One thing I've never been able to figure out is how to customise network settings as the automatic Connection Setup has never worked properly for me.
I'm using Virgin Australia as my operator and the connection setup always detects it as Optus and configures it accordingly.
I then have to go into Connections and change the Access Point it uses to connect (instead of 'internet' it's 'VirginInternet') and then it works fine.
Is there some way I can do this via registry key in my SDconfig.txt or hack the connection setup util to do this properly? (I've tried updated versions of the connsetup too but none of them do it properly).
If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.
if you have a virgin mobile simcard that should take care of everything for you.
I do, but it doesn't work as I've mentioned.
Maybe it's something to do with my number originally being ported from Optus to Virgin (though I definitely have a Virgin mobile sim).
Funnily enough, the operator is recognised on the front manila tab as Virgin - it's only in the connection setup that it gets it wrong every time, and I'm sick of having to change this manually every rom install.
If anyone has any solution to this problem, let me know.
So how long have you been dealing with this? Have you been billed by Optus for using their network? If the front page is showing virgin mobile I think you should be good. My old Samsung Blackjack used to say i was on Rogers, when in fact it was on Fido, a subsidy of Rogers.... I would call virgin mobile and Optus if I were you to get this sorted out.
No - I'm not getting billed by Optus.
Reason it's defaulting to Optus is that Virgin are using Optus's network in Australia and basically onselling it or whatever the term is. They're like a virtual provider I guess you could say.
I can't use the settings that are auto-configured - it just won't work at all until I change the access point name.
Unfortunately, knowing this doesn't help me at all - hence why I'm trying to find a way to automatically fix this every time I do a rom install - so if we get back to my original question - does anyone know of any way to change the default access point name via a registry change or any way I can 'fix' the connection setup app to do the right thing for my phone.

I have the same problem, did you find an answer?
Does somone know how to solve this issue?
When I trigger an email update on the phone I continually get a warning asking me if I am okay with using data while roaming?!?!?!
Does the phone automatically think I am roaming because it is Australian? Is there a Windows Mobile Setting somewhere where I can define that my home market is Canada?
Some help here would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks in Advance...
you might try going into the account setup on the automatic send/receive page under advanced settings there is an option to use automatic send/receive schedule when roaming
Thanks for this response...I was hoping for a setting that would change the phone to make Canada as my home market...I am also getting SMS messages showing time 3hrs behind me (i.e. USA West Coast Time...)
Thanks Again, help anyone?!?!?!
Settings -> Regional Settings
Try changing that to your own country?
I wouldn't know otherwise.
Not particularly familiar with Telstra issuses, my phone was from UK running a standard rom with no carrier customisations/carrier lock and running on Optus HSDPA.
Never have these problems - I know i still roam onto the Telstra network eg is train tunnels etc.
Try using the in the Settings/Control Panel -> Connenctions-> Connection Setup. Country = Au, Operator = Telstra.
But I'm not sure if you have that icon since you are carrier locked (i'm guessing) to tel$cum.
If no one else is replying because its a region/carrier/rom specific issue try asking the question @ http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/
hi, does anyone know how to make so that, when i put my "bell" simcard into the xperia, the auto setup would recognize the bell simcard because there is no database for bell. is there a cab for it?
thanks in advance!
If there's no DB entry in the connection setup app for your carrier, it means HTC has never released a phone that was sold by that carrier.
You'll need to enter the data connection settings yourself.
I bought a b-mobile Chameleon SIM(Japan) at this trip and I want use it on My Droid4.
But I have tried any thing what I can do, it still can't get the data connection.
My Droid4 has flashed ICS leak 219 and the voice call and data connection work prefect in taiwan's GSM/UTMS SIM card.
I also modified the username/password at /system/etc/ppp/peers/pppd-ril.options but it still didn't work.
My milestone 3 can work correctly with b-mobile U300 SIM after mod /system/etc/ppp/peers/pppd-ril.options in previous trip.
I have tried 4 device and 6 system with Chameleon SIM, only one device and one system can get connection successfully.
This is devices list:
HTC HD2(WM6.5/ICS4.04)
HTC Sensation (2.36)
HTC Sensation XL(4.03)
Droid4 (ICS leak 219 4.04/hashcode's CM9)
Only HD2 with WM6.5 can get the connection, all the Android got fail result.
But the HD2's Wifi Tether only can work in adhoc mode(WM6.5).
My Droid4 can find my HD2, but HTC Sensation XL(4.03) didn't.
I also contact with b-mobile, they say the record shows that username or password error cause connection fail.
Does any PPP connection logs on Android?
I want to check which username/password my Droid4 use to make connection.
If anyone ever get connection successful with Chameleon SIM, please tell me which settings at your device.

