I want to overclock my SGS, and I´m running Darky´s ROM v10, Gingebread 2.3.3
Wich kernel should I use? Thanks in advance :3
I recommend Talon Kernel ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057705 ). It doesn't have a few usefull for me features (like swap or compcache) but work perfectly. It's very stable.

Sounds good, but any chances on overclocking over 1.2 GHz?
If u wish to do that i'd reccomend you to switch to a cm7 based rom and install tk-glitch kernel, that supports overclock up over to 1.5GHz
PD: si, soy el guzmanus de eol, el mundo es un pañuelo xD
I had Darky´s v10 RC6 and talon Kernel and it worked incredibly.
Regards.
Actually all ROMs based on Cyanogen's mod are very unstable. Actually they are only for ppl who know how to create workarounds (or repair) some of problems. I don't recommend these roms and kernels. Maybe in June/July these ROMs will be enough stable to daily usage
From what I know actually developers of Talon Kernel are working towards increased overclocking. They created patch that support overclocking to 1,3 GHz but it was deleted day after (probably it was bugged ). I think we should wait.
Btw... Is it worth to overclock CPU? Actually all apps and games can't fully utilize 1 GHz CPU.

This is not true at all! I've been using CM7 for a week now OC'd at 1.5 without any issues. The only niggle was setting up the voltages for the OC, but other than that it's very stable and doesn't get the credit it deserves!
Also, the devs are very helpful and have their own Q&A thread if anything does for wrong (which for me it hasn't).
It's defiantly been stable enough for daily use IMHO since the 06/05Nightly build. & battery life isn't that bad either (~70% of stock) which I expect can only improve with releases esp as the devs admit the sleep code is a bit faulty.
I'm not saying everyone should jump on it, but I wouldn't just dismiss straight away. Give it a try & you may be pleasantly surprised
Anyway, shouldn't this be in the Q&A section and not development?
I used CM7 nightly build a few days ago and It wasn't working properly. I'm checking every week a new builds looking for "stable" version. I have problems with making a call to anyone, problems with mount external microsd card and more. I haven't tested OC because I don't need it. It's true that CM devs are very helpfull I'm still waiting for version which will be stable for me, and all features which I need will work properly. I have CM ROM on my old HTC G1, and this ROM was amazing so I still wait for stable build for SGS

That's curious. Did you check the Kernel wiper you're supposed to use each time you flash/upgrade? It supposedly gets rid of most issues. Anyway, I guess maybe I just got lucky with it working well for me then.
Hmmm... I will check again Maybe I forgot about it this time

Those problems you talk about are mostly produced because of wrong bootloaders, specially if you come from a gingerbread ROM. Try flashing froyo bootloaders and then using CM7, it is awesomely stable
Doom Kernel V0.3
Apparently on the Xperia forums DooMLord has a kernel out called DooMKernel as well. This is in no way affiliated with that. I may change mine to Doom Boot or Doomed Kernel but for now he asked me to make a note like this so here it is.
First, I would like to give a big THANKS to Echts for helping me with repacking the boot.img and get this thing bootable...
Second, THANKS to tekahuna for the OC modules
This kernel contains OC and non OC versions. Speed tweaks, memory tweaks and network tweaks have been included after V0.1. All the non OC versions include all the tweaks.
V0.3 Now increases SDcard read write cache from 128kb to 4096kb
I appreciate any feedback I can get from this. It will work with ANY FROYO rom this is NOT a GB kernel.
How to install:
1) Download
2) Flash in CWM
3) Enjoy your OC kernel

CHANGELOG
V0.3 Added SDcard Read/Write speed increase
V0.2 Added lowmemorykiller settings
Added ADJ tweaks
Added Network tweaks
Tweaked Wifi supplicant scan settings in kernel itself
No more lags when installing apps from market.
V0.1 Stock Kernel with OC at 1.18GHz
I tip my hat to you sir. Looking forward to tinkering with kernel code and working on optimizations along the way.
What's the maximum overclock rate? 1.5GHz?
Will thus also work on Thriller rom?

