[Q] Volume Button doesnt work to wake up phone on CM7 - LG Optimus 2x

hi guys,
i tried CM7 (also latest nightlys) and it seems to be a problem with the option "wakeup phone by volume buttons" .
Sometimes the phone won´t wake up if i hit the volume buttons. 10 times i press the volume button it won´t wake up, then i press again and then it works. i think that is a bug :-(
have you similar problems and is there a fix ?
thanks

Same problem here.

Bump.
Having this problem with the latest temasek kang p204-20. Baseband used is stock 725 and the kernel is .49 [email protected] #1

mine is not working either.
temasek 204-18
It works only for about 5 seconds after phone goes to sleep but beyond that it no longer works.

Yes, same me, Can anyone why's not? I hope to use volume to unlock screen without power button!

bump
still having problems with CM7 temasek KANG 204-37 and vadonka's powersave 32mb kernel.

its because the phone won't respond to these buttons during deep sleep, like when your screen has been off for 5+ seconds... the only way around it is to set your lowest cpu clock to around 500mhz or more with screen off settings using a cpu managing app... but your battery life will suffer from it... badly... your choice... and roms like cm7 automatically set the lowest available clock setting when the screen is off by default... hope this helps...

i see.
but can't the developers simulate the power button function while the screen is of with one of the volume buttons ? just to be clear, i assume the power button has some sort of priority/command that wakes the phone.. so it's just a problem to simulate or assign that priority to one of the volume buttons..

I also have the same problem

Please don't tell me that if ONE single button on my phone gets damaged (the power button) it will render the phone completely useless...

Info from another thread: volume button unlock works if you install this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507681
select the first option (PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK) and aquire the lock.
I've been using that only for a few hours so I cannot say how badly this effects the battery.
The other thread about this is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505368

How to disable back light of Keyboad - G1 - CM4.1.11.

all,I am using CM 4.1.11.1 with Community Hero Theme.
I know the reason for draining my battery but I don't know how to solve it, can any one help?
issue:
When you press phone END button to keep th ephone in SLEEP mode,
- Phone goes to SLEEP mode and the Screen light is OFF.
- But, the Light on Physical keyboard is not switched off some times.
To see this, Get into a dark room and press END button to keep the phone in SLEEP mode.
Once the Phone is in SLEEP Mode,Do not Slide your Keyboard, Keep as it is and observe the Light from space between Slider and keyboard.
(I observed while I was sleeping..my phone was off but there was some light coming out)
I think this is not happening all the times but I have seen it many times and it is draining my battery.
To solve this, I use to open the Slider Press END button and make sure the lights or OFF and close the Slider.
Has any one observed this? can any one tell me how to solve this?
Is there a way to disable and enable the back light of Keyboard?

unlocking without using power button? and auto backlight

hi, i was wondering if its possible to turn the screen on(after locking, to unlock) by pressing the volume buttons instead of just the power button? Its really annoying having the power button the only means of turning the screen on, my old renoir worked with my volume buttons(and anything else) same as my dads arena .
Also does anyone know how to change the auto backlight settings? The intervals are terrible, it doesnt drop high or low enough to save battery but the steps are so close you notice the backlight drop just by tilting it away from any light source lol (very sensitive and annoying without really helping battery life!).
Tried searching so I apologize if its already been mentioned but i havent found any mention or solution .
i saw an option of setting the volume button to turn/wake the phone up. i believe it's from the CM7 build..
Yep, turning phone on with volume buttons is definately available on CM7. But I don't think there's that option with any of the MRC roms.
I'm sure that tiny power button will wear out sooner rather than later...it would be good to have another way of waking up the screen.
Yes option is available in CM7, but not still got a few bugs

