nothing happens when i check the debugging
ICS removes the USB feature of the phone, you have to mount in Recovery.

So I had a little accident with my captivate and my screen is dead...the phone is booting normally I think but I can't see anything at all just a black screen...
Is there a way I can mount the internal storage with adb commands or something to get some of my files transferred to my windows pc?
I did have the pattern lock enabled so I don't know if that would make a difference.
Thanks

If you had a custom ROM with CWM then you could 3 button combo in to CWM recovery and mount your drives that way.
Unfortunatly I had just flashed the gingerbread leak so no cwm was installed...

Have you tried adb? Assuming that you usb debugging enabled, you should be able to do 'adb pull /mnt/sdcard .' and get a full dump of your card.
If not, i think that using Heimdall you could always flash a build with adb enabled and debugging on. You could also probably use Odin, but I am unfamiliar with it.
Finally, check with at&t online tech support and see if they have suggestions. My experience may be atypical, but I find them far more tech savvy than other at&t support staff.
I'm sorry I cannot tell you exactly how to do this but mobiletechvideos youtube site has a video for this exact thing, damaged screens. There is a way to use your pc as your phone screen that way you can pull off what you need.
Hope this helps some.

Have you tried just plugging it in to your computer? If it is powered up, and usb debugging was off, you may be lucky enough to fully access your files on the internal sd.
worst case scenario:
flash a custom kernel through download mode with ODIN, reboot into recovery, and
"adb pull /sdcard /path/on/computer/you/want/files"
may have to run a mount command to get it to mount sdcard though
I have installed the latest nightly for my galaxy note and I can't mount properly my storage. The USB prompt doesnt come up on the notification drawer.. Any ideas?
When plugging in your phone into usb, just go to settings-->Applications-->Development and check the USB debugging .If you can't mount SD Card and your pc doesn't recognise it then Your USB is bricked .. There is a tutorial on the forums that will help you with that : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691187
That's a known issue with CM, unfortunately. There are apps on the market that allow you to mount storage, although I use Airdroid.
Since using this I don't even care about the issue

Argh.. Are the devs aware of this? They need to fix it Also the phone randomly shuts off when the performance option is selected in the performance options..
Go to, setting> developer options and tick the usb debugging
Now go to settings> storage and press the menu key and choose the usb computer connection and tick the mass storage
Now you have the option of usb debugging in your notification when you connect your device to computer

Thanks for your advise, but it does not work at all... :crying:
The funny thing is that is used to work after installation of the nightley build 2 days ago. But suddendly it stopped working...
Even a re-install of the the older (or newer build) does not bring it back... :-(
Any other ideas?
With kind regards
Joe

Hmmm, the recent comments from users in Google Play (on the ad-version and the paid one) are very negative, and explicitly say that it does not work (anymore?) on CM9...
But I will give it a try today evening...

Hi all. I'm wondering if anyone who has experienced this could help me out.
I am running stable. I am unable to mount USB storage on the phone. It works fine in ClockWorkMod, but not when the ROM starts up. When I connect the USB, the USB debugging notification comes up, but no option to mount the USB. Any thoughts?
Me too but in JB

Anyone?
My phone doesn't show up on any computer :/ the phone is charging while on usb, but nothing shows up. I am on stock non rooted 2.3.6 baseband I9070XXLK2.
The problem first occupied when I updated the phone for the first time (in January), and I am using the latest firmware available for me. How can I solve this?
Thanks!

Try (re)installing kies. Maybe it is drivers issue. If it is chargin then it mist be software related. Maybe you got developer settings > debug USB enabled. You can also try communication>usb settings>connect as usb storage(or however it is in English ;p - i got it in Polish)

And read all i've wrote in Q&A main thread. In my case, it was sadly a hardware issue

Didn't tried on linux but it is possible to transfer files to phone that do not have sd card. My windows sees it as mp3 player - I got winamp with auto mount as usb storage option enabled. When entered into that player icon i can see 2 partitions : phone and sdcard - internal and external memory .
Based on that i guess that it should work the same on linux.

This morning I was playing around in CWM and clicked on format external sdcard
Well for some reason it formatted my internal card and I lost everything. I tried using a backup cwm made I guess prior to doing all that but it says MD5 mismatch.
I tried using cwm to get into usb mode but that didn't work.
I also tried using the sideload option but that also didn't work.
Tried getting into download mode and it still only boots to recovery.
How do I get a new rom put back on there?
clockworkmod has a way to mount internal storage on you PC while in recovery. Go to mounts and storage section in recovery and way at the bottom it says mount as USB storage. Plug your phone into your PC and wait for it to find drivers. I would recommend a internet connected windows 7 PC cause that's what I used and it worked fine.
You might have to unplug it and plug it back in once after the drivers are installed.

I just tried what you suggested and it doesn't work either....I think I really got it messed up...but I still think it can be fixed.
After doing what you said CWM says Error: mounting /data
I'm pretty sure my entire file system has been wiped clean.

Once connected, you'll probably need to flash Odin KK4 without bootloaders and start fresh from there.

I finally was able to get the external sd card to be recognized by the phone....now I just cant get my micro sd adapter working so that I can get a new ROM put on there....
Any suggestions on that? LOL
Tried taping up the lock slider and have had it taped in both unlocked and locked positions and yet it is still write protected.