Nooooo as of right now, testing tekahuna's modules, 1.23Ghz was as far as I could push without reboots and FC's.
Sorry forgot to mention that. Right now it is at what tekahuna calls the sweet spot of 1188MHz or 1.18GHz. That is the max as this is just a test speeds will increase slowly. Other tweaks and features will be added slowly.

Yes it will work with any of the thrill roms should work with O3D roms as well AS LONG AS IT IS FROYO this will not work on GB it is a froyo only kernel. Any rom in the Thrill development section will be fine.
How did you manage to get the boot.img repacked? I started trying to use mkimage instead of mkbootimg but to no avail. I have tinkered with all the different settings. Basically I'm just curious what you put for -a , -e , -d , and -C , because I can't get mine to repack. Also, how did you order the various inputs. Because, I just keep getting a usage output. And when I don't get that and it seems to run, still no new boot.img is created.
Thanks.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
I will be writing up a nice tutorial here soon. You have to edit unpack-bootimg.pl and like you said the mkimage command has to be just right. Once you get it down the unpacking and repacking is a snap takes no time. It's the adjusting things and what not that becomes the most work.
Beta version 0.2 now contains OC at same clock speed (will release different clock speeds once testing phase is done) also has adjustments to lowmemorykiller, adj, network speeds. Slowly but surely moving along don't want to do too much at once just tweaking a bit then test, tweak a bit more then test. Safest route.
Thank you!
Word. A good how to is definitely needed for working with the Thrill Boot.img. I figured that it couldn't be too difficult. I just feel like i have tried every possible combination for the repacking. But im sure i am just missing something simple. Im assuming the Unpack edit is to change the initial data stripping from 2048 to 76? For now im gonna just include your boot.img that you posted here in my rom im working on (as long as that is cool with you...).
Props to you though for figuring it out...
And thanks to Echts and others for their assistance...
Thanks dude!
So glad that the thrill development scene is finally starting to take off!
Please do, anything I release is free and open to use. That's why we are here right?
And I didn't figure the repack out, it was armcee (sp?) Ricardo that figured it out, he just merely passed the info down the line it finally made it to me lol I actually gave credit to Echts over on O3D forum because he passed the info on to me.
I have to say, the V0.2 kernel definitely speeds things up. Apps run faster, load faster, it's nice... very nice. This is what I have been waiting for, kernel tweaking.

Its kind of hard for me to tell because I have been flashing a lot of things. For what I am doing it seems to last a while. Try it out if you don't like it flash back to stock.
Testing the new Kernel, so far i love it, running SetCPU to keep tabs on CPU... Excellent job @Urabewe
cant wait to see if we can get more frequencies to test the OMAP4 processor... make this phone FLY!!!
nice kernel man but Battery drain seems a little high. well it is a no brainer when OC it take more battery power
Yes it's still a work in progress I did notice a bit of extra drain, I am going to release another kernel that's is not OC but contains the speed boosts. I'm hoping that will cure a bit of the battery problem while still keeping the what I think is incredible speed boost.
Also, can anyone else confirm that the delay/lag while installing apps from the market is basically gone with governor on hotplug max at 1188? I have installed about 5 apps and was trying to see how bad the lag was and didn't really experience any.
Well it's official I am calling it a feature... no more lags when installing from market. Phone remains nice and smooth. This kernel combined with Doomed Froyo Slim (which btw includes this kernel in the rom) has no lags and if you can find any lags in any programs or with the launcher let me know.