This sounds very similar to the problem I'm having with Vodafone NL actually. But the major difference is that your problem occurs on all Android devices (except Milestone 3), and mine does not.
Do you also get the message "Sorry, this SIM is not supported. Please contact your wireless service provider" when you start or reboot the Droid 4? Or do you get a message like "unknown SIM"?
Do you have the username/password in both your APN settings and the pppd-ril.options file? Can you post the contents of the pppd-ril.options file here?
Also, which provider did you try in Taiwan? FarEasTone, Chungwa, Vibo? I hope Vibo works because that's my Taiwanese provider and I'll be back there later this year!

No,I have sold my milestone3 before this trip.
And I test "bmobile U300" with milestone3 in previous trip, not "bmobile chameleon SIM" in this trip.
The U300 is 3G SIM, Chameleon SIM is 4G.(but the manual said it can support 3G/UTMS)
I didn't see unknown SIM message in CM9 and leak ICS.
My provider is Chungwa telecom.
I have tried set both APN settings and pppd-ril.options file or just in pppd-ril.options file.
It still can't get connection.
And I only modify the username and password in pppd-ril.options:
user [email protected]
password bmobile

Right now I have 2 ideas in mind:
Have you tried forcing the phone to UMTS? My Vibo SIM in Taiwan refuses any connection if I try running it in 2G, it's 3G exclusive. This Chameleon SIM could be 3G/4G only.
After some searching, I found that this Chameleon SIM possibly only supports UMTS on the 2100 MHz band: http://www.japanmobiletech.com/2012/05/b-mobile-amazon-lte-4g-data-sim.html. It is not exactly clear which UMTS bands are supported by the Droid 4. It looks like people expect the 2100 MHz band to be supported for UMTS though. Also you mention the same problem on your HD2 except when WM6.5 is installed, so that doesn't point to a hardware issue for the HD2. But for the Droid 4, it still could be.
I found a related thread (with no replies yet) about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704264
If only 1 out of your 6 configurations can get a connection, it looks to me more like something wrong with the SIM card / provider settings than with the actual phones. But I can't really find more information online because I don't understand Japanese
Have you tried changing PAP/CHAP settings? That did it for me. Had to manually set encryption to CHAP (I think PAP is default). Otherwise no connection. Also had to type "default" for internet type connection.

I forgot to say something:
At previous trip, the U300 SIM can get data connection with all device:
HTC HD2(WM6.5)
HTC Sensation (2.36)
HTC Sensation XL(2.36)
Milestone 3(2.36)
With the same settings, all Android system fail to get connection in this time.
I can see the NTT DOCOMO network shows in my Droid4(CM9), but it can't get connection.
So I think my Droid4 has successfully register to NTT's network, but fail to make data connection.
It maybe something different in 3G and 4G 's data connection certification.
I think the problem is:What username and password Android sent to NTT in make connection process and how does NTT respond Android?
If there has detail logs in get connection process, maybe I cant find what problem is.
Does any APP can do this?

Thanks for your suggest, I set it to PAP or CHAP before.(Users manual said that)
I have tried "CHAP" and "default" after looking your suggest, but it still can't get connection.

Yes, but it shows a lot of other logging as well: you can download "aLogCat" from Google Play. It's a wrapper app around the built-in logcat command in Android, which can be used to show / filter the system log. I used this as well to investigate my data issue (but no luck). Hope you have better luck!
i got the same problem with bmobile - free data SUMAHO
i use this apn settings:
apn: bmobile.ne.jp
user: [email protected]
pass: bmobile
auth: pap or chap
when i check the log with logcat -b radio i get issues with USER_AUTHENTIFACTION and so one
i tried it with the stock-rom, cm 11 with and without GSM-fixes.
i can also get SMS and make phone calls, but data connection fails.
in my iphone 3gs the sim works fine.
are there any news or fixes?
maybe i can use another way to make a connection instead with the RIL-framework?
i actually got it working!
i install "PPP widget" and use this to connect :victory:
i use as (serial)port ttyUSB4
but i think its not the best way, but maybe the only possible
Hi, I just got the Verizon HTC One (FIRST WINDOWS 8 PHONE FOR ME!) and was trying to get everything set up for T-Mobile service. I got regular internet services, but haven't been able to set up MMS APN on it...was hoping someone would have a detailed guide they could provide me on how to get the MMS APN settings field back on this phone? Thank you ahead of time!
Good luck I have at&t and was only able to with a Lumia icon send mms but not receive, there was no way around it, you should have but an ATT M8 you might get closer to setting up mms, but as far as Verizon phones are concerned they don't play well for mms on att in my experience
