hello frds my question is we enable hd video recording in x8?
bcoz it is possible in iphone 3gs
http://www.redmondpie.com/enable-hd-video-recording-on-iphone-3gs-jailbreak/
the camera is same 3.2 so it is possible ?
An X8 is not an iPhone,it has different hardware AND software, so if they could do it on the iPhone, that doesn´t mean anything to us.
And HD is just the size of the frames and doesn´t give you more quality, and maybve the quality will be weird, as the images of the camera have to be stretched by the software, and a small picture strecthed to a big size always looks weird.
The camera could do HD videos, because it has the resolution. Other question is that the processor could not keep up with the real time encoding (even with 640x480 resolution the video might skip some frames). So it could be done, but it will be totally useless.

I am a new android/captivate buyer. Try as I might (googled for a few hours) I could not find anything on the Captivate and it's Hd playback. My question is:
Is there a way I can play Youtube HD on my Captivate via stream? (and NO I don't mean High Quality I mean straight up HD *720p*.).
I'm just mad the iphone 4 can and I can't find a way to do it on my captivate.
Thanks
Jose
I'm not sure if there is a way to do it or not but it may be worth pointing out that the captivate screen doesn't have the resolution to display 720p. I have heard that the iPhone 4 packs a very large number of pixels so 720p probably makes sense on that phone. I have also heard that the pixels are so small that they may not be entirely decernible to the human eye.
I would be interested in knowing if you do find a way to view 720p on the captivate. I'm more interested in downloading than viewing though.

Not sure about youtube HD but I have played 720P files on my Captivate with no problem whatsoever and it looks fantastic. The Captivate may not have a
720P resolution but it will still look better than 480P.

I totally agree. I watch podcasts (pardon the term) in 720p on the captivate and they are breathtaking. When I said 720p didn't make sense I was thinking more from the angle of the developer. As a user I would love to have the full selection of resolutions to choose from

I am trying to increase video recording resolution of our phone from 640x480 to 720x480.As our phone can decode videos upto WVGA resolution so it should be possible to encode videos of this resolution (I can be wrong).I have achieved to the point of having 720x480 in recording settings. But getting camera call back error on starting recording. So if anyone can tell if recording is hardware limited(processor/camera sensor) or not,it will be very appreciable.
thanks

P.S-I am using DDKQ8 SGS2 camera mod by CCGH thats why interface looks different
No one huh :/ I will ask a few devs i know to look at this thread then
Hey!
The Motorola Defy has 480p as default but they have ported the Defy+ rom to it and it enables 720p!
But it is Armv7!
In short, our camera is capable to shoot 720p as it can take 720x480 photos but it has to take 30 such photos in one second and the hardware doesn't allow it. It has low capability hardware so shooting at 30 FPS and 720x480 can take a lot of load on the hardware and so it might not work at all. Also, you will need additional codecs to record 720p.
So it will be tough to make it work and the video might be laggy..

720p=/=720x480.
Defy is diff. case.Thats armv7 so its reference doesnt help.
What I am asking is 720x480 encoding possible by our processor or not.
2nd problem is aspect ratio-our default ratio is 4:3 and 720x480 is 3:2.So i guess this resolution MAY be related to wide angle lense or something. Its just an assumption. We cant have 720*480 full screen.Black bars will be there. So most probably needs XML resizing in camera app
is it possible to play 1080p video? i tried on mx video player but no luck. 720p plays fine.
Im asking this because, a couple of days ago, I got to play with a tablet. pretty low end with 1ghz and same resolution as OB but it plays 1080 video.
Due to the OB screen size, I think it is useless to play 1080p (and 720p).
But anyway, I don't know how to play it. Tried with Mobo Player?
Envoyé depuis mon LG-P970 avec Tapatalk
The single core can not run the 1080p, it's slow.
For 1080p request minimum dual core!
mobo wasnt able play them
yh i kno tht 720p will b enough for this screen. but converting a big hassle for me.
I'm sorry xD!! Buy a dual core
but it's also useless
i found no difference in gs2 between 480p, 720p and 1080p
(a little between 480p and 720p) not in 1080
hehe yh like i said, not much difference when it exceeds 720p...but the hassles of converting....
the reason i was asking this was that tablet was able to play 1080p on single core at 1Ghz. it was on ICS.
but well, guess i just hv to convert...
can't play 720p h264, sucks big time
No its able. Custom patch the 1080p recorder app to make it compatible with single core. But of course the performance of the video record is quite of a disappoint.