I don't know what ROM you're running, but MIUI has the option to do what you're asking. It's in the settings menu (I believe under Lockscreen).
oh, ROM CM7 have it also, but I want separate app. Do you know any apps ?
Widget locker. Like 3 bucks in market enable easy wake
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S Captivate with ICS and a broken power button.
i just ran into the same problem. golocker is working great for me. and its free in the market.
Also MiLocker.
Fix Broken Power Button by Destil
I found this..
market.android.com/details?id=cz.destil.fixbrokenpb&hl=en
When I tried to download it said it wasn't compatible with captivate but I found the .apk and it ended up working. I attached the .apk I was using to this post.
Another thought, I took my phone apart and cleaned it. I took everything apart down to the motherboard and I poured a little rubbing alcohol on the actual button and pressed it a bunch of times (no battery in of course) and after it dried out it seemed to help get it working again.
Also, when I started having problems again I installed a different kernel and that seemed to help as well. Who knows.. but it has been working ever since.
The Fix Broken Power Button by Destil .apk is below
Thank you topiratiko, I was about to go crazy worrying about not being unable to turn my screen on. But what will I do if the phone shuts off? How will I turn it on? My power button seems to be unable to work.

You can allways go into download mode and flash a kernel for ex and check reboot so it'll boot up, or even better use a jig by inserting it for just a bit to power on and to avoid download mode.

Samsung Captivate Power Button Not Working . FIXED :)

If your phone's power button is in a 'pressed' state, like mine, (turns on automatically when battery is inserted), it is a hardware issue.
Here is a hassle free alternative to turn on the phone when it is in sleep mode, without relying on the power key!! Takes a minute or two only!!
1. Get 'Go launcher' from the app market (play)
2. Get 'Go Locker'
3. Now Enable Go Locker on your device. And you are done!!
When the screen goes black again, Just press the volume button, The screen wakes up!!
Using this method you don't lose the normal functionality of the volume rocker!!
I recalled that I used to have Go Locker on my phone, and that when I pressed the Volume key the screen turned on!!
At that time I found it a little annoying, But now it has turned out to be such a gift!!
* For this method to work, your phone has to be rooted.
The power button is not going to work until the hardware is repaired, I prefer to use this method, because it is a safe and quick method!!
Believe me I looked around the internet and this forum for a fix, The usual method: editing the system files on the phone, and after which the volume button cannot be used to control the volume.
For those looking for a quick fix, just follow my method!
Cheers!
There are also several roms out there that have the volume rocker wake built into the rom without making it completely useless for it intended purpose. As well as several that offer a go to sleep toggle in the notification window so you can lock your phone again.
so this is a hardware issue ? i had been using the go locker i been using but the power button is annoying cus it keep showing the power button options . and killing my battery.
only fix is samsung?
Pretty much every version of cm for cappy has volume rocker wake as an option, because of this common problem. I use app called turn off screen as well.

I had the exact same problem with my Epic Touch 4G. Thought it was the ROM, the overclock, etc. I flashed back to (almost) stock, went back to original clock speeds. I couldn't figure out what it the world was causing the issue, until it got worse. Then, I noticed that even brushing past the power button would wake the screen, and about 10 seconds later the phone would reboot.
Long story short, I bought a replacement power switch, soldered it in place, and have had zero problems since!
Several eBay sellers offer the proper replacement switch you'll need.
(They don't include the required skills to properly desolder/solder it, however. It's a tiny switch - about 4mm x 2mm x 1.5mm, and you'll need a good quality fine-tipped soldering iron.)

Annoying long power button delay

Long story short... Any ROM + kernel combo I try, when I press the power button to turn the screen on, there's at least a 5 second delay when pressing the power button to when the screen actually turns on.. It's very annoying
Does anyone else experience this problem? Any fix (really hope so)
Thanks in advance

I experience this issue also, except that I am on stock kit kat, and it has only been an issue since that upgrade. Overall, kit kat seems to be a step backwards for me :-/
That happens a lot on my daughter's N7 ... but rarely on mine. Both are 2012 models hers is 16gb, mine is 32gb -> both on kitkat.
WHAT I've noticed is that it only happens when the orientation is different from when I turned it off & am trying to turn it on. Example: I turn off in portrait mode, set it down, walk away, pick it up in Landscape and press the power button...delay turning on. If I turn it back to portrait, turns on without delay.
That's all I've got. It's reproduce-able on both tablets.

i get this when I use Franco Kernel because the minimum cpu frequency is too low, and it presumably just doesn't want to wake up
m-kernel no problems, where the min freq is set to at least 2000
