[Q] Please Hep with my battery problem :( - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hii guys i'm new to xda...
Sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong section.
I bought a xperia SP recently and i'm facing battery issues in it, i tried different softwares and everything nothing worked, finally i changed from WCDMA to 2G only now the battery is perfect, its draining my battery alot in WCDMA mode. I tried changing my sim with a different operator and now its working perfectly but i want to go back to my earlier operator where when i use that operator the battery sucks. Could anyone suggest me an solution. I'm from Sri Lanka

Hi mate, I think the solution for the problem is very easy - take the second sim card!!!
Why: here in Europe not every operator has the same frequency for their mobile data transfers. That means, when you have a sim from a provider with has only 2G/3G and you have configured your phone to WCDMA, the phone is searching all the time for this frequence and does not find it. Fact is, the battery sucks continuously.
So, when you are using the other sim which supports WCDMA, the phone finds it instantly and the battery does not suck futhermore. That´s it.
Change the sim. Greets.

I checked with frequencies its the same as my second sim, really dissapointed about this

draining fast on WCDMA mode its cause your area having weak signal for WCDMA of your provider, i have same problem with you, some providers in my country having weak signal for WCDMA mode only at my home area. Your phone will try to search again and again to get stable signal, that action causing the phone working hard and use more the battery power.. So maybe the best choice for you is use the second provider sim card or use the primary provider but running on 2G mode to get stable signal.

no bro i'm having perfect signal on 2G and 3G both, does it has something to do with fast dormancy? i read around that disabling it will help me, can anyone tell me how to disable it?

[Q] S III mini network issue

Hi guys,
I own an i8190, baseband : I8190XXALJL and I encounter frequent network outage.
Although the signal strenght indicator shows 3-4 bars, I cannot be called, cannot call and data is not being fetched.
On battery usage app, the network is most of the time "green".
On any other phone around me (blackberries, iphones, SGS II and III), and on the same network the problem does not reproduce.
If I turn the phone to airplane mode, and then back on, I am able to call, send mails so on and so forth.
Does any of you have the same problem ?
If any of you updated to I8190XXALL2, is this problem still persisting ?
Should I send it to the service ?
I'm currently running the ALL2 baseband, but previously had both the ALJL and the ALK6 ones and didn't encounter any such issue...
Before sending it back you could try with a different SIM card, maybe yours is acting up (it sometimes happens, especially with old SIMs).
Seeing how nobody complained of a similar issue though, I don't think that changing your baseband will have an impact, but if you'd like to give it a try you can download original firmwares (that contain the baseband) from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/. In order to install them, just follow the steps in the root thread.
Will do so. I'm going to pit-stop my SIM card @ Vodafone and let you know about it.
It's strange that this happens only deep inside buildings (eg. offices, malls, etc..).
When this happens, usually the data activity indicator disappears OR the S3 mini is using 3G frequencies (not H, not G, but 3G)
Just changed my sim card and the issue still persists...
It's driving me nuts. My feeling is that the S3 mini doesn't lock on a network cell when 2 are available with similar coverage.
Will upgrade to the latest build and let you know about it :banghead:

And now the handset runs XXALL2 from vodafone uk.
I'm curious if the phone will have that network issue furthermore.
Happy Holidays!!

