Anybody know how to do this? I found a solution for other devices, but not Droid 3. I need this pretty bad because my internal memory is getting full (11gb) and it doesn't save anything but media crap on external sd card (32gb) I need to save apps in ext card too..
Anybody interested?

Connect the device to the computer, transfer files to the external SD card (leave the folders alone). Done.
Or you can use Root Explorer and transfer the files...

Thanks for the reply, but I thibk you misunderstood me.
What I meant was that I would like to switch my External SD Card to Internal.
Since the phone saves everything (like apps) in the internal memory (except media files)
I want to use my full 32 gb sd card as internal mem instead.
I hope I explained clearer this time
You have to edit the mounting points in /system/etc/vold.fstab
I've done this on previous devices, but haven't done it on my D3, so I don't know if it will break anything, so do a nandroid before changing anything.
Do you happen to know how? Thanks.
Sorry. I want to keep this alive.
Check out this post from the CM9 thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21032236 . I am not sure if it can be used exactly as is for a Gingerbread setup, but it should at least give you a good starting point for what you need to edit in order to make it work for you. I know this was already mentioned, but MAKE SURE you have a nandroid backup and to be really safe make sure your phone is charged more than 50% in case you wind up having to do an SBF. If you were not aware, you can't program this phone when the battery is below 50% and it won't charge unless it can boot, so you can see the problem you will encounter if you brick your phone with a low battery.

He is trying to permanently swap the internal and external SD cards so that his 32Gb external is used as the primary storage and to accomplish this he will have to edit a few files in system. The link I provided earlier should get him the info he needs to do this.

sounds like you have a bad micro sd card. Corruption was common problem with the stock T-Mobile rom but not usually a problem with other roms.
Maybe you can take it out and format it. Hard Reset the phone and try it again.
You can format your card with Windows and that should work fine. Also I've had this program for awhile which is supposed to be far superior to any other program for formatting Micro SD Cards, but I've never used it. Here it is if you'd like it.
any special way to format it or should i just right click and then format?

It might be best to take the card out of the phone. Put it in a card reader and format it on your PC, then put it back in the phone. Making sure you hear it Click in.

I think there are some possible reasons causing troubles like this.
- Files where not cleanly closed at poweroff.
Alway make sure, all programms and applications are terminated before you shut down.
- Incompatible SD-Card
Always refrain from cheap and/or unbranded Cards. I use a Toshiba 2GB SDCard. Never had any problems. Even with the orginal stock ROM with WM5.
- defective SD-Card
Kinda hard to detect if you have just one card. Plug the SDCard into your PC and do a "surfacescan" on the virtual Drive.
- unstable SD-Card connectors
Try to clean the connection-pads on the card and inside your device with a small brush or paper tissue. Never use any other fluits than water to clean connection-pads on the card and just a little drop of it. Make sure everything is dry before you turn your device back on or some parts could get seriously damaged!
I think its also a good advice to see your SD-Card and Systemmemory as a very unsafe and unstable place for critical data. Always do backups as often as you can.
Sorry, for my bad english. Its late and I already had some drinks PLUS I am not very used to speak english anymore..

Don't install any programs that may be running at any given time on your SD card. If you have a program running (that's installed on the SD card) and you phone hibernates/shuts down after not being used ... will cause SD corruption.
Nothing with a Today plugin that you use ... nothing that you may accidently leave running.

You are right. It was not zipped right. I took it down. Zipped it correctly, tested it and reuploaded it. The one thats there now is the new one. This is supposed to be Professional software. The guy I got it from said it was the Best thing on the Market. I had never used it before, but I tested it today and it works fine.

Mine corrupted too
Hi, just few minutes back I was trying to copy some files from external harddisk to my wing's stock supplied Sandisk 1 gb memory card and looks like it got corrupted. All I see is some junk characters and boxes as file name. I lost all my (memorable)photos and softwares . I was trying to copy directly from my external disk to phones storage card and I am not sure whether this caused this issue. I have Open touch 2.7 biggy.
I have two questions.
a. Where does active sync stores all the files, contacts, calendar entries in computer (the directory path). I tried searching in the computer but could not find it.
b. Does active sync saves my storage cards file too? I dont believe so. Is there a way to ask active sync to backup files from SD card too?
Thanks in advance

After MIMO Ext 4 procedure is done...
1) What happens if you take out the external memory card after booting...
2) What happans if you lose the external memory card? Is the phone considered bricked then?
3) How do I reverse the MIMO Ext 4? (get rid of MIMO Ext4)
Anyways great info!!! I might actually try JM2 installation!!

1. Since your application data is now stored and ran from the sd card, your applications will go wonky, and any applications you try to install or reopen that have been close will not open.
2. No, if you lost the sd card, you can simply format another one, or use ROM manager and the clockwork recovery to reinstall your stock rom.
3. Rom manager or reflash original firmware with ODIN. But I recommend using Clockwork recovery to reinstall a nandroid backup found in the development section here, or an update.zip. As these methods are less intrusive an will give you less problems.
yay!! now I know and I dont' have to shiver in fear bricking my phone trying MIMO Ext4 !!!!!!!!!
I appreciate your swift replies !! I'll probably try this when I get some free time !!

Yeah, I had captivate in my possession yesterday, and this exact method did not work for it. Of course it might would if I could of found the exact firmware for the captivate split into the three odin files, rather than the all in one click exe. But i've returned it since then, so I won't be able to look into that anymore.
I used a program called Universal Extractor to bust open that one-click file, but all it could extract were the non-binary files inside, about 300kb of .xml, .txt and script files, in the META-INF and system directory.
I don't get it.... Why is this a goid thing to move all of your data to your sd... ?
Have you figured out why you don't have data service?
This is good write up. There are some captivate owners looking to do the same. But we don't have the firmware package u have on the vibrant. I am sure someone will come up with it. However, No DATA is a problem. I need data service. I tether alot. I pretty much depend on it.

