3D Bootanimation? - LG Thrill 4G

This may be a dumb question, but being that our phone the LG Thrill 4G is a 3D phone would it be possible to create a bootanimation in 3D? I think it would be a great way to show off the 3D capability of the phone.

3d requires drivers and an app to disay in 3d. gallery is what displays photos in 3d, video player does videos and games do it themselves. other things dont have that ability which is why you need the 3d converter to view other things in 3d it is the converter that enables it. the drivers would have to be loaded before the boot animation and the 3d would have to be implemented into what displays the boot animation. it would require a lot of work and not even sure if it is possible to do at all. im sure if it was lg would have been more than happy to show it off.
now i could be wrong this is pretty much just me making an assumption based on what i have learned.

I agree that it would be awesome. I for one just wish they would implement more 3D than just games. I saw a article of theirs saying they still feel 3D is the future and will stay behind it, but if the 3D is only really going to be good for games, whats the point? Just my opinion

well it is just starting out right now it is only games soon you never know, the whole phone could be in 3d with option to make 2d. the launcher, app drawer, boot anim and all apps could be in 3d one day. your icons would look like they were a few inches above the actual screen and using advanced proximity sensing tech they could make it to where you can actual press the icons without actually touching the phone.
imagine the icons and dock popping out at your face and you can select something by pressing the icon "in the air" your brain would think that you were actually touching the icon it would look like you did but your finger is actually inches away from your phone. the phone will be able to tell the difference between a finger selecting something or just an object coming close. this i think is what lg is trying to work towards. a full featured interactive 3d experience

woah, if that is indeed the future of 3d, i'm definatelly taking the Thrill from my wife and lettin' her have the Sky Rocket, lol(Not that she'd let me;(..)

When I saw treks post I was going to say the same thing. I can almost guarantee that one day they will even have screens that will be 3d no matter the andgle. Stereoscopic is a very primitive form of displaying 3d it has been around for decades and I am talking more than 2. Won't it be something when your phone doesn't really have a screen so to speak it will have a projector that actually creates everything as a hologram a few inches above the surface... well that's pretty far in the future but i could see it happening. You might even be able to lay your phone flat on a table and watch a movie in full 3d holographic display. If you are in front you see the actors faces if you are in the back you see the back.of their heads. Now that would be awesome.

Compiz for Android

I know it's purely cosmetics, but cosmetically speaking, if there was a version of compiz that could run on Android with all the settings... I'm thinking smooth rotating desktop cube with 4 virtual desktops vs the current 3-screen swipy desktop... or window animations, etc... with the same silky smooth animation that you get from compiz in ubuntu.... Just imagining this on Android... all the iPhone users jaws would drop open at the sight of a smooth spinning cube desktop and windows that burst into flames, etc.
So my question to the devs... I am not a developer... Is this dream of mine of a Android-Compiz app at all possible?
It's possible, but I've heard that there is NO hardware acceleration on the G1 at the moment. Everythings being rendered with software.
Also, Compiz wouldn't be worth the battery life. Yes, it's sexy, but remember that this is a phone. I wouldn't trade what little battery life we already have for that.

Umm you're wrong about hardware acceleration, it certainly does have it, just take a look at the demo app qualcomm made to show off the chipset. That said, it's a PHONE. If you can manage to get all the compiz effects working smoothly on a 528MHz single core computer with 192MB of RAM and a really crappy onboard graphics chip then sure, it'll work(i.e. no, this phone has nowhere near the processing power needed to have compiz working, hell it doesn't even have full OpenGL, it's OpenGL ES)

<The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.>
480 x 320 screen resolution helps with the prcoessing needs... and compiz is highly configurable... I'll bet if the app (or one inspired by compiz) could be made to run on Android, it would be a matter of adjusting the right modest settings...
People don't buy iPhones for the battery life, and they don't even buy iPhones for the phone. The phone is like the cherry on top. They buy iPhones for the pure eye candy bliss.
All I'm saying is... don't under estimate the value of eye candy in the consumer market, and if Android had a compiz like app it would kill the iPhone on eye candy.
I want windows transitions to explode into flames, or fade in and out, or spin out of sight (similar to the page 1/page 2 transition for the 'toggle settings' app)... I want the desktop to be a rotating cube with 4 to 6 virtual desktops that spins as fast as I can slide my finger across the screen and eventually come to a smooth stop.
Just saying... it would kill the iPhone. Kill it. And it would sell a lot of G1s.
Doesn't compiz require x-windows to work?

Exactly, I had the same question.
What is the android window environment? It's not an x-windows, is it?
Good question, I don't know... but even so, seems like there could be a way to do it.
Like the existing swipey desktop... if it could be made into a revolving cube with 4 sides. And then to add widgets to any of the 4 virtual desktops (in the same way that we have 3 virtual desktops now)
I ask this all from a very humble, non-developer position... Just wanted to plant the seed in case there were any developers who thought it might be possible.
Android runs on the framebuffer -- there is no X.
The hardware acceleration for graphics is being used (videos wouldn't play without it, for instance). Comparatively, it's probably something like an old TNT graphics card (but with hardware acceleration for h264 and such).
There's a tiny chance in hell it could pull off very basic compiz features... but it would hose the system... (and require that you run X -- which would require you installing your own software base separate from and without Android).
No one's going to put in the effort for methinks, especially when it would so cripple the phone.