guestekrnL Platin Hybrid v1.0
Have you ever asked yourself, why the f*ck it is neccesary that we poor stock users have to use an old outdated linux kernel based on a much older kernel version than an up-to-date CM7 kernel? Well, we don't have to any longer
Stock v20Q kernel is based on linux v2.6.32.9
This kernel is based on linux v2.6.32.55
This is a difference of 46 revisions.
Specials:
First O2X Stock kernel completely based on latest CM7 kernel
Linux base thus is 2.6.32.55 instead of 2.6.32.9 like all other stock kernels
All features have been ported correctly, vibration, brightness setting, auto backlight, led buttons, WIFI tethering, USB tethering, GPS, USB Storage, everything is working
All features known from normal guestekrnL including the GuesteOC app are included and useable
Hybrid parts are taken from both v10E kernel and v20Q kernel
ultrasmooth
A CM7 kernel has never before been successfully ported to 100% stock P990/O2X compatibility.
I might even port other CM7 kernels like VorkKernel to stock in future.
Enjoy the first release.
And attention: Of course it is possible, that the kernel is instable or something does not work. So please report how it works for you.

Very good kernel!
First impression: Very smooth and seems stable, there are just a few little lags in scrolling and reaction time of softkeys.
you are the craziest Dev on Earth;-) but a Genius

Just got one article by droidphile about different parameters of kernel. Although written in context to Kernels developed for SGS-II but great for general reading too.I am going through the article and trying to get a primary knowledge of everything. Noobs like me may take a plunge. Great compilation by droidphile BTW. Thanks to him.

Now the big question.
HID devices such as Bluetooth mini keyboard work perfectly in CM7 ROM. In stock ROMs do not work.
You could research in this line?
I leave an interesting link http://groups.google.com/group/0xlab-devel/browse_thread/thread/e310043d73791d2a/c05e0d21291022e9
THX
Now I'm curious and interested to know.
Does the newer kernel v2.6.32.55 bring any significant improvements or new features over the older v2.6.32.9 kernel?
And is there any reason why LG did not update the kernel whereas for other brands (for example Samsung) they did?
wow, great baater life with the new kernel
Ok,in only write some SMS,have 1call und always a look on the Phone but, looks great.
Right Picture with the Gueste Final
Left the new Platin
Very nice what is your rom cojo11 ?
KERNEL FOR STOCK ROM
AdrenalinForce Kernel fully based on HP SR3R made by the KERNEL MASTER SPICA:
*Description:
-Ive built this kernel as per kosi2001's thread. Thanks to KOSI for the spread of Knowledge.
-thanks to SUPERSKILL for installing ubuntu on virtualbox.
-Thanks to the Kernel Master SPICA who guided me and gave me some knowledge and the stuff to do this. I have complied this with the knowledge Spica gave me.
-To honour the KERNEL MASTER SPICA I've named my system my PC as hp too and I started working on it following the instructions.
-Its fully based on sr3r sources which each one of us can access and available.
-Built with HP Pro ToolChain which spica provided before a week (Thanks to him).
-I tried first with linaro-android-toolchain but could not really get it working somehow.Maybe I wasnt good enough.Sorry for being so bad in this.
-I got overall better performance stability and fluidity with Spica's toolchain and I have tested with this for sometime now.
-Believe me...I am a noob. I have no programing knowledge. I am nowhere near a master like Spica. To be very frank I have just compiled from sr3r sources. I have no more knowledge than compilation so I cannot answer more technical question. Thank you for understanding.
Changelogs:
-the same as Sr3R2 changelogs.
Advantages:
-faster ,more battery friendly in my testing. I guessed its because of Spica bhai's toolchain. I have exactly used the same things and same way as he guided me....Just need to know why I have to do and what will happen if not....I have no idea frankly...I cant explain anymore
Just followed every bit of tutorial he gave me and that chat with him. Any technical issues I need to say...I am a noob and all was because of the toolchain and its master.
EVERY CREDIT GOES TO THE MASTER and those who have guided me and to those who made this wonderful world of ANDRIOD and O2X.

