[Q] ICS to Xperia X8 ? (ROM) - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

will go some ROMs (ICS) to x8? have any prevision? thanks for the work with the ginger is very good!

From what i know, and some developers have already explained, ICS (or Android 4.0) is made for newer phones and hardware, more recent cpu's, including dual-core.
X8 is an excellent piece of hardware, and running Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread is a major slap in the face on Sony-Ericsson who claim over and over again that this phone cannot handle it.
But everything has a limit, so if you want a phone that can handle ICS, my advice is, get a new one...
I'm not feeling the need to move on yet, my X8 has one year now, and since i installed GingerDX and the custom kernel, it feels like a brand new updated phone :-D

[Q] Xperia 2.3.3 ROMS

Hey guys, I was wondering if it was possible to port Android Xperia roms to X1 (I mean Android 2.3.3 ROMS like Arc/play).
because depsite of what lot of people say, I find these builds are cool somehow
sorry if you can't understand me, english not my native language =)
Actually Xperia X1 already has some good ROMs, but the main problem is the kernel itself. Hardware of Arc/play is different therefore afaik the new kernel should be written from scratch, again
and timescape and mediascape need performance we dont have
to get the feeling you could use the arc launcher

it's not an ICS
thks folks!
will be very nice for my miles!
big deal for milestone
what features do you expect from ICS?
i really don't get it
compatibility
i don't understand. compatibility with what?
compatibility with new applications designed for ICS
Time to bury the dream: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5181/cyanogenmod-9-should-support-most-cm7compatible-devices
While these newer chips will get early attention, Cyanogen said that support for most of the devices compatible with the Gingerbread-based CyanogenMod 7 would be forthcoming - he singled out Qualcomm's QSD8250 and the Google Nexus One as examples of what the team would be targeting on the low-end. Unfortunately for some, he also singled out the original Motorola Droid (which uses an older TI OMAP3430 and just 256MB of RAM) as a device which definitely wouldn't be supported, advising Droid owners that it is "time to upgrade."

From the beginning, Milestone users must knew that the CM9 won't get it... Small amount of RAM (with compare to other phones), maybe Milestone/Droid 2 will have a CM9
Zatapatalkowane z MotoStone'a
milestone doesn't have an official cyanogen rom, there only KANG's. It was already said that nadlabak will try to boot ICS on milestone, so will have to wait and we 'll see what we will get
ok, maybe he'll boot ICS on Milestone, but it will be fully functional? Do you want newest ROM with lags and restart? Or max 30MB free RAM and nothing more? At this time, I don't see ICS on milestone for today using
no, i don't. i think that cm7 with GB is max what we can get on milestone.
and as i've already said - i don't see any features of ICS that will make my phone better.
I fully agree with you. No CM7 at all,any ROM based on Android 2.3.7 it's enough for the stone
Zatapatalkowane z MotoStone'a
Maybe CM9 wouldn´t work on Milestone/Droid, but G1 runs with ICS too. It is laggy and slow but it works on phone with less RAM then Droid/Milestone.
main question is will it be usable on milestone?
g1 has unlocked bootloader and porting ics on it is a bit easier

[Q]Froyo / CM7 Speed vs Camera?

