[Q] Multiple Launcher Problem - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

I am having a problem with multiple launchers installed on my phone. If I install another launcher (launcherPro, adw, etc.) The resolver activity shows up like it is supposed to. I select a default (it doesn't matter which) and it does what it is supposed to do. After about 5 minutes, the phone forgets that I have selected a default, and if I hit home button, the resolver shows up again. This will happen every 5 minutes until i uninstall everything except sense.
Anyone else experience this, or know of any fixes?

I got my vivid on Sunday and since the minute I turned it on, I had adw ex. Haven't run into the phone wanting to use sense over and over.

^this , OR are you using the task killer and just pushing "kill all" ? i found that was killing adw ex, and i had to break the habit of just pushing that magical button and instead hit all the little x's and close the apps manually...
hope this helps,

no task killers. I did a factory reset, and that didn't fix the problem. I think I am just going to live with it. Hopefully we get a permanent root and custom recovery soon. I figure it is a software problem that will disappear once I get on a new ROM.

An update: Digging through logcat, I have figured out it is the HTC Messages app that is clearing the default. I am on the phone with HTC now, but not holding my breath. The 1st level tech support had not idea what I was talking about, and when I mentioned logcat it really threw her.
Can someone confirm this by installing another launcher and firing up HTC Messages and see what happens?

You mean the stock messaging app? I'm using launcher 7 right now with stock messaging app. Works fine.

What build number are you using pg? I have confirmed that the way htc is launching the stock messaging app screws up the home preference. I can duplicate it with a custom app i wrote.

Have you tried a hard reset yet?
edit: by the way i'm using adw ex, no problems

How do I wipe my device, and how can I optimize (remove all the preloaded software)

Hello everyone!
I just switched to the HTC Hero CDMA from my Touch Pro 2 and am still learning the ins and outs of the Android OS. I want to remove many of the programs that constantly are running in the background, such as footprints and tweeter, or potentially flash a new ROM to the device. I not sure how to do either on with this new OS, could anyone offer any assistance???
Thanks in advance!

oh man.... you have lots to read.
coming from winmo is like getting in a car wreck and learning to walk again. forget everything you thought you knew about winmo, or windows, it won't help you here.
as far as rooting and flashing roms/ if you just got the phone it probably came with android 2.1 which is unrootable atm. if it does have 1.5 then read the wiki http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674833
read this http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/ to answer your question about the background apps
hope this helps and good luck

I read the article about not using a task killer, but would still like to stop
Some apps from being used by default. More specifically, the stock android messaging program. Right now I'm using handscent and get notifications from both programs still. Do you know how I could disable the android messaging app, or any app for that matter?

go into the stock messaging app press the menu hardkey then press settings and uncheck notifications and auto-retrieve. you need to keep the app because handcent piggy-backs off the stock android messaging app.

Working good on my Captivate.
One concern: How do I take off the "minus" marks on the app icons that lets us delete apps right from the home screen (the screen we get when we click on the home button).
I see this as a security risk. I have app protector pro. But then, we can just delete the app protector pro in this mode without even asking for any password or anything, and all my apps are open for everyone to use.
Could anyone please help me take off this option to quick uninstall apps from home screen.

Nope. I am serious. So far I realized that unless a person knew how to mod a Captivate, he didn't know how to access protected apps. But now, even a layman can just delete the 'app protector pro' and access all the apps that are supposed to locked by it.

You do know that once you rooted your phone, anyone with a little knowledge can do much more than simply delete apps... just don't lose your phone or give it to an iphone buddy who might wonder what the neat little thingys on your screen do
Bye. What launched are you using that you see this in.... and deleting an icon from your home screen does not uninstall it on any that I have used

Not the icon. Like when u press the home icon, u can see all the apps present on ur device. For user installed apps, u can see a small "minus" in a circle on the right top of app icon, just like in iphone when u go to edit mode. click on that, and it will uninstall the app.

Pardon me if my concern is not really one. I am just expressing myself.
I use Application Protection from the market. Upon uninstalling any app it always asks for the pin. There is no removing the program without it.

Right, this is as long as the app is there. I am telling about a situation where the protection app itself is removed. I could remove it without it asking me for the pin.

Another possible solution is to install another launcher that dosen't have uninstall in the application tray or doesn't work at this time (my LG Optimus below) and use root explorer to remove the two launcher and reboot.