So far there's no difference. Where I live the network coverage is pretty bad, but it doesn't "disconnect in the background".
Only at the office I can test it out for sure or inside massive buildings.
ci6i, go ahead and update; install kies (for drivers only ), get odin3 1.87 and flash it with XALL2 from samfirmware.
Lately I see there is XALL3 available for some asian countries.
I still think that my BlackBerry 9810 is a tank. unfortunately vodafone romania doesn't sync emails two ways via BIS so... :crying: I had to get back to samsungs...
Well, i understand to lose signal if network coverage is bad, but my phone gets "network stuck" in the middle of town. I noticed this few times: at job, the phone stands on the table near me, and i receive sms about missed calls (i have voice calls diverted to voice mail when unreachable). If i try to call or browse the net at this moment, it's impossible until i set airplane mode on then off. All this time, the phone shows full network signal and HSPA data connection.
I'll try to change the firmware after hollidays.
As mentioned above, try to change firmwares (to XXALL2), I've also noticed some network drops when I'm at home (however this is expected in my case), but when I installed this firmware, I noticed some signal gain (full on 2G and +1-2bars on 3G signal).
Hi again.
The same issue even on xall2
Just happened again today in a crowded place.
It goes to "3G" from "H" and then it's gone off the network.
Will try with XALL3 although there is a small improvement concerning "sticking to the network carrier". It seems it'a hard job to get a call when in coverage area...
If still no success, I'll loose my patience with this Sammy...
See ya!

You get SMS because they use a dedicated network bandwidth for this technology and apparently the S3 mini does not loose connection on this communixation channel.
It appears that S3 mini is dropping voice and data, but not sms and CB (cell broadcast).

LJL version. No drops. Sometimes when i am on edge of 3G coverage area

Hi, i also have the problem with vodafone Romania. I can't place calls or use data connection. After reboot everything is ok. I tried to switch to Airplane mode and back, but no results.
Same problem over here

Hi bogdangr,
I have the same problem with my SIII mini. From time to time, after working normally, it loses the H or 3G symbol and shows about two or three signal bars, but if I try to make a call or receive one the operation fails miserably. The airplane mode trick doesn't work for me, and I have to reboot the phone to get it working again.
I've updated to the latest official firmware, but the problem is still there. Have you found a solution for this or anybody has more ideas of things to try?
Thanks you all,
MFC
I'm on VF RO, too.
Crappy phone, what can I say.
If it can't follow a network where there is sufficient coverage...

Hi Miguel,
The only workaround for this issue (at least for me) is to keep it in GSM mode (no "AUTO mode", no "WCDMA only").
So the crappy phone won't have to switch frequencies and I can get phone calls (I start considering a luck when the phone rings...)
I'm on 4.1.2 now baseband I8190DXALL3 (latest on samfirmware) and still the same.
You just don't want to know how's everything downloading limted to GPRS
BR,
Bogdan
Does anyone know what's that *# code that enables service / engineering mode ?
I want to select on which network frequencies is the phone allowed to work.
I want to disable 3G mode and leave GPRS, EDGE, and HS(D)PA only.
The reason is that when the issue appears, S3 mini switches from "H to 3G" and "G to 3G" and then it's gone;
Although there are moments when it can fetch data with network on 3G coverage without problems...
The code is *#*#info#*#* but it doesn't work .
I don't think it's a good ideea to disable those settings. Maybe it's a temporarily problem and i know Vodafone is testing/launching 4G coverage.
For me, this network issue is happening once in a week. How often do you lose phone signal ?

I found out the service code but the RF setup is not "sufforted".
Vodafone has implemeted already 4G in selected areas but it's not about that. On blackberry, iphone and nokia this is not happening.
As a frequency... 3-5 times a day while I'm at the office.

I'm using it with Orange Spain. I will try using the phone this weekend with another operator to find out if the problem is operator related.

[Q] HTC S710E 3G Network problem

Hi,
I never test with 3G SM before with my phone.
I have changed my Vodafone plan to 3G and started using it.The SIM is working fine with 3G in my old mobile (Sony Ercsson).
When I put the SIM i my HTC it is not detecting 3G Network. If I choose GSM/WCDMA it is selecting the 2G Network and for WCDMA Only option
it is not showing any network.
Please note I am having the HTC mobile fro HTC Hongkong and now using the same in India.
Operator: Vodafone
Activity Performed:
Restart the phone and put off the battery multiple time
Factory Reset
Use another 3G SIM which is also workng in my old phone
Toggling between flight mode and WCDMA.
Results:
Just received the 3G network twice and it was sustained for 20 minutes and so.
Please note I am having good 3G Coverage in my locality and with my old phoe it always come full signal.
It happens some time
I have to disable / enable 3G to make it works.