Let me start by saying Thank you to any developer making these things possible. I'm enjoying my phone more then before!
We get used to take fast pictures on our phone's... For every little nonsense...
It's a thing we expect on our phones we buy these day's.
I am having issues with CM7 to get the camera working and i saw somewhere they have removed the camera from their rom.
Now, Froyo has the cam working but the speed of my phone is very slow with Froyo. I like CM7 for it's simplicity and speed and ofc it's way better then that crappy stock rom that come's with the X8.
Now for my questions;
Why did Cyanogenmod remove support for the camera?
Why does it work in Froyo and not in Cyanogen?
And, if possible, could i speed up Froyo by overclocking or tweaks?
Froyo cant run some of my app's like swiftkey x for example...
Do i have to make a choice between speed/camera?
Thank you!
(sorry for bad grammar, English isn't my first language .)
Why did Cyanogenmod remove support for the camera?
The CyanogenMod by FreeXperiaTeam is being built from sources, which means they are writting all drivers from nothing, not just modifying them from some other ROMs. As Sony Erricson didnt gave FXP camera drivers so they couldnt finish up that ROM. They also droped a support for our X8 as well as for X10 mini/pro because of their old hardwer.
Why does it work in Froyo and not in Cyanogen?
Froyo that our X8 has is also custom ROM based on CyanogenMod but version 6. For a long time we hadnt had working camera on Gingerbread based ROMs. The thing is developers used patched Stock 2.1 drivers in Froyo and that wasnt possible until our great dev Doixanh managed to patch that drivers to work on 2.3 (Gignerbread) as well.
And, if possible, could i speed up Froyo by overclocking or tweaks?
Of course you can. But I would sugest you to install GingerDX by Doixanh. It is fully working and really smooth CM7 ROM and it will even run on stock kernel.
Froyo cant run some of my app's like swiftkey x for example...
Probably because they are not compatible. Using older versions might solve that problem.
Do i have to make a choice between speed/camera?
GingerDX.

Thank you, sir!
I've just installed GingerDx v022-update.zip as a custom zip over CM7. Camera has small problems but that isnt a big issue. Menu is fast enough.
Even swiftkey is working on Ginger while i got massive error's using it with Froyo.
I think ill stick to GingerDx. Thanks for the info!

ICS for Stock X8

SOMEONE please develop an ICS for stock X8 because since i can't unlock my bootloader i am twisted to the Gingerbread Stock version.
can anyone recommend me a Bug-free and stable Ice cream sandwich Rom for my STOCK X8??
i am searching for a great ROM a while,i tried all the CM7.2 ROM for stock.
Please try to understand the fact that it is nearly impossible to develop ICS for stock kernel. The best you can get is an extremely laggy ROM which is just a proof of concept where nothing works the way it should. devstaff tried but quit and so did troufiniou. The only way you can get a stable ICS ROM on your X8 is by unlocking your bootloader. Otherwise you have to be satisified with a themed CM7.2 ROM. Hope you understand.
i think people should learn to be satisfied, some devices which has better spec than our phone cant even get cm7 so lets just enjoy cm7 shall we
Ics is a lil laggy even on custom kernel , on stock is impossible to make it work.

oh... how many such threads have we seen before?
like
ics for stock.
why not stock kernel.
..please people...read old threads too... they have the same Q.. and the same answers... so please dont make such threads and waste the board
did you do homework about this topic before posting?
where do you get the Android x86 4.0.3 please send me the link and how to dual-boot from it,i am using Windows 8 PRO (ORIGINAL) Acer AOD250
it is possible ics on stock but it will be so laggy

I think we're heading in a wrong direction...Why don't focus on 2.3.6?

If you want JB, get Galaxy Young S6310.
It's the same phone as mini2, just different design, more RAM, CPU preclocked to 1GHz, and JB 4.1.2 preinstalled. It has the same price as the mini 2.
S6310 has 768MB of RAM. mini 2 only has 512MB. It's enough for 4.1, but not enough for optimal performance. Look at Xperia E, every reviewer has noticed lags with the official 4.1 on it.
I fully agree with TheWhisp's post about how we use drivers not suited for 4.2 (or 4.1 too). Without official LIB's and official kernel, we'll always have a half-baked CM. And that's not TheWhisp's problem. It's Samsung's problem for releasing new models every three seconds, and ditching support for the older models. WE WON'T HAVE JB ON MINI 2! THEY HAVE S6310 FOR THIS PROBLEM!
CM should only be an option, not a necessity that every mini 2 user should install, just because there's nothing else for our phone.
Look at Sony's Live With Walkman, it has 512MB of RAM too. Everyone is reporting better performance on official 2.3.6, than in official 4.0.4!
The BEST thing for our phone would be a new kernel for 2.3.6. Not the squadzone's, because it has some problems with certain stock ROM's. Isn't it sad that we only have ONE custom kernel for 2.3.6. And only TWO good ROM's for mini 2? (CM10 and CM10.1). I knows there's many 2.3.6 ROM's but they are mostly just squadzone's kernel + additional visual tweaks + removed bloatware + useless build.prop modifications, simply because there's nothing else to do with 2.3.6. I know it might sound like I'm begging you, but why don't make a new kernel for 2.3.6? With fix for the famous LK2 no-WiFi bug, and perhaps better performance.
I do not want this phone's development to be stale and almost non-existent.
If I didn't have to start school in 2 days, I would be a developer and help with everything, but there's more important stuff than mini 2. I'm just proposing an idea.

