I'm getting 16 hours (moderate use: mostly texting and data) before i feel like i absolutely need to plug in and around 17 hours before it's completely dead. These times vary depending on use (light, moderate, heavy) but so far even with extremely heavy usage i still somehow managed to get 11 solid hours unplugged. I was getting curious about how your batteries were performing.

Almost double after the Gingerbread update. Usually I don't even charge it at night with light use during the day. I would say like 20 hours average
I'm at 7.5 hours down to only 73 percent!!
GINGERVOLTED!
With JuiceDefender, I can go two days without charging.
Even if the only feature you use is turning data / wifi off when you turn the screen off and/or setting background sync to only sync every 5 minutes (instead of perpetually), you'll see a massive increase in battery life. Pretty sure you can do all that with free version, paid versions let you set schedules and other nifty things.

I'm at 86% after 2 hours of really not doing anything. A couple of downloads one or two text messages. I'll see what I'm at at the end of the day. I can't say that my battery life has ever been all that great anyway. We'll see.
I'm sitting at 89% after 3 hours and 40 minutes. 4 phone calls and checking xda several times.

I only get about 12 hours with what I would say is average use.
I am using the extended battery and with fairly heavy use I still still last just about 15 hours. On a slow day, that number goes way way up. I tried Juice Defender, but it took so long so me to use the internet (waiting for the radio to turn back on) that I uninstalled the app, it was just far too annoying.
Today, only using my phone for 4 Instant messages and nothing else, at 5 h46minutes I'm at 29%. That is not very good at all.
I wiped everything, re-installed GV 1.3 hoping the lower battery life was a fluke last time but no luck. Over the past few days I still only average around 12 hours. Not really sure what changed from 1.2 to 1.3, I seem to get slightly better performance but at the cost of 5 hours of use. Probably going back to 1.2 till I figure out whats happening...

Even if you don't use your phone, it's constantly synching in the background to check for new emails/facebook messages/and whatever other apps you have installed that check for updates in the background.
Enter JuiceDefender. You can set it to turn off your wifi/data when you turn the screen off, only turning on when you turn the screen on or ever 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes to allow autosync to fetch updates, instead of letting it run every second of every day. Paid versions will allow you to set Peak, Night, and/or Weekend schedules so if you need more frequent updates while you're at work, you can automate that process.
I swear I don't work for JuiceDefender...I just love their app.

Over the last year + I have tried JuiceDefender, I've even paid for it, but I can never get it to work, let alone save any battery life.
I'm getting a solid 12 hours out of mine running Gingervolt with light to moderate usage with 4G on the whole time. I have noticed a huge increase from fryo when I was struggling to get even 7 hours to gingerbread where I was getting about 9-10 hours and an even bigger increase form gingerbread to Gingervolt.

I need to state a disclaimer after doing all that repping...It seems JD (including Beta version) does not place nicely with Gingercrumpets...err bread. And it will cause your 3G/4G to start ****ting all over itself. I'm going to start tinkering around and see if I can come up with a settings scheme that provides for some increased battery life without ****ing anything up. If I achieve this, I'll post the settings backup here.
I was getting crap on my battery life.
8 hours on a full charge at most.
I installed Juice Defender, and while I haven't hit the foible that others have been having problems with, I can honestly say that I am glad I did.
I've gone from the 8 hours draining the battery to a 1d 5h, 58% battery usage.
(Battery had 42% left on it when I plugged it back in.)
I'm quite chuffed at this.

hi guys im running firebird rom and my battery life sucks really bad. i take it out of charge at 10am and it dies around 4.30pm so does kernel makes battery life bad?
my kernel says : 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #28
please share
Depends. Some kernels are overclocked and will use more battery. Some are poorly put together and will use more battery. Some may not work well with one ROM, but great with another. Not knowing what you do with your phone it is hard to point a finger at the kernel. Poor reception, lots of wifi on time, lots of screen on time, GPS use, push e-mail...lots of things take battery. You need to see what it is you're using and whether that and not the kernel is your issue.
Short answer is yes, kernel affects the battery. All you can do is try a few different ones and see which is best for your usage.
im on messenger services and about 40-50 text and 3 mins of calls and my 3g on and brightness all the way down. no gps no bluetooth or wifi. i use the phone pretty much straight from 10am with maybe 2 mins here and there screen off

