Can I root sgs without a computer? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I'm running stock 2.3.5 jvt on galaxy s but wanted too root it. Is there a way of doing it without a computer as I don't have access to one any time soon.
I remember using z4root when I had version 2.2 but I'm not sure if that will work with 2.3.5.
Thanks in advance

You can try the following gingerbread. Try to search and hope it works for latest firmware. I have tried this long time ago when I used JVK..

I jist bought this device and then discovered that is branded by vodafone. I'd like to upgrade it to stock froyo...are there particular informations i have to save or any particular procedure i have to follow? The phone is rooted and i have done a backup with titanium.

Here's the stock firmware. I can confirm it works perfect. Just follow the directions.

EA24 is 2.2 isn't it?
Yes, but you want it to be working again don't you... This will get you up and running again so you can then try to upgrade to 2.3.3 again. You might need to check your bootloaders aren't locked though. Not sure as I don't have a CDMA tab.
I put thw stock.rom back on and unrooted my tab and it updated ota to 2.3 gingerbread ..

Please help a Samsung newby!

I have just aquired an sgs i9000 (£259.95 from uk carephone warehouse) and am finding things a little different after using an htc desire for the last year.
After poking around the forum, i have managed to install I9000XXJVP 2.3.4 gingerbread using odin.
My question is, is it possible for me to now install speedmod-kernel-k15h-t12-300hz using odin to gain root access or have i misread the situation?
Sorry if this sounds a bit noobish but, if the above is correct, will i lose all of my apps and settings if doing so?
Advice would be much appreciated.
If you flash a kernel you won't loose any data.

Thanks for your reply.
So can i simply flash the kernel that i mentioned on my stock 2.3.4 or is there something else to do first and if yes, does this automatically give me root?
Sorry to be a noob, but i am new to these procedures and it all seems too simple to me!
It will give you root, yes.
But I'm not quite sure if this kernel fits for JVP...

speedmod's kernel won't automatically root your phone but you can root it once you've flashed it via the option in recovery mode.
but i agree you should check that it is compatible with JVH; i'm on KC1 so not too sure.
i mean JVP!
There should be a CF-Root version for JVP too, thod kernel is as stock as possible but gives you root.

Sure, if you want a clean customrom i recomend surface by sam. Its a lot of other nice roms, but i like that one
I,m on stock jvr rom for the time, only cfroot to remove som samsung stuff.
And it's really good

Thanks
Checking it out now!
If you want to go to the stock, go to the thread by ramad mentionned above and flash UGKG3, it's the latest and greatest stock bell firmware, as well as being rooted and deodexed. I'm running it now, works great.

Ok ill take a look at that too. How long have you been running that on your phone? Will I be able to update my phone in the future via kies if I wanted to?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You can update using kies, it's detected and read by the kies client. I've been running it for a few weeks, never a single problem. It has busybox 1.19 installed in the bin folder, but you can just install an older one to sbin or xbin if you really need to. I really recommend it, I had a lot of trouble trying to root the stock 2.2.3 on my own.

From Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread

Hello XDA members, I'm having a little problem here
I've been trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy S from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.4 but couldn't seem to find a good tutorial with good links. All the link i tried were even dead or removed. I tried flashing my phone with Clockwork but every time an app tries to gain root acces my phone just freezes and then the app force closes, I dont know why tho but the only option there is left is flashing it with Odin right? Or am I wrong, could someone link me to a good tutorial?
My phone:
GT-I9000 Froyo 2.2
I9000XXJPP
FROYO.XXJPO
Well?
