safe cpu temp?? when do you worry?

after overclocking to 1.4ghz and letting stress test run for about and hour, my CPU temp showed being 50 celcius. thats where i stopped.
do we know where the tempurature starts becoming dangerous for the device? i would say mine ran for about 15 minutes at 50 degrees and it didnt seem to effect it.
maybe its a dumb question because i doubt i will do anything with the phone on daily use that will push the temp higher than that.....mostly out of curiosity.

nobody knows what the max safe temp is?

Right. I wonder how u got urs to 50. Mine heats up at just 46, and that is when I stop what I doing n let it cool down. 40-42 can be considered safe.

well. i fugured out that the cpu only gets that hot when i can setCPU in use, and set to performance.......wich i have sense discovered is a bad idea and no longer using setCPU for anything.
i ran linpack for 20 minutes yesterday on my new setup and it only got to 43. though the phone did lock up at 22 minutes.....thats probably a whole other issue

[Q] note battery temperature inquiry on custom roms

hi guys. i was wondering what is yiur idle temperature for your note? i recently.moved from iphone 4s to Gnote and this transition is quite challenging as the android system has much bigger potentials and modifications can be made.
the temp cpu app says my battery temp is at 35 C and i can feel a warm temp near the camera. is it normal to have a bit of heat or is this being caused by custom rom installation? from iphone i did not have such problems with the temperature issues for daily usages. also i noticed when people try some kernels they say they have cold temp.. is this referring to the similar temp range or people do not feel heat?

I am finding a definite increase with Abyss kernel (stock ROM). It is about 5 to 10 C higher.
Battery use is down, however, which is odd. I am still going through testing & undervolting, no overclocking.

Nexus 7 Overcloking Heat

I want to know, if i want to overclock my nexus 7 what is the max safe temp i can go?

If my fuzzy memory serves me right stock thermal throttling starts at 85c and thermal shutdown at 100c..

Oh boy.. ..... ... What I gave you is EXACTLY what you asked for. I'm going to suggest you don't overclock because it's apparent you have no idea what you're doing or talking about.

I overclocked many devices and computers so i know what i am doing but 85 is not a safe temp so if know the max safe temp tell me if you don't stop insulting me and get a life.

Negative bro. Just because you've overclocked "many devices" doesn't mean you know what your talking about. He answered you and your response is get pissed and tell him he's wrong? If you know he's wrong you must know what's right, so why'd you ask!? If the manufacturer sets the the "safe temp" at 85 then yes 85 is safe enough. If you think that's too warm, fine pick a lower temp and go with it.

The question as posed has no answer.
The stock kernel throttles at 95C and shuts down at 100C
Some dev kernels use lower values than this.
The effect of heat is cumulative, and likewise for the number of temperature cycles.
(The point there is that 5 hrs @ 80C could be worse than 1 hr @ 85C)
In general devices that are heavily used experience reliability failures earlier than lightly used devices, whether they are overclocked or not.

I actually had a post written out going into this perspective also but decided to not even bother. :laugh: Good on ya though for going through with it. Another spin on it is the affect those high temps have on the hardware and chipsets around, or hovering on top of it. This is why I typically don't overclock my devices for anything other than a run through benchmarks. Also, besides using more battery and generating more heat for a longer duration, typical overclocks rarely produce any significant difference the end user can actually notice on these high end devices anyway. Hell, I don't even notice a difference on my single core Nexus S when OCing from 1ghz to 1.4ghz.

I need to test the CPU and Battery temperature in 3 cases 1-out of deep sleep 2-normal usage like surfing on chrome 3-heavy usage Antutu test can achive that
You can use CPU Temp it will give you all the readings for battery and CPU in graph if you leave it running in the background

i dont even know your temp and i can tell you its normal. if it goes above 70C, cpu temp, then thermal throttle sets in. if it hits 100C, your device will automatically shut down. anything below 40C is normal when not being used. anything below 100C is normal when being used. it will all depend how hard you are pushing your cpu. the harder you push it, the higher the temps will go.
there isnt a normal temp that it should be at, when in deep sleep, when being used, and when being used hard. there are too many variables to answer that correctly. so, there is no standard temp that it should be at.

I didn't need a standard temps I'm just asking to know if my temps are normal because my phone can get really hot with really simple tasks such as surfing the internet I'm talking about 50+ for the CPU which we can say that can be normal since I live in tropical country but what is not normal is the battery temepreture which most of the time above 38 to 43 and that makes the phone hot when I'm holding it

50+ is normal. and your body temp is 37C, so your battery temp is not hot at all, but normal. your phone will shut down automatically if your battery temp reaches 60C(to cool off). the only way ive seen it reach that warm was with playing cpu intensive games while charging or by streaming a movie while charging.

You know what worries me is I compared it to the note 4 the exynos version in the same condition as my wife has it and it's running really cool and nowhere near to this temperatures I'm having on the nexus 6

samsung sets up their cpu much differently than how google does. the note 4 also has the same sized battery as the n6, but its battery lasts longer on average. google also adds in a cpu temp throttle, where samsung doesnt. and the cpu is completely different anyways.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I wanted to mention a problem with the app you mentioned:
It turns out that app you mentioned: cpu temperature is actually only reporting battery temperature! (I confirmed by observing that the single reported temperature matched my phones battery temperature and was far less than any of the four cpu temperatures reported by cpu-z).
I am curious if anyone knows of an app that will provide a trend of cpu temperature(s) over time, rather than displaying only the present-time cpu temperatures like cpu-z

Questions about custom kernel and temperature

I had lag in some games solved this with resurrection remix and kernel M5. My question now is like a setting to have no problems with overheating am using min 300mhz ~ 1.4GHz is left with a high temperature 60 ° / 64 °(playing real racing 3) is safe?

Moving to a CM rom that doesn't have a CPU temperature throttle built in will give you faster perormance in games.
It's unlikely that you will damage the CPU with excessive gaming, but you will shorten the life of the battery. I thought I read somewhere about extreme temperature permanently changing the screen colour, but it might not have applied to the Z3c.

Not need the kernel m5? cm tested only with kernel m5, I will do a test only with the CM without the M5 kernel.

Heat is bad for electronics period. Phones aren't made to withstand long sessions of gaming as it does not have a decent cooling system to go along with it unlike gaming built cpus which have fans and liquid cooling to keep temps safe.
50-60 Celsius CPU temp for a phone is safe, you should get worried around the 70-75 Mark since the Phone throttle Temperature by default is around 80. I suggest playing in a well ventilated or an airconditioned room to keep those numbers down. You could also use a better governor for gaming like ElementalX or Lionheart and change it when you aren't gaming