Well, what more do you want? With that kind of usage I doubt you can do much better with any ROM.
that kinda sux but if the screen is really on that much it is normal, i dont think any rom has been tested to surpass 6 hours screen on time.
one good rom was andromda with which i had a hard time running my battery down in a single day, usually went 2 without a problem and i do a lot of texting. also an old version of perception built off a bell vibrant i9000m rom was outstanding.
kernels affect battery life but clock speed on the cpu has less to do with it than many people think, the assumption is faster cpu speeds means more power drawn but the cpu is governed, the governor setting have a lot to do with it. think about it, is it better for the cpu to take 4 seconds on an operation @ 600mhz or do the same operation in 2 seconds @1.2ghz? depends on alot of things reallly but thew difference is alot smaller than people expect. there is also kernelhz which i dont know much about but reportedly if set down to 100 to match another frequency(cant remember off the top of my head) will increase battery life.
the kernel controls many aspects of the system but i haven't seen a kernel that has had a huge increase in battery life given the same rom since the 2.1 days. and even then the battery life wasnt as good as a couple of the 2.2 roms. it seems to me that the rom has more to do with battery life. some vibrant ports have severe battery drain issues on the captivate. some i9000 ports have amazing batery life but most are about the same as stock to slightly better.
if battery life is a problem first you want to see if any processes keep the phone from sleeping. figure out what apps show in the running process list and try killing them, if they don't die/they start back up then freeze them in titanium backup and see if anything makes a difference. careful freezing system processes, some are not detrimental, most are.
other tips are to try apps that manage 3g like juice defender. and use wifi when you can 3g is a bigger battery hog than wifi. also there may be a way to set the phone to default to edge instead of 3g but i think it varies with the build of the rom, you will have to research that one.
other things to look at is weather you sync to google, facebook, twitter ect. those feeds widgets can eat battery as well as the sync process. weather widgets like beautiful widgets seem to have an effect on some of the vibrant ports i used but not as noticable on other roms.
Yikes...that is some awful battery life. I'm surprised because speedmod (and it's variants) is pretty well accepted as being the best kernel for battery life. There are many threads around here for improving battery life. I have personally found that my biggest battery user was constantly checking how much battery I had used.
If you are barely turning your screen off that is good battery life. You will never make it much past 5hrs screen time. Where people get like 40hrs on a charge is when the phone its not actually used, and their set up has good standby performance
CM7
When I used assonance I would get three days of battery life.
Sent using smoke signals.
As some have said screen time is the single biggest battery user. My phone will last for about 3 hours of screen on time. So I could have my phone die in 3 hours, or 2 days, it all depends on how often I'm turning that screen on.

((Please leave out any discussions about the "dangers" of updating in this thread))
So I updated via the leaked OTA 3 days ago and all is well so far. My battery has definitely improved by two fold (doubled). Prior to update my D3 would only go about half a day on light usage. Now it goes past 24 hours easy and could most likely push 36 hours (light use, wifi on 24/7).
However today I actually have been using my device quite a bit. Nothing heavy, really just organizing home screens and other duties of the sort.
So I look into my battery usage and after 6 hours my battery is at 40-50% with the display consuming a large amount of the battery. Brightness is at Automatic and the display itself has been on for 3 hours while using 50% of the battery. Is this normal or should % usage be more dispered between the running programs? I imagine the way battery usage stats work is that there will always be a program at the top with 40-50%... but maybe im (dead) wrong?
Also, how has your battery been since update?
(TL; DR) Display is raping my battery post-update, sup?

