Please check the first few posts of the threads from where you downloaded the ROM's, they usually give a very detailed instructions. On a thread like THIS, there are a lot of chances that people will only give THAT part THAT they think is important.
yo
there is only 1 file you set in odin as "PDA" file, use the "803 pit" file and flash as normal..
good luck

This is a DEVELOPER FORUM.
Please read stickies and instructions for the specific ROM you are flashing. The info is everywhere, it won't be spoon-fed to you.
Hello,
1) if I wanted to flash to JVO with Odin, is the setup in the attached pic correct (especially the files on PDA, PHONE, CSC and repartition ticked)?
2) Wasn't there a bootloader I needed to flash? I think I read somewhere the bootloader changed with GB.

1)Yup
2)The bootloaders are included in the file you have ( See where it says sbl in the file name of the PDA )
Yeah saw that SBL and that made me suspicious whether that file really should go into the PDA slot and leave the bootloader slot blank.

Nope leave it EXACTLY as you have it there mate and you are good to go.
and repartition has to be ticked as well, right?

Yes.
You are using a pit file so you need repartition ticked.
Thanks a lot for the quick help!

no don't repartition unless you want to in which case you need ONE EXTRA FILE: 512.pit!! You sound like a newbie so depending where you are coming from -stock firmware-wise, by all means repartition but you must obtain the 512.pit that you add to odin and flash with the rest of the rom. WARNING: this will wipe all your data and apps and repartition your phone including the sd card. make sure that you remove any external SD cards if you have one and the SIM card too...for peace of mind
UPDATE: oops! England has beaten Algeria...in cyberworldcup
I'd consider myself as noob, yep.
I thought I have to repartition when upgrading from JPY (2.2.1) to JVO? I don't know when this has to be done. Just saw the PIT file recommended for JVO on samfirmware and somehow assumed I have to repartition.
So what should I do, what's the difference if I do or not do it?
I backed up all data and wiped the phone before so there's not much on it right now (and no lagfix or so used, just stock rom with CF kernel).

if you're sure that you used the same pit file as before i.e; 512.pit then you don't have to repartition at all.....if in doubt then repartition. BTW which pit file did you see on samfirmware.com? Should I assume that this is your first rom flashing from stock JPY? Also, make sure that you use the JVO rom that includes GB bootloaders.
Before? I never flashed a full ROM via Odin, only kernel (CF), thus I never re-partitioned myself.
Until now I used KIES always to flash ROMs.
If re-partitioning works like on a HDD I guess then this can be skipped unless something changed partition wise from Froyo to GB?
So do I need to re-partition at all?
Hey guys, gonna steal the end of this thread.
Currently I am on 2.2:
PDA: JPA / PHONE: JPP / CSC:JP7 (MET)
I want to use ODIN to upgrade to STOCK 2.2.1 and for it to change the CSC to XEU so that 2.3.3 (and future updates) will be done through kies automatically.
Can somebody confirm how I do this? Which file do i need to d/l - all three? And do I (and why) need to repartition?
Thanks in advance

If you used Kies anyway, why not use it now to update to 2.2.1? Afaik you can change the CSC with market apps (think I read that somewhere but someone may want to confirm this). Anyways, you could just stick with your normal CSC as GB will be released to the rest of Europe anyway.
Currently, it's uncertain whether there will be more updates after GB afaik.
But yes, our question remains: do we have to re-partition at all if we only used Kies so far to update ROMs?

Tried changing the CSC but it's didn't work. I'm with meteor and they are useless. So what i want is the stock 2.2.1 for UK and ireland as if it was d/l form kies and be on my way

Official Samsung GB for UK has already rolled out, it's called XXJVO and believe me once you've done your first ODIN rom flashing you will never stop flashing other..(custom roms and kernels) if there're any geeky tendencies inside you and just waiting to be released... see this thread and all your fears will be assuaged!

