Booo! No RGB LED access - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

So I downloaded Light Flow from the market. Coming from a blackberry, I was used to bebuzz so I could set the LED to blink different colors depending on what kind of alert/notifications I had waiting. But it seems like the HTC Vivid will blink green, or yellow. That's it. No pink, no blue, no cyan, just green or yellow. Which, to my dismay, doesn't do much for having different color notifications. I have way more than 2 social media apps.

I've seen it orange(charging) green(fully charged)...
never even noticed it for a notification... I'll pay attention.
But if it does Green, Orange(and as you say Yellow) that means it has more color range than you mention... maybe just a case of tapping into it once we root.

it has to have green, yellow, orange, and red
those are your main charging/notification colors.
once we root it there should be ways to combine it to have different colors.

maybe its orange and it looked yellow. Either way, I wanted pink

I've checked in /sys/class/leds, and we've only got a bi-color LED. I was unable to do 'color mixing' by setting the brightness of amber and green to 128. Only the first LED brightness I specified would light.
Not sure if it's a kernel or HW limitation.
I don't think I've ever seen my device do any other colors besides amber or green, so color mixing might be out of the question.
Also, LED Flow doesn't seem to work right on my device-- my LED seems to spontaneously light while the device screen is on (example: I pull down the notification bar and the LED blinks green many times).

That's pretty much a general trend with HTC. Most of their devices (at least every one I've every had) have only two colors: yellow/orange and green. I think the Dream/G1 was probably one of the few exceptions to that.

Only time I've seen other colors in recent time on an HTC device it had two separate leds. The Evo 3d I think had one on both sides of the speaker grill. Or maybe the evo or evo shift... I've gone through too many phones.

Yeah, HTC generally doesn't include any colors aside from green and orange (why do people say yellow.. it's CLEARLY not yellow).
My Aria only had two colors as well.

is ther any way to order um a after market led and take vivid apart and replace the led light?im not liken the limited colors either.

Even if you had hands and a soldering iron small enough, you'd still need a way to control the other colors, and I'm not just talking about an app.

wife wants to change the contacts colors - possible ?

My wife is unhappy with the white on black contacts colors of the SGS - she claims it bothers her eyes because on the high contrast.
Is there any way to change this ?
a theme perhaps ?
Yeah it bothers me too, but you have to understand that it is Samsung's intention using black background to save the battery. It is the beauty of AMOLED saving battery more on darker color.

[Q] What to do about AMOLED burn-in...

Any suggestions?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I have had my phone since November and use my screen 3-4 hours a day(or so says the battery stats) but on the lowest brightness and have not seen the slightest hint of burn in. Maybe if you use it in a dock where it is on all the time that would happen.

I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. That's my fault. I already have status bar burn-in. I just wanted to know if anything could be done about it.

Man... do I hear that!
First thought it to just make the screen completely white and leave it that way to see if it will reset ( I have no idea if it will work... Just a random thought for you to do at your own risk)
In the end you probably have no choice but to go to Samsung Service center (Someplace that can fix the screen). I figure that there is just no other way than replacing display module.
Not that this helps...but...I'll just put this here anyway.

I've been trying out "Burn-In Savior" from the Play Store and have had limited success with decreasing the contrast between the status bar and the rest of the screen. The thing is, on the Note, status bar burn-in isn't really burn-in at all. The status bar on the Note is black; which means that the majority of the pixels in the status bar region spend a great deal of time completely turned off. So, technically, the status bar doesn't get burned in at all. It's the rest of the screen that gets burned in.
So what I've been doing is using "Burn-In Savior" to rapidly age the blue subpixels in the status bar region. I'm only doing this to the blue subpixels because they're the only ones affected. They're also the ones with the shortest lifespan. The red and green subpixels show no signs of image retention whatsoever. So anyway, my plan is to rapidly age the blue subpixels in the status bar region with the hope that they'll catch up with the age of the blue subpixels throughout the rest of the display. I'll report back once I've got something to report.

Burn ins happen, well, not really that often as the internet might have you think. Most user have never experienced them so don't be scared. Also, most of them happened on Galaxy S generation devices - Galaxy Note's screen is manufactured differently and is supposed to have a lot better lifespan.
It is a problem - but nothing to be terrified of.