Edit: Dunno why the pics came out blurry, its fine in my system. Btw im using the (official) extended battery
Divide by zero, I dare you...
...Battery just hit 5% after 8 hours and 4 hours of display on. It unbelievably dropped from 15% to 5% with no brightness in less than a half hour, oh and I was in airplane mode. Literally all I've been doing since I turned my phone on today is have music playing and tweak my homescreen settings.
On standby the battery kicks ass but wow if I actually want to use my phone, the battery is as good as dead.
Im going to try out the standard battery that came with my D3 tomorrow and see if I get better results. Maybe its just my extended battery that's faulty.
If that fails then there has to be something wrong with the way my display draws juice from the battery... and ill probably have to get a replacement ... fml ... those crappy refurbed phones.
Divide by zero, I dare you...
Battery life for me is mostly improved. I say mostly because in weak coverage areas this thing destroys battery life fast! 20% or more per hour kind of fast. Still better than stock, but not much in weak coverage.
Strong coverage areas, phone is much improved for battery life. Seems to be a baseband issue. Hint hint Moto.
What I have noticed the most, is that my data roaming enabled setting actually sticks now, even if i lose coverage. For me, that was one of the biggest things against this phone. It made my data so impossible to stay connected, it almost wasn't woth having.
I too have the official Moto extended battery, but i still struggle to get 24 hours out of my device with very mild usage. For example, i am at 15 hours now, no wi-fi usage, no bluetooth usage, both off, cdma mode only and display on time of 23 minutes total for that time. I'm now at 15%.
My other phones, 2 Eris, and 1 Inc2, get anywhere from 2.5-4 days on this kind of use. I am thinking about ditching this battery monger for an Inc2 until Moto gets their shnizit together, or CM7 is available via a custom recovery and unlocked bootloader.
I am loving having my data available without needing to recheck the data roaming box 100 times a day, and other fixes. I am glad i used the leaked update, as my phone was close to a brick without it anyhow.
Now all we need is the new soak test update to ensure we're official...my gut tells me we are.
Anyone else having issues with Swype predicting in Spanish after the leaked update was applied? Only happens in one app for me, so far.

Yes.
The battery stats (system reported percentage) appear unchanged, it's just the rendering of the stock icon that seems to be different.
*EDIT*
I use Battery Circle, as it reports in increments of 1%. I'm sure there are others.
Post-update, my battery usage has been noticeably improved. Before updating, it seemed that my battery drained at about the same rate regardless of how much or how little I actually used the phone (excepting major battery hogs, like fancy games or navigation). Now, the drop, when not being used, is significantly slower compared to before. Battery drain when actually using the phone seems about the same. So, overall, I'd say the processes like phone idle and cell standby have been optimized to great success.
-SR-
PS: "Display" now consistently lands at the top of the usage list, as is to be expected, and is much more believable than before the update.

Hi all
My phone was in for repairs recently. I got it back on the 8th (April 2012) and so I flashed the Vulnerable Recovery sbf and restored my CM7 backup I made the day it went in for repairs. Now, it's been a month, and I'm not sure what it used to be like, but my battery can't even last a day.
Currently I'm sitting on 92% and and took it off charge exactly an hour ago...and since I'm typing on my phone right now, by the time I'm done, it will probably be 90%.
Yesterday, with minimal use, my phone, after 12 hours unplugged, was on 17%.
Should I be concerned? I'm using CM7.1.5.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
actually dude... i also noticed that as well.. cm7 really drains the battery quick...
I need to know what you all are experiencing. It's just a few minutes shy of 12 hours since I unplugged. And apart from two 1 minute calls and updating 4 apps on the market, I barely used the phone (only checked this thread about 4 times on the XDA app). It's now at 14%. It's a bit worrying, because I'm still on my way home, and it's almost like I can't manage a day at work without needing to charge. And I don't carry a charger or USB cable around most of the time.
Please give me your inputs. I know this is a fairly common problem to hear about, but I'm sure my CM7 experience could be better. Ps, I have calibrated the battery. Mostly keep EDGE on instead of 3G if I'm not really using it. Also, never have the GPS on, nor WiFi, nor Bluetooth.

