I've seen this problem come up in other recent HTC devices, just thought I'd point it out for the Vivid as well.
I'm running LauncherPro with just a few icons, a low-resolution wallpaper, and no widgets. It runs silky smooth but the only gripe I have is that when opening the app drawer, 3D or standard, there's an incredible amount of stuttering and lagginess. Scrolling is not smooth, either.
The only other instance of crappy scrolling I have found on the phone so far is in GO SMS Pro; scrolling up and down conversations and also in the settings menus shows an apparent amount of lag. Nothing to cry about, but still there.
Otherwise, no performance issues at all on my device. Oh, and my previous complaint about the data speed being almost nonexistent - it's fixed. Turned out the phone was trying to sync all three of my Google accounts at one time.
Try a different Launcher? LauncherPro Might have an inherent flaw with HTC Devices possibly. Give GoLauncher a shot and see if there is any difference.
Yeah, I'll do that now. I personally dislike Go Launcher but I'll try a few others and see how they perform. I don't think a launcher would affect the lag in GO SMS, though.
EDIT: Lag is still present in Go, Zeam, and ADW launchers.
Interesting. Good to know. It is possible I suppose that they are not correctly optimized for the resolution and Screen size. Although if it is having problems with other HTC Devices my only conclusion is that it is because of some sort of Software issue between HTC and Custom Launchers.
Yeah that's all I could think of, how maybe the high resolution has something to do with it. Hopefully, that's right. Then it would just depend upon app makers to update their apps.
I see no lag what so ever on anything on this phone...
maybe ya got a bad unit?
Are you using GO SMS or any other launchers besides Sense?
This whole rom is slow in comparison to how my inspire rom runs....sad....but thats at&t for [email protected] software. But as soon as we have root,Ill be cooking my own for this, until then it can sit in the box...lol
WC
I have the lag you speak of and its driving me up the wall. Why did I give up my galaxy s2

Calm down, it's not such a big deal. It could because of the greater resolution, much higher than the Samsungs. Not a hundred percent sure, but really. People need to stop being so nit picky and judgmental. It's a phone. In this world, they ALL have their quirks.
No lag what so ever here. Running Launcher Pro Paid Edition. I have 3 homescreens with 4 Columns and 5 Rows, and have 4 Widgets. 3D App Drawer with 5 columns.
Tried ADW EX and Go Launcher and found no lag present as well.
Once a debloated Rom is released everything will be resolved. But for me, haven't had any lag what so ever.
Hm. I wonder if the paid version would make any difference on my device. No lag in the drawer at all? What about in downloaded apps when scrolling?
No problem with anything on launcher. Smooth to me. I've came from an Atrix, Infuse, Inspire, SGS2 and notice no difference. So I've had my share to compare to.
I like the paid version because of the resizable Widgets.
I wonder then, what could be causing it on my phone..
I just tried the latest ics launcher, wow, the first few were kinda sluggish but the latest update is a breeze. There is no lag what so ever and the apps even open instantly with this launcher. I think ics luancher installs itself in a different way, i dont know why but it is smooth as butter.

I've got the same thing, paid version.
I just changed the delay to instant, and forgot about it.

I just downloaded the new ICS Launcher as well. Seems they've updated it really recently because I tried it on Monday and it wasn't nearly this smooth. Drawer fly-in is amazing, but now the scrolling through the apps is laggy. The changelog did say it was completely rebuilt.
Maybe it's a memory thing? LauncherPro was the very first thing I ever installed on the phone out of the box, and I think I recall that before I installed any other apps, it was running flawlessly.. low memory maybe, but I only have like 10 other apps installed. I'm back to LP for now since I don't really mind the drawer lag that much. I just switched to the 3D version and fly-in is working fine, but now it's the scrolling that lags more than the regular drawer does lol. Can't win.
I know it sounds silly but it could be something as simple as an app icon causing the lag. I had installed something from the market and I noticed lag (this was on my Inspire) and after I uninstalled the app it went back to normal. I reinstalled the app and froze it with TiBu and the lag was still gone... unfroze and lag was back.
YMMV

