Within the next week I will be getting a new phone. My current Hero is rooted with a custom ROM installed that I need to reset back to completely stock. That is one problem. The other problem is that my SD Card is not working at all. I need to know how to revert to completely stock without the use of an SD Card. Any help is amazingly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
Go to the HTC website. Download the 2.1 update for the hero. Run it and your done.

Miui has been ported to the vibrant and is currently in alpha. Porting that to the captivate shouldnt be too hard right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951291
It really is not hard to do on your own but a request has been sent for permission to post a port.

Is it any harder than "porting" an i9000 rom? Because that i can do
Normally no but I have not tried it yet so either wait for a while and I will let you know if it works or you can try for yourself. I would suggest that you just boot it as is then flash a kernel and modem though as swapping first does result in problems sometimes.

Edit....will have to work on it later as I am on the road and first attempt was unsuccessful.
Me too. I got stuck on the vibrant screen
Edit: Can't get into download or recovery mode.
Edit: Edit: I finally got download mode

I flashed speedmod and jk4 but cell signal is not working, SD card issues, etc. WiFi works though.

Give us some detail as too how you go about trying to install it. Where you download it too....etc..
Sigh ... Again?!?
Search for the error you see. That's usually a good idea.

Go to mobiletechvideos.com there is a three part video on how to install a rom, what you are doing is completely wrong ... Before you do the steps in the video you're gonna have to do the fix I posted earlier.
Sorry for being a little rude earlier. I just assumed that was your issue cause that's all I've seen this week for some reason.
No problem
I'll look that up. Thanks

It's all in the videos, just make sure you mod the 3e recovery first or you will get a signing error and the install will fail.
Ok does it say how to mod 3e rec. I'm not sure how to do that

So your phone is on Gingerbread? And you downloaded the official stock ICS update rom?
What is the file name that you downloaded? How big is it?
It was on gingerbread but my mom thought she was helping and went and did the install so I think it may have deleted the file now

So she "did" the install on your phone (over the air update?) but the install didn't start yet? I don't think the situation is clear yet. What would you like to do, and what symptoms are getting in your way?

I had it downloaded and just set to install later but while my mom was using my phone saw the update and hit install now. So now phone is running 4.0. What I was winding to do was try and extract the update to use for later if I needed to.

Just do this if you want to ever go back to ics stock
1) Download this ruu: http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe I got the download from here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-vivid-att/software-updates
2) just double click file it downloads when ever you want to go back to stock...it will walk you through the process
Extra info:
-ruu stands for Rom update utility
-it is the official stock ics
-no, your warranty won't be voided by using it...
-it can only be used on windows
-it will delete all your apps and everything (except for stuff on your sd and external sd...like any thing you downloaded from a browser or put on your phone through USB)
-it takes a while...if it gets stuck do not unplug just wait it out
-if your freaking out cause its taking so long just ask in the q&a section for advice

So I tried unlocking/rooting/flashing my phone for the first time this morning, and and after installing a 3 muskateers ROM, my phone not only thinks its a HTC one, i can't even access my SD card through USB, I have to go through recovery. It's very tiring, and I've already tried so many things. Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's true that there are many threads that relate to SD cards, but none that I can find that have the same problem. My ROM works more or less, with a few bugs, but accessing the SD card either from the phone or from a computer doesnt work. What should I do?

Thanks heaps, I got it working in the end.
I've followed the instructions below for installing jelly bean and my phone will do everyhing but once I flash the jelly bean ROM (and I've tried 3 different ones) they all get stuck at the boot screen. The phone is unlocked, rooted, has ext4recovery, blackrose, sd partitioned . Current ROM is cm 10 and its sitting at the cm screen. It will go into fastboot. Everything was done according to the instructions. What is missing. Please help me. Been working on it for hours.
Thank you

Is your partition layout 268/168/0? Can't really read it on that small picture. If it is, then there's your problem. Or do you have an ext-partition for A2SD on your µSD-card for userdata?
Unfortunately, no it is an 8. Darn. I also do not have that other thing you asked installed on the card.
I just can't quite understand why it appears that everything is set up right but just gets stuck at that boot screen.
Please if you can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

So it's 268/160/8 ? Then there's still your problem. It should be 268/8/160 [system/cache/userdata].
Thank you soooo much!! I have a question. How do I change it ? I wonder how come it isn't right.. But, most importantly I am grateful for you helping me.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
You can change it by using blackrose.exe or by flashing one of these partition layouts in your recovery.
I believe they are not all on the front page, so search inside that topic too if you can't find your preferred partition layout.

Resize BlackRose (system : 260, cache: 8 , the rest will automatically be set to userdata).
And install 4EXT recovery on your phone and re-partition your SD card. That is what tommert38 has mentioned over there. You need atleast 1 GB of space in order to install apps onto your SD card.
recovery flashable zip of 260/8/168