The milestone never got a good battery life. Since my gf had it new, she cant make a day. (she's not a "phone" girl, she use it for txt/call, thats it).
Around 25%, you have about 3 hours on sleep. if I use it, it will drop to 0 very fast.
The phose is a year and half old, 2 battery rotation and froyomod 2.9.3 rom.
And for the same time of use, my desire z can last 2 and a half easy.
I have a mugen 1700 battery (same size as the original one but 20% more power) and I can use my phone for 24 hours without charging (even if I usually charge it during night even if not completely discharged) .
I use 3g with toggle2g enabled, Facebook, whatsapp and other common apps and Widgets, I have autosync fully enabled, and I play games do less than one hour per day.
Maybe you should try a different battery

um, what?
My phone is now one year old with stock battery. It's has a decent battery life, with toggle2g enabled, full autosync with Facebook, Path, Twitter, Whatsapp, Google+, Dropbox, Gmail, I get about 12 hours with moderate usage.
Brightness is fixed at max.
But it is unstable. Some days my battery will last for 12 hours, some days it's at 15% in 5 hours.
I dunno if it is CM7, but sometimes the phone has dificulties in syncing and it does get really hot.
To me, the stock battery is too hot, and keeps discharging faster the more hot gets. My mugen never gets that hot, and never fluctuates that much in duration

Oh yeah, I notice that too. when you use the phone, maybe 5 minutes later, the phone is hot.
One other thing, the milestone can charge 20% to 100% in an hour. its really fast, and its not very good for a lithium battery since it comes very hot.
what are your average charging time?

I would assume this isn't your daily phone anymore? You have no usage by texting or calls. Sure, you got 5 days standby time, but that's literally on an unused phone.

actually, you should leave it a bit more in charging state, to avoid internal counter fail. That said, yes, the battery is rather fast in charging. I really suggest you the mugen battery, that's fast in charging but slow in discharging
Hmm, going through all of this, my usage doesn't seem too different to you guys. Maybe I should just get used to it. I actually did buy a spare battery off eBay - but it's just another BP6X battery. I think I will try this mugen battery.

Hello d.casper.b. I upgraded to CM7.1.5 (from stock Eclair) in Jan 2012. Since then I have a bit better batt life. Standard battery. I unplugged my phone yesterday (Sunday 15th Apr 2012) at about 12:30 - 1:00 pm. It's now Monday 3:10pm and I'm at 50%. My wifi is on all the time, except I turn it off when I go to bed so it don't wake me up with email or whatsapp messages. I don't have sync on and my phone is not on a data service. I have only used it for some light browsing since unplugged. No music or streaming data. No screensavers. Auto-brightness. I will use the bluetooth when driving home from work. That said - I typically get 24 hours+ on a full charge - except if I do some youtube or other streaming stuff.
That said - I don't think the ROM is the issue. You should try a battery calibration. Also - when it gets to 100% charge, leave it for at least 15-30 mins more plugged in.
Please stop suggesting battery calibrations. I really don't think anyone has a clue what they're talking about when they suggest it.
What you all call "battery calibrations" doesn't do anything other than make Android forget how the battery has been used -- that means the USAGE STATS. It can take a few charge/drain cycles before the battery meter reads true after that. It doesn't do a damn thing to your battery life.
destruct2k sorry - but no need to get hot under the collar about it. But in a sense - you have a point about the batt cal. It's been suggested on other threads - but I've never tried it - and so I shouldn't be recommending it to anyone. I only repeated what others had suggested some time back. Peace.
Anil - You're right, I overreacted there, but not too long ago I saw a 3-page article posted on Google+ by a woman that works on Android for a living about how "stupid" (her word, not mine) the concept was that deleting a file in software could somehow affect the battery's ability to hold a charge. Ever since that read, my opinion on "calibration" has changed significantly. If I could only find that article...
I have the same issue. And it's kinda strange because it's only comin up with CM 7.2
The worst battery life was 30 minutes. I charged it to 100% and I went for a walk before I went to my dance class to teach and after 30 minutes it's drained from 100 to 13% and I did nothing just listening to music. Weird. And when I charge my battery it's like going to 20% like in 5 mins and then 2 mins later it's on 60% and then 40 minutes later it's charged...I'm tryna find a solution for it cos it's soooo frustrating and I don't wanna change my phone til Milestone 4 is coming out!
Have new Sprint HTC One and when first using it out of the box, battery life seemed to be real good.
Mods I have made.. Unlocked and am running OMJ's custom ROM.
Here is what I am questioning now.. (my 14 days are almost up):
I leave it charge all night and first thing in the morning, I use it for 15-20 minutes catching up on mail, facebook and news. I am connected to wifi in the home. What I am experiencing is a 6% battery drain from this pretty consistently and display on auto brightness in a dark room in the morning. Last night I set power saver to including cpu, diaplay and data connection. I had the display set dimmer than normal/what the auto brightness would be. I experienced the same 6% drop this morning.
I am not sure what to think, its kind of disconcerting to think you wack 6% of battery before the first cup of coffee.
I have no data, but am wondering if anyone has see lesser batter just from unlocking?
OMJ's ROM is pretty stock, so I would not think that is causing any issues.
I am looking to see what others are experiencing from there initial 15-20 minute usage.
I am open to any input that could help me conclude that there is not an issue with the phone so I can stop worrying about meeting the 14 day return deadline.
Edit: Adding images and info to attempt to create a baseline for others to compare to. Images are from GSam Battery Monitor available in the market.
The images show 30 minutes of use after unplugging from a full charge, Power Saver off, Brightness set to Dim and using WiFi. Screen using 18% and Apps using 75%... you can also see the specific apps being used.
It would be great if others could mimic and provide their results. This would allow us all to have something to compare to.
it could just be the battery technology. i know with some laptops here at work they dont really "fully charge" the battery to increase the battery life span. so this could be a normal thing. For me personally im more concerned about the phone lasting atleast through the whole day before i have to charge it.

