can't boot into recovery

After installing the lastest "S.U.R.F.A.C.E" ROM on my GT-I9000 I'm presented with the Galaxy S logo and nothing else,
Tried and tried vol up + home + power number of times now with no avail.
Everything was working fine before was able to boot into clockwork recovery ect, unfortunately I do not have a usb cable so can't try odin any help would be great.

Grab yourself a jig from ebay or the likes, or make one

It will boot into download fine the problem I have is it won't boot into recovery is there any way I can wipe it or does it look like I am in need of a cable?

Then reflash back to stock using Odin

What were you flashing from as surface is an oxeded rom, not dexeded.

oh sorry got the phone of a friend looked like a custom samsung rom, build version was easyprojectv2 if that rings any bells?

Looks like the problem was caused by trying to flash a odexed rom over a deodexed rom, or not having the correct bootloaders for the new rom. Normally before a flash I would return to stock (firmware from sammobiles.com) first via ODIN, do all the wipes, flash a kernel so you have a nice clean install to 'abuse'. Then I would add any custom rom from there be it by ODIN or by cwm.
Grab yourself a usb lead, nice clean flash and start again.

I am also stuck on the same front, i donwloaded rom from samfirmware but it only had PDA part and nothing else, please suggest which official rom should i download??

I would go this way mate, first grab JVT from sammobiles.com ( register first)
Flash that using ODIN
Comes with 3 files, CSC, PHONE and PDA
PDA file goes to PDA in ODIN
PHONE goes into MODEM in ODIN
CSC goes in CSC in ODIN.
Also select PIT file, should be 512 on the PIT section on ODIN, hit start and it will flash then reboot.
Then open ODIN again, connect phone and flash your KERNEL to the PDA section of ODIN.
Then grab this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117579
and flash using cwm.
Your then on JW1 all rooted and ready to play.

put the "APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar" file into the PDA and flashed it. Everything seems to be working fine might stick with the stock for a while never really needed to be rooted.

ok i just popped the SIM and have no network access when i tap on Mobile Networks in the setting it tells me to insert a SIM????

the firmware i had was wrong didnt have a modem. Downloaded a jvt as buttwad said flashed an now everything working perfect now. cheers mate!

[Q] Cannot boot or enter recovery (CM9 20120425)

Flashed today's CM9 nightly as usual through CWM recovery (ultimate-kernel-cleaning-script, ROM, GApps), came to the point of rebooting and am now stuck with the white-on-black Galaxy S GT-I9000, SAMSUNG screen.
I can't get into recovery, but I can get into download mode.
Where should I go from here?

I am in the exact same situation. I really didn't want my first post on here to be a beg for help but I promise I'll contribute after
My computer can detect the device when I plug it in but I can't access it from explorer. I am running good old XP. I have done a bit of googling and it looks like I need Odin so I've got that. How are you doing with it PrinterElf? I'll keep this thread updated with my progress, hopefully it might help you too.

I think you, like me, can get it to boot to download, I can get Heimdall to connect, but have no idea what I should be flashing to get back to recovery again!

I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick and have been flashing new ROMs using ROM Manager so this is the first time I've heard of Heimdall. I'm downloading it now.
I'll let you know if I find those files, I can't find a useful thread anywhere

Followed adsdf's instructions and Odin seemed to think it had done the job. Tried booting into recovery but it's still 'eating a big bowl of boot-loops' I'm not sure if Windows is talking to the phone though so I'm downloading the drivers now (give me a virtual slap if I should have done this already).

I've managed to transfer 'fixrecovery.tar.md5' from Odin so I should be able to flash a ROM in the same way... right? Everywhere I search all I can find is ROMs in zips I've seen threads where people have flashed ROMs in .md5 format using Odin, where are they getting these ROMs? It seems like the solution for me.

@intratech is tar and flashed in PDA(Odin) and i think darkys rom is also a .tar, to one of them

I think in your case it would be best to go back to a stock rom first so you have a clean base to start from.
- Download any rom from
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9000&r=1#regiona
for example I9000XXJVU. these are all odin flashable
- In Odin: "CODE..." or "PDA..." as PDA, "PHONE..." or "MODEM..." as PHONE and "...CSC..." as CSC with PIT 512 with repartition checked
(Im sure you have done this before, right? if not, theres a lot of instructions on that out there)
- after that phone should boot
- flash a proper kernel and rom if you want

Right, back and firing on most cylinders, and this is how I did it!
Download and flash this with Odin

Reboot into download mode again, flash this with Odin

Reboot into CWM recovery
Install CM9 nightly & GApps

Just followed PrinterElf's method and have just rooted my phone again using Odin. I'm about to flash the latest CM9 nightly, I wish I could take the screen unlock with me, it works well on that stock ROM.

You're left with only one option: Odin. Download any stock rom with a stock bootloader to repair your recovery mode,flash it using Odin, then flash a semaphore or midnight control kernel.

kinda same problem
previously was on teamhacksung b17 with gapps 20120304. no MODIFICATIONS!!!
today i updated with the latest nightly (update-cm-9-20120427-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd-signed) with same gapps as above.
after reboot it did some updating gapps and loaded into home screen.
i turned the phone off becoz i wanted to insert the extSD and simcard which i removed before the update process.
second time i booted the phone, it started giving me bootloops. cant go into recovery either. only download mode available.
so i opened odin and put all the files in their places connected the phone in download mode on. windows did not recognize the device..... installed samsung usb drivers v1.4.2.2 ... tried it again. problem has not yet been resolved, any suggestions veteran people.

