changing from H to 3G - LG Optimus Black

hey guys
i been using this lg p970h for some days, and its weird cause it looks like suddenly losing data connection, the signal indicator is empty and is unable to join to any network.
The phone was locked to telcel so i buyed an imei code and now is working with iusacell gsm, but sometimes it just lost the signal and get APN ibox.tim.it that looks from italy. So i need to reset the phone and wait to check if it hooks with the right network.
Im using nova rom, do you think it could be related with the rom? or maybe a hardware problem?

I don't think Nova could be causing problem...its a time tested stable rom.
However, try factory reset once again, put your network on automatic selection and put in correct APN, it should solve the problem.
Btw, your putting the thread title, H from 3G, foes it signify anything with your problem? I mean its quite normal when your phone switched between HSDPA to HUSPA it changes ..

weird but it looks like the language has some relation.
I was using English United States, sometimes the phone lose the signal and after a reset it appear with italian language and with the APN for a italian provider, so i tried using Spanish Mexico, let see if it has some relation... may be the phone set the country using the language and use apn in relation to that ... weird.. weird..

[Q] Milestone is loosing signal - hardware or software error?

Yesterday my Milestone dropped the network and wrote "Only emergency calls". On other phones there was maximum signal. After a while the phone logged in to the network, but lost the signal again. I thought something is with the ROM, so I made a factory reset but didn't help. I flashed the correct SBF file (first Éclair, then Froyo), but didn't help. I restored an earlier MOD I used without any problem but didn't work.
I always used the German baseband files with other MODs because my Milestone is German.
The problem is that if I make anything (I mean anything related to the data connection), the GSM signal disappears, sometimes data connection remain with no problem, sometimes it is lost, too, but sometimes it has GSM signal with only EDGE network. If I do nothing, just turn off the screen and do nothing, everything goes back to normal, and the phone has normal data connection with GSM signal, I can make or receive phone calls.
I put in another SIM but the issue was the same.
Can I try something related to software and didn't try yet or this is a hardware failure? And if so, what is the price of a GSM module? I couldn't find it.
MOD: It seems that only the 3G is not working (sometimes HSPA does while 3G phone connection don't), with 2G there isn't any problem.
dial *#*#4636#*#*
Under phone info, try a different network type.
It probably defaults to GSM (auto). It does on mine anyway and it's fine.
But maybe WCDMA preferred, GSM only, or WCDMA only will work better.
It depends on which is screwing up... the WCDMA or the GSM
edit: had the dialpad code wrong... again.. geez

Are you sure you have applied the correct baseband?
I would tell to re-apply thru AOR.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App
You could go to settings, wireless and networks and somewhere there there is use only 2g networks and if that is checked, you could try to uncheck it. That is what happened to me before on the froyo mod. Also, you could try turning on airplane mode, then turn it off. Good luck
I always used the German baseband, tried to switch 2G/3G many times, applied the baseband trough OR, applied the RTEU baseband, re-flashed the ROM, the original Éclair, the Froyo, again and again but nothing helped. I gave up I decided to go to the service. Before that on a forum somebody asked something, I gave an answer but I was not 100% sure about it, so I flashed the RTEU Froyo.
And it worked. The 3G, HSPA, 2G, EDGE, phone functions all are working now. My phone is truly German, it has QWERTZ keyboard and the original ROM was the ROM from Deutsche Vodafone (tried that one before, too), it has the logo on its box, and the German baseband files always worked. I don't know what just happened, it's simply working now. Why now... don't know.

[Q] S III mini network issue

Hi guys,
I own an i8190, baseband : I8190XXALJL and I encounter frequent network outage.
Although the signal strenght indicator shows 3-4 bars, I cannot be called, cannot call and data is not being fetched.
On battery usage app, the network is most of the time "green".
On any other phone around me (blackberries, iphones, SGS II and III), and on the same network the problem does not reproduce.
If I turn the phone to airplane mode, and then back on, I am able to call, send mails so on and so forth.
Does any of you have the same problem ?
If any of you updated to I8190XXALL2, is this problem still persisting ?
Should I send it to the service ?
I'm currently running the ALL2 baseband, but previously had both the ALJL and the ALK6 ones and didn't encounter any such issue...
Before sending it back you could try with a different SIM card, maybe yours is acting up (it sometimes happens, especially with old SIMs).
Seeing how nobody complained of a similar issue though, I don't think that changing your baseband will have an impact, but if you'd like to give it a try you can download original firmwares (that contain the baseband) from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/. In order to install them, just follow the steps in the root thread.
Will do so. I'm going to pit-stop my SIM card @ Vodafone and let you know about it.
It's strange that this happens only deep inside buildings (eg. offices, malls, etc..).
When this happens, usually the data activity indicator disappears OR the S3 mini is using 3G frequencies (not H, not G, but 3G)
Just changed my sim card and the issue still persists...
It's driving me nuts. My feeling is that the S3 mini doesn't lock on a network cell when 2 are available with similar coverage.
Will upgrade to the latest build and let you know about it :banghead:

And now the handset runs XXALL2 from vodafone uk.
I'm curious if the phone will have that network issue furthermore.
Happy Holidays!!

