I was really excited about getting gingerbread. My phone has been flying and I figure it would be that much faster with the update. Well, not the case for me...the phone feels sluggish and slow. I have not been getting errors but slow. For example I have the weather widget, calender widget, and a couple of contact shortcuts on the main screen. When I open the web browser and hit the home key the phone takes a while and then the widgets (weather and calender) take a while to load. And this is just one thing. I tried taking the battery out. I tried clearing out the cache from everything. And killing extra items from running but still no go. I'm starting to miss froyo
How's your experience with the upgrade so far?

I have not had any slow down problems, I updated used stock for a while, then I rooted got gingervolt and supercharged it.
Runs like a dream!
Try factory reset, it should fix that problem.
I like it too! I have had a lot better battery life and have seen no slow down.

GB thoughts
Went from stock GB to GV 1.1.
Fantastic radio and data 25+ with Houston server/4G
Not one random reboot or crash
Not one update failed issue
Faster batt charge cycle and better life
Got rid of rare unresponsive screen input issue by installing widgetlocker app and by using SPB shell as launcher
GPS and BT much improved over Froyo
Excellent work on GV1.1 ROM MT!
I was also getting the slow down. I rooted and flashed gv but it still happens from time to time. Bt would also lose connection a couple of times during a conversation on a thirty minute drive. I'll be trying the supercharger next to see if that fixes things.

If you didn't do a data reset when upgrading, you should try that.
It sucks, I know, but download MyBackup Root ('tis free) and backup anything that's important; that'll make your life a lot easier. I'd encourage you to backup your apps and the app data separately, and then only restore apps you actually use, and only restore app data that you really need to have back. Resetting and then restoring everything exactly the way it was doesn't fix much, hehe.
MyBackup also lets you backup your SMS/MMS/Call Log/Contacts/some other stuff.
Immediately after the update, LGHome did nothing but force close. I did a factory reset to fix that. Now I have similar issues.
1. Battery life has gone down hill. I have everything off.
2. LGHome is slow. Started to use an alternative launcher which I do not really Fancy all that much. I actually like LGHome, but the scroll speeds have gone to crap.
3. I have tried the super charger thing but so far no difference at all.
4. I was hoping that GB would fix an issue with the email program and exchange. It did on my old phone, but nope. I still get a Password/ID error every time it checks for mail.
The great GB save seems more of a let down to me. My phone is slower, far more issues, and other than the fact that is says it is GB, it looks almost identical to v6 except a slight change in the apps drawer.
I am really thinking about rolling back to v6 with root.

Nothing against MT's work. He does a fantastic job. With this phone however I have not had great luck with ROMs and prefer to keep things stock for now. I do not want install a ROM over what may have been a bad flash. It would not be fair to him as I would comment negatively on his ROM unfairly when it was the base flash to begin with. Once I can get the v7 TOT and redo the phone entirely then I can verify my belief that the phone just did not take the update very well.
I am playing it safe for now and staying unrooted on GB. Once the zv7 TOT is out I'll feel better having that as a fallback.
I haven't had any other problems with GB other than the soft keys not lit after it boots up. Holding the phone up to a light source turns them right on.
I do miss all my apps which require root . . .

Gingervolt 1.2 is making my phone FLY. I honestly never thought this phone would be this fast. My battery life is amazing now too.
If you're familiar with modding the phone, I heavily suggest installing it!
Yeah 1.2 made a huge difference on my phone as well. Muuuuch faster and smoother than 1.0-1.1, and my battery life is MUCH better.

The original upgrade went smooth for me but something happened and things were glitchy after. I flashed the v7 TOT file and things are much much better. I just went 28 hours on light usage and still had 24% battery when I finally plugged in, I was also in the next county over night which has 4G. Market and LGHome are both stable now. Screen lag seems to be much better as well.

I wasn't on stock GB long enough to make a decision on good or bad...
I'm running GingerVolt 1.2 and while it's flying through things that had bogged it down previously...
it seems that the battery isn't charging as fast as it had been.
I'm building up to the 100% so I can calibrate the thing, which may remove the issue altogether, but it's moving at a snail's pace, as opposed to the jog it used to.
(I've had the thing charging for 4 hours and only moved up 20% in charge, where with zv4 I could have the thing nearly charged from the same usage.)
I doubt GB/GV was the cause, but I'm hoping it will clear up with the calibration.
So far, that's been my only complaint with the setup.

I have recently gotten into flashing custom roms, and am currently running Axura 2.5 with SetiroN's 1.4.3
After initial battery conditioning and what not, I have been having good life out of my phone.
I do every now and then wake up to a warm phone which has dropped nearly 40% battery in 6 hours of sleep.
The culprit as per OS Monitor is system/bin/mediaserver
It seems to use a constant cpu of 10%-20%
Trying to kill the process just results in it restarting and burning up cpu again.
Only way to kill it is to reboot the phone.
Since the Axura development thread has been closed and appears Adam is either upset with people complaining or maybe just taking a breather (love the rom) I am not able to get more information there, though when I did bring it up there, others also noticed similar findings.
Anyone know what this file is, what is causing it to go spastic and kill my battery, and how to make it behave?

