Ever since I updated to GB, I have noticed that when I use the back button to go back to a previous page in the default browser, it just closes the browser.
Then when I open the browser back up, it opens back to the page I was on. I've looked around for a setting for this but haven't been able to find one yet....any ideas on what is going on??
I am unrooted....for now......
Known problem. No fix for now.

I fixed that problem by downloading Dolphin HD Browser from the market. It will pop up with a window asking if you want to exit before it will exit, plus doesn't seem to have that issue anyhow.

Yeah I switched to Dolphin HD too, so much better.

I too switched to dolphin. It still happens to me occasionally, bit much less often on dolphin.

When I open the browser, a Google search page is displayed instead of the specified home page (about:blank). How can I keep the browser from going to Google search?
I'm using the standard browser with Serendipity 6.3.
I get the same results when I use Firefox Mobile 4.0 browser.
From Google home page, go to menu/more/settings/set homepage. Put your desired hompage url in there.

That's exactly what I did without success. As I posted, the homepage is set to about:blank.
Hmmm...maybe try reset to default and try again?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
No change. I even rebooted. The home screen setting shows about:blank but the browser still goes to Google.
I'm on Serendipity 6.3 too. Just changed my homepage url successfully...but had to close the browser in task manager for the new url to "take." You may have some other issue.

I tried that as well. No joy. Oh well, I'll keep digging. Thanks for your suggestions.

Ah, so I'm not the only one having this problem...
Picked up a new Incredible S over the weekend (my old Desire died on me ...). I just starting having this same problem yesterday and initially thought my Swype installation screwed something up. Odd that it only seems to affects the Google home page. For instance, if you're on the news.google.com page and type in the search box, all is fine...
I also tried using Dolphin browser but had the same problem.
Problem with Cirian75's solution is then you lose the benefit of viewing mobile formatted pages...
I think google has done something recently to its search page and its not the phones.
Same thing, and appeared only today and only on mobile Google search page. Browser thinks that's a password form and fills the input text with points. There's also no option to type in other than english.

so we agree, we think google has messed up the code on the mobile search page
Nothings wrong with the phones suddenly, its google mobile search page thats gone tits up.
Same problem, and it only started happening yesterday, Google must have done something

Seems to have been fixed today. Working fine with both swype and stock keyboard. Didn't change anything on my phone.

long press in a text box, select 'input method" and switch back to the original keyboard, then select input method again and switch back to swype.
Yup. All's working fine now. Weird...
I flashed my first rom successfully yesterday, serendipity 6.4. Everything's great except 2 things so far; 1. my default browser doesn't work, my skyfire works but I liked the default best. 2. I added email thru the kitchen but every time I open it it force closes. Any suggestions?
How is the default browser functioning incorrectly? Need a little more detail than that to help.
"Web page not available" is what comes up whenever I open the default browser or google search. My skyfire browser works so I assume any other browser I get would work. But I really liked that one. It's like not connected to my internet. It might be a setting that I can't find, idk. I should see if it works on wifi maybe. Only my only wifi connection is myself...

It keeps starting up with google.com even if it's set to another page under setting. I already shut off all location based features (GPS, etc), but not sure if this relates.
Is there any fix on this or it's a common bug?
Set home page then shut down phone, then restart phone, it should load now.

Tried already. Actually, in the settings, it displays the url as the one I set as a homepage, but even that it will still load google.com when the browser is launched.
Everytime when going back to the browser, it will load a new window and go to google.com
Is there a file in the system's directory that can be deleted to clear the cache? Not sure if this is possible if the phone is not root.
Try clearing cache, history, etc. in the browser settings, then remove the battery, install battery and see if that works.

Still no help, already tried the following:
Cleared all cache, set browser to factory setting, removed battery, removed SD card. Rebooted still loading google.com
Any other method besides going for the last step which is a hard reset? If there is a file in the browser's system directory that can be deleted to reset the preferences.
Are you typing in a valid url, if not it goes straight to Google, just a thought.
Download Dolphin Browser from the market, see if it works ok from that browser. It sets your homepage correctly. I had the same problem as you with the stock browser, but my instructions worked fine for me.

I tried firefox, opera mobile, dolphin all started up with google.com (same as the stock browser), even I set it with another "valid" url, they all ignored it.
I guess there is not a choice but a hard reset.
And of course the url is valid, it's a major one, which I have to enter manually each time because the browser ignores it.
Does anyone have an idea if this has to do with the location setting for GPS?
Hi there.
Well I currently have the s6 edge from att. Android 5.0.2
I know there is a newer android version but it's not been released yet on att.
Well my problem is that my Web browsers keeps crashing. It's crashes when I open it. Kicking me back to where home screen. Then I haven to open it again and now it works.
But it's always the first time I open it after not using it when it crashes. Same for chrome and Firefox. Haven't tried other browsers yet.
Any fix?
I noticed that with chrome a few weeks ago..switched to chrome dev..seemed to be fixed. Then as of recent, that has been crashing too..idk what could be causing it. Low ram maybe?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using XDA Free mobile app
I am not sure. It may be the famous sucky ram management. I don't know if this is fixed with the update
Mine's done it pretty much from day 1. The browser is the only thing that does it though. Doesn't matter if I launch a link from Gmail, email, search, voice, whatever. It always closes as soon as the page opens the first time. After that it's fine. I took the recent OTA hoping there would be a fix, but there was no change.
