Having trouble getting devices to have internet via tethering from Bionic - Motorola Droid Bionic

I did a factory reset as well on the Bionic and I have a legitimate Verizon tethering plan. I tried doing allowed devices by mac address like for my Xoom and it still wouldn't work.
Any tethering help/tips?

What IP range are you using?

[Q] Streak 7 wifi + iPhone Tethering

Has anybody been able to connect their Streak 7 wifi to an iPhone hotspot using native tethering?
I have tried multiple Streak 7s running stock 2.2.2 and HD7, multiple iPhones running 4.3.4 and iOS5 Beta. I have tried both bluetooth and wifi. So far I have had no luck. Bluetooth connects and even says that the iPhone is being used for data, yet apps can not access the internet. It sees the wifi infrastructure hotspot but fails to authenticate.
Basically the device has been useless for me when I am not at home.
So, am I missing something, or do the Streak and iPhone just not get along?
Do GSM iphone 4's have wifi tethering? I thought that was only in iOS 4.2.x that the CDMA iphone uses. I dont believe it was in 4.3 and i havnt been following the 5.0 betas very closely
The normal tethering available is bluetooth and USB, neither of which android support (as the iphone requires a custom driver for usb tethering)
Yes, the iPhone 4 GSM does provide wifi infrastructure tethering. It was added earlier this year in 4.3.
Also Honeycomb 3.2 appears to support the Bluetooth profile for Internet Access provided by the iPhone. It even explicitly states "Connected to device for Internet access". Everything connects fine, however data is not actually working.
I've done it with my LG Optimus V and it works perfectly.
It works with nearly every rom released thus far. Iphone must have TetherMe installed. Then mobile hotspot will be enabled by default. It does not matter whether its gsm nor wifi. Firmware for hotspot 4.3.x and better. Via blutooth anything under that.w
Thanks ariveraiv. The iPhones (3GS and 4) that I have tried are not JB but have tethering plans. IIRC Tether Me just bypasses the carrier checks and enables native tethering.
The Streak 7s see the iPhones in both wifi and Bluetooth. Wifi attempts to connect but is never successful. Bluetooth appears to be successful on HD7, but data does not work.
If I had to guess: wifi is failing to authenticate the WPA password and Bluetooth may just be having an issue with the profile from the hacked xoom ROM (the stock Froyo ROM does not appear to have an Internet Data BT profile).
BTW ariveraiv - Which ROM are you using on your Streak7?

Is it an ad hoc WiFi hotspot? If so, the Streak will not natively be able to connect to that (though there is a way to make it happen).

No, it's infrastructure.
I am familiar with the wpa_supplicant fix, but that isn't the issue. ad-hocs wouldn't even show up in a wifi scan. I can see the hotspot and the iPhone shows the Streak connecting, but the connection fails after a few seconds.
What's the key to getting a Droid to broadcast a hot spot that the Streak will connect to?
so if i buy a wifi only streak 7 i wont be able to use my iphone to connect to the internet and such? i went into a t-mob store to look at the streak 7 and just buying it outright, the sales guy said it would connect fine? was his answer incorrect? or is it that it has the 4g from t-mob?
sorry for the newb question but i'm new to the droid world as i've been an iphone/mac guy

All I can say is that I have not been able to. No others have commented on similar problems.
I use my pdanet all day on my iphone4 to tether my tablet. In order for this to work, YOU MUST fix your wpa supplicant on your streak. Use the supplicant from the xoom. It works.

The OG Droid only broadcasts in ad hoc mode. You need the updated WPA_Supplicant for the Streak in order for it to connect (Android issue; they purposely made it so you can't connect to ad hoc out of the box). You need to be rooted to do this. Go here:

If you have WiFi Tether for your Droid (also has to be rooted), you'll be good to go after using the above tweak.

[Q] Official Verizon WiFi HotSpot (Tether) working on Rooted Bionic?

I have a rooted Bionic and I have paid my $30/month for the official tethering capability. I can get my laptop and Xoom to connect to the Bionic and get an IP address. However, the Xoom and Laptops cannot get access to the internet. Pulling up a browser on the phone shows that there is an active 4G internet connection.
I was at Motorola today and was able to try some of their Bionic's and I was able to connect to them from my Xoom without issue and get on the web.
So my main question is, does anyone have a rooted Bionic working with the official Verizon HotSpot?

I have been able to get it working rooted with deblurred 1.6 1.7 and 1.8. I also connect my Xoom to it as well.
Strange. Looks like the phone is not giving a DNS server to my Xoom or laptop. When I configured the DNS on the laptop to be 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 I was able to get a connection. And it was FAST! 10M down and 3M up!
So how do I fix this? Anyone?
I'm paying for the hotspot too and have no issues with my Bionic. The hotspot works great for me with 3 different PCs, an Eye-fi card, and a Viewsonic G-Tablet. I'm on stock, rooted. Something is definitely wrong for you, just call Verizon tech support and they'll help you with the issue.
If you have to goto the store, be sure to unroot your phone before going in. It's best to avoid getting your account flagged for rooting.

