How exactly would you calibrate it? Do you mean disabling/enabling like 180 or what?
the accelerometer readings are off in one app, they are working only if i have tablet in horizontal position... this might be the apps problem itself but, i really need it in landscape mode, it calculates G-Forces, and i get constan 1G in landscape when standing still

Since you have backlight in landscape I bet it is a software issue. Have you tried reflashing your ROM?
I would try w/out wipe 1st and see if it helps, then if not try it with a wipe.
If neither worked I would try reformatting my sdcard, rewiping and reflashing.
If none of that works than you *may* be looking at faulty hardware and might be heading to the T-Mobile store...
well i got off the phone with cc they said they dont know how to fix or whats wrong with it ... so ill be rooting a new phone in a couple days

That's pretty weird. Might be hardware related if it's doing that.
Can you enable Auto-rotate and see if it still produces the same results?

WTF my G1 just developed this exact problem! i accidentally hit the tracbal,l while booting wich put me in bluelight mode so i removed the battery and suddenly the backlight wont work in portrait mode
Did you try restoring a recent nandroid backup?
My friends G1 is unresponsive whenever the screen is closed, but seems to work when sliding it open. The funny thing is, while the device doesn't perform any actions when the screen is closed, it still seems to be responding to touch. When the screen is opened again, your touched actions will "catch up" and the phone responds. This happens from recovery mode as well as in Android.
Can anyone help?

The phone is in standby/sleep mode while screen is off, so you cant use the touch screen. You must double tap Menu to get to the home screen. While in recovery mode you cant use the touch screen cause you have to use the hardware buttons or the trackball. Im guessing you were unaware that the phone goes into sleep mode. When you slide the KB the phone wakes from sleep mode and allows you to use it.You only have to slide it when you need it not just to do it randomly.
No no, sorry if I worded it incorrectly. The screen is on and it is frozen when the slider is closed. Once you open the keyboard, everything works fine. As soon as you slide it in, the screen freezes on its current display and stops updating.

What rom are you using?
If it is a hero rom then it doesnt work while in landscape mode so you cant open the KB while on home.
Its a 2.1 ROM by Kingx
The screen behaves the same in and out of android though...such as in the recovery (JFv1.4) console. If the screen is closed, the screen "freezes", but the frozen picture is still displayed. If you slide the screen ouţand expose the keyboard, it works fine. The phone otherwise operates normally, as does the standby mode.

You need to upgrade your recovery though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566669
Try wiping and reinstall the rom and wipe everything. Also you need a task manager cause you might have a billion apps open.
I'll try it on his phone when I get off work. Thanks for the recovery link. Do you prefer this over JF?

JF is super old and lacks many features from Amon_Ra. But it's based off of Cyan 1.4 recovery. It makes a lot of things easier like partitioning, wiping, backup, restoring roms.
Alright,
Home now with his phone. I swapped JF's recovery with RA. The issue still exists, and I'm wondering if it's hardware related...
This is frustrating. I don't know if I can fix it for him...
The problem seems to have gotten worse on its own. If the screen is closed at all, the screen will go black with a slight image shown with what seems to be an unworking backlight. However, upon sliding the keyboard open again, the backlight does not return until the device is rebooted while leaving the keyboard open.
Edit:
The backlight seems to come on sometimes when you slide the screen open...

You might wanna wipe and install another rom to see if the problem stays. There might be a hardware problem with your phone.
I've wiped and tried a couple of other ROMs but the issue persists. If it's a hardware issue, is there anything I can try to fix it?

It could be the ribbon that connects to the display. If you can find the assembly guide you could replace the broken or loose piece. But i'm not 100% on which part of the display needs to be replaced. You could ask someone at T-Mobile or at a electronics store what the problem is.HTC offers a free 2yr warranty so you might be able to get a replacement.
Bumping this to see if this was ever resolved. Having the same issue, and considering replacing it brand new, but wanted to know what exactly needs to be replaced so I can order it.
I recently flashed a gingerbread rom and I am supposed to have multitouch with the keyboard, but i have tried pushing two letters at the same time and it does not work. Does this feature not work on the nexus one? I also had smartkeyboard pro before and it would kind of work but would mistype sometimes. sorry if someone had already asked this but i couldn't find it. oh and i can pinch zoom in the browser though.
The digitizer in the N1 is a POS. Why do you think Google left the
2 fingers rotate out of the N1?
The 'fix' for rotate on Maps also 'works' with the keyboard.

It does help but still the limitations is in the hardware itself.
Hence the inverted comma use.

