apparently i have downloaded an extra 85mb of data and they now what to charge me £250
i called and asked when i did this and was told from 10pm on a friday to 7am on the saturday morning
i find this very strange as i was in bed at this time and i am sure i would have remembered doing this
it cannot be anyone else in the house hold as no one knows how to use my phone but me (wife as techincal as beans on toast and daughter is 3 and asleep at this time)
but my provider stated i did download this data
has anyone come across a tytn downloading on its own
and is their any way of recovering the history of the phones data with software installed now
help please
I am currently going thru a situation where my Kaiser connects to MediaNet for no reason http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387344
I suspect that at some point during the night your phone connected by itself and remained connected. At this point I have no cause or solution except to shut your phone off at night as I do and check it during the day to disconnect. I have an unlimited data plan, but I am sure at some point AT$T will hit me with excessive data download. Hopefully I or someone can come up with something.
P.S. Have already set the Kaiser Tweaks shut off to 1 min to no avail although I have read in this forum that some of the Kaiser Tweaks no longer are effective with the new AT$T Rom update.
this happened to me and i told them it wasnt my falut and that i wasnt going to pay for it...so i made a deal with them hahaha...i said i would change my data plan (from $15 to $25) for unlimited data but i told them i wasnt going to pay for the extra charge and im a loyal and long customer so they let it slide....I paid and extra 10 bucks instead of 350 in charges hahaha
thanks
guys
NoData is great!

There is a simple solution to this!
Just download and install this little app called NoData!
Then toggle your data connection and the phone will never use your sim to connect to internet, unless you toggle it back again!
I hope this helps!

Or you can just set up a dead end setting thru your connection menu in your start>connections>manage existing connections and toggle from there right? And not have to worry about "bizarre registry errors" After toggling. Seems like a good work around but being a needy SOB, I "need" to know what is causing this spontaneous connecting all of a sudden?
I dont know if this has anything to do with the ROM im running (cyanogen 5 series)
but when i lose service for a period of time, like in my office, then i go outside on the road, it remains without service until i reboot. Anyone else running into this? I find it annoying i have to restart just to make a call
Try toggling on and off Airplane mode. Probably quicker.
Are you running the latest Radio?
Hi,
What radio version are you using?
*#*#4636#*#*
ERE36B 32.24.00.22u_4.03.00.21_2 ...is that the information u were looking for?
i have the same problem! it happened after the first radio update and im running stock rom..i have to go to settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network operators/select automatically to fix the probelm..its crazy because it shows i have full bars and 3G and I still can't send messages or call people till i do my fix...any answers??
same problem, i havent updated my radio but am using the latest cyanogen. i usually reboot. thanks for the airplane mode tip.
Moved as not Android Development.
Come to think of this... I had the issue once. I tried toggling Airplane Mode, but it kinda froze and wouldn't let me disable AM. Had to reboot and then it worked fine. Weird, but have only had it happen once. Someone post about this on Google's support site?
My sister has the Nexus also (talked her out of iPhone) and she's having these same issues. 3g dropping to edge randomly while the phone is just sitting there. Can't send SMS and has to reboot the phone. I feel bad because I'm the one that told her to get it and now she's having all these issues... though AT&T really sucks in my state. Her phone is up to date with the OTA updates.

Those are separate issues, I think. I haven't ever experienced those issues... all I've had happen is to go into a building for a while where there was no signal, then after leaving and going outside, not reconnecting to the network. As I said though, a reboot fixed my issue. Not sure about your sister's issue, though it seems some are also experiencing... but not everyone is, which leads me to believe it's either something network related, or specific to a handful of phones. Perhaps a swap with HTC is in order.
It's network+Android. It's even prevalent in good 3G/H saturated areas. Anytime you're switching a speed (EDGE -> UMTS -> HSDPA) all data transfers stop until it's initialized. Unfortunately it seems that Android is handling this changeover extremely slowly and the problem is exacerbated by switching towers (like when you go to a new location). I've found that whenever I travel to a new location I use an Airplane Mode widget toggle when I get there and the problem goes away until I go somewhere else. But like I said it still exists when stationary like if there isn't a really solid HSDPA connection.
It's annoying.
Edit: I should point out that this problem exists with EDGE-3G (first gen Android handsets) as well. Try to do a stream or something like that with one bar of 3G then have it get knocked down to EDGE. 10 to 1 the stream gets interrupted. I know it happened plenty in certain areas with my G1. We're only noticing it more on the N1 because of the antenna placement makes staying on mediocre 3G connections tricky and add in the fact that we're now dealing with a THIRD connection type.
Edit again: I reread my post and it sounds like I'm coming off as "ZOMG THIS IS FACT". It's nothing more than my personal opinion and experiences. Sorry for the confusion.
Again... I think the OP is talking about LOSING SERVICE altogether.... i.e. the bars going grey and the little x showing up above the bars. Not the data connection switchover. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what he's asking about.

