[Q] The big question - Should I Check Re-Partition or not

Hi,
I'm probably gonna flash a new firmware on my Galaxy S for the first time via odin.
I've found many opinions regarding this, so I would be happy to hear your thoughts - Should Re-Partition be checked or not?
Also, what version of Odin and PIT file would you recommend?
The firmware version I'm about to flash is I9000JPJG8.
Thanks!

[Q] Where can I find PDA/Modem/CSC files?

I'm trying to install the DocRambone series on my Samsung Galaxy S, but when I get to HOWTO#1 it says:
"2.Select the PDA/Modem/CSC/.PIT files in Odin. (.PIT and PDA are required. CSC and Modem are HIGHLY recommended. They may be necessary depending on the PDA! Try flashing all three BEFORE reporting bugs, if you only used one initially!)"
Now, the .PIT file I've already found(I chose the 512 since I understand that the 513 is for older versions and 803 is for Froyo). But I don't know where to find the other things, meaning PDA, CSC and Modem? Which ones should if pick(if there is more than one) and why?
If they are on my phone already, how do I mount them in Odin?
My firmware version is
PDA: I9000XWJM2
Phone: I9000XXJM1
CSC: I9000NEEJM1
Thanks alot

Anyone who can help me?
Which Version Froyo? It sounds like you like to flash Froyo..
ok
You must make a Clean Stock Froyo Install.. I think u choose XXJPK take the files at the Tut..! ;D And then you can flash the "Custom Rom" via update.zip
Think thats it is what u mean..
I'm not flashing Froyo, I'm flashing for DocRomboe which is 2.1 (I think?) .. but like I said, the guide sais what I said above.. I need to find PDA, CSC and modem files, because (accordimg to the guide) Odin needs those files.. I'm following the big faq guide, so if anyone could tell me what to do, I'd appreciate it

Oh come on, I really wanna do this soon !!
Read the Docrombone thread again and see what rom it is for. Its a mod. Now go find the rom it wants, something like say JM5 or JM8? do a search and you'll see people link it. Or goto http://www.samfirmware.com/ and make a account to view the firmwares there. I have no idea what rom that mod wants since you are the one wanting to install it
If you are looking for MODEM and CSC files specifically for 2.1, you can pull the ones from Richthofen's post here
-OR-
If you want to maintain your JM1 MODEM/CSC files, like the above poster suggested, visit Samfirmware

[Q] How to go back to old version :( i am stuk in P1000XWJMI

Use this patch.
Then you can install roms with the locked bootloaders by modifying the odin files before you flash. You have to untar the files, remove a few files, them retar the files into the odin file, and flash.

How to Root when you have 2.3.6, kernel LA6?

Hello I am sorry to be a nuisance but I wonder if someone could help me. I made a mistake I think in updating to 2.3.6 baseband N7000XXLA4 kernel N7000XXLA6. I have been reading the posts and as they suggest downgrade via PC Odin. My concern however is if I do this will my flash counter increase and will I get the yellow triangle?
Thanks in advance

When you flash any stock ROM with PC odin, it won't raise counter, nor it give triangle.
Remember, never flash any custom ROM/Kernel with PC Odin.
You are on right track, Download any older, directly rootable ROM from here and flash with PC Odin
Hijacking the thread a little bit since I noticed the Doc was here and it involves downgrading to stock ROM
I'm on a rooted LC1 rom and want to downgrade to this stock rom... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20208273
I'm downloading the file right now and have about 45min left so I don't know exactly what's inside the archive.
But... do I really need Odin to downgrade? In my case... isn't it enough to flash the rom using CWM?
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Thankyou so much for replying Dr Ketan

Update:
Download has finished and the file inside the archive is called N7000XBKK4_N7000OXXKK5_N7000XXKK5_HOME.tar.md5
I renamed the extension to .rar which allowed me to extract it. Inside are the following files...
boot.bin
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
zImage
Any assistance on how to downgrade to this rom would be highly appreciated
Can it be done with CWM recovery?
Brgds... /Tubgirl
First.of all, dont manipulate qith file name.
Just extracted upto .tar.md5 is enough.
Another thing you have cwm (it needs cf root cwm, not stock recovery) then you can flash it with that, if you want to keep root intact.
You can.also use pc odin to flash any stock.ROM. With pc odin u will lose root.

Thanks Doc.
In my case I want to lose root because I'm sending my Note in for repair. Can I just flash with CWM recovery (choosing to flash everything including the kernel) and I'll be back to an early Stock ROM without root?
Thanks again Doc for taking your time
Brgds... /Tubgirl
Then best way to flash it with pc odin.
This will auto unroot u too.

Thanks again... flashing with Odin was easy and it didn't increase the counter.
Unfortunately it didn't solve the problems I'm having so I guess I have to send my Note in for repair. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577638

Hi kramevans,
To ease your concern and worries, try watching this video from Ashwin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJjh6gi0Spw
I myself had the same doubt until I watch this video and perform the downgrade and rooting, step by step...and am now on custom rom...

Thank you doc, planning to root/flash my note to ICS. I don't know where to start(afraid in some case) to do it.
can we unroot our phone to get back warranty???
Flash any Stock ROM with PC Odin, will unroot device.
Just so I understand...
I have just bought a GN7000 off contract, so unlocked and unbranded. It has the same LA6, 2.3.6 and radio as the OP.
I've some experience with Android because I've rooted my HTC DesireHD, but not a lot. I want root to run Titanium and some other things that require root but have no real desire to flash additional roms (certainly not at the moment).
If I understand what I've read, and the sheer number of different posts and cross referencing means its hard to get a clear definitive view of what the current state of play is but as I understand it the options seem to be:
1. To root the phone without getting the warning counter you need to flash (with odin) an old samsung firmware then you can root it. If you upgrade after this you will need to wipe the phone and start again, and, you will need to use other tools too.
2. I also read of Mobile Odin and the post on that seems to indicate it can root the newer ROMs, but does it cause the warning counter to get updated or is it safe from that? Can I un-root a phone rooted in this way?
From the look of things option 2 seems the way to go, if I can understand the answers to the questions - which I can't seem to from the posts I've read.
Any help/advice would be most welcome.
Cheers
Hi guys. Iā€™m new entry with N7000, from all point of views and I need your help.
I have this firmware on my phone: PDA N7000XXLA6; PHONE N7000XXLA4;
CSC N7000OXXLA1 (note I am from Romania ā€“ Orange carrier ā€“ and the phone is unlocked).
Before custom ROMs, I understand that I must do a downgrade.
Can you, please, tell me:
- what stock ROM should I choose (from those posted by Dr. Ketan) for downgrade?
- is it necessary to do a factory reset or any other thing before flashing stock ROM with PC Odin?
Thank you
Done it.
Thank you all for your posts.