So far there's no difference. Where I live the network coverage is pretty bad, but it doesn't "disconnect in the background".
Only at the office I can test it out for sure or inside massive buildings.
ci6i, go ahead and update; install kies (for drivers only ), get odin3 1.87 and flash it with XALL2 from samfirmware.
Lately I see there is XALL3 available for some asian countries.
I still think that my BlackBerry 9810 is a tank. unfortunately vodafone romania doesn't sync emails two ways via BIS so... :crying: I had to get back to samsungs...
Well, i understand to lose signal if network coverage is bad, but my phone gets "network stuck" in the middle of town. I noticed this few times: at job, the phone stands on the table near me, and i receive sms about missed calls (i have voice calls diverted to voice mail when unreachable). If i try to call or browse the net at this moment, it's impossible until i set airplane mode on then off. All this time, the phone shows full network signal and HSPA data connection.
I'll try to change the firmware after hollidays.
As mentioned above, try to change firmwares (to XXALL2), I've also noticed some network drops when I'm at home (however this is expected in my case), but when I installed this firmware, I noticed some signal gain (full on 2G and +1-2bars on 3G signal).
Hi again.
The same issue even on xall2
Just happened again today in a crowded place.
It goes to "3G" from "H" and then it's gone off the network.
Will try with XALL3 although there is a small improvement concerning "sticking to the network carrier". It seems it'a hard job to get a call when in coverage area...
If still no success, I'll loose my patience with this Sammy...
See ya!

You get SMS because they use a dedicated network bandwidth for this technology and apparently the S3 mini does not loose connection on this communixation channel.
It appears that S3 mini is dropping voice and data, but not sms and CB (cell broadcast).

LJL version. No drops. Sometimes when i am on edge of 3G coverage area

Hi, i also have the problem with vodafone Romania. I can't place calls or use data connection. After reboot everything is ok. I tried to switch to Airplane mode and back, but no results.
Same problem over here

Hi bogdangr,
I have the same problem with my SIII mini. From time to time, after working normally, it loses the H or 3G symbol and shows about two or three signal bars, but if I try to make a call or receive one the operation fails miserably. The airplane mode trick doesn't work for me, and I have to reboot the phone to get it working again.
I've updated to the latest official firmware, but the problem is still there. Have you found a solution for this or anybody has more ideas of things to try?
Thanks you all,
MFC
I'm on VF RO, too.
Crappy phone, what can I say.
If it can't follow a network where there is sufficient coverage...

Hi Miguel,
The only workaround for this issue (at least for me) is to keep it in GSM mode (no "AUTO mode", no "WCDMA only").
So the crappy phone won't have to switch frequencies and I can get phone calls (I start considering a luck when the phone rings...)
I'm on 4.1.2 now baseband I8190DXALL3 (latest on samfirmware) and still the same.
You just don't want to know how's everything downloading limted to GPRS
BR,
Bogdan
Does anyone know what's that *# code that enables service / engineering mode ?
I want to select on which network frequencies is the phone allowed to work.
I want to disable 3G mode and leave GPRS, EDGE, and HS(D)PA only.
The reason is that when the issue appears, S3 mini switches from "H to 3G" and "G to 3G" and then it's gone;
Although there are moments when it can fetch data with network on 3G coverage without problems...
The code is *#*#info#*#* but it doesn't work .
I don't think it's a good ideea to disable those settings. Maybe it's a temporarily problem and i know Vodafone is testing/launching 4G coverage.
For me, this network issue is happening once in a week. How often do you lose phone signal ?

I found out the service code but the RF setup is not "sufforted".
Vodafone has implemeted already 4G in selected areas but it's not about that. On blackberry, iphone and nokia this is not happening.
As a frequency... 3-5 times a day while I'm at the office.

I'm using it with Orange Spain. I will try using the phone this weekend with another operator to find out if the problem is operator related.

Can't connect to any freaking mobile network on cm based roms?