Possibly, the OP isn't clear but that is pretty normal for XDA.

Dude... read the post again. It's as clear as day...not to mention the title of the thread!
I've got the same issue too, and I'm with WIND mobile, so its definitely not a T-Mobile thing.
I either have to go to Airplane Mode, or if that won't work or takes too long, then I just battery pull, reboot and the phone is fine.
I've had this happen in different situations... If like the OP, I'm in an area with no coverage and then I enter a region with coverage, the Nexus One won't pick-up or notice that there's coverage and it'll just sit there and say no service.
If I try to manually select my Network/Mobile provider from the settings menu, it'll error out and say your SIM card is not recognized (others have had the same happen to them as well).
I've also had the phone go from full signal to a total loss of signal and signal would not return until I performed a battery pull.

I've never experienced the last problem you described...
By the way, instead of pulling the battery, you should do a soft reboot by pushing power, trackball, and volume down simultaneously. This is easier on your device then just cutting the power. Just bear in mind that it will take a few seconds for the phone to reboot, so be patient after hitting that key combo.

Thanks for the tip man... Will definitely do what you've described from now on.
WIND is having some network issues, so their signal might have cut out and then that must have triggered the loss of signal bug with the phone where it doesn't see to renegotiate the connection.
BTW, does setting it to "WCDMA Only" make a difference for anyone?
So today my data/internet 3g went down...I could receive calls send texts but no 3G verizon rep needed with my cell for a while kept going on how task killer and lookout was bad for my cell and was likely causing the problem...whatever I said and he couldn't figure it out do he hard reset...guy mentioned saving apps to SD card so here come
My noob question how do I save my apps to SD cars? And had anyone had 3g loss issues like I did today?

Get https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup&feature=search_result. Backs up everything to mem card including sms and call records. Warning do not back up contacts or calender. If they are already synced to google or BUA you will get duplicates.

Same here
I am losing 4g/3g pretty frequently now as well. When it goes off, it doesnt seem to want to come back - but a reboot does it.
The only thing I have kinda noticed is that if I am wifi, then leave the wifi area (thus disconnecting) it tends to drop the 4g as well and wont reconnect. I'll have to test this some more, but thats all I can tell so far.

I am having the same problem as you, between changing back and forth from wifi to 4g and loosing all connectivity besides voice. My girlfriend has a bionic as well and has no problems whatsoever. I also do have lookout installed and she doesn't so I will try uninstalling that to see if it help and check back. But it might be a faulty phone since my girlfriend is having none of my numerus problems. dropping 3g/4g, wifi super slow when my other verizon phone is having no problems with connectivity with 3g/wifi. randomly locks on me while Im using the phone and the timeout is set at 10 minutes. And one time it totally turned off, not even just a reboot. Anyways back to the connectivity, I will try uninstalling lookout and report back! Hopefully that works.
i think verizon is working on their towers and 4g as ive had alot of data issues too until yesterday when it seemed to resolve itself.
Hmm so it may be lookout... Well I installed it again so let's see how it goes on the wifi speed I had the problem the first day I connected to my home connection but as of late its all good. Is anyone else running lookout? Post what up with your bionic running lookout. The rep did say it might be just my cell in particular but seems I might not be the only one I guess will update as day goes

Ive been having the same problem with 3g. I stay on wifi most of the time but whenever I do have to leave the house or work, I will lose 3g at first.
At first, the only way I could find to fix it was with a power cycle. Since then, Ive discovered that turning on and off airplane mode seems to do the trick.
Next time you guys are having trouble, try toggling airplone mode once or twice. That has worked for me everytime.
It's not convenient, but I'm sure there is a fix in the works.
Oh nice i had tried to toggle airplane mode but just once ill give that a shot if i loose 3G again so far last night after hard reset and as of this morning everything running good even with lookout running... Might not even be lookout
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
It is definitely not lookout. Or any other useless battery drainer. Toggling airplane mode, rebooting, etc do nothing for me. It decides when it wants to come back.
I have had the same issue once today. It was alot more yesterday.
If it keeps up, I'll be taking it back.