The alt server is 8.8.4.4, for your xoom and your laptop, try renewing your lease. May have a stale IP.
Missed that, Thanks for catching the DNS mistake. Changed to 8.8.4.4

Do u have masqed crusader installed on ur Bionic? Had the same issue w/ laptop and iphone connecting via the bionic mobile hotspot. Masqed crusader caused the issue for me, flashed the rom and was good, minus the troublesome app..

I did have it and thought it might be the culprit, so I told it to undo itself and then I uninstalled it. Might not have completely gotten out of the way, huh? I started this thread after I had uninstalled it.
I don't want to have to deal with reflashing back to stock just to get DNS working, hopefully there is another way. I'll contact the app author...
I also have this issue. I've just been working around it by staticing the DNS servers...
Issue solved
I grabbed /system/bin/dnsmasq from a Nandroid backup and replaced the version that Masqued Crusader left around and now everything is back to normal with tethering. The developer was very helpful in debugging this.
Hopefully a new version of MC will preserve the original dnsmasq.

Could you please post that file or email it to me at technohippie at gmail dot com ??
I have the exact same problem, but I wasn't thinking ahead enough to make a Nandroid backup before installing this Masqued Crusader thing...arrrg!

[Q] Data Sharing (WiFi) on HTC Vivid

Is anyone aware of an app to allow sharing of the phones data connection through WiFi on the HTC Vivid?
Is rooting necessary?
FYI: I'm not interested in AT&T's official data sharing as I'd have to change from my grandfathered unlimited plan.

Looking to purchase the Vivid if it works for my scenario (WiFi Router). If I do end up getting this device and test this I will definately share the results.
Thanks for the info!
WIFI Tether does not work
I tried the WIFI Tether and it does not work when I had the Atrix they were able to modify the entitlement check to have hotspot access is this possible with the Vivid. Thanks

AirDroid won't work w/ ICS Leak?

I can't get AirDroid to connect using ICS leak 213.
I can't even get my phone to respond to a ping from my laptop on the same network, though I can ping my laptop from my phone on the same network.
Any ideas?

It sounds more like a network/router issue than an AirDroid issue, it worked fine for me in .213 and .215 leaks.
Is your phone on a VPN connection? If yes, then it's possible that your phone has multiple IP addresses and AirDroid is showing one which is not accessible from your laptop.
Did you try both connection methods? Via the local IP and via the AirDroid.com wensite?
No VPN connection.
I tried both by local IP and web.airdroid.com, and checked that the local IP is correct from both About>Status and my router.
If I try to connect just through Chrome, I never get anything. If I try to connect by scanning the QR code through my phone, I can sometimes get it to connect initially and bring my to the AirDroid desktop, but I almost always can't access contacts, messages, etc.
I tried port forwarding 8888 for my local IP, but that didn't seem to make any difference.
The strange thing is that my Touchpad works fine with AirDroid. In the past, I've had some odd Wifi issues with both my Droid 4 and my Droid 3, e.g. adding an Exchange account won't complete setup if I'm using wifi on either of those phones (on GB and ICS), but it has worked fine on Android devices without cellular radios (my Touchpad and Archos 101).
It appears like it's a network/router issue, but at the same time appears like it's not.

There could be a clue right here. Do you have a mobile data subscription?
If yes, then perhaps there are some very small WiFi drops which cause Android to try to connect to mobile data instead of WiFi, and the time it spends without the local IP might just be enough to impact AirDroid performance.
You could try the following:
Put the phone in Airplane Mode to disable all wireless connections
Manually enable WiFi - this is possible without disabling Airplane Mode
Now you are on a pure WiFi connection, no mobile data or Bluetooth PAN to interfere. Does that improve AirDroid's behaviour?
Also, if you know how your router works, you can give the Droid 4 a fixed IP address to avoid the IP changing when there is any network hiccup. Most modern routers usually seem to remember which IP they assigned to a device via DHCP anyway (at least for a limited amount of time) but it's worth a shot.
No such luck with the Airplane Mode/Wifi. I outright turning the cell radio off with Phone Info too, still didn't work.
With DD-WRT, my router will keep IPs and MACs associated, so it's not that the IP is changing.
If I reboot the phone, it'll work a little bit initially but eventually stop working and I won't be able to ping it either.

Tethering PS4 through VPN...and Tmobile still knows!?

Hello Everyone.
I am using a VPN and the Wifi Tether Router paid app from the market. I am curious as to how T-mobile still knows I am tethering, as I just got a "You used 80% of your High speed data" text from them (Have unlimited data plan)
Any ideas on how to completely hide? SSL? Proxy? Only seem to have issues with the Playstation and not the PC....
Any help appreciated...
The PS4 data probably shows up different on the network than PC data. I've read that T-Mobile put some new things in place on their end to identify data usage being masked.

I saw similar results. I noticed that when I tether, it doesn't route me through my openVPN connection regardless of the tethering method I use. You can test this on your own, fire up the vpn, then tether to your PC, then go check the external IP on your PC.
You'll most likely need a non-stock ROM for it to work. The ROM probably reports all MACs and the traffic passing through it to T-MO.
Try this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3071188