Could be gallery. Not really sure
Install SGS tools from market, and install Gallery 3D from there. The default Gallery on phone has a bug that keeps the sensor on draining battery.
is this true? Will that truly solve the battery issues? Let me know because if so I wanna flash back to it.
I was watching my battery drain like 1 percent every 2 minutes , I watched it. I absolutely loved the rom tho, let us know if it works
Yep its true. There were issues for awhile. But not sure if the fixed one was included or not. But worth a shot.

Yes. This is the first thing I do on every ROM I set up now. Gallery by Samsung that is distributed by default has a sensor bug that keeps the sensor all even after closing gallery.
Thanks for the tip.

I put this on my Thrill and it's pretty smooth, you can check out all the enhancements on the page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264023
You can't get 4g until the thrill radio gets pulled but, other than that everything is working great. The 3D button is the same except you now have to hold it down! What an improvement since we haven't gotten it to actually take pictures, no more accidental presses because you have to hold it down now.
Has new transition animations it is basically stock with a few enhancements the transitions are nice and smooth no lag. Cool boot animation, android for battery gauge with percent! Even has a different kernel. Just look at the page. No OC but doesn't matter, it's quick, it hasn't bogged on me yet. Installing apps takes literally half the time.
Just wanted to confirm another rom that is working very well. Try at your own risk of course...
I forgot to mention that wifi tethering works out of the box also.

Nice man thanks for posting this. I might give it a try. Just because I love flashing new ROMs lol. Nice feature to have the tethering out of the gate. I am getting 4G with gtg's Thriller as well and it is nice for sure. Thanks again for starting this thread people really seem to be getting into this phone now.
There is one problem. You can change the ringtone but it will always play the default. Im sure there will be a fix soon. Other than that no one is reporting bugs and all say it is snappy.
Ok it looks like they give you a lot more options in the menus. You can search for carriers and when i did i ended up getting 4g..... dont ask me wtf but ill post screens later
Ringtone problem taken care of and im getting 4-5 Mbps when i was normally getting 1-2 Mbps will post a screenshot of my results page if need be. So I believe I am getting 4g or it has just improved the speed that much which doesnt matter either way. Anyone else trying this one out?
Anybody had any luck using this rom and getting mms to work? Tried messing w apn. This rom and the king 3d are nice, but no mms. Ideas?

I've been using gingervolt (now on 2.0) since about 30 minutes after I picked up my Revo back in November, and now I'm thinking about trying the ZV8 upgrade out to see how it does. My question is, If I flash the v7rooted rom, then unroot and reinstall the LG boot loader, will I lose my text messages? I know I can use sms backup and restore to re load them, but it doesn't seem to backup picture messages, which I would like to keep a few. Do I need to just save those pictures to my phone/computer and wipe it all?
Really not wanting this thing binged again, but I would like to see if it takes care of a few of the issues that I am having (mostly battery, the browser back button, and the very occasional reboot.)
I would also like to say thank you to all of you guys who have done so much for the Revo.

Coming from gv 2.0 to the zv8 update has been amazing for me. I got 16 hours on the standard battery today before it shut off, no random reboots, no touchscreen stops working at random, my reception is better, and the phone responds well and feels fast. I followed the method posted somewhere in the dev section to maintain root on the update (so I could keep free wifi tether ;-)) and was able to freeze the bloatware and do small tweaks.

I guess I'd been on the same Rom for probably 6-7 months, internal memory full, external SD full, probably done 30 nightly upgrades.
My phone was running horribly, took 3 minutes to boot up, unresponsive, crashing, horrible battery life, just slow in general.
Finally had enough and decided to wipe everything and start over on a clean cm7 Rom and wow, back to warp speed, dont even need to overclock anymore!
I was seriously considering burning my o2x and buying an s3 or something.. but now I can see myself using it for at least another year.
If anyone else has lost hope with their o2x, try a full wipe. You may be surprised how slow yours has gotten!

Ok, but, if you wipe everything, then you lose yourself, you won't have anything in your phone, starting from zero doesn't sound like anything I would like to try, because wiping everything, then restoring would be the same as no wiping at all.
Anyways, if you start from zero, then, after sometime you'll be at the same place you were before wiping.
I suppose he restored apps and data from backup, so all he lost is 30 minutes of work. I did the same for the same reason last week. Since then, I am less impatient for ICS.

Nope, didn't
Had 140 apps, few of which I actually used apparently lol.
I literally started from zero, and surprisingly turned out I've only had to install about 20 apps as I've needed to use them.
My mobile provider is pretty decent so no prob downloading apps
My phone is literally 300% faster, and doesn't crash anymore.
im amazed at how my battery % stays where it is for the most part.
Was probably a pretty extreme case before I wiped it though, 20gb of crap and 150 apps is probably beyond the scope of most normal users Lol.
Didn't really take me too long to start over. Game saves are the only thing I kept really.

