[GUIDE] Flash Clockworkmod recovery on Galaxy Mini/Pop - Samsung Galaxy Mini

At first: Download the attachments to this post. warning: If you have Android Froyo, download CWM-Froyo.tar. If you have Gingerbread, download tass-recovery-cwm.tar
For the steps 4-9, there is a screenshot below.
After downloading, you can start using my little guide!
1. Power down your phone.
2. Enter download mode by pressing 'Volume down + Home button + power button. Wait a second. After some time the screen says download.
3. Connect through USB to your PC.
4. Launch ODIN v4.38.
5. Wait for Odin to recognize your phone. (At the left, there will be a yellow box that says COM "?", the number can be different.)
6. Select Tass_v1.0.ops by pressing the 'OPS-button'
7. Make sure 'One package' is marked at the left of the window.
8. Select tass-recovery-cwm.tar with the 'One Package-button' at the bottom of your window.
9. Press start, wait 'till your phone reboots. Now you'll have ClockWorkMod-recovery installed.

Does this work for Froyo as well?
If not maybe you should add it to your guide as a warning!
Nevertheless thank you very much for the guide!

Well, as far as my experience goes, it does.
But, found a version that's specially made for froyo, so I'll add it to the post.

Tnx for your tip!
EDIT: added a screenshot...

Hi have the stock 2.3.5, I flashed clockworkmod and I tried to do a backup of my rom. Clockwork on opening says:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
and then when I try to do a backup the same errors...
if I select "mounts and storage" I can't manually mount nothing (/system, /cache, /data).
I try to format the 32GB sdcard again and I changed it with another one (2GB). Same results :-(
anyway the problem it isn't the memory card, clockworkmod can see the contents of it. the problem is that can't mount system folders...

Had the same problem last time. Try to contact the developers over at Clockwork...
You might get some help over there. I've just made this guide, I am not the developer.

You can't backup stock roms using this CWM recovery since it still doesn't supports backing up of rfs partitions. The developer left it so since we believed those who will be using CWM recovery will probably be using any custom rom which is supported for backup.

Agree with yagya.... Cwm fully function on ext 2/3/4 file system only. I've tried on stock rom xxkws2, backup sucseed..but failed to restore.

Yes, you can backup and restore stock roms with latest CWM recovery v5.0.2.6 however, there comes an issue when you try to restore GB backup over cm7 or other custom rom. So, it seems pretty useless.
Also, CWM recovery doesn't work fully with stock roms. Just yesterday someone complained recovery shows error when flashing gingerbread-2.3.6-root.zip file for rooting GB 2.3.6, later when I suggested him to flash it on stock recovery it worked.
So, it's pretty simple and clear custom recovery is good with custom roms only.

Unable to backup stock rom, seeking help.
Hello all and thanks Bunnybugs_007 for the tutorial.
I managed to install CWM v 4.0.0.5 but still I cannot backup my stock rom.
I can boot into recovery mode from CWM (4.0.0.5) But I can't backup stock rom.
I am getting mounting errors. (The only partition I can mount is the sdcard partition).
I would also like to ask you if I can update CWM through itself during recovery mode. Is this possible, I mean, CWM flashing itself?
Or do I have to use ODIN to update CWM 4.0.0.5 to CWM 5.0.2.6.?
This file is in a zip format but it does not have any img file inside...
I own a froyo but keep getting erros in mounting.
Thanks a lot.
P.s.: I been looking around for the answer but haven't figured it out yet. Although the question about CWM updating itself might by absurd i am forced to ask it. The info that I have gathered until now is confusing. I have also tried to update CWM through ROM MANAGER. but its GUI doesn't even recognize the CWM that is already installed. And RM doesn't recognize the phone model, when I try to get an appropriate version for it. So it's of no surprise that RM can't backup stock rom either...

thanks for the guide. going to check it out...

It simply means .. No, you can't backup Stock ROMs.

Hi Guys!
I flashed Clockworkmod recovery in my Galaxy Mini. I have Rom Manager, but when I try to partition my sd card, it says "You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before continuing! Install blah blah blah!"
The ClockworkMod is working in recovery mode too, but I don't know what exactly is the problem!
Help Guys! I desperately want to increase my internal memory

^^ You installed CWM via Odin or Rom Manager? If its through Rom Manager, then I guess something would have turned wrong.

[Q] Bricked - Samsung Logo Repeat, Can't Fix by Stock Rom

Hi all,
My i9000 cannot boot successfully, it repeats the samasung logo again and again.
And when I try to re-flash the stock rom - 20110531_ZSJV5_2.3.3_ROOT_STOCK by ODIN
After reboot, it shows following Error:

E:delete_data_files:Can't mount /data
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot action.

