Not sure if anyone has posted this method but it's on the droid forums.
So i add unlimited hotspot 4g feature on the phone with a rep and it so added unlimited data for 3o. It is not under data plans online it would be under features.
After i went back online and removed the data hotspot and voila unlimited data
A few people have tried it and were successful so i suggest you give it a whirl and do it before the end of november since some are saying its a promotion

Um no it's in the bionic forum this is for verizon just try and you will see

I will give this a shot.. thanks.
SO what exactly do we have to do, and if I have hotspot 4g already on account do i just remove it
well i never had the hotspot so im sure u can just remove it and then call up up and add the unlimited 4g hotspot feature again and the rep will add the unlimited data also the whole thing should be 60 then later on today jus hop on your computer and remove the hotspot but from what the red told me as soon as she added the unlimited 4g hotspot it came up on her screen to add unlimited data
worked for a few on the droid forums give it a try and keep us updated

Where you found unlimited hotspot 4g feature? I see only 4G Mobile Hotspot feature that just add 2GB.
I made the post on droid forums about this. You have to go to the change features section on the VZW online account not the change minutes, data, text section. The change features has options like adding visual voicemails, insurance, etc. You will see a unlimited hotspot option there

I called yesterday and VZW representative confirm that unlimited data hotspot is not available since July.
I can't find the option in the Add Features section. What's up with that?
This totally worked! Just tell the rep exactly what you are looking for...ie unlimited data plan and that it should come up automatically after activating the mobile hotspot option. Thanks to those who have shared this!

Could you confirm that unlimited data plan should come up automatically when you activating 4G Mobile Hotspot feature? Because yesterday VZW rep said that 4G Mobile Hotspot just add 2GB to my data allowance.
I am currently on the 4gb double your data plan. Anyone know if you have to call to get the unlimited feature or can you get this by adding the hotspot feature online?
I also joined verizon in September. I started with the 2gb data plan. That is the feature you need to come customer care to add. They they will tell you that a unlimited data plan is needed for the unlimited hotspot to work.

The problem is that NO feature like "unlimited hotspot". They have "4G Mobile Hotspot" that just add 2GB and does not required unlimited data plan.
This didn't work for me. Just tried calling and the rep kept trying to make me change my plan when I kept telling her I just wanted to add the feature. Might try calling later tonight to see if I can get a different rep who will say differently.

I realize this is a bit off topic, but...Here is the scoop on the 4G Mobile Hotspot. If you already have unlimited data and you purchased a 4G smartphone (of course you have or you wouldn't be on the Bionic forum) you can add the feature for the 4G Mobile Hotspot which includes unlimited data. Not 2GB or 4GB, but unlimited. I contacted someone at verizon that I know because I was getting conflicting stories. I went ahead today and signed up for it while it is still available. For the time being, $30 for an unlimited hotspot feature seems like a reasonable deal. Of course I know that it should be included with our data plan but since it isn't I'll take the unlimited option while it is still available. Cheers!!
Verizon offers a $30 unlimited hotspot feature for 4G phones. By default your data plan has to be unlimited as well. So if you don't have unlimited data plan then you have to call in and have a rep add it. Once you have it then you should be able to drop the hotspots leaving the unlimited data plan for $29.99
However very few reps are switching it now. Apparently the $30 hotspot was only meant for users that already had unlimited data.

Because thats not a smartphone I am assuming she has the feature phone data plan. So yes she will have to go to either the $15 for 200mb or $25 for 2gb data plans

Depends what type of data plan it is because I have the unlimited data plan that included all options for a smart phone on my wifes line because she was getting one in the very near future and didn't have to make any changes although they will try and get you to drop it, walk into a Best Buy store if you have one near and let them check it out for you- I have used them for my last few upgrades and have had no issues- They ironed out the issue when ATT tried to convince me my unlimited data plan had to go
I have heard from different sources that ATT will force you on the data plan they think you should have
Your friend already has the unlimited data plan so under the grandfather rule she will continue to have it unless she decides to cancel it for another data plan. But once you cancel it you can never get it back.

Sorry if this is old news(I didnt see a thread about it), but finally the govt does a little something right. And its kinda nice to see greedy Verizon get slapped in the face. :/

sorry im a new user cant post links
Unless I missed something it doesn't necessarily mean that tethering will be free. What the govt. did was slap them on the wrist for blocking tethering apps in the app store, forcing customers to use their paid app. I could be wrong, though. Anyhow I've heard that a number of people were already tethering anyhow. Just don't go overboard on the data usage even if you have an unlimited plan.

this.
It wasn't just for blocking users from using third party programs, it was for charging LTE subscribers to tether, period (especially users on limited tiered pricing). That is why the share everything plans all include free hotspot now.
Now I'm tempted to get a share everything plan. Can anyone recommend any apps to wifi tether on the market?