Yeah I believe you, good point. I'm just going to go through deleting some apps and see if any of them are the problem.
UPDATE: Alright, I just did a factory reset on the phone. As soon as it booted up, I added my primary Gmail account. I went to the Market then closed it so it would update. Meanwhile, I synced my Google contacts, Gmail, and calendar. When that was done, I went back to the Market and downloaded GO SMS - the scrolling lag there still persists. Then, I downloaded LauncherPro (unpaid) and went through opening and exiting the app drawer multiple times - seems the lag is gone. Every now and then, opening it will show some stuttering, as will closing. But it's not every single time like it was before the reset. Perhaps it was something to do with memory? It does not lag on scrolling at all, only during fly-in and fly-out.
UPDATE 2: Never mind. Now that I have changed the default number of homescreens from 3 to 5, it lags every time on opening and closing. Just not on scrolling, yet.

Why can't the GSM versions of the Galaxy S line turn off the Touch Wiz UI, just like the CDMA versions as noted on BriefMobile.com? Anyone else notice this?
"turn off"? Install another launcher/homescreen maybe? The homescreen is the only part of touchwiz I dislike, I find the enhancements to the contacts and notification bar quite useful.

This is just a question, but isn't it still there if you put something on top of it? Is that different from disabling it in settings for CDMA versions and does that effect app lag and UI response?
The app lag is largely due to poor I/O performance on the /data partition. There are numerous other foxes for this, but removing TouchWiz will have little impact.

In my experience, even with the lagfix, TouchWiz was very sluggish (I run a minimal amount of apps in the background so I know I'm not overloading my phone). Using LauncherPro though, I don't experience any lag at all.

That's what I'm trying to understand, say you use LauncherPro on a Captivate. Your not able to disable TWLauncher (like you can on an Epic), your only laying something over it, but it"s still there or am I looking at it the wrong way? Sorry for so many questions.

No Launcher Pro will run if you set it as the default and Touchwiz will not..It is still there but not active so it will not take any resources..

Thanks, that what I was trying to understand.
I tried removing the TWLauncher on my Captivate(after making a nandroid backup). I was sucessfull at removing it but the first time I rebooted my phone the android.process.acore service kept FC'ing every 15 seconds or so. So I eneded up restoring my backup. Be nice to figure out how to remove it w/out screwing the phone up. Nothing else seemed to have a problem with me removing it other than that service.

100% agree
I have my nexus one for already a month I been noticing a mayor lags and sometimes freezes when been used. I wanted to know how to fix this lags I'm actually surprise with a 1ghz snapdragon it lags so much, even my hd2 running windows didn't lag as much. I'm running stock froyo no widgets I do have task manager so I do kill my apps often. I don't wanna root the device I always find my self going back to stock. I feel like I'm not using the nexus one to its full potential. thanks
For a start you don't need a task killer. Just let Android manage itself.
As for the lag, i think you just get used to it.
If you have a live wallpaper, turn it off, because that can cause stutter and lags, etc...

Yeah Im not running any animated wall papers or widgets I notice running a bench mark with widgets it gives me a lower score. Before I had facebook & twitter widgets, 2 email accounts and one exchange running so I guess all those accounts syncing was slowing down my phone. also I used 3gb of data I was pretty shocked with out doing any tethering.
Hey guys,
I'm on stock rom and I can feel the lags when I'm using the phone like when I'm using Smart Keyboard, I can feel the slowness it takes to register one key to another key.
Do you feel the same too?
Other than flashing custom roms, does freezing applications like F-secure and Car Home helps?

brutal........
Install "Watchdog task manager lite" from market to check what apps are eating up the cpu cycles. Then either change the apps' setting to reduce cpu usage or delete the app. This should help reduce the lagging.
Perhaps use a Launcher such as LancherPro or ADW which are downloadable from the Market. I choose LauncherPro as personally I find this to have least lag possible.
I'm using Go Launcher currently.

I think LP and ADW are much smoother... especially paid versions.
I see. But then when I'm typing, it's really laggy in terms of when I press on the keys, the letters won't appear immediately in the textbox instead awhile later..
Does Launcher Pro have the ability to put labels on your app drawer like the stock LG home screen? I couldn't find this option. It's a shame because Launcher Pro really is much smoother.