Yes. It looks a lot better now. Don't let the post scare you off though. I loved the Note's display so much that I ended up buying the Tab 7.7 for my tablet just because it has a Super AMOLED Plus screen. I'll never buy LCD again.

maybe a real solution to the problem?
ok, i have a suggestion.
the theory is, that the leds of the displays subpixels degrade faster, the brighter (higher current) they are driven.
in almost every case, the typical elements of the start screen or home screen burn into the screen.
in theory the solution would be to degrade all other subpixels in the same amount, cause you will not be able to repair them (reverse degradation).
so my method would be:
take a screenshot of the burnt in home screen with exactly the same icons and elements that got burnt in, simply invert the screenshots colors (with paint, gimp, photoshop or some photo editing apps) and display it for some hours/days (make sure the smartphone does not get switched off automatically) and magically the effect gets equalized perfectly more and more.
(for the clock it never will work perfectly, you would have to overlay the numbers from 0 to 9 manually)
in my opinion, this could really work, but i have not tested it! because i have an lcd screen. all at your own risk. if this works, give some feedback. maybe somebody would develop some software that inverts the colors automatically or is this already possible with some screen filters? i dont know.

That's an interesting suggestion. Interestingly I found this forum because I went to the VZW to check out the GS3 and immediately got bored of it and went to the Galaxy Nexus. What I noticed of it setting on in the home screen for the past 8 months is there is very noticeable burn in on light colored scenes of the top bar and icons at the bottom.
I was shocked and immediately came back and google'd AMOLED burn in, I didn't know it was an issue. I don't think I could buy a SAMOLED phone now after seeing that. I want the Incredible 4G anyway, I like how it's smaller with the red camera and still has a beast Snapdragon S4.

purple tinge on screen

when i reboot my note and it goes to the AT&T boot logo, i notice a purple tinge on the bottom half of the screen. anyone know any test i can run to test it further?
i have an issue with my vzw note 3 thats similar. its like a pink hue on the bottom half of the screen. i notice it when on a white or gray background. waiting for my replacement

not at all. explained the situation and said i didn't notice it until i finished setting up the phone and when i went onto the browser i noticed it and just called them up. they said it shouldn't be that way and they were gonna order me another replacement. getting it tomorrow from fedex. had the option to bring to the store and getting it replaced there but didnt want to deal with the reps in the store.so i had them order it for me over the phone.
I notice if the brightness is all the way down when scrolling white text on black I see a purple tint

I see it only at boot when the AT&T logo is up. It happens to only affect the bottom part where the animated gradient is.
I'd like to have more people teat this out. Maybe a good test would be to turn the boot animation upside down somehow, and then booting it up. It could just be some glitch with it running that animation or it could also be baked into the image.

I tested using Display Tester app. Used color chart #808080 at lowest setting number 1, in a pitch dark room. The lower quarter towards the home button showed to be slightly darker. Couldn't emulate this in any other color's. Seems normal.

Light leak problem

Does anyone is having light leak issues with your devices from the end of the bezel?

Looks like that's a "normal" problem:
http://youtu.be/1lAHbpc8fW4?t=7m35s
I don't think it's normal since i don't have any light bleeding, even under full brightness in a dark room.
Mine seems to be horrific at night in full brightness
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
To clarify, I don't see that anyone has mentioned that this bleeding seems to be present on the WHITE MODELS... Detroit Borg showed this, but then - again - he had the WHITE model.
Ask for replacement bro..
Only thing you can do..
I have a black one and don't seem to find this issue even in Full brightness, may the one you got has some gaps.
Did the light bleeding start after you performed the bend-test or before?
In my black version no issue, you can ser in Erika review in YouTube this issue in the white version
I had replaced 2 Moto Gs before I got a good working piece. One of them had this issue, get it replaced if it annoys you, not really that big of a deal, but hey, if it's irritating why not?

[Q] Static lines & bands on screen. Yes, please help.