Would you even need a 3rd party app on a shared plan if hotspot is included? Wouldn't that use the built-in app?
If you are on share everything, then you can just use the built-in hotspot.
Here is an interesting article regarding FCC's ruling:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...eans-to-you-faq/?part=rss&subj=news&tag=title
People definitely need to read that CNET article. Anyone on an older unlimited plan still has to pay to tether. It's only existing customers with a fixed amount of data per month who can tether for free.
This ruling makes no sense at all. Why would it allow wifi tether on tiered plans but not unlimited?
im goingto guess because the deal was for the 4g range not the 3g range.... unliited plans werent for 4g only 3g.

Me too! I got my Bionic for free, since it was 100 bucks with a 2 year contract minus some discount I got for using more than 1 GB of data a month. Still unlimited data, no unlimited talk. Still 91 dollars a month for basic service.

How did you get a bionic early? They didn't release it until after they stopped offering the unlimited plan. I signed up the last weekend unlimited was available and the only 4g phones that were out were the Tbolt, Revolution, and Charge.

I got my bionic in December, then called in February and got switched to unlimited data. They had a loophole for a while where unlimited hotspot was listed in the features section of the website, but it failed if you tried to add it to your plan. You just had to call and many reps would tell you you needed to be on unlimited data to get that, so you just asked then to switch you to unlimited data. The unlimited data was even 29.99 instead of 30 for 2 or 4GB. Plus, if you had any kind of group service discount it applied to the unlimited data but not the tiered plan.

It actually makes COMPLETE sense (for Verizon's sake) - since you will run through your allotted 2GB or whatever plan you have. If you have unlimited, then you can just power your home WiFi or whatever you want, which is not what you're paying for when you have unlimited data for your cell phone.
Anyway, this is XDA, so this shouldn't really matter to anyone here...turn that 1 to a 0 with an SQL editor and enjoy your free tethering.
I have a stock charge and am using foxfi free tethering on unlimited plan. I will have a bionic in 3 days

Seconded. I bought mine release day with an upgrade and the only question I asked the sales rep was that I make sure I stay on unlimited data, which I have. In theory, the ruling should support free tethering on all 4G service, including unlimited.
I was a little excited to hear about the introduction of the new "Unlimited" data plan starting tomorrow. However, upon further perusion, I've discovered a screenshot and confirmed it with both of my local T-Mo store managers. This plan cannot be combined with hotspot/tethering option.
So my question is this: Will there be a workaround for this? Or do I have to stick with my current plan? I hit the 10gb cap within 2 weeks, because in this rural area, I use my phone as my general internet. :\

i'm tethering it right now and i'm on the new truly unlimited data plan. I had to set it to samsung gs2 as that was the closest related phone on the list that worked. generic ics or auto didn't work. i had to install the apk and re install it for it to work. then it took some playing with to get it to connect, but it works now. you can get it here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850972 just a heads up though. I wouldn't go crazy with your internet. any indication that you are tethering and tmobile could do a number of things. read the fine print as this would be a violation of your contract.

unfortunately...
my phone is rooted with the stock rom and although tethering and wifi do work.....it's blocked by tmobile. you can get away with wifi tethering for a few minutes, then you'll get a text from tmobile with a link to "upgrade" to a plan that allows this feature. I've tried both usb tethering and wifi tethering which end in the same result

Can you clarify your data plan? In most capped data plans (3GB or over or shared data plan), tethering is included. But on unlimit data plan, tethering is not allowed. That's how it works in AT&T branded phones. However, a truely unbranded phone should allow tethering without ant AT&T restrictions but you never know.

I thought Verizon tethering was free if you were not on an unlimited plan. I currently have an old plan with the 4GB double data, and the rep informed me over the phone that unless I switch to the share everything plan that tethering is not included. Can anyone comment on this?
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...ns-fcc-tethering-settlement-means-to-you-faq/
So to be clear, if I have one of Verizon's older tiered plans, will I have to pay $30 for tethering?
You can avoid the tethering fee by downloading a third party app from an application store. If you tether using Verizon's service, you will still be charged the $20 a month to access Mobile Broadband Connect. So you need to be proactive and find an app that you can use.