Then it keeps repeating the samasung logo again and again.
Please help!!!!
Can you access the download screen (volume down + home + start) or CWM screen (volume up + home + start)?
If you can access the download screen, use Odin and download the stock Gingerbread from online (do google search), make sure you also have a PIT file like PIT 512 or something, and have the re-partition ticked, try that and see if it fixes the problem.
If you access CWM, maybe voodoo lag fix is on and didn't properly format the partitions.
Thanks
I have tried using ODIN 1.8 and I9000ZSJV6
But the problem still retain
The screen shoot :

You need to get a .pit file (512) and use repartition in Odin when you are flashing the original rom.
Yeah~I have used PIT512 and selected Re-partition, but problem still remain........
Damn ... it looks bad.
I have a suggestion.
Push a speedmod kernel with odin.
Enter recovery mode.
Convert the partitions to RFS (even if they are reported as such).
Redo the flashing of the original rom.
O...situation goes really bad
After I have flashed SPEEDMOD, I enter CWM
and try to convert to RFS, it said:
Can't mount /mnt/sdcard
Backup failed!
Then quit.
And I try to mount internal SD,
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblo0)
(No such file or directory)
Error mounting SDCARD:!
It looks like you have issues with the nand memory. I'm not sure 100% about it but it sounds like this.
In case your nand flash is dead, I really don't know what can you do ... there are few topics related to this issue. Check them out and see maybe is a solution somewhere.
don't use JV6, try flashing using JVQ, and don't use rooted versions, use a pure stock, try using Odin 1.7. It if can't mount, maybe there's a corrupt internal SD.
You may want to look at the stock rom vs an odin custom rom (like darkys resurection edition) and see if everything that that the custom has (minus the mods) is in there. I would get a mounting error for db_data from my stock rom (drove me nuts) because the stock roms did not update that and there for with a re partition it was missing.
I finally found another post on the CM7 forums that mentioned it so it could be an issue for your rom too?
If you determine which file it might be you can pull it from an earlier stock rom (one of them should have it).
You might even try flashing darky's. if it works then you know its a file issue and the phone is likely fine.
G
I flashed over 10 different roms with re-partition but nothing change...........
but luckily warranty should still cover, it is now in factory.....
Thanks All~
Similar problem: Phone stuck in boot up loop
Okay so about 2 months ago rooted and put a new rom on my vibrant. Last night I decided I wanted to go back to the original stock rom by restore my phone back to its original factory settings (at the time it made sense to me). I did this by turning the phone off, holding the volume buttons and power button until a menu came up where I selected wipe to factory setting. In doing this I cleared the rom I had on my phone and am now stuck in a loop where my phone keeps trying to turn itself on but has nothing to boot up. I am able to get to the menu that enables me to wipe my phone to factory setting etc but that hasnt helped all too much. I'm unable to mount my phone now on my mac in order to put a new rom on the sd and Oden does not seem to work for macs and I do not want to put a virtual machine on my computer but will if thats the only solution. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!
That doesn't wipe to factory settings if you had a custom rom. It just wipes the user areas so IF you had a stock rom it would be back like day 1 but with a custom rom its like day 1 of the custom rom.
Though something else happened here too.

Don't use a mac use Odin and do it on windows, download the stock jvq rom again except in windows and use the 512 pit file aswell. See if that works.

Also forgot to mention when using Odin in windows make sure you have the windows drivers by downloading Samsung kies. From the Samsung website.

E:failed to mount /sdcard (File exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /sdcard

i have searched everywhere and found a solution in http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/
However, im new to adb commands is there anyone who can give me step by step guide or anyone who had previous experience could help me
i have also tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984140
did not work
thanks in advance
so im guessing no one had this problem
Does this happen under clockwork mod when you boot up the phone? As in you get the clockwork mod recovery right after you boot up with messages like "Error.." etc saying it can't mount stuff? If yes then you should use the PIT file 512 through odin, then flash a stock ROM. This should resurrect your phone.
thanks for your reply
I have flashed 512 pit file followed by 3 files of a stock rom still no luck
*sigh*
Is your signature up to date? You use the Oserx?
So one time you rebooted your phone, this error suddenly appears?
yea i was using oserx v1 with lagfix, after couple of days i got couple of FC than restarted this error emerged
This is just a wild shot, but you can try if you are desperate