I am in a world where each guy is helping me but I would dedicate this Kernel to a specific few below who were very helpful.
CREDITS:
KOSI(for his thread and spreading the knowledge)
SPICA(for instructions and toolchain)
SUPERSKILL(the guy who supports everybody and works silently)
and all those who will remain patient and supportive to test m first effort.
THANKS EVERYONE

I leave the system management of voltages to the users as it is not applicable to each one of you.I have no issue with this Kernel. Thanks for the understanding.

Featuring a new cpufreq interface, AbyssplugV2, intelliplug and a whole host of new additions that are not available in any other kernel for the x3.
Among them are updates only found in this kernel, saner defaults via config, better optimizations for the actual code and a rewritten version of devfreq.
It also have an updated baseband configuration and built in rather than to keep a module as it makes no sense to have a vital function as a module.
https://bitbucket.org/mourta/liquid_kernel_lge_p880-stable/
Kernel: http://www.mediafire.com/download/viy5a3dtaccd0gm/mourta-stable-08-23.zip
If there is a request for it i also have a ROM available based on grouper blobs, AD optimizations and a build around this kernel with a new dev tree.
For kernel install, it's anykernel, you can install it on any custom ROM, for stock and the lastest updates you will have to head over to Modaco and my original thread.
Note that this is a one time release, if you like it you'll have to head over to modaco to get updates.
it should be noted that the recommended settings is using intelliplug (you may need to use kernel tweaker or trickster mod for that if you're not running my ROM, and abyssplugv2, i also recommend ROW for a sheduler and Westwood for your congestion handling.
Note that you can now overclock to any frequency and it will feed the GPU chip with the needed volatage, this is great for cooking a roast beef but not for any practical use.
Quadrant scores are 8k and the last Antutu was at 16487, no overclocking but you won't reach that without using my ROM.
And with that... i'm done.
Thanks to the IODAK, Fransico, Adam77Root, Faux123 and others that provided code and/or input.

Great work, running your kernel now.
But Iodak was not updated since long ago and its sources does not contain many great fixes from cm11 kernel.
Thats why Demetris relased Cyodak kernel in Android development section. It's Iodak brought up to date with latest cm 11 kernel .
It would great to see Muorta Kernel based on Cyodak instead of old Iodak. We would have your exclusive features with up to date cm11 kernel upgrades. But maybe you already upgraded iodak's source, let us know

Obviously, the real necessary updated patches have been implemented yet ("continuation" means this, too), so it's not necessary nor in Mourta's plans to base it on cyodak (which really isn't the only way to find updated code for our device)

Outdated sources never are a good base for developing a fresh new kernel or ROM, if there is a new compatible code implementation ready to be merged into the code That's the first thing a good developer checks (and if you can, look at Mourta's bitbucket linked in the OP to view his commits, there will be all the principal news about new code implementations)

Can you give more info about your ROM, kernel settings, setup etc. and provide a logcat if possible? That's a rare issue you're having there.I've used my phone for 20 hours now, (%3 battery left) and it slept for about 15 hours, same version.
I suggest you to try flashing the kernel twice.I had such problems with iodak kernel back in the time and flashing it twice had fixed the deep sleep issue.

Can you give more info about your ROM, kernel settings, setup etc. and provide a logcat if possible? That's a rare issue you're having there.I've used my phone for 20 hours now, (%3 battery left) and it slept for about 15 hours, same version.

@peter_altherr And more important thing: have you at least wiped cache and dalvik before flashing the kernel? If yes, try wiping system partition too (no factory reset, you can leave /data partiton intact) then reflash ROM, gapps and kernel, and see how it goes..wait 3 or 4 minutes before trying to wake up device, after the first boot, and deep sleep would start without problems
I have tried the 26/8 version but that still gives me RIL problems, I get no signal whatsoever. I cannot grab a logcat as I need my phone to work right now but I'm Running latest beanstalk version.

@peter_altherr you should unplug it from charger and try unplugged.

@ whoever had freeze/sod problems with last kernel version: a new fixed release has been uploaded (it's a minor release: reverted GPU OC, which was causing the problem). Check official thread for the download link
