im there :d
So does this guide work? Im actually having a bit of trouble understanding where to even begin :-(
MOD EDIT I cant get help from other devs, not cause they dont want too, but because they dont have the streak. So I will create the CWM recovery myself. Because I will not start to dev this device without a stable recovery. By the way, you can get to the built in system recovery and do a factory reset by having the device off, the hold "Volume +" and the power button.

we also need to have a way to return to the factory recovery image just in case
You can do that by booting into the recovery and selecting it.

I'm half way through the recovery build guide right now. Work is getting in the way at the moment though, so if someone releases before me that would be awesome.

How do you figure this? You will need a flashable. Img file to revert back too stock. Once you flash cwm it takes over the stock recovery.

Just sent an email to koush to see if I could send him my device. So he can get cwm on it

dell original rom for the streak 7

where can i find dell original rom for the streak 7
After rooting and installng ADW launcher which then stopped my tablet from saving any data or even restoring to factory... I had to exchange it for another because Dell tech support didnt have a restore image for me.

Check in the dev. Thread under performance tweaks. V.2 there is a stock system .img in there that you can flash with fastboot

I have seen in a few other threads that the recovery image download link is broken. If anyone wants to contact the original poster of the thread, maybe we can get operating links up in a sticky...

there is a mirror over there in the performance thread.... i think on page 4. use fastboot to recover.
can someone post the bootloader.bin
bump jump bump
I tried fastboot but that doesn't work as my streak7 does not let fastboot write to the Streak7 even though it tells me that it was successful. hopefully some one could help me with a recovery image that I could apply from recovery mode

For the Android Noob

Ok, so T-mobile is sending me a new unit because the one I got friday had issues with popping up keyboard and menu bars (no hacks yet), but did do the update to 2.2.2.
so on new DS that is coming, just want to make sure I do this right, xda style:
1. Root using superclick (v1.7 is all I could find, if someone has 1.6.3 and wants to p.m. me...)
2. Install clockwork recovery mod stickied in Dev section
3. Install the cleaned up custom 2.2.2 recovery image.
Am I missing anything? Built roms for winmo, but some of the android terminology is still new to me.
If its the latest update no...no need for root just fastboot clockwork mod recovery then flash the rooted update

ah ok. So I can install clockwork recovery, flash the 2.2.2 tweaked version through fastboot and skip the root?

yup, you can skip the root altogether. Just boot into fastboot, flash the CWR recovery image I posted in dev, reboot. Then go into recovery. Once you are in CWR you can flash the updated 2.2 zip in the dev section as well and it's pre rooted so after you flash it, you will be rooted Currently the superclick or whatever it's called isnt working for 2.2.2
Sounds good. What benefits are there to the tweaed version besides root?

Problems Flasing Recovery

Ok, so I spent the last 5 hours reading through this forum and trying all sorts of things, now it is time to ask somebody who knows what they are doing.
I am trying to get my T-Mob 2.2.2 to Honeycomb. Why? Because I had to change a broken screen and was stupid enough to rip the cable for the menue keys and since we don't need them on honeycomb, that seems to be the way.
So I went through Manii's instructions and downloaded all the drivers etc. so far so good. Even used the tricks hidden in the orum to force windows to install the drivers. I am on xp. My device manager shows Dell Android ADB device. The streak shows 'starting fastboot USB download protocol' and does not move from there.
I ran adb to see if it works. adb reboot rebooted the Streak, so it seems fine. Now the problem is fastboot.
in cmd I type: 'fastboot flash recovery-froyo-US.img'. the recovery file is in the same path as fastboot.
This is what I get:
Unknown partition 'recovery-froyo-US.img'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'recovery-froyo-US.img'
I am hoping somebody can help me out here.
Thanks
Why is there a dash between recovery and froyo.you should remove that dash also why do you name the recovery to a hard name it will make the process more complicated so go to were you put the recovery and rename it to "recovery" onlyyy and without the quotes then put into bootloader and then go into fastboot and type cd C:\the name of the folder were you put the fastboot and the recovery and press enter then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img that's it
Never tell anybody outside the family what you're thinking again.
Fastbooy flash recovery <path to recovery>

While your at it might as well flash cwm too. Changing the file name to recovery makes it a whole lot easier. Also why are you flashing a Froyo recovery if you are going to be on HC? Or is that the way tmo does it?

Froyo is required to than use the update.pkg for T-Mobile. Since T-Mob did not support the honeycomb update, this is the only way.
So, I found my mistake. It had nothing to do with the path and the name, the file can be named whatever it wants to be named.
I simply forgot one term.
Fastboot flash RECOVERY filename.
Pretty stupid looser newbee mistake. Finally running now. Somebody mentioned they had some problems with a flickering screeen on the lower right (in landscape mode) after update, guess I have the same. Just insstalled a new screen, so that would not be the problem, any ideas?
Thanks for all your help

One more to go  ...but seriously, JB on DS7, does that make any sense? I have to say, I am not even impressed by HC, the screen resolution does not really cater to any of the newer OS.

I call BS as I am pretty much the only dev working on it. If you had a working JB you would have already posted it.

I have to agree with Giveen here, even though you might make a claim to it you wont get much fame out of it (if any) as you are new to the scene, even I dont get much recognition with the MIUI port (A. because it doesnt work yet B. because nobody really gives a sh!t about a new dev C. I dont go around making claims I cant back up, failed ROMs or not I still make steady progress on this D. nor do I wish to be an attention whore) so unless you can provide a link that has a working JB ROM for the DS7 (that isn't Giveen's) then we might believe you, oh and we will know if you have used Giveen's ROM as there are certain lines of code that only Giveen uses
You could also make a post with it on the general section with it and ask a dev to move the page. So yes I am also calling shinnanigans.
Nothing says you cant simply make a thread here and ask for it to be moved (or you can even leave it here and it will be moved anyway as it belongs there)
so thread closed on account of mass BS by n00b RE the supposed development of JB for S7 by the chinese? I think yes

root honeycomb without a pc

heyho,
i want to root my Dell Streak 7 with the original 3.2 but i havent got a pc. On 2.2 i just used gingerbreak but it. dont work for honeycomb.
I need it to edit the build prop for gameloft games etc.
thanks
To my knowledge it is not possible, but I have always used the method that works best and fastboot is the best method for honeycomb.