[Q] 4G Issue

Hi
I have a Z1 brazilian 6943 and my carrier is Claro. As you probably know 4G in Brazil is not great, even 3G is not 100% reliable so I have question that so far no one was able to respond to me.
When I leave the LTE(preference) WCDMA/GSM active under networks and I have 4G signal everything is ok, but the problem is that 99% of the time is not ok, there is no data available. So I expect the phone understand that LTE is not available and uses the 3G network but this doen not happen, I have zero data availability and I have to change from LTE (preference) WCDMA/GSM to WCDMA(preference)/GSM to have data...
Any one of you has the same situation? if so is there any way our phone understands that there is no 4G and uses 3G instead I have to do it manually?
Regards
Renato
No one has this issue? Any reply will help a lot

That's exactly the problem i have as well in France, the Z1 handle very bad the 4G, if you can't have a decent 4G connection just don't select it in network preference because u'll have signal problem. It's fine only when i'l folly cover by 4G, if it's not the case, just disable it in the notification and all will be Ok.

Moto g xt1064 3G hardware problem! I guess!!

Hi all, i tried like everything turning the stock version of android like ten times, custom ROM and stock versions, but nothing 3g won't work, only E or G,,, and without turning wifi on, the bars remains orange all the time (like the network is being used)
and when i set the WCDMA only i end up without network on my phone!!
so that's definitely a hardware problem!!
so oo hhuuuu luck me!!
but, what's the fix for all this?? does anyone dissembled the device and knows where the hell is the 3g antenna or network antenna and how to order a new one and change that or fix that ??

The x1064 is the US model. There is a different global model for use outside the US. Europe uses different bands for the 3G than the US, so that might be the source of your problem.

[Q] Xperia Z randomly without 3G access (but with 2G access). Hardware or software?

Hi guys!
Around 2 months ago I started having some issues when connected to the 3G network. Most of the times, it didn't transfer at all and my network icon was with the "!" sign.. I was on PAC LP and I blamed it (or some software-related cause). However, if I marked "Use only 2G networks", it did work...
I flashed the phone yesterday. A clean, fresh and quite deep install (wipes, .228 FTF, new kernel, new ROM -eXistenZ-, etc etc). The surprise was that I still have it... If I try to connect to 3G networks I might get a couple of seconds of connection, but then it just disconnects and stays like that until I change back to 2G networks... Just in case I reflashed again, same procedure, and it's still there, even on stock .228...
I bought the phone 2 years ago (in Europe, that's why I can't use LTE here), and never had a problem like this. Of course, I'm at the same place with 3G coverage (other phones do work), I've already tried different APNs, providers, etc, so I hope not, but I'm starting to think this could be related to a hardware issue...
Does anyone have an idea? Is there any software part that is not changed during a flash and could be responsible? Or maybe how to rule out hardware or software issues? This happened while I was on PAC LP, stock .228 and eXistenZ...
Thanks in advance!
It could be many factors involved - one of them could be that the operator you are currently connected (ex. Vodafone, At&t) maybe changed all their antennas in your area from 3g to 4g, and that would result in your lack of connecting to 3g.
I once changed my operator because it had better offer and then I regretted it since the connectivity was worse with the second operator and would constantly switch from 2g to 3g to 4g, all this with a major impact on battery life.
It could be also hardware related, but I wouldn't bet on it. Try checking with another phone with the same sim in the same areas to get an idea what it might be.

Hi aaronkatrini.
Thanks for your answer! However, it's not my operator's fault:
- All other phones in the same area do work.
- Other operators (other SIM cards) in my phone have the same issue, so I guess it's related to my phone, software or hardware...
I haven't checked yet another phone with my SIM card, I could try that to rule completely out the SIM card/operator's fault.
Thanks again!
