Your profile does say San Jose, and Carrier 'Sprint'.
So, Are you working with a Verizon Revolution? If so, it should work just fine with 4g in San Jose (Assuming California) as I have no issues when visiting family with my Revo.
Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> System Select -> Network Mode -> (SELECT)LTE/CDMA then reboot and you should be good.

Manual Network Selection

I am down in St. John in the USVI. There are three networks to select from. They are AT&T, CCT Boatphone, and bMobile. I can select the manual setting under the phone settings and it finds AT&T's network, connects, and then goes back to bMobile since I am on the east part of the island (and they are the strongest on this side). I did a quick search and bMobile uses 850 which I believe is the same band as AT&T.
Is there any way to manually force the phone to ignore bMobile and CCT Boatphone and just use AT&T in order to avoid the $3.49/minute roaming charge, or am I out of luck? Let me know the correct settings (if there are any) and any programs that I may need.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] N1 + Fido + 3G

Hi,
I just got my N1 and I'm very disappointed. As soon as I got it i updated to 2.2. For some reason I can't get 3G, it defaults to Edge. Does anyone know of a way to work around it so I can get my 3G speed?
Thanks In advance
Did you make sure your ordered the right N1? For Fido I would think you need the Rogers AT&T model as opposed to the T-Mobile one.
Also go into your dialer, type *#*#4636#*#*, go to phone information and loo at Set preferred network type and see what it says there but those things rarely get changed, if it doesn't say WCDMA preferred that'd be weird unless you wee already tinkering with the settings.
If it says GSM only than that would be your issue, set it to GSM Auto (PRL) which generally gives better battery than WCDMA preferred. Alternatively you can test setting it to WCDMA only which would force it into 3G mode but then if you don't pick up a 3G signal, you won't get anything at all which is what im betting will happen in your case.
Thanks.
It was set to WCDMA prefered. I set it to GSM auto like you suggested.
So are you saying there's nothing I can do to get 3G to work on this phone with Fido?
You can also try double checking the APN settings. Here is how:
1. Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
2. Press the Menu button > New APN
3. Name: set it to anything like "Fido 3G"
4. APN: internet.fido.ca
5. Usename: fido
6. Password: fido
7. APN Type: default
8. Leave everything else as is
9. Press Menu button > Save
10. Now from the list, tap the radio button next to this new APN created.
Give it couple minutes, and it should switch to 3G.
Let me know if that fixes it.
Already tried that and it didn't make a difference.
Thanks

That's it, most probably. Especially if you have the Developer N1 (you just got it, so if you got it new, you definitely got a wrong one).
In this case, you'll see no 3G.
I believe after the 2.2 update, The APN is automatically generated by the phone.

I can't really help you but as far as I know LTE is already unlocked and working on all international S4 Actives. Mine certainly worked perfectly out of the box - although I turned it off promptly because I have ****ty 4G coverage where I live so it was nothing but a battery drain for me.
Are you sure you have a 4G sim card, and that you are in an area where 4G has coverage?
If you go in under settings > connections > more networks > mobile networks > network mode don't you have the LTE option at the top?

i dont have the LTE option at the top no. i have:
- wcdma/gsm
- only wcdma
- only gsm

Well then I really have no idea - the only thing I can think of is that you might need to replace your sim card if your provider didn't already do so in advance of the 4G rollout. Hopefully someone with more information might step in here, but the international version is LTE capable out of the box. If you don't hear anything else I'd suggest to try and contact vodafone and get a clear answer from them first.
If you check the mobile networks in your area and don't see anything that supports LTE, you may just live in an area that doesn't have it yet (people get 4G and LTE somewhat mixed up - 4G is the overall identifier for a whole class of technologies with "4th generation cellular networks" basically while LTE is technically one of those technologies so, it should rightfully be classified as 4G in most respects.
Having said that, the only way I got my GS4A to function in LTE mode - meaning it actually shows LTE in the notification bar under the 4 with a small G and LTE underneath it - was to go into the service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and change the preferred network type to either LTE only or LTE/GSM auto (PRL). Once I did that the radio would reset and connect and then it would be in proper LTE mode. Doing a speedtest with the Speedtest.net app shows LTE as the connection whereas with my standard setting which is WCDMA Preferred (T-Mobile AWS) it'll just show as "4G."
I've had no luck making alterations in the Settings/Mobile Networks section, I have to change it in the service menu to get LTE functional. I don't use it because here in Vegas where I live (specifically my home location) the LTE mode gets me about 1-2 bars of signal (about 8-12Mbps) whereas the WCDMA Preferred setting pulls in 5 bars rock solid and 25-35Mbps.
Can't do screenshots or I'd add them, I'm running the pre-release MI2 ROM presently and that aspect is borked.

That would be because you're on the i537 from ATT, rather than the i9295 that this discussion is about. I checked google and vodafone holland does indeed use LTE on the right bands in its brand new rollout, so it isn't that - most likely it's his sim that needs replacing or it's just not activated on his account yet.

how to enable lte option?

how to enable lte option?
as my provider will lickly have my account activated for 4g before my phone is.
so this thry any way to enable the lte option i tried the hidden menu but when you try it it just resets back to wcdma(3g) and won't let me even scan for 4g so is they any way passed this.

If your provider enables lte for you and your device supports it, you're ready to go.
Settings > Wireless & networks > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Mines on 3 UK, but it's unbranded and unlocked.
3 have said that they will send out an ota update to enable 4G on their handsets.
There are a few cities already enabled, so if you can get somewhere that's already on, you might be able to test your handset.

Any way to set data to use LTE only (and not 2G/3G)?

I'm missing the option to set my device to 4G only. Under "Settings" -> "Network & internet" -> "Mobile network" -> "Preferred network type" I can switch only between "2G/3G/4G" and "2G/3G". I miss further options and especially to set it on "4G" or LTE only. Because my network provider is pretty bad at 3G but quite good at 4G, even when 3G signal is much stronger and 4G signal is weak.
I don't care if I can't take voice calls in this mode.
Edit: I see there are apps on the store to do this. Though would be great to do it within the ROM.

Telefonica (former E-Plus) in Germany. As far as I know, Voice over LTE doesn't work with them.

My old phone did, when LTE signal was weak (but still available), and I assume, any other phone will do so as well. But data was much more reliable within 4G than 3G, even when signal was weak.
I play a gps-based online multiplayer game and whenever someone complained about bad data, I hinted to set their phone to LTE only.

If u want to play game while having mobile data only mode activated then use option mobile data only in "game genie" while playing a game and option appears on either side of the phone to activate no calls no alerts option along with the one you are looking for.
Hope it helps.

Anyone knows the actual difference between 4G and 4G+ icon on top bar? I've got the international version with MEO provider (Portugal), and I never saw the 4G+ icon active.

4G+ Means LTE-Advanced aka True 4G, and it is faster than 4G. The only difference is the maximium theoretical speed, bandwidth and minimium latency you can get. 4G can reach speeds up to 100Mbit/s, while the 4G+ (LTE-A) can reach up to or over 1GBit/s, with less than a few milliseconds of latency.

As far as I see, this option does not set "LTE only" but data only. What I need is to set the phone to LTE only. Thanks anyway.