Yea I mean I'm not sure how much you use your phone a day but I'm seeing consistently approx 4-4.5 hrs of screen on time a day. Unplug the phone at 7am and plug it in when I got to bed usually around 11pm. Some days if I'm watching a lot of video or playing games I'll have to plug it in around 8pm or so but that isn't too often

Anyone want to do a small comparison test?
Set brightness to auto, charge to 100% and then use for 15 minutes checking mail, Facebook, web surfing, or whatever (simple activity, not gaming), in normal ambient room lighting, using WiFi, Power Saver off. Then report your battery level after the 15 min.

I would lose around 10% from that. I think.
You should calibrate your battery any time you flash a new Rom, so why not try the app I suggested?

Oh, I am all over that. Did the calibration yesterday. I have not noticed a significant difference, but I do agree this is a needed step. Especially when changing between significantly different ROMs. Thanks for pointing it out.
What I am really looking for from others are some comparison results. I have created some pictures this morning and will be adding them to my post, in an attempt to create a baseline that others can use to do the exact same and provide a result. This should allow others and myself to see if there is any significant difference between our devices.
I edited my post with baseline settings and images.
Would be great if others could mimic and post results.

Hehe Sorry when I read my post it seems kind of snappy and nothing about your reply led me to this conclusion. I understand your looking for a comparison and I think its safe to say I easily use 5-10% of my battery life first thing when I get up and check all of my stuff.

How do you have a extremely low awake time, and your kernel usage is only 0.9%? My unrooted stock kernel runs from 20%-35% at any given time.

I use autostarts from playstore to prevent certain apps from starting and running in the background, unless I need them to. Here's another screen shot of around 19 min reading xda and around 40 min listening to the music.

Does anybody know if limiting background processes to zero will help battery life? My phone had 1hr 20min awake times with 12 mins screentime/usage after 8-9 hours.
This was with absolutely no power saving at all, whatsoever. Phone was around 75% after those 9 hrs I believe, with kernel taking 33%, and radio taking ~15. Fresh after factory reset. Only apps were Email, Doodlejump, GSAM, ES, Keep and Swiftkey.
Tomorrow I will turn off auto sync, limit background processes, and turn on power saver/sleep mode. Let's see how much that helps.
Here's what in doing most of the drain comes from having only 1 bar in my new dorm

I still need to download GSAM, but I've noticed this over the last couple days. I also have the Gear 2 Neo but I don't think it's causing the battery drain...

