Ok so i have a few questions:
What cases are you people using?
is there a way to help with the lag on the fire gen 2?
In the apex launcher how do i get to my books?
Is there a better launcher?
does this seem complete? it is the framework-res.apk i just want to make sure cause i added in photos and such for the lock screen. wanted to make sure nothing was accidentally deleted
One more question to add: what is the best video app for putting your personal videos on the fire?
For Access to your books you have to remove(move) Kindle App from /system/app and install kindle app from play store.

I'm not sure what happened exactly, but I have Kindle Books still available via original carousel launcher after rooting and installing Google Play services. I remember losing access to books and magazines when I rooted the first time (8.1.13) and installed Google Play services.
When I lost root with the forced 8.1.14 update, I rerooted, did a factory reset, deregistered, re-registered...and then I somehow had access to books and mags again, without having to install the Kindle app, all while retaining ability to use Google Play Services.
If someone wants to try to reproduce my results, those are the only steps I remember doing.
I can still access my books from the original carousel as well but its in the apex launcher i have issues
There are quite a few Kindle apps that reside in the system folder which I do not use not does my device. Although they run on startup and stay running, I'm convinced most are not needed nor need to be running.
Does anyone have a list of apps which can be removed without causing damage?

I've frozen the following (not removed) with no side effects. I'm sure there's more though:
Amazon
Amazon GameCircle
Amazon Kindle
Amazon MP3
Amazon Video
Exchange Services
Kindle Setup
Kindle Tutorial
KindleStoreWebApp

Awesome, thanks.
Did freezing them increase your boot-time at all? Or any increase in performance?
EDIT: Is it also possible to freeze the original kindle home launcher? Noticed that runs as well

I've rooted and put a new launcher on my Kindle Fire HD 7' and have gotten the Kindle App to work by placing it in the system/apps folder just fine. I can read my books and my library is in tact, however I can't seem to use my Prime Lending properly. There are books I've looked up on Amazon.com and it says it's available for the free Kindle lending program w/Prime, but am not sure how to utilize that with a rooted KFTT using the Apex Launcher, stock OS, and the Kindle App (from Google Play). Any suggestions?

Just rooting and adding Google Play will not effect things. When you put the custom launcher on your tablet, you hid the availability to use the Prime lending library. The reason is because you have to access this through your tablet to be able to borrow. You will have to remove the current launcher or switch to the stock launcher and enter the lending library from there.
As most folks know (at least if you're an Amazon Prime member) The Amazon Instant Video App does not work with most Android Tablets (except, of course, the Kindle Fire). Well, it works fine on my new Galaxy Tab S (SM-T800) that I just purchased today. (At least I can verify that it runs on the stock ROM, build KOT49H.T800XXU1ANJ6 - Oct 24, 2014) All you have to do is download the two Apps below and install them. No other alterations are necessary and no Flash conflicts appeared. Neither of these Apps are available from the Google Play Store.
Here are the simple instructions to get Amazon Instant Video working....
1. If you have already installed the Amazon Shopping app (the one without "Amazon Instant Video" on the menu), first uninstall it. The version below has a menu that links to the the Amazon video add-on.
2. Download these two apps from "The Digital Reader" site, and install them...
Amazon Shopping
Amazon Instant Video
3. Open the Shopping app, log into your Amazon account, and then click on the menu icon in the upper left corner. Then select "Amazon Instant Video". That's all there is to it.

WORKED PERFECTLY! Thanks you so much. Just called Amazon last week about this issue after I purchased my table from Sprint. They told me it was nothing they could do. It was a Samsung issue. Then I called again they said they didnt support the GTS
Thanks very much Robin!
Works a treat here in the UK.
Is there a way to download the prime videos? On my kindle I could download 4-5 shows and watch them later. On the tab s, I can't seem to find this feature.
I thought the idea behind Prime instant video was that you stream videos for free if you're an Amazon Prime member. There doesn't seem to be a way to DL them unless you buy or rent the video. I didn't know you could do that on the Kindle.

On the Kindle certain shows can be downloaded for offline availability.
Adding offline ability would be great

Thanks!
Robin you are THE MAN!!! Worked perfectly on my retarded Fujitsu M532. The only reason ama-a-zon chooses not fix this or redo their files/apps must be because they don't want it to work for people. That sucks.
FINALLY, prime instant video on my Tab S 10.5! thanks
Just a quick note on this. I just went through it. If you have the amazon shopping app for tablets installed from the play store, you will go around in circles trying to get it to work. What clicked for me was the reference to phones only in the amazon documentation. The play store will not show the amazon shopping app for phones if you have a tablet. The key is to first uninstall the shopping app for tablets then load the amazon app store then load the shopping app for the phone and the instant video app from the amazon app store. Then it all works. I am guessing if I loaded the apks here in post 1 it would do the same.
FYI, YMMV
Sadly the app crashes on the lollipop rom. App install fine but once start playing a movie the player crash. Hopefully there will be a lollipop version out :victory:
To the OP thanks for posting the apk links
Worked on my rooted stock Tab Pro 8.4
Thanks, I have been trying to get this to work for 2 weeks. This solution worked!
Thanks much. I also have it working on a SM-T707V but can not download my purchased movies on Amazon Instant video like I can do on my Kindle Fire HD.
Anyone find a source that can do that?
I was playing them with dolphin browser and the flash apk. Worked fine. So does this app but I think quality is a bit better with flash and dolphin
If you have a rooted phone, you can just make a backup and install the amazon phone app beside the tablet app. The instant video app will then start working.
Awesome. Thanks for its tip!
You are welcome.

This works well, for those of us that don't want to remove any apps and whatnot, I simply added the amazon app from the app store, while still having the tablet one enabled and then instant video started working
Regarding the Amazon appstore itself - how to get it first
Sorry for the slightly off-topic swerve.
Brand new Galaxy Tab S 8.4 owner. I've tried installing 2 different version of the appstore apk that I have from other Android devices with no success - keep getting prompted to enter a valid email and password (which are definitely correct because they do work with regular Amazon site via Chrome). Installing the tablet shopping app from Google Play didn't give me an option for the appstore.
So -- how do I install the appstore itself? I have a bunch of purchased apps that I want to install on my Tab S so that I can retire my old semi-reliable Xyboard. This is a dealbreaker because if I can't install these apps on the Galaxy Tab, it's useless to me. Thanks for any advice.
"Slightly" off-topic?!?
This thread is about the instant video app. The shop app is anot other story.
But long story short: Get in touch with amazon support, the shop app should work without any tricks on the Tab S.
I rooted my Fire and have Google Play. Most of the other apps I have from Play are working. This is the only one so far that fails to start. I removed the system Kindle app, Goodreads, Audible, and Whisperlink apps before I installed Kindle from Google. Also, it seems that the Kindle app from Google Store can't seem to start Whisperlink in the background on startup.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
