Does the HTC One support OTG ethernet adapters, especially with ASIX chipset? Did anyone try this?
Thank you for your answers.

Bump
I would also like to know if the HTC One supports this, will be testing once my adapters arrive but as with many things I suspect a hack will be required to enable the functionality, if it can be done at all.
Cheers,
H.
Yeah, I have an asix based USB adapter made by Airlive. Plug'n'play won't work. Anyway, I think a powered USB hub is required for this kind of experiment
Still no support for Ethernet on USB OTG ?
Still no solution for that?
Has anyone tried this:

any results for it??
OTG adapter fits, but the jump drive doesnt light up, indicating its not being powered, no recognition. but I am sure that there is an OTG chip on the device though. otherwise they would have a standard mini-a usb port.
where can i find an OTG adaptr??
Mine came with a set of usb adapters, for 20$ I can hook anything TO anything!!!
Although google is your best bet.
I also read that the chipset used in this PDA should have support for OTG USB, and that OTG is controlled by 1 pin on the USB connector, and that HTC might
have left it unconnected..
would be possible to connect it and have OTG functionalities?
Otherwise does it exist something like bluetooth hubs which transform usb devices into bluetooth?
I have a micro USB to USB adapter which works great with stick mount and storage on stock root but also have a Plugable USB 2.0 to RJ-45 adapter which I would like to be able and use to connect directly to a router/ modem for internet connection. Being in IT, this would be a very handy tool for me to test connections and cables and diagnose some network issues without needing a computer. On that note, it would also be really awesome to know if it is possible to connect a modem to the Nexus 7 and use it as a wireless router if I need a temporary fix.
I have done some searching on the Plugable USB adapter and from the sound of it, it is possible to add the drivers to a kernel, they do support android 3.2+, including one of Toshiba's android tablets. When I tried to connect my Nexus 7 to my router, both lights lit up on the adapter showing that there was some kind of connection being made between the devices, beyond that I could not get internet with wireless disabled.
If anybody has the time to look into something like this, I would really appreciate it! Even the same capability for my GNexus would be awesome.

Thanks for reading!
The OG Transformer had a thread dedicated to adding driver support for various USB Ethernet adapters. The problem is that it doesn't work with the majority of apps because wired Ethernet is not built into the OS. Unless you're comfortable doing all of your network tests via command line, it's going to be a while before you can do anything useful with a wired connection on Android.
would anyone tell me if any of the 2 will work with HTC Desire HD android revolution 7.0?
Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN Network RJ45 Adapter (ASIX AX88772 chipset)
or
Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter (ASIX AX88178 Chipset)
The 10/100 should work. Don't think Gigabit is compatible as far as I can tell.

thanks for your reply, how do you know this? you tried?
I saw someone get an USB-ethernet working in pictures and poosibly a video in another OTG thread, but I'd like to know if there was an app or special programming involved. About to go back to a dorm with 250 ppl using the wifi, and if I can plug my upcoming tablet or even my phone into the room's ethernet, it'd be huge. We do know it's supposed to be covered somehow in the OTG support of the device. -Ara

I'm using a rooted N7 with the stock kernel.
The Apple USB-to-Ethernet adapter works out of the box with an OTG cable, if you need a recommendation.
Cheers,
Kermee
P.S. It's a 10/100 adapter but using the new CIFS module for the stock kernel with the back-ported async support, I get on average 9.5MB/s transfers over SMB which is basically full 100Mbps.

So you just plug it in and it works? No set up or anything needed?
Hi,
does anybody have a Micro USB to Ethernet adapter that works?
i want to use the office lan network.
many of the ones i have seen on amazon have reviews of varying success but cant find a direct one for M8.
also some say that it has been disabled in some phones.

thanks.
Just use app ethernet from playstore, USB otg cable and a simple USB to ethernet adaptor
The plugable product in the link is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANY HTC

The plugable product in the link is NOT compatible with any HTC device. I'm looking for this as well and any info from someone who has used an Ethernet adapter would be greatly appreciated.
USB Host mode (usbtogo)
I don't own this device, but I the important question is: Which ROM do you use and does the kernel support USB Host mode (usbtogo)?
CM/Lineage ROMs should support this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ht...m-cyanogenmod-14-1-nightlies-htc-one-t3511673
I have an HTC One M8 and it has USB on the go with a micro port but the Plugable USB2-OTGE100 is not compatible with any HTC devices. So far I have not been able to make Ethernet work on my phone.

I've looked for an ap for this and they all require root.
Hi,
wow, this was 2 years ago
... but I am still interested as I have changed offices and the wifi is restricted.
only thing I managed to find out was as @SGH-i200 said that I woauld need to get the support built into the kernel.
i did buy an adpater that is said to work with kernel support.
I did some research but the source wasnt even available for the dual sim so that was a non starter.
on cyanogenmod 13 rom now and that still doesnt seem to have support.
any info on how to build a rom for mine would be appreciated though.
Does anyone know if there are any USB ethernet adapters that work with these units? I have a couple of Joying 3188 units. I would like to use ethernet if possible on them so I can connect them to a hotspot I have that has an ethernet hub.
I was just going to buy a couple of try them, but perhaps someone can save me the time?

Do a search on my nick and you will find a hub that works. Or go here: Gigabit USB 2.0 ethernet adapter works 100%. I've only tested the two rear USB ports. http://plugable.com/products/usb2-e1000

Nice! thanks for the confirmation. You've saved me some time and I appreciate it.
I'm looking to buy an Ethernet adapter for my s5e. Obviously it has to be USB-C.
I bought a BL10V hub with Ethernet, audio, video, SD, PD, and USB2&3 ports.
Everything works except the Ethernet! I am using LineageOS, but same on stock ROM. I have no other USB-C hosts to test it on. I've ordered a C to A adapter so I can try it on my laptop, but is that going to give reliable results, how backward compatable is it!?
Any idea how canI identify the ethernet chipset? Nothing in logcat (strange no even a mention of net) and "permission denied" for `lsusb`!! need root!? There was an App "USB Device Info" that I used to use on older OS but no updates and crashes now. I am using LineageOS, no Google.
For testing and to keep it simple I'd like to own a known working Ethernet only adapter, but cant find any known to be explicitly compatible with s5e or even really tablets, most is for Mac. Any suggestions?
I've got a RTL81?? USB micro Ethernet that I never managed to get working on another tablet. Why so difficult? :/ But that's another story!
That said, does it have to be USB-C? Might I be better off plugging a simple USB2.0 A Ethernet into the hub? I do need audio and video and PD etc at same time so I need some sort of hub. There doesnt seem to be many hubs with USB C inputs, am I better off keeping all my adapters as separate USB A devices and get a big C to A hub?
This is my first USB-C device and also no headphone audio jack! How do you lot manage all your inputs?
So which USB A devices would work? Is there a list of supported chipstes?
Thanks y'all
So my adapters arrived as well as another USB->Ethernet dongle. I've managed to find the USB device ID's but still none of them work on my tablets.
I have tablets:
* Samsung s5e (Official LineageOS - gts4lvwifi)
* Google Nexus 7 (Unofficial LineageOS - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-flo-deb-unofficial-lineageos-19-0-2022-01-07.3569067/)
And these are the adapters:
* ID 0fe6:9702 ICS Advent USB 2.0 10/100M Ethernet Adaptor
* ID 0fe6:9700 ICS Advent DM9601 Fast Ethernet Adapter
* ID 0bda:8152 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8152 Fast Ethernet Adapter