Others have already pointed this out, but what you need to do is dl and install a different launcher from Market and then uninstall the TWLauncher. Problem solved.
Just because TWLauncher is the default in Cog 2.4.1 doesn't mean that you have to use it. Get another launcher. Or you could try never letting your phone out of your sight...

multitouch issue

Is anyone else having issues with the multitouch? i have noticed it while gaming i can press on two points of the screen at the same time, it seams to loose one of my fingers.
No problems here. Try Multitouch Visualizer 2 from the market. It might confirm your suspicions.
Thanks, i did try that and i get point one to show up but if i tap the screen and hold my second finger down i lost point one :-( i think i will have to bring the phone back.
just as a follow up i did a factory reset on my phone and things are running normal again, i am not sure what caused this issue but happy its resolved. Thank you for your help argolfermd

Did this fix the problem permanently for you? I returned my first vivid because of this exact problem. My second worked fine for a few days, so I rooted it, but then the problem returned. Flashing a new rom solved the problem for a little while, but now it's back again.
Rebooting the phone fixes it for a little while, but the multitouch issues always return.
Here is a video I made with multitouch visualizer just so its clear what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI0GKZL1cqY
I think it had to do with the launcher I was using but the go launcher has been updated and is no longer a issue so yeah it's permanently fixed.

Thanks. That's strange because I have had this problem on multiple vivids, launchers, and roms; it just keeps coming back. I guess it could possibly have something to do with an app I have installed, but I have no idea how to figure out which one other than uninstalling them one by one which would take ages and might not solve the problem.
Does no one else have this problem on their vivid? Its pretty frustrating as it makes a lot of games impossible.

What you could try is use titanium backup to back up your apps and data then uninstall apps and see if that fixes it. And if not you can always restore back. I am on wild child's 3.5 Rom with mods and this thing is so fast I don't see the need for launchers so I am using stock sense.

I actually flashed the latest version of Wild Child's 3.5 ROM last night, and as I added my apps back one at a time I found the culprit: the Unlock With WIFI Free app. The problem only occurs when Unlock with WIFI is running. After some googling I found someone complaining about a similar problem with the app on another forum.
I'm glad I figured this out. It was driving me crazy.
glad you sorted out the issue.

Apps that replace lock screen or mess with wake lock seem to cause multitouch issues. Widget locker was always the culprit for me.

[Q] Keep losing home screen layout, Sprint ID appears to be the culprit

The problem is I don't see Sprint ID as an actual app, so I'm not sure how to get into it. I spent a good amount of time arranging my home screens (panels), widgets, folders, apps, shortcuts, etc. Out of the blue everything with the home screen got reset to the factory default. I'm pretty sure Sprint is the culprit. I'm wondering if there's a way to disable Sprint ID so this wont happen anymore.
Thanks in advance.

You won't find Sprint ID on the phone. I found it to be odd as well. I checked the website, and it's not even a Sprint ID supported phone. I think they only reason why it was there in the first place was to brand the phone after activation. Then it just goes away.
Nope. Mind did it twice. Once upon activation. Once after I had things set up.

I believe it happens if you disable the sprint apps. Once you do that, it redownloads them and messes up the home screen.

Sprint ID is already removed from Viper's ROM. It's listed as "id.apk". I would assume that it's under /system/app.

I found out that with Facebook home if you set your other (whichever your using) launcher (I use Nova) instead of fb home as you permanent launcher ans still leave fb home active then it takes the place of your lock screen. Looks really nice.
Well it works for me on Ice Cold 8.8 and worked for me as well on Open Kang. So I see no reason why it should do the same with all other roms though I haven't tried a Sense rom lock screen.

Facebook Home replaces the Sense lock screen. That seems to me not very comfortable.
It was just an idea for those who would like fb home but don't want it as their default launcher. Also you do know that the lock screen is not for security purpose unless you PIN it. Its purpose is to just lock phone from mistakenly activating any apps or butt dialing. So there really is no reason for anyone to feel uncomfortable about it.

Very good. As for the ROM?
I've used the UNOFFICIAL CM10.1 JellyBean Nightlies / M-series and it is simply the best for my Inspire. The nightly builds for ALL of the JB ROMS seem to mess with GPS or Bluetooth, so I just gave up on them entirely. I'm a flashaholic and try everything, but this is the daily driver... No bugs
