usb support before ics - Motorola Droid 3

anyone have an idea for a workaround to get usb support sooner?

What kind of USB support were you thinking of and in what capacity? I believe most of the USB issues are worked out in the current CM7 build.

like usb for a controller?

HOST USB or USB HDMI Video Card ? Any way to use usb port to use usb devices ?

Usb port is it locked or there is possibility to use it like usb host ?
To manage copy pictures of a camera to phone without pc by usb adaptator.
Samsung talked about usb 2 hdmi cable and think if its real it use some usb video card supported by phone(because of physic material imcompatibily of hdmi nd usb)
May there is a way to dev a tool or hack to get it works...
Aah!! Finally somebody like minded!!
I had been scouring forums for something like this. USB OTG would be an excellent add on to this phone. If not OTG, at least host would be an excellent idea.
No idea whether the existing USB Host driver for Nexus one would work on this one.
The processor on SGS already supports USB Host (not sure about OTG though). This has been pointed out in their press release - w w w .samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/newsView.do?news_id=1043
I am just wondering - should we request Samsung themselves via mass petition to open up this feature on SGS?
some USB devices might be compatible, like the 100/1000 Mbps USB to RJ45 plugs
those same ones works in Windows Mobile it should work as well for Android, however a driver will be required.
mouse and keyboard support should work out of the box
external USB keys for storage, or even USB mass storage devices should work out of the box as well.
usb audio... hmm... not sure what else at the moment
Hi AllGamer
Thanks for the reply. So how exactly do we get this going on SGS?
I am much more interested in having USB HDD support on SGS (hopefully without an ext power source - am I asking for too much? ).
Are you suggesting that the N1 fix should work here also? Can somebody help us with a "How To" to enable this on SGS?
Cheers!!

you can plug in any USB mass storage devices (USB hard drives) and it should work.
However, you might not get enough power from the usb port, you'll still need need power cord for your external usb hard drive.
I know on my HTC windows phones works like that, it should be the same for Android.
I'll try that when i get a chance.
you just a need a USB female to a mini USB male cable
yep!! you are right about power!!! I am trying to get a cable - hopefully in couple of weeks should have this.
but I am wondering if all this would work without proper drivers in it. Would SGS have USB HDD drivers in it already?

I can see one problem, You will only be able to use Fat32 drives unless someone compiles NTFS / HFS+ into the kernel. Ext3/4 is already done so I don't see many problems. What I recommend you do is get some sort of adaptor for Female USB > Micro USB and test it out with a flash stick or you can hack one .
Yeah - I understand the difficulties of having NTFS support outside the MS world.
I didnt know that ext3/4 were already a part of the kernel!! Is this by default available in all Android kernels?
For USB Host cable - I am guessing that this one can be used - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250671106072 (same as what Sven used for N1 USB Host capabilities).
But I seriously doubt plug and play would work (that would be too much of an expectation! )
Does any body have that cable here, who can check out if SGS does actually work in USB Host/OTG mode?
Sven has try with a Galaxy another Host Driver

Hm what can we do with these files?
However, any news about this?
Maybe, we could ask some Galaxy S kernel developers about this.

[Q] USB On The Go (OTG)

I tried looking for details about USB OTG but unfortunately i didn't find much. If anyone would tell me is USB OTG a hardware+software feature or is it just a software feature?
Because what i am thinking is maybe if it is a software only feature someone could somehow develop such a software to enable USB OTG in our lovely OB!
Thank you for time and efforts.
It is definetly both: hard and software.
Normal usb hardware for mobiles only allow usb as a device. If the mobile has only such a port, no software can turn this port into usb host mode!
Hardware must enable the usb otg specification, wich allows usb in both mode: host and device.
But even if a mobile has the hardware usb otg port, maybe the software will only allow usb in device mode. Motorola atrix for example has the hardware feature but allow the otg mode only with tricks.
If lg p970 optimus black has the hardware possibilites for usb otg, i´m not sure. I personaly think that this is misssing, because you nearly find nothing about this in the internet.
greets sadran
I know it is in the wrong place but there is already a thread about it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445336
Actually there have been few threads but no developer had taken interest.
I stand corrected
Aprold said he will have a look if it is possible to be enabled.
Can a MOD unite the two threads and move them to appropriate section please?

[Q] HP Touchpad CM7/9 USB Audio Support

So I've been trying I find a solution for this, but it's been proving difficult. I have seen that on the nook forums, with a quick kernel mod and a tweak that allows USB audio control (i.e turn on switch for USB audio output), the guys over there have working digital USB audio output to an outboard DAC. Could anyone find out how to do this with cm7/cm9? Cm9 preferably. I assume we have basic USB host capability, since keyboards, etc. work, so its something specific to USB audio. This is definitely one of the only issues I need resolved on my TP.

This is very possible with USB host and OTG Y-cable adapters. When my cables and my computer come in the mail I will try tinkering with it. It'd be nice to see Jack audio running on here. Once July rolls around and HP releases most of their driver and kernel sources, development in all areas will skyrocket for our Touchpads.

Does the upstream port require power even if the device I'm using has its own power? My E17 has its own battery, but for some reason it isn't even recognized through the USB OTG cable. I can't even get USB audio to work on the WebOS side, which supposedly has full USB audio support via pulse audio now...

Hmm, I'm not sure. If it has it's own power supply, maybe you can try to mount it with a standard male microUSB to female USB. I'm about to see if I can get my external HDD with it's own power supply to mount to my phone and tablet. Will report back with results.

Yeah, no go on mount :/

Has there been anymore dev on this topic, including the current CM mods? This would make an interesting project for a carputer if the USB audio works.

[Q] Ethernet adapter support HTC One?

Does the HTC One support OTG ethernet adapters, especially with ASIX chipset? Did anyone try this?
Thank you for your answers.
zhlvf
Bump
I would also like to know if the HTC One supports this, will be testing once my adapters arrive but as with many things I suspect a hack will be required to enable the functionality, if it can be done at all.
Cheers,
H.
Yeah, I have an asix based USB adapter made by Airlive. Plug'n'play won't work. Anyway, I think a powered USB hub is required for this kind of experiment
Still no support for Ethernet on USB OTG ?
Still no solution for that?
Has anyone tried this:

Hello, any new developments on connecting HTC M7/M8 to the net via ethernet?

Usb otg not working

Phone happily charges through usb otg hub. No drives show up in xplore. How I get this to function correctly?
Also not functioning is my n64-usb adaptor.
I look forward to the day my xt894 (and an eventual, worthy, successor) can replace desktop computers for more tasks

It seems to be a common belief that the Droid 4 supports USB OTG. And it's fair, really, given how many sources say that it does.
It doesn't. It supports USB Host; it can serve as a device host, but can't actually supply power itself. You'll need a powered USB hub between your devices and the phone for it to work. On top of that, you'll need an OTG adapter that the phone wants to work with (apparently it's fairly picky and won't work with all of them). And, it may or may not work under Lollipop, if you're using that.
I'd expect an OTG hub to work, since one would assume it's just a miniaturized hub made to run off a microUSB charger, but apparently not. Probably wired differently than a USB hub.
Why does the phone support Host but not OTG? I would imagine because they wanted to encourage sales of their Lapdock, which itself has one or two USB ports.
