SD Card issues - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hey guys,
So I have been having issues with my sd card. So I have apps installed on the card and a ringtone on it. Everything works fine till I plug it into my computer and the bionic dismounts it. After I unplug it from computer all the apps and ringtone disappear, but I can see them on the sd card when I look at the card using a file manager (like astro). Anyone else have this problem? Its kind of annoying. Also sometimes the ringtone will work after the phone remounts it but apps don't.
Thanks for the help
Mithu

Put apps and ringtones on internal SD card and Bionic will reliably find them.External SD not used well by Bionic until Ice cream OS. Ok for media but apps and ringtones need to be on internal SD.

[Q] Having to format SD card constantly

I've been getting the "Blank External SD card. SD card blank or has unsupported file system." message every time I restart my phone since the day I purchased it. The only way for me to get the message to go away is by letting my phone format the external SD card, but even after doing this I am unable to create any folders on my external. It gives me the "creation failed" error message. My current SD card is a 4gig HC SD card. I used it in my HTC Tilt2 before I bought my captivate and never had an issue. (I actually ended up losing everything I had on it when I put it in my captivate because of this issue) Does anyone know how I can fix this so that my external sd card will actually work and stop requiring me to format it?
I had tried searching the forum for anything on this but only found items relating to 3rd party roms.

Have you ever formatted it on your PC? i know that it can cause problems if you choose the incorrect format type.
No, I've only ever had it in my tilt 2 or my captivate.

Have you tried a different SD card? Sounds like you have a faulty one. There are no settings in the Captivate that require a reformat for anything. I know this sucks, but I can't think of anything else.
Unfortunately I don't have another card to try though I haven't tried it again in my tilt 2..

Try it again in your Tilt. I am willing to bet it will not work. If true, stick it in your PC, format with the NTFS file system and use it as a ready boost tool. That way it is not a complete waste.
Ready boost with a micro SD is not advisable. It will be the same as nothing..

Would you rather have a wasted 4 gig SD or use the 4 gig towards ready boost? I never said it was going to do much, but to some people a little is a lot.

So I tried another sd card and my phone didn't even recognize it, even after a reboot. I'm guessing it's time to call up at&t?

SDcard woes

Droid Bionic rooted/unrooted doesn't matter. Any app I move to the SD card ends up showing up like I've unmounted the SDCard. If I mount it to my pc then unmount this happens immediately. If I just move an app from my phone to my SD card this happens within 24hrs. Suggestions?
Are you checking in mnt/sdcard-ext or mnt/sdcard? I know for this device anything you put on the external sdcard shows up on sdcard-ext and the internal storage shows on sdcard.
I'm not looking anywhere, I'm either rebooting or remounting my SD card after use on my pc and any app I've moved to "media area" are gone. I see alot of people are having this issue in other forums too.
Are you using the stock sd card or one of your own from a previous device? You may need to reformat the card if it is the latter.
MOTO did something strange with Bionic that it see what we call sdcard as sdcard-ex, and it doesn't let users to transfer apps to it (media card) anymore. The second you move apps to sdcard, the apps are gone, and you need to reinstall them. The 16gb sdcard came with the Bionic only acts as media (photos and videos) storage.

This is not limited to the Bionic. The Droid X2 has this same storage system and it is a pain. Navenedrob had created a program that would flip flop the storage system for the X2, but it does not work for the Bionic.

Music Files on SD Card

Hello all,
I have recently copied 8 gigs worth of music onto my SD card. What I am seeing is that the files are magically starting to disappear, and my LOST.DIR is starting to grow.
Why is this happening only to my music files, and how do I get this to stop. I understand LOST.DIR is for files that are considered corrupt if an abrupt change in status of the SD card is detected, but why only the music files? I have photos and other files on the SD card also? Is this a pre-cursor to a bad SD card?
Thanks,
Steve
I have had the same issues, I tried everything under the sun but still no luck...

In speaking with some folks over at the Moto forum this might be a result of one of two reasons:
1) Your SD card is going bad??
2) Your SD card might be too fast for the D3.
I personally have a class 6 SD card that was giving me issues. I am testing with a class 2 card to determine if this is the case. I will post results.

[Q] Anyone else having and issues with the sd card with the new update?

Just upgraded my vivid to 4.0 and loving it. completely stock and everything (problem with a driver on my computer and can't connect). After it all got done doing its thing it gave me a notification that my sd card was removed. so i turned it off and removed the battery to find that my sd card was still tightly in the slot. so i removed it and placed it firmly back in and turned on my phone. after a few minutes it did it again and now in the storage settings it says the sd card is unavailable. I'm kind of annoyed because that's where all my music and what not is but it still plays the music stored on there through the music player. I don't know whats going on and i just wanted to see if it was just me or others had the same issue
thanks for your time!!

ive seen this before with the infuse...
the only thing i can think of is get one of those sd card adapters and check it with your comp...if you dont find a problem with it connecting with the comp..i would make a back up and format and see if that works. thats how i fixed it for my buddy on his infuse. or maybe try another sd card to see if your phone is the culprit...good luck
Gotta be your sdcard, I've connected mine to pc and had no issues. Remove it and put it again, or find an adapter for it and try again.
Otherwise pretty impressed with the new ics update!

I had a similar issue. After the ICS update, I was flipping through my home screens to see what was different and noticed that my Photo Album widget was not displaying my photos. Come to find out, it couldn't read the SD card. I looked in SETTINGS/STORAGE and noticed that the SD card was not mounted. I mounted it and VIOLA, all of my photos were there again. I have rebooted several times and the SD card has remounted like normal.
Thanks for the help I just backed up my sd card and erased it and now it recognises it

Thanks for the tip to mount the SD card. It pays to search the forum.
I think there is a problem with ICS and the external SD card. Twice recently, my SD card would not show up. I took some pictures, not realizing they were being stored on the internal storage rather than the SD card.
Mounting the drive from Settings works, but it should not be necessary.

Location of SD Card

Hi guys, can't find this anywhere and it's driving me mad.
I've just added a 64gb micro sd to my Note. I'm trying to set up Spotify so that it syncs offline tracks to my micro sd. What is the location of my micro sd? It comes up with mnt/sdcard but it still seems to be saving to my phone rather than the sd?
Thanks in advance.
on mine its something like mnt/sdcard/external_sd
Prettty much this.

On my stock, root is generally hidden from me, so I start with /sdcard/ using the file explorer the /sdcard/external_sd/ has a different icon to the other files, making it easily identifiable.
I would check to make sure that the 64gb SD Card is supported by the note, I know in the past 32GB has been the limit, but I'm a new note user and only dumped a 16GB one into mine that works fine.
You need to format a 64gb card IN the phone before using it.