I think most complaints about slow roms and memory usage are due to unused app overload. Sure, you can be vigilant with your task killers and keep an eye out for apps eating resources and battery, but that's still much easier to do if you go round and uninstall every app you haven't used in the last month. You won't get quite such a big improvement as a full wipe, but it still keeps things running more smoothly.
I only wish google play had some way to tag apps you have uninstalled so that you can sort the good ones that you might want to download and use once in a while from the bad ones you tried out and though were useless. Game saves are also a problem here, as it's sometimes tricky to keep the saves when you delete the rest of the game data.
Totally agree with you!
I restarted many time from zero but it seems I can't live without 140 installed apps at least.
I tried many ROM but the best ROM for me is Temasek with Symbiosis Kernel.
With some little settings I've a great Battery life and great performances!
I'm only waiting for ICS cause I want Chrome!!! :crying:

I agree, wiping is magic. I originally thought my phone was really bad, trying every CM7 based rom and kernel, all of which lagged.
But I don't understand, why does the phone slow down so much after a short while? I don't think normal users can stand wiping their phones every other month. Even my friend's S2 can survive a couple of months without a wipe and remain speedy.

I just saw kind of heavily noticable improvement, when I instead of reflashing stock and installing+setiing, I reflashed stock and flashed nandroid backup.
Cannot explain, except for some fragmentation theory (which for flash memories should not be much of an issue, right?).
Also, flashing few CFWs and then reflashing stock V20Q with SmartFlash made few bugs I had disappear - specifically the bug I got in When switching from Asphalt to SMS then back then to Email then back then to hotmail ..... It does not restart anymore ... cannot explain (That's how I occasionally work hehe.)
I've noticed my phone only charging at around 70mah when simply on the home screen (charges very fast when screen is off/sleep, 800+mah). I am using battery monitor widget to see the current draw. Using battery doctor, it tells me Maps is using 99% of the battery being consumed, even after testing it out playing Temple Run 2 for 20 minutes on max screen brightness. Is anyone else having this issue? Any known solutions? I even tried disabling GPS and latitude.

Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I have tried that. But I would like to use my GPS as it has a lot of uses with applications. That still doesn't explain having such a high current draw enough to only charge at only 70mah even while in use. Any phone should be able to charge significantly faster than the battery drains (aside from USB charging). Something is putting a ton of unwanted load on while the phone is not sleeping. The phone sleeps VERY well in the sense of conserving power (-10mAh)
Can someone download battery doctor and see if Maps is also very high on their list? It could also be a false reading on the apps end. I'm looking at my phone right now on max brightness and it shows it's discharging at -304mAh, which is acceptable. I'm more concerned about the charging rate being horrible while the phone is awake. Something might be really making the processor do unnecessary work.
I have the same percentage for maps as well....

I use GSAM. I used to have issues with maps doing that, and forgot how I fixed it. I wish they would make Google maps not suck. So many freaking wakelocks.

It's kind of sad that they took "Screen" out of the list of power consuming things as that is truly the most common power consuming factor. I'm really not impressed with this release of Sense. I WANT MORE PANELS!! lol I went from 7 panels from the Evo 3D to 5 panels including blinkfeed which I don't use. Sooo lamee
Anyway, the phone is new so I'm sure there will be updates fixing a ton of issues since they kind of rushed the release after the initial delay. I'm betting a bunch of issues escaped unfixed because of that. Would anyone suggest a ROM to potentially fix my issue and improve everything as a whole?

I'm still wondering if anyone has had any experiences with extremely slow charging while using the phone.

That app is stock sense. Settings > power > usage. I would say definitely ROM it. More customization possibilities and it will only get better. The ROMs that are out now are completely stable and mildly tweaked compared to what they will be in a month or so. Also I had slow charging for my first few cycles and it seems to have gotten much better. At least on par with my wife's evo lte.

I'm leaning towards the Viper ROM. Any other suggestions or possibly better ROMs?
I believe everything gets wiped when the ROM is flashed, correct? I already have TWRP installed.
The generic answer is to try a few different ones and see what works best for you. For me, I'm using viper as my daily. But who knows what I'll be using tomorrow.... I'm a flashaholic. There's a superwipe posted in these forums that will wipe everything for you but in essence it formats system, data, cache, and dalvik. Any time you jump to a different ROM you will want to wipe everything. Keep in mind a factory reset is not the same thing as a full wipe as it does not wipe system files.

So every time you flash another ROM, what do you do to recover all your data, apps, game progress, etc.
I just made a backup of everything with my stock ROM using TWRP.
Personally I use titanium backup.... But it can cause issues as can any app that transfers data between ROMs. you can actually import data from your nandroid by using titanium.... Or just restore the data partition from your nandroid from within twrp. No matter what you may run into issues and if that's the case just start over for the best results.
I apologize ahead of time if this makes no sense.... Exhaustion at work is setting in.
