Hello all,
I am on DARKYROM JVR and would like to install DGs KJ3 ROM
What should I do?
Install the one with bootloader or one without?
Is there any steps to don before installing the stock?
Please help
Yes. Be mindful that JVR is an i9000 rom and KJ3 is an I897 rom. Mixing kernels can be hazardous to your phones health.
Cognition is no longer supported. There are other good KJ3 roms that are supported. Try one of those instead.

Thanks for your quick reply
Actually I am willing to install one of DG Stock in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843&highlight=bootloader&page=11
So what should I do? go ahead and flash the KJ3 directly?
I am not sure if u can directly go to i897 bootloader...might wait for someone more experience
but to make sure i dont mess anything I normally flash back to JF6...and then flash one click I897UCKJ3 with bootlaoder then Boog's kernal for Kj3...and then just flash rom.zip through CWM...
If you're using Odin to flash an entire firmware it doesn't matter what is on your phone before the flash.
If Odin will overwrite your current set up to flash jf6 why wouldn't do the same for a different firmware?

Hi All,
Reason for this question is that, first of all I wanted to root my newly bought SGS GT-I9000 (2.2 DDJP6) So, flashed speedmod kernel K13E (latest). Later, when I wanted to install MIUI rom, as per the instruction one need to flash K13C kernel.
But, whenever I try to flash SM - K13C kernel on top of K13E, I tend to soft-brick my phone (BSOD). I need to once again flash K13E to get back my SGS to work.
So, in order for me to get on to MIUI rom, I have two options...
1) Downgrade K13E to K13C kernel. And continue to flash MIUI rom.
2) Restore my kernel to stock kernel first. Then start flashing K13C and continue to flash MIUI rom.
Can somebody please suggest, which option would be best and highly feasible?
Thanks in advance for the responses
Prabhu.
i dont think it matters what version of speedmod you are on, its only so you have CWM to flash the cyanogen kernel.
but anyway if you want to downgrade just download the one you need k13c and flash it thru CWM or ODIN and it will overwrite your previous kernel
I did try to flash K13C on top of K13E. Odin just froze at <ID:0/022> zImage step.
Please find the snapshot attached.
how long has it been like that. ?? try to find a CWM version and see if that works.
or just flash miui with your current kernel
If u want to get on miui, follow the guide on theandroidsoul.com/net.....good to have a clean start with ezbase2.0

I tried the CMW version of speedmod k13c and was successful. But, while flashing the cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar from odin again, I got stuck in the below attached odin screen.
Is there any CWM version for the cm7-galaxys-initial-kernel.tar? What is that I am doing different?
So i've installed a 2.3.3 rom and now i cant get to CWM recovery..
so if got this right, while on a 2.3 kernel/rom i can't see nor boot into CWM recovery even though it IS installed..
by flashing to a 2.2 kernel Using "SGS Kernel" will i be able to access it again?
or can i downgrade to 2.2 by simply flashing a 2.2 rom from Rom Manager?
Sorry for being a noob..
What 2.3.3 rom have you flashed?

i flashed Darky's Extreme Edition v10.1
If you want to go back to a standard firmware, you could just go to samfirmware.com and flash a firmware using odin with pit file and repartition. You could just flash jvo rather than going back to 2.2.
That would restore recovery mode back to your phone
You will need to disable voodoo lagfix first though. You can do that with voodoo toggle app on market.
Edit: Flashing a kernal like fugu will give you cwm. Just flash jvo from samfirmware first
cant i just flash a 2.2 rom from the Rom Manager app?
edit:just noticed your edit, will any 2.2 kernel work or just the ones with CWM?
For rom manager to work you will need a compatable kernal first. If you cant access cwm I would guess you have the wrong kernal or it didnt flash correctly.
If you have a 2.2.3 rom I would not recommend flashing a kernal for a 2.2 rom.
If you want cwm then you will need a kernal thats includes cwm. I personally recommend fugumod kernal.