Its due to the I/O of the internal memory. IIIRC the internal is limited to sequential read/writes, but I guess the external isn't (and neither is nand).

Hello guys,
I'm sorry if this was a repeated question.
But i was wondering how we can change our default installation path on galaxy note?
Because the problem is everytime i download something from google play, its installed in the phone memory which is only around 1,5Gb
What's the use of 11Gb that we had on usb storage then? Can we somehow change the default path to usb storage?
And i don't want to use external SD card. I think that's all, thanks guys! Waiting for your respons!

I've tried that and it refers to the original function of move to sd card from the application settings. And it didn't work it says couldn't move not enough storage space and its because i dont have any sd card insert.
Therefore 11Gb usb storage only useful for extended game data and photo or music?

Using App2SD you can only move some part of an app to the 11GB (called as SD card or internal SD) memory..also, you cant move each & every app, since some apps needs to be on the Phone memory (memory which shows ~2GB)..I am using App2SD to reduce the load on Phone memory..it wl b useful for apps/games, especially which r bigger in size..what I believe is the more you keep the Phone memory free, the more faster your phone will be..

Its really simple ,1st you flash this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=18061 , then you https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24499762635999029 install this trought this new installed recovery , and you now have 6gb memory for installing apps, and 7gb on sdcard0
data=6gb (means +4gb for apps)
sdcard0=~7gb (means -4gb from the stock size)

how is everybody coping with the low storage issue?
i have been reading up on directory bind and also rickywyatt method
i dont plan on unlocking the bootloader but i do plan on rooting
What low storage issue are you talking about?
While most of them are installed on the SD, I have a lot of installed applications (about a hundred) and I still have more than 3Gb available (internal storage).
An SDcard can be used for your pictures/videos/games, up 32Gb (at least).
If you want to root your phone and don't want to unlock your bootloader, then don't upgrade it.
However, depending on the installed firmware, it may be impossible to root without unlocking the bootloader.
Motorola has fixed the root exploit in the last update.

It depends on the application. Some apps put thier "big" files on the sdcard, some won't.
As emu123 said, you can use an app like Apps2sd to move them from the internal to the external storage.
Even if I install a lot of games, I never ran out of storage. That was the case with my old HTC Desire HD.
Big games can use up to 400Mb, I still have more than 3Gb, which means I can install, at least, 7 big games (but some of them will put files on the SDcard if present). It won't ever happen.
EDIT: I think Apps2sd doesn't work with Android 4.x. Not sure, but I think that the system manages where to install apps when internal storage is full.

Hi, I set up a thread (in my signature) specifically for for those of us new to Motorola - I just got my first Moto phone 2 days ago too. You may find the thread helpful - I will update it with any info. that people need.
How do you mean low storage? Internally? 8GB (practically 5GB) is low to you? Compared with what? Most phones in the upper tier of mid-range have 8GB and many top-range phones start with 8GB...it seems perfectly normal to me. Either way, do you have an SD card? I've a 32GB for my music and it's now full...some phones load the SDs so slowly...but NOT thins phone, all of my music is found in seconds. :fingers-crossed:

External storage "swap" for Xperia Z1. that will be safe for z1
So that we can make external SD card react as our internal storage by doing this we can directly downloads every thing on our SD card and can install more HD games.
Usually 1 HD game have 1GB to 1.5 GB Data and 5 to 6 games fill up all 11 GB available Internal storage in our device, but if we exchange our internal storage with our SD card than we can fulfill our requirements by using a 32GB or 64GB Sd card

Right now I am using Gameloft to SD app for moving all my games to SD card
1) First fix your remount reboot error get it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317432
if you did not have recovery then use windows.exe installation method. Rooted device is requied
2) Download GL to SD app from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=en
move your games data
3) After moving data you can play games by this method only
3.1) open GL to SD app
3.2) you will see two button on top right side, first button is mount and second one is for unmount
3.3) press the mount button
3.4) Now click on play button which ever game you like to play
4) after close the Gl to SD app all the folders unmounted, so if you want to play again you have to open GL app again and mount the games.

Swap is normal terminology for offloading the least used data to slower drives. I suspect that the op is asking for a way to use the memory card as internal storage, and vice versa.

Sorry I could be very wrong here, in that case sorry. I thought OP was referring to making a swap partition on the sd-card and using that as swap. I've seen people do this on 'low-RAM' devices to increase multi-tasking a bit. That's why I wondered what he was up to since he has 2 gigs of RAM.

was using that on the XZ but I stopped using it for some reason, don't remember what it was

Hmmm well you could try simlinking your internal storage to your external sd-card, or only do it for specific folders. I never tested this by the way so I have no idea what could happen if you do this, but it's an idea.
Thank you as well by the way!
I am not asking a Ram increase swap mod i am asking for internal storage swap with external storage Mod

Please try to make a mod
External storage "swap" for Xperia Z1. that will be safe for z1
So that we can make external SD card react as our internal storage by doing this we can directly downloads every thing on our SD card and can install more HD games.
Usually 1 HD game have 1GB to 1.5 GB Data and 5 to 6 games fill up all 11 GB available Internal storage in our device, but if we exchange our internal storage with our SD card than we can fulfill our requirements by using a 32GB or 64GB Sd card
I use the Foldermount app along with this little fix.

I tried Folder Mount with that fix, but can't get it to work.
The linked folders will mount, but when launching the moved games, it is asking to download additional files again.
The files from the Install.bat of the fix have correctly installed on my phone as well.
So not sure what is going on.
Can you play moved game successfully on your phone?
