Ok so if i flash back to stock and i want to flash apex or pinnacle i need to be on gb bootloaders, which one? Links... And i need to flash the correct kernal? Boogs kh3 can someone advise me. I watch youtube clips from mobile tech and the process is flash the BL first then kernal then flash the zip from CWM. Some of the rom threads seem vague on the steps in flashing bootloaders and kernals. I have flashed cm7 and im on cognition now but i want to try some other GB roms for my i897 after i use odin to flash back to jf6.

does not matter what kernel you flash after you flash the bootloaders. it is temporary and just used for cwm. any rom you flash after the kernel will have its own compatible kernel included.
the I897 GB bootloaders are just a click away

Hello everyone, I had a quick question about flashing fasty II on my darky's jvr captivate. I read that the battery life on fasty is better than the one for darky, so I thought I'd give it a shot. While reading the instructions I ran into "must flash gingerbread bootloaders", my question is, should I flash to stock then flash the gingerbread bootloaders or can I just flash the rom since I'm on jvr? I would greatly appreciate any help as I am a noob, thanks in advance to all!

I would flash stock first. Or flash gingerbread bootloaders now, then flash stock kh3 (no boot) then flash boot kernel, then flash rom through cwm. Sounds complicated I know, but it isn't that bad. Fasty does have great battery life but I prefer fusion. About as good battery life and way better theme
Ok, thanks man! So just to clarify, it's back to stock through odin one click, root, bootloaders, and rom through clockwork? I think that odin is the only intimidating part, as I have read it is where most hard bricks happen. Anyways, thank you!

^^^there is no reason to root your phone, download gb bootloaders and flash through odin1.83,download cezars kh3 no boot loaders and flash through odin1.83, download boogs kh3 kernel with cwm and flash through odin 1.83. After this you will have stock kh3 with cwm and root. Put whatever gingerbread rom you want on sd card and install through cwm.
Edit:disable voodoo lagfix first before flashing
Ps.when flashing kernels, modems in odin they go in the pda slot
Pss.Just a heads up just in case you dont know,do not flash the 3 button fix after you flash gingerbread boot loaders or you will have an expensive paper weight

Hello all,
I am on DARKYROM JVR and would like to install DGs KJ3 ROM
What should I do?
Install the one with bootloader or one without?
Is there any steps to don before installing the stock?
Please help
Yes. Be mindful that JVR is an i9000 rom and KJ3 is an I897 rom. Mixing kernels can be hazardous to your phones health.
Cognition is no longer supported. There are other good KJ3 roms that are supported. Try one of those instead.

Thanks for your quick reply
Actually I am willing to install one of DG Stock in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843&highlight=bootloader&page=11
So what should I do? go ahead and flash the KJ3 directly?
I am not sure if u can directly go to i897 bootloader...might wait for someone more experience
but to make sure i dont mess anything I normally flash back to JF6...and then flash one click I897UCKJ3 with bootlaoder then Boog's kernal for Kj3...and then just flash rom.zip through CWM...
If you're using Odin to flash an entire firmware it doesn't matter what is on your phone before the flash.
If Odin will overwrite your current set up to flash jf6 why wouldn't do the same for a different firmware?
I currently have a rooted phone with custom 2.2.1 based rom.
CWM recovery is also installed.
I'd like to know if I can flash a stock rom via recovery.
You need Odin/heimdall to flash a stock ROM. Look in the development section stickies, or do an official update

So if I downloaded I897UCKJ2.rar I can only flash it via ODIN ?
You are on Froyo bootloader...with froyo rom...for GB roms u have to flash GB bootloader...there is a whole thread in Dev section with different options to flash GB...I would suggest flash KK4 with bootloader and then Kernel with CWM built in...and u will be good...NOTE: Falshing bootloader might brick your phone...but u just have to do it once...
If you just want the latest "stock" gingerbread you can just use the samsung kies mini to get kk4 and it will give you bootloaders and the stock rom
Hello i have a question

Okay well to put it simply, just flash a GB kernel like speedmod through ODIN, download the stock KK4 at&t rom (I think there's a full dump of it in the previous post), and flash it through CWM once both of those steps are done. If you want your kernel to be back to stock, then find the stock KK4 kernel and flash that .tar file through ODIN as well after you've done the last two steps outlined. An alternative to that would be Heimdall one-click to stock KK4 package which would totally put it back to stock.
I started out trying to go from some 2.x rom (May have been Serendipity) to the CM10 v4 (JB), which worked fine. I stayed on the v4 for a few days, then v6 came out and I tried to update to that. I got Status 7 errors no matter what I did (redownloaded rom several times, did everything I could think of and everything suggested in other threads), so I gave up on that and decided to just go back to GB. All stock roms I've flashed through Odin have worked just fine.
So, I flash UCKJ3 (stock GB 2.3.5) with bootloaders using Odin, but the recovery on that version doesn't let me switch over to CWM for some reason, so I use Odin to go back to UCJF6 (stock Eclair 2.1) without bootloaders and use the recovery there to switch to CWM. Now I'm in CWM and trying to flash KK4 Legend 5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391192), and it all goes fine. I reboot and get the Corn Kernel loading screen, the loading bar fills... and then it freezes on that screen.
I then flash back to stocks using the same process and flash the MPD version of KK4 Legend 5, same problem. I also tried flashing Corn Kernel 7.0A, rather than 7.06 which comes with the rom. Some people said that helped, but it didn't.
Okay, I'll just use a different rom. I figured since I was using Serendipity before, I'll try that. I download 6.4, and flash back to stock UCJF6, like the instructions say to, then install Serendipity through CWM. It "boots" to a black screen with the bottom four buttons lit up.
Am I doing something wrong that is causing these roms to fail?
Edit: I am now using Odin to flash UCKJ3 (stock GB 2.3.5) with bootloaders, then using Odin to flash the kernel with CWM. When I install KK4 Legend 5 from that CWM, it bootloops when the loading bar gets to the middle.
Perplexing.
That kj3 Odin package must not be Re-partitioning...
Try using one of the i897ucKK4 One Clicks in my post here... Stock i897ucKK4, Odin or Heimdall, Full Wipe, Re-partition, with or without GB Bootloaders .
This should get u takin care of. No need to flash the ones with gb bootloaders if u already have them installed. Once u r on kk4, then Odin flash the KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A and go from there to install Dev Rom.

Click to collapse
From what I rember that kj3 package does not do a repartition. Its great if you don't need the repartition cause it has a cwm kernel baked in. But coming from an ICS ROM you will need the repartition found in the one click previously mentioned because ICS uses a different partition table.