Hi guys,
I'm having some serious trouble with my phone not willing to connect to any mobile network at all it just simply says can't connect to this network right now. try again later and after 10 sec it goes into roaming mode :\ this only happens to me when i'm on a custom rom like MIUI, cyanogenmod, AOKP: all have these problems
maybe some important info:
carrier: telenet (in belgium running with a micro-sim)
phone type: C5303
working in stock rom with exact same APN settings!
I can make phone calls and send messages just fine
Someone who can shed some light on this occasion?
thanks,
noahvt
Is it a "virtual" provider? If yes ROAMING is normal..

I don't know exactly but i do know that on miui on my old phone i saw that it said connected to Mobistar (appearently my carrier "telenet" and the carrier "mobistar are using the same exact network!)
EDIT: i found this on the internet Telenet Mobile is a MVNO that uses the network of Mobistar
so the hole roaming thing is normal then? won't it use more data or waste more money? i really just wanna have 3G or EDGE on the top like i used to have on stock lol it's a bit confusing having roaming at the top
A network using another ones network is called a virtual provider. Let me explain..
In Holland we have KPN, Tmobile and Vodafone. These three are the biggest one here. We also have Telfort, HI, Hollandsnieuwe and Simyo (or Simpel). These providers are called "Virtual" because they dont have their own antennas. They use the one from KPN (most of them) because this is the biggest provider in Holland at the moment.
The issue you describe sound very familiair. In the Galaxy S + section I've read about this issue and some users fixed this with turning ROAMING on. I did not encounter any issues like this on my Galaxy S+ at that time because im on Vodafone.
Perhaps this will be the solution for you? It also could be a CyanogenMod bug but I have no idea

YAY i got the normal symbols back!!! :: by changing this spn-conf with this one: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s...AGgdPfjLR9knQqvVECx_brcvkPoFkEccIHEAJIar7-lUA
and the enabling data network!
FOR ANYONE HAVING THIS ISSUES WITH MVNO'S USE THAT SPN-CONF.XML!!!!!
The R symbol is normal. It is cool that you changed it but still the R was normal..
Nice work tho
Mine is having throttled speeds, at only 25 Mbps maximum over both cellular network (LTE) and WiFi based on both the CM10.2 & PacMan ROM (Android 4.3.1). Can anyone explain why? Download speed over WiFi is normally over 40 Mbps for stock 2.254 firmware.

[Q] Data/signal issue

Hi guys, this is my fist thread but I've been reading this forum for... I don't know, maybe 2 years.
Well, I have an issue that I can't resolve. I have to reset my phone a lot of times until "catch" the signal and the data connection. And sometimes the phone have signal but doesn't have data connection and the apn disappear...
The problem is presented as follows:
- Reboot my phone: no signal and the network operator is "UNKNOWN|MOVISTAR" (movistar is the brand the f*cking company). This is the most common.
- Reboot my phone: signal and the network operator is "MOVISTAR|MOVISTAR", I can receive and send messages and I can do calls too but the phone doesn't have data connection and the apn configuration is blank and I can't add any apn configuration because this no save any change.
- Reboot my phone: signal and data connection works fine, the network operator is "MOVISTAR", the apn configuration is right, I can change and save any change. This is the less common =S
I've tried:
- baseband V10A/B/H. V20A/B
- a lots of differents rils
- a lots of roms (just works fine with JB roms and stock)
- 2g and 3g
Well... that's my problem and I can't resolve it... Sometimes I want change my phone because this is a f*cking sh*t.
Sorry for my english. If you dont understand something, please, let me know.
thx so much!!
Bye.
Maybe the problem is at your provider.

Hi mate, I think the solution for the problem is very easy - take the second sim card!!!
Why: here in Europe not every operator has the same frequency for their mobile data transfers. That means, when you have a sim from a provider with has only 2G/3G and you have configured your phone to WCDMA, the phone is searching all the time for this frequence and does not find it. Fact is, the battery sucks continuously.
So, when you are using the other sim which supports WCDMA, the phone finds it instantly and the battery does not suck futhermore. That´s it.
Change the sim. Greets.

I checked with frequencies its the same as my second sim, really dissapointed about this
draining fast on WCDMA mode its cause your area having weak signal for WCDMA of your provider, i have same problem with you, some providers in my country having weak signal for WCDMA mode only at my home area. Your phone will try to search again and again to get stable signal, that action causing the phone working hard and use more the battery power.. So maybe the best choice for you is use the second provider sim card or use the primary provider but running on 2G mode to get stable signal.
no bro i'm having perfect signal on 2G and 3G both, does it has something to do with fast dormancy? i read around that disabling it will help me, can anyone tell me how to disable it?