Thanks! There it says:
"Note: Re-partition is not a must, use it only if you need to change partition sizes on the device, but in most cases you will not need to repartition at all." question answered.
@Unregistered: you could use I9000XXJPY from samfirmware, JPY was the one that was offered to me by Kies back then (German unbranded SGS). But someone may want to confirm this to you first, as I see lots of others 2.2.1 ROMs there and not sure what the difference is. Samfirmware offers a single file and once extracted you should have 3 files.
I just wonder why the 2.2.1 ROM files do not show on that website which CSC is used, maybe it's universal or something?
Well, I guess Widget21 has a point here. If you are willing to flash now with Odin, you might be willing to do it with GB too, then the CSC won't matter (it doesn't matter much anyway as I learned).
Just be sure your 3 button combo is working and that you connect with direct USB.

JVO has multiCSC and UK's xeu is included in it so no need to worry about changing CSCs...remember the 'Thanks' button is there for a reason
@Unregistered: yeah, sorry, that's what I meant. If you wanna flash GB in the future you might want to do it with Odin and then the CSC shouldn't matter anymore.
For some reason, I'm unable to find out the CSC on the file and it's not listed. The JPY I downloaded from samfirmware recently has DBT as CSC (Germany). If you download the JPX file and extract it the CSC file might tell which region it is (as in my case).
@Widget21: I used my thanks feature up for today (5 max). I'll try tomorrow again.
I just downloaded this:
http://hotfile.com/dl/100618077/49a97b4/I9000XXJPY.rar.html
JPY_JPY_JPY.tar. I thought i was getting the three files. Where do i go from here
Hello All,
Good Day
i wonder if someone can help me with how Odin using Odin to flash the firmware I9000PTRJV8 OR I9000OJVJV9...
i have downloaded the Firmware and have extracted the file but it's not like the rest of the firmwares files (Modem, Phone & CSC) it's Different (Boot, Modem & Sbl) and other files.
Q: can someone tell me what's the steps of flashing in this case?
FYI that the current firmware in the device (i9000) is I9000XENJV4 and previously it was I9000OXAJVQ.
i really appreciate your quick response
Thanks
Check flashing tutorial in general-section..it's sticky one, you can't miss it.
Sent from my CM'd SGS
Thanks a lot
Hi guys, just purchased a new SGS from the store, it is still on Froyo though, I wish to upgrade it to GB with Odin, and I've finished downloaded XXJVT firmware from
http://www.sammobile.com/showthread.php?t=17
after I extract them, I got these:
CODE_I9000XXJVT_CL617736_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000XXJVT_REV_00_CL1064602.tar.md5
GT-I9000-CSC-HOME-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.md5
s1_odin_20100512.pit
I know that PIT file is for PIT slot, user_low_ship is for PDA, Modem is for Phone slot, but as you can see there, there are 2 CSC files, CSC Multi and CSC Home-Multi, which one should I choose? and is there any extra steps before I flash them with Odin? any help is appreciated!
In upgrading firmware from Froyo to GB you need to upgrade bootloader as well. But before that, check whether your phone can enter "download mode" or not.
If can, then find gingerbread bootloader. You can search it here in XDA, or you can search [Ramad] stock ROM. He always provide the package that include bootloader. I'm not sure about the above firmware.
I read it somewhere that the bootloader is already included in GB, isnt it?

??? Where do you live?!
i lived in malaysia but i bought this phone, second-hand actually from a unknown person. so i have to choose malaysian version then? lol sorry i'm really noob about this thing
if its i9000 then just find i9000 firmware for Malaysia
and practice using the thanks button
i already checked the malaysian version but that is carrier-based version. i'm confident that this phone is not from a carrier.
long story short, i bought this phone but still in stock Samsung 2.3.3. then i flashed the value pack and later on i flashed the ICSGCS rom. the baseband version of my i9000 is I9000XXJVU. so which one should i choose?
i'm really confused here.
i think i got it. i'll try to flash the file that i've downloaded first. thanks for your help sir
my solution is solved. thanks for giving me tips and clue where to get the stock rom