My thoughts exactly. Another thing I thought of is that the vast majority of compiz effects have to do with windows and the G1 doesn't really have separate windows so I don't see how it would work. Desktop Cube might be possible and maybe some fancier animation for bringing up programs but aside from that, I don't even see what compiz effects would be applicable.
I think Cube Desktop (with rotation speed determined by how fast your finger slides across the screen) and windows transitions (burn, spin, flip, fade, slide etc) would be a great place to start!
Well since android is OPEN SOURCE we could create a compiz for android using the window management libraries that we will also need to create and build this ontop of cyanogenmod
The cube animation is offered in rogros82's home replacement on the market called GDE, I'M CURRENTLY USING IT, the best home replacement app to date!
Have to agree there aren't many of the compiz effects that would apply to the Android world. Cube/Sphere desktop & window animations are really about it. As far as that goes GDE (launcher replacement) does most of what makes sense to adopt from compiz. I have been using it for about a week & it uses 2% battery on average. The application dock it comes with is nice too.
If someone wanted to look into making their own compiz-like effects, You could start by digging around OMS code to see how they got cube and all working. Like I said though most of it has been done already, and is just a few bucks on the market.

You beat me to it. GDE is a great app though. Being able to switch themes easily is also a nice feature.
GDE running now looks great.!
eats my battery i think but nice 2 have
Well I know the Samsung Behold 2 has an inside cube animation effect with it's home/launcher but I wouldn't know how to pull it from the SB2 and port it to the Dream.
That's just an idea for the devs...
GO Launcher EX
GO Launcher EX has the cube animations built in it's effects for home screen and app drawer.. It works well
So does ADW EX.
Great way to bring a thread back from the grave...

The ZTE Avid N9120 has this cube. As you add apps, the cube expands the total number of sides it has .
Metropcs offers this phone via best buy and other sources.. worth every penny.
You can extract the cube to a desktop and add it to every phone on earth.
How Awesome Would This Be?!
Compiz on the Galaxy Note 3 or 4 and the Galaxy Edge!? With some special effects that run down the edge of the Edge. That would be fantastic! I personally love cosmetic stuff. Themes, status bar mods from xuimod, or Wanam Exposed. Now if someone could rebuild compiz with burn and cube and wave and wobbly windows! Let me just include one more exclamation point to express my enthusiasm!

Helo.. yesterday i have been watching tv, and i found something interesting.
how about to make to feel that our screen in g1 is in 3 dimensional ? just check this out :

how about using the build-in accelero to make the illusion like in the movie in there? just moving your phone to look at the icons on the desktop in 3d would be cool ^^
just think about it. Is it possible to do ?

Labyrinth 1.3 does do something similar to this. When you tilt the phone to move the ball the walls move accordingly. It's kinda awesome. Yes it would be neet to see on the G1 but I love battery life and this would kill it.
in theory it should be possible even without head tracking... Like seen in the TATS interface it can be done by using the accelerometers. Its hoping that dev's want to jump into this and create something with this technology. But i dont think its simple, but it is doable...

Live Wallpaper

I'm making Live wallpaper. If you have some animation and you would like it a live wallpaper Let me know.
Big thanks to Kangi26k for the Android Hands animation
To install copy it to your device, and install it just like any other apk.
I take no credit for the program to do this.
A nice HD shot of a total solar eclipse sort of fluxuating there would make a nice wallpaper.
Or (incoming geekout) a nice HD shot of a Stargate sitting there active.
A blinking Hal 9000 would be cool.
I'd personally like to see a Dalek. That's an android that demands respect.

Not sure if it is floating around somewhere, but maybe a LWP of a background that is clear water (the entire screen), but then when you touch it, it makes a reverberation across the screen
Just like the water one that comes with the phone, but no leaves and no tree background, just clear water

Definitely. If there's one thing that I'd like to see more of on the Market, it's more "alternative" launchers like this. Launcher Pro, ADW, Go, etc. all have their differences, but they're more or less the same in that they're all plays off of the whole multiple homescreen and a dock thing. It's nice to see new ideas out there. I remember a while back there was a launcher that showed all of your texts, email, facebook notifications, etc. in kind of an agenda view. It never really took off, but it's good to see devs think outside the box about the homescreen.

Because thats the core of how android to this point is intended to work. I like Launcher7, its fast, smooth and functional so I play with it here and there but the tile UI is comparatively bland and boring even with widget support (and the custom ones I've seen that arent bland and boring are WAY too busy). I'm gonna put it on my wifes phone since she'll love the big ass simple tiles concept.

without using custom images those 2x1 and 1x1 tiles (and the headphone/camera images) are all there is. I'm not going to spend anytime importing images because I like my android phone as an android phone and it wont get any use anyway. I was basically showing how the UI looks unmolested.

+1 here for this great idea!
thats the best lock screen idea in the history of lock screen ideas, would be ool if it had buttons like in the videoeo that quick linked you to several app, music Calender gmail contacts browser, all the most used, also if it was as big as one in video you could have buttons on outside ring, and a working manipulatible preview of the app button selected on inside ring, and you could scroll through each preview by rotating the lock.
I'd like that! Its like a holographic mouse!

Some nice ideas here. As much as I love the vanilla experience, in terms of lockscreens Google always disappoints me. Especially with Honeycomb: The first thing I though was: Why not having, let's say, up to 5 app shortcuts around the ring (just like the "lock"). If you move your finger to the lock, you unlock. Move it to the "Music" symbol, you open your music app, move it to the "Pulse" app...you get the idea. There are so many opportunities, especially with this kind of big screen (and the support of 10 Fingers at once) that it hurts me to only see this (even though fancy) ring to unlock without further modifications.