Okay, i've corrected some typing errors in your post. Typing errors fixed are in bold.
And, i agree with you.
Errors fixed. Also, Android has not ditched any support for 2.3.6, it still is the second most used version to date, so why not?

Yeah, it's also the stablest one to date. CM7.2 also loads alots of customization than CM9, CM10 or even 10.1 and 10.2.
You are right. I have squadzone kernel but i wanted some better. Someone that could make a new kernel and, why not, also a new rom.
PS: someone should make a list with all roms for our device, like in other forums.

Yes. I have to agree with you. There no need to wait for official jellybean anymore. I think Samsung also headache how to make a smooth jellybean rom on low end device. For low end device, I think gingerbread is better.
I list down what I want in mini 2 :good:
ROM:
- Based on latest 2.3.6 firmware
- Bloatwares removed
- Deoxeded
- Zipaligned
- Tweaks to make it more faster and smooth compared to stock
- Themed (optional) - Galaxy S4 icon, font, new accuweather, blue statusbar instead of shiny green, percentage battery, beautiful bootscreen
- anything good for user
Kernel
- kernel build based on goals "smooth, fast, battery saving, stable"
- 3 step different freq 200,500,800 MHz (non OC kernel), 4 step 200,500,800,1000 MHz (OC kernel)
- tweaks to make it smooth and stable experience for user
- anything good for user
If only I am capable on doing all this.....:
Thank you for your post, you've bought some interesting ideas. I would personally have the ROM Odexed, as the performance would be better.
I think I would add the 6th step in the OC kernel, which would be 1126MHz, for max performance.
But I'm no kernel compiler. Although I will try to change the squadzone's kernel logo to show S6500 and not S6500D, as it's the wrong model I have.
I'm thinking about sorting stuff out with all the components we currently have. But that takes time.
I don't like huge theming, the only awesome thing for me would be the percentage battery.
Cm 10.1 works even faster than stock for me. Games work well too.
Sent from my GT-S6500 using Tapatalk 2
That's good for you, but this isn't a topic to bash CM10(.1;.2), it's simply an idea that we should have a much wider choices of custom ROMs for mini 2.
Well, we already have plenty. Maybe when thewhisp finishes working on 10.1 which is nearly complete he will grace us with cm 7. Just an idea.
We also need more devs, i dont see many ppl working on jena roms

Yes I agree with low end device work faster in 2.3.6 than 4.0 and above. My brother own xperia tipo and it is lagging on 4.0.4. I guess it is better if it on 2.3.6. While my sister own mini 2 S6500D running on 2.3.6.
I mention about theming before, it is not heavy theming mate. I also like you. I prefer profesional look and minimalist theme. A theme that have clean, neat and professional look from boot screen to user interface. And yes % battery would be great.
But sadly low end device not much developers, so we may have to wait.
My phone works twice as fast on CM 10.1.
No major bugs or anything.
Overclocked to 1Ghz.
Runs smoother than before.
Works faster than s3 mini on stock (tested with antutu)
I dont see why this phone wont work with oficial jellybean.
Galaxy Music has 512 ram and works grat with oficial jellybean.
