Verizon software update wants to update from froyo to gingerbread on my gtab, will the root survive and will verizon b able to see the root? If so, can i disable update, it reminds me every 30 mins.
You will lose your root. I don't think vzw can see that you are rooted. I had no problems with my update with my rooted tab. Too get root back you have flash a pre-rooted rom. Right now I'm using "Galaxy Cuded" from the dev section, very stable.

I too am running the ROM from the Dev section. It comes pre-rooted, thank goodness. Haven't had any issues with it so far either. Very stable.

stock froyo is not rooted, theres many ways to do it search the forums. Or you can load up COgnitions Rom that is rooted. Go to android dev for the thread on he's rom.
any1 have any luck rooting their D1 running the new FRG83D OTA from Motorola?
Z4root and super one click havent worked for me..
thanks for your time...
EDIT: i cant post the link here put there is a page on droid-life.com titled "root droid 1- regardless of os version" the instructions there worked for me.
Did you get the ota link when you updated?

is there a version of this that we can apply without loosing root?
just want a stock version w/ root
I am at android version 2.2 build FRG22D rooted
and just want to get the FRG83D update
similar to what Pete does
http://www.peteralfonso.com/p/downloads.html
after looking at the update list I would only be interested in the new twitter app, new gmail app, and news/weather widget. It seems it might just be easier to find these apk's individually and install on FRG22D rather than deal with the upgrade.
Unless there's something else worthwhile in the upgrade that I'm missing...
I didn't notice anything different after upgrading.

Honestly...I still do it the old fashioned way, and it hasn't served me wrong.
Good old RSD Lite lol.
RSDLite still works.
I know that for the X, z4 still works too. I'd imagine it does the D1 too.
Nope, z4root doesn't work anymore on D1

Did you use the small FRG83D-from-FRG22D file (under the OTA section) or the full FRG83 DeOdexed?
Or is that smaller file just what Verizon sent out?
I successfully rooted my Droid1 using SuperOneClick tonight.Downloaded it from XDA tonight. It reverts back to frg83.I am a complete dummy but the instructions were simple.

ok, not knowing what was added in Peter's build, I used a rooted stock build posted by metiCkOne (link below) that included busybox and superuser.
I didn't even wipe data, updated on my rooted FRG22D with SPRecovery.
After that I just re-installed my preferred kernel update to get a higher overclock setting.

hi,i used the latest download from peteralfonso.com website -its for stock roms -a star is beside it to let you know its the latest version....just click on deodexed(i used this version*)-it will download to rom manager-flash using clockwork mod recovery-this worked for me -i was rooted on 2.2 before i flashed this and didn't lose root afterwards....hope i answered your question,i'm still new at using android os(coming from apple os)
ps:use your xda app on your android phone-much easier to apply downloads
To everybody trying to root just factory reset and then use a one click rooting method
No ever since i got froyo second update FRF22 i never being able to get 1 click root solution.

Not only does z4 not work on the new OTA 2.2.1, downloading apk files does not work for me as well. Anyone else have major issues with the 2.2.1?
superone on D1 2.2.1
followed the instructions: downloaded and opened on windows, hit run root, 10" later I was on the net on my ipad, laptop, and wii. awesome>
I did a search and was unable to find information on flashing stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 for the Verizon Galaxy Tab 7 (SCH-I800). Is this possible, and with root?
I would love to get a more stable build onto this machine. It crashes alot. also something more responsive would be great too Now that its out for the Sprint Vs. Does that mean its possible to get it on ours?
There hasn't been an official release of Gingerbread for the Samsung Galaxy Tab SCI-I800 (Verizon model). I'm getting very, very impatient and annoyed by it too, especially not that the Sprint model (VERY similar to ours) has already gotten that upgrade and we're still waiting without any details about when to expect it to come to us. VERY annoyed.
Flash the Sprint version that's rooted on here.
Hell, how can one root first?
I have tried NUMEROUS methods at rooting my Galaxy Tab, just to try and get the bloatware off of my device in hopes at making it work smoother, but that didn't work. Anyone, ANYONE, know a fool proof method at rooting the VZW Galaxy Tab 7? z4root, gingerbreak, etc, all didn't work. Ended up having to reset my device just to correct most major issues that the failed root attempts created.