Airplane toggle hasnt done the trick for be. Just as a shot in the dark, I removed juice defender. I do not think that is the culprit here, but anything that controls my radios is suspect at this point.
Huh i just thought about something yesterday in the morning i saw a post Bout someone developing an fm radio app and thinking about it now after i installed it thats when i started having issues... Just throwing that out there i didnt even use it though but i havent re installed it either so i dont know if that even the problem

I am not rooted yet and haven't applied any hacks/tweaks. My data connection drops whether Im in a 4G or 3G area, automatic or CDMA only.
Seems to happen randomly although this last time it happened after unplugging the Bionic from charging. Toggling airplane mode restores data temporarily. Verizon will probably issue an OTA update soon to fix this but I hope it doesn't break the root exploit or I won't install. Once we have a working ClockworkMod recovery the ROM chefs should be able to fix this...
I heard the verizon rep say that his bionic did the same thing when it was charging via computer because it was in debug mode so you might want to look into that if you charging via a computer... Maybe?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I've been experimenting a bit today and it seems that anytime my phone switches between data types, the signal goes down until a power cycle or toggling airplane mode. It happens the most when my phone goes from wifi to 3g. Whenever I leave my wifi area (work or home), the phone fails to find a 3g connection. This also happens if I manually turn off Wifi. If I've been on a wifi connection for a good amount of time and then disconnect the wifi, the phone won't find 3g.
Not sure if it has to do with my settings, but figured I'd mention them here.
Most of the time, I am in a 3g area so I keep my phone on cdma only unless I'll be traveling to a 4g area. Not sure if changing the settings to CDMA/LTE will change anything but I'm going to try that next.
Anyway, this is definitely something that needs to be brought up with both Verizon and Motorola. The more people who notice and say something, the faster we'll get a fix...at least in theory.
I switched to Verizon from Sprint and I'm not going back. Despite the issues, Verizon's 3g has been 5-6 times faster than the 3g I got with Sprint. Besides that, I should have 4g by the end of the year and the 25 Mbps down I am getting in surrounding 4g areas is killer. Just hope my switch to Verizon wasn't in vane. There isn't another phone on their network that even looks halfway appealing at this time and I can't wait a month for the Vigor or anything else to come out. Plus I like motorola build quality. So, let's hope a DEV or Motorola and Verizon gets this fixed on the fly cause its definitely an annoying issue.
Anyhow, if anyone finds a workaround or solution to this better than toggling airplane mode, please let us know. Starting to get tired of pulling out my phone looking for something, only to find out that I don't have data.
Has anyone else noticed their DROID 4 dropping data connectivity seemingly randomly and requiring a reboot to pick it back up? I know that I am...and I'm wondering if Motorola can't make it hang onto a data connection how hash is ever going to mmake it work right.
I haven't had any issues with data at all... LTE/3G handoffs work perfectly and everything ...And no worries, I am confident the data issues will be sorted out on the ics builds!
I have them issues. If connected via wifi no problem. But still wont be connected to the network. Requires a reboot to aquire network back

Rooted stock, no safestrap.
Though I doubt safestrap is causing data issues, or fixing them for that matter.
While I do plan on flashing some custom ROMs at some point, I have to admit that I'm very happy with the stock rom. Performance is very good, smart actions are actually pretty great (though there are of course 3rd party apps that do the same thing), and the camera app works pretty well.
My only complaint are the window transitions, blech. Yea, you can disable them, but then all the eye candy goes away completely! Ah Moto, why no middle ground?
I have had data connection issues on all the ICS ROMs but data on stock has been pretty solid.
Did you just port your number from another carrier to verizon? I had the same issue plus some and called verizon and they fixed it on their end. Hope this helps.

I had a few problems with my data just going out for a few minutes on the stock rom. I would be browsing the web, and then a page would just not load. I noticed my signal indicator was grey and not blue, and thus I wasn't getting a data connection. I just waited a few minutes and it came back up.
I never really though too much into it because I expect these small things to happen on such a big wireless network.

