heyho,
i want to root my Dell Streak 7 with the original 3.2 but i havent got a pc. On 2.2 i just used gingerbreak but it. dont work for honeycomb.
I need it to edit the build prop for gameloft games etc.
thanks
To my knowledge it is not possible, but I have always used the method that works best and fastboot is the best method for honeycomb.

where can i find dell original rom for the streak 7
After rooting and installng ADW launcher which then stopped my tablet from saving any data or even restoring to factory... I had to exchange it for another because Dell tech support didnt have a restore image for me.

Check in the dev. Thread under performance tweaks. V.2 there is a stock system .img in there that you can flash with fastboot

I have seen in a few other threads that the recovery image download link is broken. If anyone wants to contact the original poster of the thread, maybe we can get operating links up in a sticky...

there is a mirror over there in the performance thread.... i think on page 4. use fastboot to recover.
can someone post the bootloader.bin
bump jump bump
I tried fastboot but that doesn't work as my streak7 does not let fastboot write to the Streak7 even though it tells me that it was successful. hopefully some one could help me with a recovery image that I could apply from recovery mode
Recovery is done!
Just update your ClockworkMod app and install the recovery and you are set.

Not yet, because a recovery image hasent be successfully dumped to compile a CWM recovery. One that is done Koushik Dutta will add it to the supported device list.
I am working on that now.

Tried playing with it tonight. Found out that Dellâ„¢ has set this beast up a little different than conventional devices that you can dump from. I should have something by Sunday at the latest, but I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for the support. As for hellzya, I will work on some kernel tweaks as well, but not until I get this CWM recovery first. Cant afford to brick this just yet. Once I have this done, I will probably push a kernel before I push a rom, cause if I can get the battery drain down, I can convince other devs to buy this device and play with it.

This is great - so glad to see someone working on this device!

I tried to look over how the streak's file system is built and it seems it does not use the standard mtd setup like most android devices which would allow for a quick recovery partition download...
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA App
That was my assessment too. I need to figure out an alternative to the conventional mtd dump. If you guys figure it out before I get off work, please post it and I will work on it tonight.

Hey. If you go into ROM manager and select flash recovery two devices come up. the Advent Vega and the Elocity A7 both of which are Tegra 2. Would one of these work? I'm assuming not but figure maybe because their HW is similar maybe one of those recoveries would work. I always thought ROM manager would only show compatible recoveries as options.
Its quite possible, but I aint got the balls to test it out, lmao. But if anyone feels froggy, have at it and post results.

hmm well looking at the specs of each, the Vega has the same cpu I believe while the A7 has the 1.2. and overall besides the screen size differences the S7 is more like the Vega than the A7.. ok.. What's the worst that can happen if I try to flash it? I just wont be able to recover in case something happens? It might just give me an error if it tries to flash and fails...
hmmm I'm debating... should I try?
well I just tried flashing the one for the A7, didn't work but I also didn't lose stock recovery and everything is ok.. Going to try the other now but think it will be the same
tried the other.. same results.. oh well at least I gave it a shot..
I figued they wouldn't work, but it was a possibility.
Yeah, ClockWork seems to be pretty much inoperable. It will install and execute but that's about it.

Hey guys,
here is the bootanimation from my xoom. I tested it and it works on the streak!
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21064708/bootanimation.zip
you will need root. rename the exsisting bootanimation.zip in /system/media to bootanimation.old then copy the above zip into that directory. Reboot and youll have the HC boot animation.
Now my themed out Streak 7 looks even more like HC
if you havent seen it yet this is what it looks like

not sure, havent tested it on a phone running cyanogen. only on my streak 7, I know replacing the boot animation is the same process for CM but not sure if this particular one will work with.. actually I just tested it on my mytouch 4g but that's running cm 7 and it worked fine
You can do this without root, just drop it into /data/local.
Can I install this on my desire using clockwork mod?

so cool how
I'm new for n7 or tablet so xda community What is the benefit to root nexus 7?? Because I know to root my phone benefit like WiFi tether, titanium back up, root explorer and so on... For what use i root? Don't tell me about flash OK ng ROMs because I usually flash my galaxy phone and I enjoy flashing ROMs.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
You seem to already know about rooting and flashing ROMs so in a way, you have already answered your own question.
You get the same benefits as you would on a phone.
One advantage would be to get rid of pesky ads by means of AdFree or AdAway, for which you need root access. You already know the rest.
Cheers!
AdAway, Change Host name, Droid Wall, ES File Explorer, Rom Manager, Titanium Backup, etc...
And if you root your device you can plug in USB memory sticks and they mount and become browsable.
This means you can watch movies and stuff from a memory stick without using up your device memory.
All you need is an app like Stick Mount that is available from Play.

All of the above plus its makes random strangers think you're cool, enables a secret, hidden 'fire breathing unicorn' mode and helps reduce limescale buildup.

I rooted so I can use PPP Widget which allows me to use my 3G modem with nexus (with OTG cable). Then you can customize your N7, i.e. change boot animation, or you can integrate updated system apps in ROM (freeing storage memory) or clean the system with SD Maid. Also, you can flash custom recovery and then flash custom ROMs. Backup your apps/settings with Titanium Bakckup.
That's awesome to use 3g madam with otg cable than men

You can already do this without rooting. I wish people would quit posting that you need root to do this.
You can theme your rom if you flash a custom rom like cm or aokp.