Just rerooted mine (my original z4root stopped working after the last update) and after combing through who knows how many posts and methods, I got it to work with version 1.7 of superoneclick. For some reason 1.9 would get stuck in the middle, but 1.7 had no problem. Good luck.
Can we really just flash the Sprint version? That won't break anything?
Thanks!
It will not connect to 3G but it works fine on wifi. I have been running it for 3 weeks.
Awesome... I don't use 3G anyhow. Thanks a bunch!
I got my tab finally rooted. Now need to have fun!

There's also a leaked VZW stock rooted 2.3.4 in the dev section...
That stock vzw rom... Is it stable?
Sent from my rooted SCH-I800 Galaxy Tab
Why would a stock rom not be stable? Besides the thread is several pages long with folks posting their experiences, me included.
It is very stable, with all the bloat and everything. Suggest BTL Confidence & Paranoia v01 if you dont want any of the bloat. Stable with some minor bugs.
yes the BTL confidence and paranoia is a great rom, I have the sch-i800 verizon model too.
looks like i missed the boat on that one.

Use SuperOneClick.
Make sure you have USB debugging on.
Super no click for GB
Unfortunatly I have tried super 1 click 2.3.3 (with debug on and sd card out) and it dosen't work on the I800 2.3.5
I am going to try cubed 3.
all this just so i can use a six axis controller....

HOW!!!!!!?????????
I was just told by a friend of mine who's father works for Samsung that the OTA coming out for our phone has a root proof kernel. He said stay away. . I don't know why Samsung would do that . I'm waiting to find out more.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA
This should be no problem as you can just flash a Stock kernel. Or the newer kernels can be made to remove this likely. Either way, since we can flash kernels, we should be ok.
its true... look at the tmobile forum.. alot of members took this update and can no longer root..
# Samsung Rooting Restriction Feature
#
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_ROOTING=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_SETUID=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_FORK=y
CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_ROOTING_LOG=y
... im sure there will be a work around this..

Ya I don't know If it has to do with sprint. They've been talking about this for a while over in the original international s4 forum.
a permanent solution is being worked on, til its available if you want root you will have newest rom and stock kernel. thats all (until kernel source is released )
I already OTA updated. Sprint better not pull any shenanigans
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Just a heads up from the tmobile forum, newest firmware + stock kernel = wifi issues and app issues. newest firmware + newest kernel = no root. Obviously this is just tmobile users reporting, but I would have to think it would be similar for us. If you don't like the update, about 95% sure you can odin back to stock firmware without any issue. I personally will wait till source drops and a work around is in place.
On a brighter note, most/all people who have taken the plunge and updated, are reporting performance increases in transitions. Here's to hoping the occasional stutter/lag is gone!
I'm going to put this here as I did in the 2 other ota threads.. would someone please grab a log of the link (or grab the download prior to try to install) if they are getting propmted so we can get this to look at?
A bunch of people talking about it, no one trying to get it?
Update zip posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2269426
This update got rid of my red hue on black backgrounds.
However, it added the purple blur issue
It also made it a lot smoother. I don't have to mess with my developer animation settings anymore
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
With the new update and Samsung new feature to prevent root S4 needs a new "Root Keeper Kernel" with those new features disabled.
Edit:
It's Already done.

Looks like there's still work to do to fix the notification that it's rooted. I'll wait a few days before flashing and rooting like crazy.
I have tried my best to search the forums for this so if I missed it being mentioned somewhere I do apologize. I'm trying to be extra careful because the only reason I even have a Bionic is because my friend gave me her used one after my Rezound died and I don't want to lose another phone. Basically, when she had it she updated it to ICS using a leaked ota because of data connection issues. It fixed the issues, but now the phone can't be updated using the official JB OTA. My question is can the ota be flashed somehow. I don't need the phone to be rooted (my Rezound was so if I absolutely have to I can do it), I would prefer just to be on stock 4.1.2. I'm including a screen shot so everyone can see what version I am running. I've only had the phone a day so I appreciate the info. I'm not a develeoper, but I can certainly flash ROM's no problem.
Thanks in advance everyone!