Guys,
I've tried 3 different phones from Flipkart. The first one had the famous yellow tint issue which was down to a minimum in the next 2 devices that i tried so I guess it all depends on luck. But as luck would have it or OCD , I had new issues with them.
Both the replacement devices that I have tried so far have these 2 issues below:
1. Weird horizontal bands visible across the screen on light backgrounds (white/grey) most prominent on low brightness. They really annoy you when scrolling through your Twitter feed or any apps with a white background (Most on Lollipop!)
Best way to check these are in the default android dialogs of WiFi password or language choice.
2. I see static lines horizontal lines on the screen everytime the screen is touched and they disappear after 2 seconds of the touch. Again easiest way to check this would be to open the gallery and pull in the hamburger menu from the left. When touched to pull, mine shows prominent static/disturbance sort of ripples.
Can you guys check and tell me if these are common issues since both my replacement devices have these & I am really not upto trying another device after all the hassle.
Thanks.
I'll see the horizontal lines as well on light backgrounds, I just assumed it's a side affect of amoled.
Perhaps the lcd is defective?

Can confirm that my screen also has the issue #1. I always thought it was probably a large AMOLED screen issue. Never faced issue #2 though. I also got mine from flipkart.
Issue 1 is what bothers me the most. Scrolling on white backgrounds is annoying, you feel these bands are not moving & look prominent.
Even more worried since everything's going white in Lollipop.

Though I dont have a similar problem but I am pretty annoyed with my purchase. My first device was replaced since it developed screen-burn within few days of usage. Surprisingly, the second device has also developed screen-burn after 10 days of usage and the nav keys are permanently embossed on the screen which can be clearly seen on grey backgrounds.
The strangest part I found about both the devices was they were turned on right out of the box One click to the power button and the phone was already in the setup mode asking to select a language. White color reproduction is way off on this device and looks pale yellow instead of white I somehow feel that I should have stuck with my Nexus 5 instead of falling for this. At-least for now, I'm done with AMOLED's
So have you returned the Moto X?
Motorola seems to have major QC issues. Distorted speaker, yellow tint, weird lines and burn-in.
It's a great phone but the screen has major issues. I am on the fence now about trying a 4th replacement device but worried it'll have more issue.

They are not there all the time. Only on light backgrounds. Best way I can describe it is if you've ever seen a plasma TV that gets horizontal purplish lines going vertically from a color source on an all white background. The horizontal lines on my phone follow the dark letters/images as I scroll up and down.
And I actually RMA'd the phone today because of it.

I had the dark horizontal bands on my replacement device they sent for the back separating. They were very prominent on light backgrounds and very distracting. I chose to keep my original device because the screen is perfect on it. I didn't want to take chances with replacements beyond that. I took pictures and notified Motorola of the issue.

Oh, I've been pretty unlucky so far in that case, haven't got a screen without these bands. Well atleast there is hope.
But there's the same concern, will the replacement be better or worse than the one you have. In India, we have to hand over the device at the same time, so cannot compare the two devices.

So, I have not heard a thing from moto about my RMA label. On the site it said I'd get an email in 4 business hours, well all day and nothing. I'll have to call tomorrow I guess.
Well... Moto has no record of my RMA and I lost the RMA number because I took a screen shot and the pic didn't sync before I blew my current phone clean. They tried my IMEI and SN and contact info, it's like it never happened. They said they could try looking at the RMA number, but, I don't have it. No confirmation email either at the time of entering it.
So, I'm not going to bother again right now as others have said the replacements do the same. I got the two year warranty, so if the screen does eventually go dead, oh well.
What I will warn others of, is to WRITE DOWN the RMA number!
My first device was perfect - but I returned due to a scratch on the wood back. Second device is half yellow, half white tint with horizontal lines. It's like playing the lottery because the qc is still awful on amoled. I wouldn't mind if the full screen was yellow even but the half and half is terrible. Yellow can be fixed with color tweaks and wasn't all that bothersome anyway.
I have one dark line across the screen. I chatted in with them and I have to call them and ask for the REST department since mine was a custom one.

The bands across the screen bother a lot more than the static lines. Hope Lollipop comes soon so I can make a final decision.

You should try to capture it on a video clip, my lines are just barely visible in low light.
Film it and send it back for warranty with that video as proof. And post it here, I'm curious to what it looks like.
I'm pretty sure it's the LTE radio, because I can just barely make out the noise in my computer speakers when it's pinging the GSM tower.
Much like when old phones use 2G mode, but at a way faster rate and not as loud.
You might have gotten phones from a batch where they forgot EMI shielding or something like that.