Choose the I9000XWJS3 ## with 512 pit

Thanks for ur reply
I have already done this with no luck :-(
Anyone else have any idea?
Cheers
I also had this problem. Was on stock JVT with semaphore, partitions converted to ext4.
I decided to reboot my phone for no particular reason (was working reat) and when i powered it on kept boot looping without really getting past the samsung gt-i9000 white letters / black background screen.
CWM recovery said it was unable to mount any partition. External SD mounted fine, just nothing from the internel sd. No system, data, whatever. Got me thinking i may had my internal sd malfunctioning.
I just flashed it with odin and my stock branded operator rom (2.3.3) and done nothing more. No repartition. Working great. Was probably some ext4 error.
Before that i had been using cyanogen stable. Started giving FC like mad, so i flashed that stock JVT. On hindsight it may only had been the data partition that had run out of free space but i had no way of knowing when it happened and needed my phone running.
Reflashing got mine running again. Maybe try with Heimdall if odin's not working for you? Be sure to get a complete rom, with bootloaders and such. I'd suggest your operator's stock one. That way you can also send it back to samsung if it still doesn't work.
Thanks for ur reply guys...
Went to some phone repair shop.. They said internal memory card is "fried" and it's going to cost me from $120-250 (Aussie dollar)
worst come to worse it's gonna cost 250 and add another 150 I can get a new phone
So thinking now lol

Flash to stock rom than root agn.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Flashing with odin any stock rom, with 3 or 1 file, repartition on or off, pit 512 or 803 it is not working.
I begin to think that internal sd is hardware damaged
Got the same problem. My battery died on me when i was taking a nap. Plug it into the charger, turn it on and got a bootloop on the galaxy s screen. No matter what rom i flashed. I'm getting lots of red text when the phone reboot. Failed to mount is always in that list and i also know that after flashing my old directory is still being listed when i try to "install update.zip" from a dir. So i'm guessing my eternal memory is fried too. Shame that i had that chip replaced 2 month after i bought the phone brand new. Only lasted me little over a year. And now my provider want $200+ for repair. What a joke. i just bought a s2 galaxy 2 for 460 off craiglist so i don't have to deal with it anymore.
Guys it's a hardware problem. I've tried so many solutions but still no luck.
I don't even remember how did i end up with this problem !
Had this issue and resolved it no problem.
Flashed with odin 1.85 used pit 512 and three files (csc, pda, phone) & repartition checked followed by second flash of csc, pda, phone, no pit and repartition unchecked.
If not working try another stock rom. I had this with one and downloaded a different and all worked. also make sure kies and and kies services aren't running in the background.

Your internal sdcard (not the removable external sdcard) may be messed up.
Did u ever see on ur phone the "Encryption unsuccessful" warning/error ?? If so, then there are a couple of threads about a work around (not a fix) in the Development forum.
If not, then try Heindall instead of Odin, to flash Stock KK4 firmware.

One more thing. Why did you flash speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e-500hz_2? Flash CornKernel_UCKK4_v706 via odin first and then get into recovery mode.
In cwm recovery menu, don't select apply update from sdcard option. Instead select install zip from internal sd card(it's misleading though but this options lets you select zip file from your external sd card) and navigate to CM9 zip file you copied to your sd card. Then flash that zip.

Ok and could you make a touch version please. Thanks
Sent from my HTC Desire C using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Great work!!
I haven't seen any bugs.
Is it working properly???Thinking to change the recovery...
Please if any one used it, can report bugs...
good work, tried it , It Works Fine... it has smaller text so it looks quite nice like that.
but instructions are not noob friendly and incorrect as far as i know
it says boot to clockwork mod, if comming from stock you wont have clockwork mod
and cannot be flashed via cwm anyway,
also ths needs to be flashed via fastboot
like so
open up cmd windows on pc, plug phone into usb
hold the volume down key and hold power button till you boot to bootloader
type this from the command window on your pc
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
good job though bro.
notes:, theres options in backup for internal sd card and we have no internal sd on this phone, so im assuming you can remove these
and upon boot into cwm recovery, it came up with "Warning: no such file" or something like that, but appers to work fine, baybe related to the internal sd I just mentioned.
There is a partition named and used as Internal Storage ...just take your SDCard out and you'll still have storage space
Bashing away at my HTC Desire C
that is true it does have a small storage
but just wanted to report that this recovery is giving a warning on first start
no file_contexts
and the cwm log is giving info
like
I: checking for extended command...
I: skipping execution of extended command, file not found...
I: can't format unknown volume: /external_sd
what is this about does anyone know, this cwm works great though
got no problems with it so far, quite like it, it seems a little faster to backup and restore
maybe just placebo, but gonna stay with it on phone see how it runs.
edit: also if select choose zip from internal sdcard
E: can't mount /emmc/
and key test, works but unable to go back
i just now tried it on my phone
hi i just flashed it on my phone .
i previously had Mujeni V5 as recomended i tried install zip from sd card but it did not work so i did adb thing with
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and it worked .
i did not try or notice insternal storaged cards thing but when i come across it then ill post regarding it.
Thanks yajnab, it works perfectly on my phone! Now backup is completed correctly.