Did you install any custom roms?
For me, i root the phone and install ClockworkMod to do a Nandbackup. Then install Titanium to do another set of apps backup and i DELETED all the LG bloatware i.e. SNS (LG FB & Twitter), Carhome, F-Secure and others LG apps. I think delete them is better than Freeze as it free up RAM.
And with Backup on titanium, you can always restore them back if you want to, and ultimately, you have nandbackup via clockworkmod where by you can simply revert back to everything original as it is before.
After i did the above, phone is much smoother and no restart nor crash. Note: i use LP instead of the laggy LG launcher.
Custom ROM is the way to go actually. After i did the above, i went further by flashing with Fear V8.0 ROM, then reapply LG Widget (love the calendar) and apply the battery icon modification. Fear V8.0 is a super fast ROM, i never encounter a single lag and everything is so zippy, infact, hyper-responsive! Even faster than stock 2.3.3 android with LP on my Nexus S.
The only draw back is the battery drain faster i.e. 8hrs overnight on wifi drain 16% - note that i got 1 exchange, 3 IMAP, Whatsapp, Evernote, Twitter & FB all turned on. But for me, i prefer to have a super phone and charge whenever i get to do so, then having to wait and experience the lag.
Hey guys,
I had the Droid 3 for about half a year now and got it rooted few months ago. I deleted all the bloatware in hopes of getting the phone to run faster however it seems just as slow or maybe even slower than my old Droid 1. When I unlock my phone (widgetlocker) it takes a while to show what is on the screen, if i hit message icon it load message for a long time, when i click on just phone and recent it take a long time. It should be so slow IMO.
Anything I can do to check what is going on?
Any of you experience this?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
If you say it's slower than your OG Droid, then something must have gone completely wrong... sorry. But put a Droid and Droid 2 beside and say that again...
It might be because of 3rd party Apps... Who needs widget locker? I'm using GoLauncher EX 2.51 because it's the fastest experience (all newer versions are slower). I have removed all bloatware and beyond. The only widgets I use is the GenieWidget, Facebook Widget and the GoLauncher Toggle Widget.
The one thing that seems to slow down my droid are the widgets. If you have just 3 widgets, it should be fast.
Did you ever get the first system update to 5.6.890? That made it faster IMO. I got the Droid 3 the day it came out and had to use launcherpro because the redraw times on the stock launcher were ridiculous. After the update couple of months ago the stock launcher is faster than ever.
Add ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 and debug.sf.hw=1 to build.prop to solve the lag when unlocking phone etc.
Then if you're not satisfied you could try V7 speedy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17222220
The stock launcher is a slow piece of ****, you will have a lot of redraw with it. Widget locker will also slow down the unlocking of the phone.
Toss Liberty Rom on it and you'll see a huge difference in speed. I'm currently running Hashcode's CM9 selfkang alpha because I'm daring like that.
It's ridiculously fast, never seen anything like it.
I posted this in the Sprint HTC One forums and got little in reply, let me know whose you guys think
I don't know if this is an issue with 4.3 specifically because I don't recall if this was happening since I installed the update..but my multitasking with this phone has been horrible lately. I mean no matter what app I switch to it begins to reload, even if it's the last one I used or a light application (ex Google Now to Messaging). I already found it frustrating how upon switching apps with this phone it would show you a frozen image for a brief moment before before allowing you to interact with the actual application, but now apps are actually having to reload. I'm using apex pro and it's also redrawing nearly every time I go back to the homescreen, be it from internet, floorboard, messaging etc. Not sure why it's happening but it started like a week ago and my phone has been feeling pretty ****ty because of it. My GS4 w/touchwiz has less multitasking issues than this phone right now, any ideas on what's going on? Stock unrooted 4.3

Isn't there a specific setting that locks the launcher in memory to prevent the redraws? Are you running a custom rom or you're using apex on a stock rom?

There is that setting, but when it's enabled a notification sits in the dropdown that says to remove apex from the permanent memory, you can't swipe it away either. Really stupid, never seen a phone with that notification before, my s2 with 1gb of ram multitasked amazing. Regardless it's all aspects of multitasking not just launcher redraw, if I switch from messages to setting and then back to massages, it'll have to reload regardless of how light of an app it is.
Stock unrooted 4.3. Rebooting gives me a few days without hindrance but eventually the problem resurfaces, I barely have any apps installed and none of them are out of the ordinary.