Hello everyone, I had a quick question about flashing fasty II on my darky's jvr captivate. I read that the battery life on fasty is better than the one for darky, so I thought I'd give it a shot. While reading the instructions I ran into "must flash gingerbread bootloaders", my question is, should I flash to stock then flash the gingerbread bootloaders or can I just flash the rom since I'm on jvr? I would greatly appreciate any help as I am a noob, thanks in advance to all!

I would flash stock first. Or flash gingerbread bootloaders now, then flash stock kh3 (no boot) then flash boot kernel, then flash rom through cwm. Sounds complicated I know, but it isn't that bad. Fasty does have great battery life but I prefer fusion. About as good battery life and way better theme
Ok, thanks man! So just to clarify, it's back to stock through odin one click, root, bootloaders, and rom through clockwork? I think that odin is the only intimidating part, as I have read it is where most hard bricks happen. Anyways, thank you!

^^^there is no reason to root your phone, download gb bootloaders and flash through odin1.83,download cezars kh3 no boot loaders and flash through odin1.83, download boogs kh3 kernel with cwm and flash through odin 1.83. After this you will have stock kh3 with cwm and root. Put whatever gingerbread rom you want on sd card and install through cwm.
Edit:disable voodoo lagfix first before flashing
Ps.when flashing kernels, modems in odin they go in the pda slot
Pss.Just a heads up just in case you dont know,do not flash the 3 button fix after you flash gingerbread boot loaders or you will have an expensive paper weight

Ok so if i flash back to stock and i want to flash apex or pinnacle i need to be on gb bootloaders, which one? Links... And i need to flash the correct kernal? Boogs kh3 can someone advise me. I watch youtube clips from mobile tech and the process is flash the BL first then kernal then flash the zip from CWM. Some of the rom threads seem vague on the steps in flashing bootloaders and kernals. I have flashed cm7 and im on cognition now but i want to try some other GB roms for my i897 after i use odin to flash back to jf6.

does not matter what kernel you flash after you flash the bootloaders. it is temporary and just used for cwm. any rom you flash after the kernel will have its own compatible kernel included.
the I897 GB bootloaders are just a click away
Hi,
I have a problem when trying to flash my galaxy s and install ICS Dark night v5.5.
When I try updating the kernel using ODIN, my phone gets into bootloop.
It is a froyo installed phone. Also, I am unable to get recovery mode. It enters download mode though.
Can anyone help me out in this??? I am very new to this stuff... I am a beginner...
Held up in this for a couple of weeks.....
Thanks,
Sridhar
If you can boot into download mode, use ODIN to flash a stable rom, then get CWM and your back to where you were, hold off the nightly builds or post in the Cyanogenmod official thread or forums.
Thanks a lot... That did work.. But now i have got Mobile network not available error after flashing.....
Probably best to mention which version of software you are using and the source...
Best option is to flash stock gingerbread version via Odin.
www . theandroidsoul . com / xxjvu /
sorry can't put correct address in yet dont have enough thanks...
it would be better to update to any stable stock rom, go to sammobile.com...
i suggest you update to the latest firmware or ics stock rom for i9000 via odin then root that firmware you have chosen(CF-ROOT) and then update the custom rom darknight v5.5 via cwm...
I think you need gingerbread bootloaders for ics.. You were on Froyo, so it won't work.. You'll need to install a stock gingerbread rom with the pit file and repartition.. After that you can try an ics rom..
I found this thread. After attempting to get CM9 onto my S it wouldn't boot so I used odin to install a stock from from sammobile but now the phone just boot loops.
Could someone please help me.
More info:
After the odin flash - I get a screen like the recovery menu saying things such as "E:Format_volume:rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10" and things of a similar nature - will have to see what the others say.
Any ideas?
You probably flashed a rom without bootloaders. Try flashing a 3 file rom from here and repartition with 512 pit.