I'm trying to modify the resolution video recording in which stock S5830i is 320x240.
It seems that could change the parameters of maximum resolution to 640x480, and could use, but only on a webcam app, in it the selection of resolution to be used.
The camera does not have a native setting of 640x480, so who can give a solution or know of an application that can replace the camera app for recording and has the ability to select the resolution, please, will help.
Thank you.
(sorry my english)
I'm pretty certain the problem is due to hardware limitations, and not related to the software.
You could get a new phone.
Yep. It is the hardware limitations.
You can try to force it to record in 480p just like they did in the Galaxy Mini forums I guess.
Try lgcamera and see if recording in 480p works.

Guys, I'm trying a procedure in which a friend here at XDA made to enable 720p camera in front for the Galaxy Tab
And VideoCore 4 (BCM2763) is capable of recording in full HD. BCM2763
Apparently I managed to gain some quality and would like to share, I begin to compare.
Thanks system.img at lgcamera.
Check below, the two comparative videos
640x480
320x240

Yes, the GPU is capable for recording 1080p, it has to encode the camera data, so why can't we mod it?

Wait firmware update ... same was on S5830 and firmware updates solve this "problem".
Cheers
I'm recording at 480p smoothly.
As the guys have not replied to the topic, here I will post instructions on how to make change for those interested.
The file that should be changed is the media_profiles that is in / etc. I'll post here the file has changed.
Procedure (root is required):
1 - Download the file and put the sd card - File in my dropbox
2 - With full access to the root, move and replace the file to the / etc
3 - Restart the phone
4 - Install Lgcamera (PlayStore)
5 - In Lgcamera select resolution 640x480
Ready. Just write!
Thanks!

if we get GPU drivers from Broadcom then we can record 1080p HD videos ???
Guys Broadcom Will be releasing a CM7.2 with full CPU and GPU Source if everything goes okay.
If everything goes okay, im pretty sure we will be able to record in 720p or maybe even 1080p which i personally think would not be possible with 5MP camera.

I do not know, but I will try.
; D
I went and tested this a bit...
Any resolution above 640x480 - glitched camera, but you can still see shapes and motion moving and stuff like that so I don't know it it's the firmware;
Camera fully crashes when trying 720p or higher
Only works on H.264 encode, anything else it will crash
Seems to be very good at handling bitrate, as expected, because of the GPU, I tested up to 5Mbit but i'm sure it can handle more, gets a bit jittery though. 2Mbit looks like 'enough' for this resolution
(320p/20fps/?1mbit are factory defaults)
480p/20fps/5mbit seems to be the best option
edit: Must use ARM_NB audio encoder and record in 20fps or it will be out of sync

720p is possible:good:
The videocard (VideoCore IV) can handle 1080p at 1.5GPixel/Sec.
Does this mean the camera could also handle this?

It's not about the app, alright? They phone wasnt originally designed to take videos at that resolution, so it's about modding it so that we can makw it possible

Is this a common problem with all the Tab 8.9's or is it just me. I have a bone stock new Tab and when I try and play youtube or other videos, it stops every couple seconds and lags ... Wallpapers all look pixelated no matter what resolution I download ...I love the Tab so far, but things that should operate without too much tweaking or manipulation seem to require a lot of work to get working correctly. I hope I dont regret the decision of not getting an Ipad
Im sorry to tell you, but all Tegra 2 devices are unable to play 720p or 1080p videos without stutter. Even with an OCd Cpu it wont (some people say, but theyre desperate just like all of us..)
Other dual cores can because they have something integrated, that we call NEON. So its not about the cpu speed at all, its about a missing function, to decode HD material (overall video material, but the cpu can handle low resolution vids).
Some codecs on the market (for ex. BSplayer) can help but it'll still be a bit laggy.
EDIT: It is possible to play 720p or 1080p videos. You have to convert the video to H.264 Baseline profile. With that, it should work.

Try mxplayer. I found anything I recorded on my S2 would stutter like mad when played back on my tab but since mxplayer upgraded and added the hw+ decoder it plays perfect. As for youtube this problem has come up since the ICS update and not much you can do about it sorry