A lot of different variables to consider here...same old battery life complaint. Answer, it depends on the operator.

Same
I have the same issue here. The phone had about 30% battery before I went to sleep... Woke up with 1%.
40% is used by Android OS
20% by the Android system
7% by the Screen
The last 2 days mine has been decent, today has been terrible with really high Android System usage.

I should have been more specific, but this is with what I would call "general use". No video watching, gaming, streaming, which, IMO are the real battery killers. It doesn't seem right that you would lose 33% of the battery in that amount of time from a full overnight charge.

All true, but was your bluetooth connected? Wifi signal, cell signal, all the regular shizzle... How does it look for 4 hours of general use with the Gear disconnected?

Android System is definitely higher than on my S4, but I don't think it's actually drain, something has to use that 24 of the 100%. I'm getting very good life with about 6 hours screen-on.
That said, it would be good to know exactly what's behind it being so high.
I've also noticed more wakeclocks than normal. I thought it was Google Now but I disabled background data for it and it didn't seem to change anything.
We've gotta get root so we can really fine tune things.

Strange i think its something youre doing. I power use all day from 530 am to 10 pm and i still have 25% before bed
I'm getting incredible battery life out of my S5 so far. Yesterday I checked last night and was at 33%, that's with being off the charger almost 14 hours (like 14hr 51min something like that), on screen time of 4 hours browsing with multiple tabs etc (no games), email, about 30 minutes of phone calls, couple text, and streaming music at the gym for an hour. Today I'm at 72% @ 8hr 31min off charger with streaming music about 2 hours (truck and gym), 45min on screen time, only a couple quick calls. I have GPS etc on, only thing I changed and I always do with Android, is set wifi to stay on in sleep only when plugged in, not sure if they fixed wifi bug Android has always had causing tons of wakelocks in sleep mode.

I'm not sure what I could be doing that drains the battery that much, but I'm not ruling out the watch either... Besides if it was something I'm doing, wouldn't that reflect in the battery usage?

Well, the gear 2 is connected all the time... But I had the first gear and that wasn't an issue. I'll have to see in the morning if it makes a difference. I'm on wifi 99% of the time. I have a Tab Pro 12.2 that's on wifi all the time and that thing is only down to like.. 70% after 2 days of light usage with a bluetooth keyboard connected. The battery seemed great a couple days ago and I haven't changed anything... I've actually done more.. used Google Navigation mostly...

Give it a charge cycle at least.
However, I just noticed something that is really REAALLY messing with my head. I was just looking at my battery stats again and my phone is telling me it's been on battery for 4 hours 51m. It's 4pm here and i've been unplugged since 6am this morning. My earlier post show's 5 hours even! What gives??? The phone has rebooted once today manually. I just restarted again and can confirm that GSAM resets to zero (whatever), but the issue that's really messing with me is that the system battery and uptime shows 4 hours. WTF?! I'm seriously confused.
Something is fishy here...
I'm gonna let the battery drain completely this time...
Well I've had awesome life since I got the phone last Thursday, like I posted on the 1st page, except for last night. Did nothing different from before, no new apps or anything, I disabled sammy and at&t stuff earlier but the phone was fine after that. I went to bed and it was at 34% and woke up 7-8 hours later to a dead phone. No clue what could have caused that as the past week drain even in standby mode was phenomenal, have to install BBS.
Other night I went to bed and it only drained like 5% in the same time
I fully discharged the battery and it seems better now. But when I plugged back in, I noticed that the app called IM+ was running in the background in push mode... I'm not sure if that was causing the problem but it is much better now over the last couple of days
I had a horrible wakelock today, Directv geniego was running for 6.5 hours. Battery life has been great up till today.