Seems to me that 'fix' would be worse then the problem. When trying to detect two touches that are close along an axis it really kills the accuracy. If you try holding shift and pressing a key, I wouldn't be surprised if you end up hitting the wrong key half the time.

Yup, that's exactly what happens. I enabled multitouch on my N1 and have the gingerbread keyboard apk installed. If you press and hold shift while trying to hit any of the buttons near the shift key ..... don't bother.
I'm handy with screwdrivers - is there any way to upgrade the digitizer?

Now that would be a Christmas miracle If I only had a decent digitizer and maybe double the internal memory then I could go the rest of my life without even looking at another phone!

Right, that's the issue with the digitizer, not the 'fix'. It seems that Gingerbread (and Maps 5.0, I suppose) makes an attempt to make up for the errant multitouch responses on our phone by just filtering them all out. The 'fix' removes that filter, so you get pure, unadulterated NexusOne wonky digitizer action. It works decently for gestures (rotating the map, for instance) but less so for things that require accuracy (keyboards).

Physically replacing the digitizer would only be half the battle. You'd still have to get the hardware interfaces to match up, and get the software drivers working. Call me crazy, but if you need precision multitouch, you'd probably be better off just getting a different phone. Samsung phones are supposed to have some pretty excellent multitouch.
I have this app on my G-tab and it appears to be working, but without any sort of magnetic sensor to sense direction could it really be orienting itself to the sky correctly? I love the app and hope it is accurate, but am thinking it can't be. Can it?

What it seems to use is the accelerometer and starts at the north position and based on your rotation it attempts very badly to figure your position. I turn the automatic mode off and just use the manual mode. I have not tried it with a GPS unit attached to see if it would work better in automatic mode.
The GPS doesn't really seem to make a difference, as far as I can tell. I cant set my location manually or by GPS. It is somewhat useful manually though.
GPS helps with location, but for orientation, we are sol.
Its ok though, because even on other devices with compass and accelerometer and orientation sensor I still can't get it to be accurate when i hold it up toward the sky.
As long as you've set your latitude and longitude correctly and you are facing north, the sky map should be pretty accurate in automatic mode. (BTW, I don't sent the Location at all, only Lat / Lon.) If you hold it up above your head, the app indicates zenith correctly, and also the nadir point 180 degree apart.
The app in landscape mode jitters quite a bit for me--even sitting quietly on the table. Flip the gtab into portrait mode, and the display stabilizes like magic.
Hi,
has someone else problems with the screen rotation?
Actually I like to use macdroid to control when screen rotation is enabled. It will activate based on where I am and what app I use.
So the rotation is usually portrait fixed but when I use youtube ie. the screen will rotate so I can use landscape there too.
The problem is that either by using macdroid or even when I enable/disable rotation too often it won't rotate anymore.
I have to restart the device to have it working again.
Can you confirm this? Or is this just my device?

Nothing wrong here. Turned on the auto rotate, went to youtube, played a video in portrait mode. Then rotated the device and the video went into landscape.

Try turning rotation on and off several times and then see if rotation still works after you turned it on.

Well, this sounds like app specific problem. Don't use macdroid for such tasks and u're ready to go.

As said it even happens when I press the tiles button too often. So its not a problem of the app.
But maybe the device is broken. I'll try to reset it and see if the problem exists if a few more people can confirm its not a problem for them I guess.
No issues whatsoever with screen rotation here. Sorry.

Yes i had the same issue! Each time the problem appear i have to reboot my phone !
I install phone tester on play store, and it seems that accelerometer stop working (it wait for data)
Moreover, i had the problem in Safe Mode (power on Button -> long press on Shut Down -> 'Do you want to restart in Safe mode' -> Yes)
I think if your screen didn't rotate in safe mode, the problem is not a third app.....
For my phone i will bring it to warranty tomorrow

This is another issue which looks to me like a software bug in the system itself.

You can try something else: on google map, is the compass working?
On my previous nokia 7 plus, both compass and screen rotation didn't work properly.
I just change it this morning on the shop i bought it, and the compass is working on the Nokia 7 Plus i had now
Hardly I have to calibrate often. I guess my device is broken so I will return it too.
The new one i obtain this morning already have the last version of android (8.1 instead of 8.0 for the first one), i think the second one was not from the same manufacturing batch.
I hope you will obtain a new phone or a quick reparation!
I got my replacement phone and after some testing I can say that the initial device was faulty. The new one does not show the problems mentioned.