... but today I tried to cancel dalvik cache and it wasn't possible (error mounting file system, and something more like this). I tried to mount manually and still nothing. Am I alone?

However, on the last line of the main screen of CWM it's written: "Warning: No file_contexts". How can I save a log on memory card? If you mean recovery.log you can see it here: http://pastebin.com/BgCzWerx
Selecting "show log" on cwm I can read:
-----
init.svc.choice_fn=stopped
init.svc.dmesg=stopped
init.svc.detect_key=running
init.svc.rmt_storage=running
init.svc.adbd=restarting
service.adb.root=1
ro.9kramdump=0
init.svc.recovery=running
I:Checking for extendedcommand...
I:Skipping execution of extendedcommand, file not found...
I:Can't format unknown volume: /external_sd/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM manager to report the issue
-----
Is it normal I can change the option on the screen only by keys and not touching the screen?
thanks

I dunnno why this problem is arising . You cant use ROM manager and its not touch
Nice. Works fine, no bugs or anything. But I think no one would use it as we already have TWRP with full-touch and more features But still, GREAT WORK DUDE!

Lended Phone to Friend; He Decided to "Encrypt his phone for "Google for Work"".

Lended Phone to Friend; He Decided to "Encrypt his phone for "Google for Work"".
He Decided he wanted to encrypt the phone so he could use Google for work.
Huge Mistake letting him do that, he ended up bricking the thing and now I've got a major issue.
I Cant write, mount, or read the /system Partition in TWRP no matter WHAT I do.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I Can get onto the system where it says "Enter your pattern to decrypt" He puts the correct one in and then it tells him "Decrypt unsuccessful"
When I try to wipe /system in wipe mode, it says Error: Cannot mount /system repeatedly.
Please put your input on the matter Thanks
(I still have 1 L90 that works, but both have Download mode wiped because I accidentally deleted it while unlocking boot loader to discover its already unlocked.
(Will post pictures later)
Bro, go to recovery, plug your device on USB, then from win open adb and type separate one by one in command prompt:
adb shell
recovery –wipe_data –set_filesystem_encryption=off
Nada

Also, Recovery Wont load anymore and now is "Blinking" Teamwin over and over. GG
And your system won't boot up? Nonsense, you did not wipe recovery with this command to make clear.

Just to be clear, I'm was on Cyandogen Mod and he decided to Encrypt and I cant get past there.
And Recovery cant mount /system.
When you prompted to enter pasword to decrypt you enter: default_password?
Now, I cant mount /data

Lets Recap, I ran your command and Now I can mount /system Great!
but Now I cant mount /data.
What would I do to fix that?
Also, How do you update TWRP from Recovery? (I'm an idiot lol)

If you can go into recovery, simple factory reset, your data must be wiped and clean install ROM, gapps, etc...
Have option to flash ZIP or IMAGE from recovery, select flash image, then flash TWRP.
You turn off encryption with my command: recovery –wipe_data –set_filesystem_encryption=off?
Tell other user for that, this will be useful.
Regards

Yes, I Issued your command and Now I cannot mount /data in TWRP and therefore cannot wipe it.
I will attempt to update TWRP, but as I said, without /data access I cannot do anything on any rom I install.
You do not mount data to flash, please unmount all partition, then wipe system, data, dalvik ART, cache and optionally internal card.
Ok This is going to be a mouthful, but this is how i fixed it.
I Tried many methods, but the one that worked was this:
So, You know how the D415's boot loader is unlocked by default?
What I did was Boot into TWRP, And used ADB through it
Then Through ADB, Pushed the IAF.img of the original download mode, ( I Wiped it accidentally, thinking I had to.) and then wrote the IAF to the Download mode to restore the Download Modes Official Function, To restore the phone to factory.
Then I Just used the LG Software Update Tool to re-flash to stock, and then uh oh, the encryption screen again.
This is the stupid part, So Apparently LG Stock Recovery was able to remove the encryption through a wipe and like magic took me to the setup screen. (No Encryption password request).
Then I Proceeded to root using LG root-script and used TWRP Manager to reinstall TWRP 3.0.2.0 Bam!
Then as a test (I Didn't want to bother downloading CM13) Flashed it with Orion OS and Mini Gapps.
And like Magic, it was all new again.
Lots of threads were used to figure this out especially the re-writing of the IAF image (I had no idea how to write it to the original IAF partition.
Thanks who ever decided to post about how to reinstall the original IAF file.
So, If your (Insert relation here) decides to encrypt your phone and then proceeds to unencrypt it and then brick it, your not in trouble after all!
