I have a sprint galaxy tab and am so lost on rooting it. I've rooted several evo 4g's,(cm7) and a nook color(cm7). But this sgt really has my tit in a ringer. I've downloaded and ran the superoneclick but it wont grab. I'm a chef...... Not that advanced with tecnology but enough to root, flash every rom, kernel, theme, etc with my evo and nook color. I'm not a dope with android but this one has me spinning. Need to flash any rom, kernel, theme etc with my evo or nook color.... You got it but my sprint galaxy tab is has me looking at my pc like a dope! Once I get rooted and cwm there is no stopping me (I'm a flashaholic) but dam this sprint galaxy tab has me tredding water. Any pointers for a dopey chef would help.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

I used Superoneclick with no problem. Did you follow the directions step by step? Maybe you need to install some sort of driver.
Good luck!

I had no issues with mine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14036052&postcount=4 ... SuperOneClick can get it here http://shortfuse.org/?p=13 and make sure before you connect that you have USB debugging selected, then once that's done just click root and few moments later happy days!
If you can tell me the steps your following then can see whats happening and where your going wrong.
Let me give it another whirl and I'll tell ya step by step. Just woke up and have to go to work so it may be a few.

You will have to flash your stock rom. It's available here on xda. I recommend using a windows 7 pc and a program called odin3 1.7. Don't worry too much, there's lots of insructions. Read everything twice.
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum cause I'm using htc. I bought recently sgs for my girlfriend trying to convince that iPhone is not that great. I've updated to gingerbread threw kies and it started to reboot and freeze by itself. Is there any way to solve this problem or shall I flash a different software. I need sgs users opinion which firmware is the most stable or how to solve the reboot thing
Thanks a lot

Personally I was a noob on SGS cause I was on HTC too.. If you go on to youtube, theres a guy called 'androidgalaxys' on his videos he shows how to update to 2.3.4 its the official update too and that is very very stable and very fast. The file you download uses odin to flash.. He talks you through it. I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your help. Maybe you know what is causing those random reboots and freezes as far as I know people have them on many different firmwares. But if you recommend I'll try it.

Im afraid I dont. If you message that guy on youtube. He is very knowledgeable.

I'm new to the captivate. But not to the Galaxy S series. But I'm running mine on a rooted 2.1. And ROM Manager doesn't like work. I've tried everything. Trying to get CM7 on this beast but can't get no recovery. Even tried on 2.2. Still nothing. is there a .zip recovery that goes by update.zip and I'm back to stock 2.1. Help

Yes, I suggest you find a guide that one of your modorators has put their time into to help people like you. Please next time look a little harder and read.

Of course. Rooting is the first step to make any modifications to your phone. What stock version are you currently on?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
I can't say you need to be rooted, but it is needed for certain backup utilities like Titanium Backup. Otherwise, all you need is CWM

I suppose I misspoke. Root is not required, but is greatly helpful, and I'd suggest obtaining it first.

I would say , root is highly recommended. But I think I seen a tutorial somewhere about flashing clockworkmod recovery on a stock unrooted captivate, or flashing a modded 3e Recovery to flash unsigned zip packages. I will try to find the link for you. But to backup all your apps and data, you will need root.

There are methods to root gingerbread, but they tend to be more involved then earlier versions of android. I correct my earlier statement that root is necessary. I'd highly suggest it if you want to back up apps etc, but it isn't required. I'd suggest downgrading to 2.1 or 2.2 and use the superoneclick utility. Supposedly this tool works on gingerbread but I haven't had any luck with it.

The easiest way is probably to flash Corn kernel, because you get the option to root in CWM. And you will have corn kernel, so it will also be easy to flash from there
Sent from my CM9 ICS i897 Captivate
If you want to flash a custom roms, flash back to stock, then flash a custom kernel via Odin, reboot to system, put the rom on root of sd card, reboot to cwm, do a nandroid backup, wipe data/factory reset, then flash zip from sd card. That's the basic of flashing. Search around in the captivate section and you will find your answers. There are so many topics about flashing roms. Most of the time the rom dev, posts detailed instructions on flashing his/hers rom from start to finish.
Almost every custom rom comes pre-rooted. No need to root once you flash the custom rom.
Also, if you want to save your contacts, you should do so before you flash back to stock, or before you flash the custom rom. If you want to backup all of your apps, then you will need to be rooted, and have titanium backup installed from the market.
