Flasher?
P.S This is what my internal SD card looks like:

Nope, judging by the screenshot you posted you have the update in the right place, just open kernel flasher and find the update, 3 pics attached.
Select back up kernel, when back up is complete select choose kernel, on pic 2 you see 2 dots above back up tap on the 2 dots, then you should see something like pic 3, scroll down to the bottom to find update and tap on it.
Job done, as far as I can remember
I agree. Darky's froyo 9.5 would be the perfect balanced mod. Though I would recommend Hardcore's Speedmod K13E kernel over Dark-core 1.4. The battery life was considerably higher with Speedmod, plus there are many more useful features, like headphone calling. Though I would agree, if you're a beginner, for now use Dark core, much easier to install, with less complicated features. You can always update to Speedmod later
Thanks everyone for your help. I ended up Using ODIN to install the voodoo update.
Everything is now much smoother to use and faster opening.
Only time anything is slow is straight after I have rebooted my phone, for example opening contact takes a few seconds after rebooting the phone, but then opens instantly after that.
Ok, I have searched high and low, and found nothing, I want my good old android stock keyboard in gingerbread. I have found a hundred ways of putting the gb one on everything, even a psp, but not the other way around. Can someone build an apk, or a zip to do this? I am having such trouble getting use to the gb keyboard.
So, im asking for the old default androind keyboard in the new 2.3.X
Thank you
I'm not understanding. Stock is there for me. Imputed method>gingerbread. Keyboard=stock

I think he means the keyboard that was in 2.1 (or 2.2).
Correct me if I'm wrong OP.
Yes, the one on 2.1 and 2.2. I hate this gb one, space bar is so small!

I'm thinking you could always pull it out of the 2.2 Froyo ROM zip that is around here.
Should be in system/app (I think).
You can use 7zip to pull it directly as a zip instead of unzziping, getting it and rezipping.
Once you got it, just put it on your sd card and install.
I can't promise it will work cause the framework is different on GB ROMs but it's worth a try. The worse you'll get is a "Can't install error".
Oh, I got it. And it even installs. But I don't know where it goes, Or where supposed to go in gb. Cause it didn't show up in the settings section.

It should install in system/app
I believe you should be able to change it under settings -> local and text.
It's trying to put files in /meta-inf, system/app and system/ lib. it says its installing, but i show no evidence of it.

Que?
what is trying to put files where?
meta-inf is in cwm zip files, it's the flashing instructions for cwm? There is no folder on the phone called that.
I'm confused
Lets start over shall we,
What you have to do is open the zip, either unzip with native windows tools or just open the archive in 7zip. Take out the keyboard apk you want out of /system/app and the corresponding lib file in /system/lib. Put those in the same folders on the phone, either push them with adb or drop them in with root explorer, and reboot.
Still no guarantee it'll quirk on gingerbread though...
The above mentioned directory is the folders in the zip file that when opened it will write to on extraction. On earlier roms, 2.2.x, i flashed it via cw as an update.zip. Apparently this doesn't work with 2.3.x. Do i have a file that is really old?

What, kernel are you using?
talon, has cwm3 and needs an edify script not amend like cwm 2.5
Just try it manually like a described.
Ok, ill give it a shot, see what i can.do with it manually .

CM7 full build will not run on Droid X because of the bootloader, however, does not mean you can not take out certain parts of the CM7 build.
Did you try installing the app on your Droid X? I have tried doing this with other device with SOME success. However, the package apps with CM7 are built into CM7's framework. You would have to pull other apk's from the framework, ie. "settings".
I know the full CM7 is not loadable on the X (obvioulsy), find the full framework of the CM7 build you pulled the messaging app from and search through it to find other related apks, zips, and files that you might also need. If you are infact trying to insert them into your Droid X. Good luck!!
Post up if you succed!!
EDIT::
you best bet is to find a freind or something that is already running the CM7 build you want the messaging app out of. Access Root Explorer, search "mms", hard press each file, zip, apk, etc. extract or copy each file (if you extract a new folder will appear on the SD card for them), DO NOT "go to extracted" click "stay here" take those files off the SD card, and try to match them up with whichever ROM you are running and replace. No guarantee that will work, but its your best bet. Its what I had to do. MAKE A BACK-UP of your current ROM first AND do this with the full knowledge you may not be able to boot up again, so make sure you have a good recovery installed and the back-up of your ROM on the root of your SD card.
