Trackball only rom? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I have a nexus one that I'm trying to let my friend use until she gets a new phone but my problem is the digitizer doesn't work. So I was wondering if anyone knew of or could put together a rom that could make the phone somewhat useable with just the trackball

You could get by using cm7 ROM and tb.
Make sure to activate tb wake and tb unlock

TB?

Yea CM7 has pointer support

Ya that would probably work. Any ideas for a workaround for the four buttons at the bottom?

Download an app from the market called Button Savior
edit: that is so not going to work if the digitizer is busted, sorry

App to disable captive buttons

Is there an app that can disable the lights in the captive buttons?
I still want them to be functional, I just don't want them on.

I'll second this, from a theming point of view, this would be a desirable thing to have... perhaps someone could suggest a hack instead
I was about to suggest this app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.geekherd.softbuttonshack
however it is clearly stated that this is not possible on the Nexus S
*ALERT: The Samsung Nexus S will NEVER be supported. Not because I don't want to, but because it is not possible, I own one and I have tried and tried. Samsung (or Google) have decided that the bottom LEDs will always be on as long as the display is on, powered at the same time. Obviously breaking a few APIs as well as the ability to turn those LEDs off based on the light-sensor.*

I'd like that too :/ +1

Hmm well I've experienced instances where the screen is on but my buttons didn't light up. It looked pretty cool with a black background which lead me to start this thread.

I'd rather an app but I think CM has this feature

Agile Lock Screen - CM7

Guys, saw someone else post this in the Development forum and thought I would post here. Basically the sense 3.0 Lockscreen but I cannot seem to get it to work. I'm guessing it's something within my settings but if one of you gets it working please let me know. Always nice to have options!

I like the ripple lock :-D
I have it working. Click on the app in your app drawer and then click start. Thats it! I think I may buy it that way I can adjust everything. For those who bought it, you can change the icons right?

Every time I engage the lock the phone won't wake up. Any one having this?

thats strange...try uninstalling and reisntall it or you can try a restart of your phone. something goofy is acting up. I haven't seen too many complains like that in the reviews so I would try one of those things I mentioned.

Yah I tried that before too, I'm thinking it may have something to do with my cm lock screen settings that are conflicting with this. I'm using the lense.

Having the same issue with having to use the volume to unlock. Tried it on a fresh install of 1.3 with no luck. We've gotta figure this out, paid and free versions don't work.

Sounds great, I would love to get this to work and I'll continue to play with it.
Interestingly enough, when I disable the Status Bar in the Agile Lock settings everything works as it should. Of course this is only available in the paid version.
This work for anyone else?

Backlight Dying

So the backlight on my D3 is going in and out when I slide the keyboard. Any suggestions?
Umm try turning off automatic brightness lol.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
So did you find out if this is a hardware issue instead of a non-issue?
Turning off auto brightness didnt work. Pretty sure its a hardware issue now. Off to Verizon I guess to get it replaced
Make sure you get rid of root and stuff lol

Lol yeah. They had me do a factory reset when I called, which caused my phone to get stuck at the create accounts screen (some motorola process FCd everytime I hit finish). I had to use Pete's tools to restore my system/app folder and now its good again( except for the no backlight part). I probably should unroot it too. For now the only way I can get the backlight to work is if the slider is slid halfway. Waiting on my replacement now.

Yesssssss.......
downloading now, will flash
The needing to use trackball to navigate is due to this being from the SDK ROM as that doesn't have touchscreen support only mouse and keyboard. I wonder if pulling those relevant files from gingerbread would help.

Looks like it. He posted on his website about it. http://t3hh4xx0r.com
Edited as r2doesinc requested no direct links.
Thanks for your work Joel, but how do you get past the screen after the lockscreen? I clicked on ok and the app drawer button and couldn't get the welcome screen to go away. Any luck?

I've found that in order for it to register "touches" with the trackpad, you need to move your finger a tiny bit while it's pressed down

I went to the email setup screen, but since keyboard does not work i had to go back CM7.

Disable on screen buttons in CM9?

How can I disable the back, home, and recent apps on screen buttons in the CM9 ROM? I know I saw a post about it a long time ago, and it worked for that build. I can't seem to find it anymore. I know it's a simple build.prop edit. Anyone remember?

at one point the kernel has this:
tap and hold the menu key for like 3 seconds then release.
Do the same to toggle back on.
Does it still have this function?
Please feed back here.
And will it stick after reboot.
Its not that easy
You have to decompile the framework-res.apk (If you know how), and then got to values/bools.xml Find <bool name="config_showNavigationBar">true</bool>, and change 'true' to 'false' !!
