Im from Sri Lanka I brought Galaxy Note from India can I update to 2.3.6????
have a similar question.
bought the polish (not the PLUS) version from HANDTEC. am in the USA.
still says "no update available" if i do the settings->about phone->software update->update.
do we need to use KIES for this? which KIES version works best with the Galaxy Note?
any help would be hugely appreciated! c",)

It is still not officially realesed for india, you have to w8 to get update on kies/OTA
you can flash with odin at presently to get 2.3.6

2 weeks ago I connected my GNote to mycomputer, Kies Started and notify me by a new firmware update is available , Then I select yes.
Don't upgrade to 2.3.6, since I get this update I feel my GNote become slow, even slower than Galaxy S II.
I want to remove it, and downgrade it But I don't know how? GNote performance on 2.3.5 was better and faster

I upgraded this morning to 2.3.6 as have had a few random reboots with 2.3.5 lately. No speed issues for me, just as fast and smooth with 2.3.6 as before. No 'features' discovered yet either. It also scores the same as before on Antutu bench marking.
As for how to, this is an over the air update, no Kies involved. I simply did a manual check for updates this morning and installed it.

Android 2.3 is only available in Italy at the moment, Its not EU wide.
This has been discussed many many times.
Check your countries official Samsung website, when its available it will be on news page.
Just update it using the Father of Thor if you can't wait dude.

A friend of mine had visited me yesterday to update his tab with kies.
After I saw there was only firmware JMJ in Kies, I told him to update to Stock Kernel 2.3.3.
Now he is so happy....
By the way...
Does the 2.2.1 JMJ Europe Update have a locked bootloader?

I have purchased galaxy tab 7.0 ,, p1000 yesterday !
I know its too late but its OK , its not for me any way
but I tried to update the tab to android 2.3 , but it seems something is wrong
I have downloaded the latest kies from Samsung website , then I have connected my P1000 , and every thing is going fine , but the kies says this is the latest firmware!!
what does that mean?
I know how to root the device and how to get the update but I don't want to!
why I can't just update it officially from kies?? I live in Saudi Arabia , but is it really a problem?? as far as I know its available for everyone now
any suggestions?

keis looks at your model number. so it's saying you have the latest software released for your model. most of what you see on here is people rooting and putting whatever they want on thier tablets. rooting is when you hack your computer to get low-level system access. which voids your warrenty. and android is linux so you should be familiar with how a linux os works and your tablets hardware.

Keis would only reject models from certain places.
or your model is not on the roll out yet too.
samsung is a wierd company. good but wierd.
go into your configs and look at about your device,
and see what model and revision it is.

I'm in Saudi Arabia too and i'm also not getting any update while other people in Saudi Arabia have updated their Tabs from KIES

Gingerbread is definitely not available everywhere just yet. Unavailable here on my Aussie Tab for example.
It's possible that you're Tab is coded to a carrier/region and would therefore be ineligible. For example, I have a GT-P1000T (nothing on the outside will tell you this. Try checking the box) which means I can't get the upgrade. Same goes for other models such as the 1000R/B/K type models. This could be an issue.
Also, if you're Tab is locked to a network, your carrier might have to sign off on the upgrade first.

Yeah, got the ****s wirth waiting for Telstra to release an update, went with ODIN instead, never looked back...
Apparently as I was browsing the telstra site yesterday, there is an upgrade available for the Telstra GT-P1000T now available for download through Kies.... If you are game...

Me neither! I too got the Handtecski version
If you got the Handtec edition you have to change your CSC to XEU (for UK) from KOR for Kies / OTA to recognise your device as being eligible for updates.
You can do this (WARNING: This will factory reset your phone) by going into the dialer and typing:
*#272*IMEI#
(where IMEI is your phones IMEI as found in Settings > Status)
This should give you a menu of CSC to choose from. XEU is UK which is eligible for the Kies update right now, others will probably follow soon if they havent already. If you leave it at KOR it will never update as KOR is the no-mans land of CSC.
When is the KOR one going to have an update? Is it safe to just wait for the official one without changing anything? Asking on behalf of a friend who is peranoid which i understand cause we paid 700 for these damn things. Mine came from Germany so i have the update, he is still waiting for his.
Friends just noticed a new firmware pop up at sammobiles... GT-N7000 N7000UBKK8 ...not sure if its an ics leak...any confirmations?

Same here... I got it with the infamous KK8 kernel too...
Mine is from Telcel (México)
Have you tried to downgrade and then root with another kernel?

Hello guys! 2 days ago gave me the mini s3 ...! Checking .. I have seen that still has firmware 4.1.1 and baseband i8190xxall2! ..
I read that there updated firmware ... but connecting the cell to kies .. I do not detect any update ... and even through ota!
What should I do .. x update to version 4.1.2?

What country your in? Maybe there's no update available in your region yet, or if you hawe sim locked phone with specific firmware from your carrier.

Be more specific....in some countries the still in 4.0.4 v.......so
where you from and this is official rom....or flashed rooted???/

check if your carrier got the update, Italy might have gotten the update on certain carriers and yours might still not be on the list.
why you don't try to install it manually. ..I did the same way with my phone

Italy got 4.1.2 update (ITV)
But if you got your phone branded or sim locked there is still just 4.1.1
Vodaphone (OMN) 4.1.1
TIM (TIM) 4.1.1
H3G (HUI) 4.1.1
Root your phone to get the latest updates.