This is exactly what happens to me. It almost seems like a session timing out and renewing but I don't have a clue how the LTE network works.
Had the same data issue.. went to Verizon store and got a new SIM card (free) and problems cleared right up. Evidently the old SIM card did not get activated properly in their system.
I'm also having connection problems from time to time. I'm in a 3G only area. I'm running a stock non-rooted phone. Usually, I can get the connection back with a reboot. It's still a pain in the ass, I shouldn't have to deal with. I've called Verizon a few times. Its like talking to a wall with them. They act like you are the dumbest person in the world. Hopefully the next update can clear this problem.

After dealing with this problem for over 2 months I finally found an answer.
I have had this problem since day 2 and after getting the run around several times at the Verizon store (They claimed it was because they were upgrading to LTE in the area, which they said we'd have within 1 month over 2 months ago) they told me there was nothing they could do and suggested I call tech support (I don't know why I didn't think of that). I called tech support and talked to a very helpful woman, after describing my problem to her she asked me what phone I had, she knew the issue right after I told her it was the Droid 4. She told me it was a well known issue with the Droid 4 and that they expect a patch to be released at the end of the month (July) that would address the problem. She said that some people have had temporary success with toggling airplane mode (this has never worked for me but rebooting a few times does) and that having WiFi on, even when your not connected, can knock your data connection out (I have been able to reproduce this once so far).
So that's it. Keep your WiFi off when you don't need it, reboot when you have problems, and hopefully it will be fixed at the end of July.
I'm very disappointed with my Verizon store. Some of the employees I talked to owned a Droid 4 themselves and said they had the same problem and still claimed it was tower work. Either they were misinformed, stupid, or they were lying to me (who wants to buy a broken phone).
My Droid 4 does this in 4G mode. I've read that it's due to the nature of SIM cards. The network constantly vets and authorizes the card's access. If this vetting fails, you get the "white out", as I call it. It might clear up on the next pass, or you might have to reboot. My "solution" is to keep it in 3G mode. As for getting a fix at the end of the month, I'm not holding my breath, as I've read that that's VZW's standard response to just get the customer to shut up and go away.
I've been having the data dropping issue as well for the past few weeks. Running stock GB, rooted with safe strap, but have yet to flash a custom ROM. I thought the issue might be because I'm on a legacy Alltel plan with PRL 14012, which is way outdated...
Well, today I believe I finally found the source of what was causing the issue for me personally, from an unexpected source...Flipboard.
I've found myself glancing at it a bunch at red lights when I'm driving, or sitting in a waiting room, etc. Today I was driving though, and noted towards the end of my trip that this was the first time in weeks the phone hadn't once lost it's data connection for the entire drive. After reflecting for a moment on what, if anything, was different about this excursion, the only thing I could come up with is that I hadn't used Flipboard since I left the house. Even though my initial reaction was to seriously doubt a respectable app like that could cause such an issue, I had nothing else to go on. So, for the hell of it, I picked up my phone and fired up Flipboard...
Within 5-10 seconds of clicking it...BAM...gray 4g icon and no data would load. Needless to say, I uninstalled Flip**** right away...then reinstalled so I could comment on it in the market, then uninstalled again, and haven't dropped data at all in the last several hours. I also took note that a guy with a Droid Razr Maxx left a comment complaining that Flipboard was actually causing random reboots for him.
I don't know if any of you have Flip**** installed, or why you're having similar data issues, but if any of you do happen to have it installed, try uninstalling from the phone...not the market. Then, turn your phone off, pull out the SD card and SIM for a moment or so, put them back in, power up the device, and see if that might possibly help alleviate the constant data dropping. If I find I start dropping data again, without Flipboard installed, I'll update this post. Good luck.
No Flipboard on my phone. I'm glad you found an answer to your problem though.
Tappin' and talkin' with Tapatalk.
I've been having problems since Verizon turned on 4G LTE in my area. Once a day I have to remove my SIM card. If I don't, the 4G is very unreliable. Could it be a bad SIM card? Or maybe the fact that they just activated it here and they're working out the bugs? Anyone have any ideas?
I also forgot to mention, I've got a Motorola XOOM 4G LTE And have had not one single connection problem since 4G went live in my area.

I just have the data connection issue when ever i flip on wifi then disable it .. a reboot is required for data to work again regardless if i force 3g or if i am trying to use lte.. guessing it is a software bug.. i never seem to have a connection issue if wifi wasnt used prior.

I know this thread and comment are old, but if you use Spare Parts, you can change the Window Transition speed to Fast and then your phone seems much faster/smoother. Don't mess with Window Animation speed if you want to keep th TV-like power off blip.

