I posted this a while ago in Android Software and Hacking General, but no hits, so here it is again. Anybody interested in this? It was ripped from the leaked holiday prototype back in September.

I take it the Droid suffers from the same "signed bootloader" that the Milestone does?
Nope. That's one reason people are so upset about the Milestone situation—Motorola released the Droid with an unlocked bootloader, then turned around and locked things down on the Milestone.
Then why aren't there any ROMs in here? I see reference to roms like Bugless Beast but this development area is rather empty.
Mostly because the Droid/Milestone section here is brand new (2-3 weeks old), and most developers had found a "home" forum long before XDA added a Motorola section. A lot of people still don't even know there's a Droid section here.
You can get more info on Droid ROMs at places like Android Forums, Droid Forums, and AllDroid, where most devs have set up shop.
I used to come here all the time when I had a G1. I upgraded to a Droid and was disappointed that I couldn't come here for all the latest droid info. I just today figured I would come back and see if Froyo was up for the G1. HOLY COW there is a Droid forum on XDA!!! I can't believe I didn't hear about this earlier from one of the many android sites I visit.
I completely agree! This forum was INVALUABLE to me when I was using a G1 or my 32a Magic, but when I got the droid I had to suck it up and find other places to go.
Truth be told, there's a lot of immatureity in newer forums, but they got the job done.
Hopefully, some of the info will dribble back here, for everyone's sake, but wish me luck, I'm about to test out a generic froyo build for droid. Here's hoping it works!
PCD, the primary HTC distributor for most ACG (Associated Carrier Group) members, released 2.1 for their Hero devices not too long ago.
http://pcdphones.com/our-devices/support/adr6250update
Anyone willing to take a shot at it? It looks like the only Specific builds are for Bluegrass, Appalachian, and Cellcom. Open Mobile and Northwest Missouri use ACG 2.41.556.1, the rest are ACG 2.36.556.1. Since my device came with 2.36.556.1, I didn't have the advantage of rooting it with 1.5. Someone told me to try unrEVOked, but mine isn't Sprint.
short answer is your boned. Try looking on craigslist or ebay for a hero thats on 1.5. Since the VAST majority of cdma hero owners are sprint i wouldn't hold my breath for someone to crack the ACG version.
I might be able to talk tech into giving me a unit still on 1.5 as a 'replacement' (that is if the tech crew isn't getting paid to sit on their asses and RUU all day), but I don't think I'll invest in a phone until I see something that fits my definition of badass. Thanks for the help!
I think that your best bet is a variation of the ADB recovery hack
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:adb_in_recovery
or something that stems from s0be's attemps at rooting the alltel hero:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710483&highlight=alltel+hero
http://pat.erley.org/Phone/AlltelHero
It would be amazing if someone could get this to work. I tried every method I could find on both this 2.1 version and the original 1.6 that came on my phone with no luck. I'd be willing to help, but to be honest I don't know how much help I would be...haha..

My carrier is a PCD partner and I have the ACG build 2.36.556.1. My Hero came with 1.5 and I ran the RUU to 2.1 when it was released. I then searched probably every forum known to man, and finally found a successful root method here on XDA. Here is the link:

OH MY GOD YOU ARE THE HERO...TO MY HERO!!! It worked perfectly! Finally after months of searching/trying every possible rooting method.... Thank you!

According to HTC, Gingerbread upgrade for Incredible S will be on June for Singapore.
"Dear Alexander,
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, Incredible S may receive upgrade to Android 2.3 in June this year.
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again"
That's pretty slow, my opinion.
Better late than never? LOL
June....I hoping we got the update in April. I guess June is about right. These next 2 months the phone should be out there more in one variation or another in the Canada, the States and some more places overseas.
In my opinion to HTC's reply is earliest is June.

True ....
If it will be as with the Hero, then the update will be released at Christmas time, at best
This has alreayd been posted before:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014937
and I'll say what I said there again. Customer services just give a generic date, until HTC make an official announcement, they don't know anymore than we do. I have already seen a couple of leaks of the GB rom floating about (nothing that can be publicly released or flashed due to NDA's) but I can't see any reason for it not being sooner
When it launches as the droid incredible 2 here in the states it will have gingerbread pre-loaded, so there would be no excuse to not have the INCs on GB before that, verizon ad's a ton of crapware to the device and not to mention cdma vs. gsm, we should get gingerbread before the Dinc2, at least I hope so.
Read a site the other day that basically read as ics is available for update to the Vivid. Ill look for the site again and post the link. Any truth to this?

No truth to it. AT&T Software update is showing no updates available currently.

Should've been moved to the trash.
ICS isn't officially available for any device now. HTC says early 2012 for any of their devices.
I did read that our device will be avaialbe in early 2012 but nothing for a while i assume.
I would Guess Feb. or March if HTC stands by early 2012 release date.
yes it will get ICS
source:

I can see where the confusion came from just by reading what HTC's Statement was.
" We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich"
I can see how if that is out of context or someone doesn't know that ICS isn't even on the market yet would confuse people.
Like the topic says, in these hours on the net emerged a new image from Samsung Devs, discussing over some docs in the new update. What do you think?
In your opinion the date is tomorrow?
And how long before the mods close this 4.4.3 thread? Taking bets....I say 2 hours!

Hopefully tomorrow I gave you a thanks for being brave enough to start this thread, and the crap you will hafta put up with from this wretched forum
oh look, imagine that, another 4.4.3 rumor, and another 4.4.3 rumor thread..
Regardless, I have been disappointed in Google's lack of fixing things. I just wish we could get an official ETA window from Google.
I'm in before the lock. (thread closure)

These rumor threads never go well. Let's wait until there is something more official