[Q] Help on downgrading from CM9 to stock GB

Recently I flashed my SGS i9000 to CM10 with CWM and then CM9. Now I want to downgrade to the stock GB rom. Is there any clean instruction to do that? I've searched for a long time to have a clear idea about the exact procedure and found several tutorials. But they are confusing. Some says that I have to use Odin with the re-partition option checked but someone says, don't do that. What exactly should I do? Which version of Oding should I use? Should I flash with Bootloader/ update Bootloader?
Another question is, which is the latest stock GB rom? Please help me providing download link.

How I do it every time:
Go to sammobile.com. From there download XXJW4 (I use it). Unzip it and you'll find just one .tar file.
Also beforehand go find a file named dbdata.rfs (I think it is).
Open Odin with your phone connected in download mode. Click on PDA and navigate to the .tar file.
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT THAT.
Press start. Give it a moment while it flashes everything in.
Now your phone will boot- in a bootloop. Dom't worry. Take the battery out, reconnect and go into download mode. Connect and open Odin.
Again, click on PDA and find dbdata.rfs. Again, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE.
Press start. It'll flash in that one file.
Done.

Kernel Version 3.0.15 Hydra Core V7
BUILD Number : IMM76D.XXLRQ
Running on 4.0.4 ICS
Boots takes too long in "samsung Galaxy Note n7000" and the "Samsung" it takes 10-15mins
my main problem is , that Baseband is unknown, Media/Video Player, Camera, Phone Contacts, Phone are not responding .
and in home always says "Process System is not responding"
the keyboard is not responding too, i cant even access aboutphone>Status .
and it keeps restarting,
what should i do?

Are you rooted ? If so, Make a backup of your apps with titanium backup, then, providing your on a safe kernel, Boot into recovery and do a factory reset.
If you are not on a safe kernel, then download one and flash it, Philz kernel can be flashed in stock recovery, Hydracore can be flashed via odin, the choice is yours.
Let me know if the issues persist after the reset.

when you go to about phone> can you see you IMEI number?

Yes, where can i download titanium?, im using hydracore v7, how can i flashed it in stock ?

its really difficult to answer when you make 3 thread with the same issue. by the way as per previous thread, have you flashed a new firmware using Odin???

Titanium u can find on google play.
N as nokiamodel says first flash a philz kernel on yr phone .
Wipe all 3 major elements n the flash a stock samsung ics firmware of yr region via odin.
N mainly if u want yr phone in good condition stick onto 1 thread which u ve created.

which ROM did you flash? It seem you are still on the OLD rom.
Phil is a guy who makes safe stock kernels ( great) .. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
when you flash the new rom check the BUILD Number eg: as you have now "IMM76D.XXLRQ" so download the LRQ kernel from his thread. If you flash a latest one then as per the eg above.

i tried to flash Rocket Rom together with Hydracore but it doesnt work so i flash ICS again in Pc Odin, and flash Hydracore OC,.
so i think i have the OLD rom?,

its the first time i saw it , baseband is ok now but later on unknown again.
i can see my IMEI and IMEISV,

now dial *#1234# on the dialer and see

now that the baseband unknown i can't access phone status again ,
i cant go to dial it goes to phone contacts, i cant type nor the keyboard show

also go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645202 and download the XXLR1 modem and place it on the internal SD. and install mobile odin.
open mobile odin and choose the modem.bin file you downloaded in modem section and flash it

i dont have mobile odin, i use cwm and Pc Odin.

you can use CWM to flash it as well.
Mobile odin is installed just as any other app, put on internal storage and install the apk

Help me, my galaxy note N7000 died...(Formware upgrade ancountered an issue.)

Hello everybody.
I have a problem in my gt-N7000.
I tried to install the CM10, install normal.
I installed Gapps also normal.
When I went to wipe it crashed.
Now no more enters recovery mode, download mode only.
When I turn it only gets in this mensage:
"Formware upgrade ancountered an issue. Pease select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I've tried to pass other Stock Roms via Odim, but always hangs Odim.
I do not know what else to do, will my phone still has solution?

And have you tried that recovery mode in Kies?

Yes, but the Kies does not recognize and is carrying the cel.
I made a DESBRICK him, and now he is going into Recovery mode.

Unfortunately I do not know which kernel was using, but I was the Official Rom 4.0.3.
I'm downloading now the site of the kernel SamMobile'll try and pass via Odin.
If it does not work, post the error here ok?

I do not know if I can answer all your questions ... I did not root the phone.
I tried going through the kernel odin said that he caught up and in factoryms.img, as stated in the attached image.
Do not know if this is of great relevance but I can not give Wipe the recovery mode, it also crashes and resets the phone.

2. The place where odin is stuck could indicate a brick. So you need to be precise in the info you give.
3. Did you use cwm.zip to install the rom directly on a non rooted phone?

If ODIN is working for you,
Get your mobile flashed with Philz Kernel by putting the TAR file on PDA.
Enter Philz Kernel in recovery and flash a ROM of your choice.
If you can't then u r a superbrick.

I did what you said.
Enter the field arquivo.pit PIT odin and rom in PDA. I marked the re-partition option and it hangs in the same place.
Will my cell phone died?

Seems you system partition got corrupted. Do you have warranty?

I was also thinking that. Unfortunately it is no longer under warranty.
The techniques assists solve this kind of problem?

Do you still have access to recovery? If yes is it cwm recovery or stock android 3e recovery?