I don't have Flipboard, however I noticed connection issues within 12 hours of getting my phone. At the time it was stock GB. I took it back to the store, he called tech support. Between the 2 of them, my phone was hard reset, the SD and SIM cards were pulled and the phone rebooted, they fiddled with settings, tech support tried to turn on data from their end, nothing worked. I noticed I lost my data connection when the Smart Action for battery saver clicked on. It was like it got stuck and the phone couldn't turn on data anymore. I did a factory reboot, and got data back. I turned on that first smart action, lost data connection again, it wouldn't turn back on. So I did another factory reboot, disabled that "Smart" Action, and been ok since then. I do still loose my connection, but I am able to get it back if I turn wifi on. Not sure why, but it works most of the time. Some days I still have data if I turn my wifi off, other days i have to leave wifi on if I want to use my 4g. I have my phone rooted, running GB and loving Spirit FM..(Having FM radio was the only reason why I rooted my phone..can't live without my FM!!) Is there anything I can do to get my data connection to stay on?
BTW an OTA update has occured for GB, but it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.
Ok So me and my wife just got our T-Mobile Samsung Note 7's about 2 weeks ago. But we have noticed that randomly we will look at our phones and we will have no Data/signal And the only way to resolve it seems to be to reboot. It is quite annoying. Anyone know how to fix this?
Not sure if this will address your exact issue, but when i first got my phone Binge On was affecting my data, so i turned it off and i am now seeing better performance.

Wife and I have both had this issue. I have binge on and she doesn't so I don't think it's that. Not sure what caused it. It's happened to her twice now.
My wife and I are also getting this it sucks.
Happened once to me, just turned airplane mode on and off and it was back.

It's happening to me after long periods of inactivity, sleeping, working etc. A reboot has been the only remedy thus far, I've tried everything and playing with tons of settings..
It happened to me twice today. but never happened before. I just restarted the phone and it was back on. Not sure why though.
Same thing happening here. I started using "Connection Stabilizer" and I haven't seen it repeat yet.... Two days since last issue...

Happened to me several times at home. Reboot didn't work once. Pulled the sim and put it back in. That worked. Reboot worked next time. And airplane mode the next. Hope the next software update fixes the issue.

I'll throw in that it has happened to me. It just eventually connects again. It hasn't happened recently.
There are issues with the radio it shipped with. It'll hop off LTE and switch to 4G also and refuse to go back in a timely manner. I've called on it and they're aware of it.
About 2 nights ago, my device showed that I had full 4g signal but I couldn't do anything that used data (i.e. Boom Beach, Chrome, Clash of Clans, etc.). I tried rebooting, airplane mode and rediscovery of the network in settings. None of this worked for me. I ended up connecting to Wi-Fi and using that for about an hour. About this time is when I could finally use my data again over 4g. I have Binge On off (has been since it was introduced). I checked to see if T-Mobile was having an outage, but it didn't appear so. Reseating the SIM card also did not work. Then I started to think, "It's after September 1st and T-Mobile One just started. Maybe they started the data throttling (I mean deprioritization...)." I normally use anywhere between 25-50GB a month. Normally on the higher end if I flash a new ROM and have to re-download my data. With setting up the Note 7 I am nearing 50GB. In the fine print of the T-Mobile One it stats that data could be deprioritized if the user goes over 26GB. If I remember it drops down to a speed in the KBs. I am wondering if my connection was working, but was just to slow at that time period to really do anything. Just a thought I had, and felt I would share.
Hey All, I had the same issue with mine. I called T-Mo reference this and their solution seems to have worked for me.
They walked me thru manually disconnecting from the network and rescanning to look for towers. After doing that a couple times, it seems to have resolved itself, as I haven't experienced the issue or noticed it again.
From Settings, Select - Connections - Mobile Networks - Select Network Operators - Search Now: Confirm "Disconnect Network" OK. Upon confirming your phone will search for available networks and show a list of available. Select T-mobile or your provider.
I did this a few times then, powered off and on. Then it seems to get significantly better. I did see the signal drop out 1 more time the day that I did the above steps. But that was significantly less that it happening every 15-20 min. Since that day, I have not experienced the mobile network signal drop again.
Hope it helps anyone.
I am having a weird issue where in certain huge areas I lose reception, then it comes back about 15-20 seconds later and then again does this. I thought it may just be bad tower positioning, but it happened to me again in a totally different part of another city. I was able to get a replacement before the recall luckily, but the same thing is happening. This specific issue happening with anyone else?
