Hi guys, excuse me for my bad English
I have HTC IS from UK and now I'm in US and already get a sim-card from AT&T
Unfortunately, the seller told me the data plan will not work in my phone because it's not American device or not from AT&T :/
I don't know if I can input the at&t apn settings manually to pick up data and mms?
I hope anyone can help me on this one

Yes you can manually input the AT&T APN settings on the IncS. Since you have a European IncS, you don't have the HSPA bands to get 3G, but the settings will connect using EDGE. Just search this forum for the AT&T APN settings.
I already try to put it manually but it doesn't work :/
I planning to buy Galaxy S II Skyrocket from ebay (cheaper that the store). Also, the phone is brand new from AT&T (the logo in the phone)
When I asked the seller about will the data work or not, he said it will not work!
It must be in a contract and also it's 4G...! :/
What does he mean by that?!
The skyrocket is a LTE phone I think so it uses a different similar card.

hey guys, I bought an HTC HD7 phone off of a guy that brought his fone over from the UK and I'm on a rogers carrier so I can't get a 3G connection due to the diff bands I guess, so if I bought an HD7 phone off of a guy on a Bell carrier and I unlocked it, would I be able to get that 3G connection? cuzz this edge crap is driving me nuts! I have a great data plan and I wanna take advantage of it by streaming my fav radio stations and stuff like that....or is there a way of getting 3g on my current phone? cuzz I entered all the APN settings and still no 3G!!
ok so I'm guessing with the non responses that this cant be done, as I thought since the last 2 years bell switched to GSM AND CDMA to accommadate the iPhone users of their customers...which is why I was thinking I can use a bell HTC HD7 phone on a rogers account. CAN ANYONE confirm or deny if its possible? aaanyone?
ok thx for nothing guys...
as long as the 3G bands match, 3G should work.
couldn't find the 3G frequency bands for either Rogers or Bell Mobility in my quick google search.
but i believe AT&T and Rogers use the same 3G bands, so an HTC HD7S should work if you can find one.
I have a hd7 on bell. If I can find a friend on Rogers I will try swapping the SIM cards and seeing if that works.
wonderful! thx guys appreciate it...

quick google/bing search shows both Bell and Rogers use 850/1900..so yes, long as it's unlocked it should work just dandy
great sound kool, thx for the info
I'm using an unlocked Bell HD7 on fido (rogers), and 3G works great!

Hello,
I have just purchased an unlocked international version of the Galaxy s3 from newegg.ca
I'm not allowed to post the link to the product as I am a new member.
Before I bought it I noticed that it will work on Rogers (in Canada, where I am from) so I went ahead and ordered it. I went back to the site a few days later and noticed that in the details it says that this phone will only work on the AT&T 3g network. In Canada we don't use AT&T so basically I am stuck with a smart phone that I can't connect to a data network with. A useless phone. I can send it back and get a refund so it's really not a big problem. I am wondering however, if there is a way that I can get the phone to work on a rogers network? Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to send it back? Thanks.

So i am unsure about your carrier networks over there, but usually when a phone is locked to a carrier here in Australia, you really just need to pay an unlocking fee to use the other networks. Sure there might be some difference between their networks, but overall you should be able to get a working phone, maybe just not on the fastest mobile infrastructure.

Hey thanks. It is already unlocked. But for some reason, which I don't understand, the 3g will only work with AT&T networks. I'm sure there is a way to fix it if it's rooted or something like that but I just don't know how.
strange, according to wikipedia both AT&T and Rogers use 850/1900MHz for their 3G, so if you buy a phone for the AT&T network, the 3G should work fine on Rogers..

yeah I wish I could post the link to the product. I even called the company and they said it would be AT&T only. I guess this is why noobs should just stick to carriers and contracts.. I can't sign a contract because I may be headed overseas (hence the international version of the phone) but I am just not knowledgeable enough to navigate this situation without risk, I suppose
My carrier is T-Mobile , and I am in USA
I am in the market to buy an s3 mini, I noticed on ebay that there are sellers in hong kong selling new s3 mini for cheap, around $260. What is the difference? Are they fake s3 mini?
This is their description for the phone....
1. Phone is UNLOCKED, no contract required, just insert your SIM card and you are ready to go, phone can be used with any GSM carriers in the world.
2. No worries about the Internet and Multimedia Messages Settings. We will set the phone up for AT&T or T-mobile users, If you still cannot access to Internet, we will send you detailed instructions how to setup manually, it just take few minutes. Please indicate your carrier in the PayPal Note when you make payment.
3. We will restore the phone to original program for customers who are outside of US.
4. WORK ON AT&T US & T-MOBILE US, AND OTHER GSM NETWORKS: FIDO / ROGERS CANADA, VODAFONE / O2 / ORANGE / T-MOBILE UK AND OTHER GSM NETWORKS AROUND THE WORLD!!!

i think you should be asking t-mobile this sort of question
I think it will work. I don't know about US, but i think WiFi hotspot is not carrier dependent. If you buy it unlocked it will work on any gsm network. Also regarding eBay if seller has 99 or more percent rating its safe buy.
Also if you don't care about CM I think you should get this: http://phandroid.com/2013/05/29/t-mobile-samsung-galaxy-exhibit/

i spoke with the seller, he says all the s3 mini come factory unlocked and they go up to 3g only, NOT 4G, is this correct? again i have t-mobile usa, currently where i live on my blackberry bold 9900 i have 4G

So it have to be legit, if it's branded.
Ok, so it's normal S3 Mini phone.
And no, S3 Mini doesn't have 4G (LTE).
Hi guys.. I searched around and couldn't get find a solution.. hence the post.. apologies in advance if I'm asking a stupid question/already answered question. I'm visiting xda after a couple of years so haven't really kept up with the happenings...
Anyways.. here is my predicament.
1. I originally had an iphone 4s on AT&T.. which means LTE wasn't "activated" on the data plan.
2. I bought a sony xperia Z1 C6906.. which from what I understand is compatible with AT&T LTE bands
3. I called AT&T and they registered the xperia's IMEI and the new sim I put into it. However, they said it only showed up a generic gsm phone.. and they weren't sure if the new IMEI for a "non-ATT phone" would actually kick me into "LTE allowed" plan. For those who don't know, when you buy a phone from AT&T.. they automatically allocate a "type" of data plan and it is non-LTE if the phone you get is a non-LTE device.. (like the iphone 4s I had).
4. Anyway.. so I'm getting HSPA+.. I have the default apn settings that the phone automatically downloaded. Not getting LTE at all.
5. I put the sim from my friend's ATT LTE phone.. and LTE popped up on the status bar.. no issues.. so I know the hardware is good.
6. Are there any apn settings that is customized for the xperia z1 C6906 that'll get me LTE? What are my solutions here?
Thank you.
I'm was in a similar boat as you here. Here's what I had to do to get LTE provisioned on my account.
1. Get an IMEI number for an at&t LTE phone (I used a note 2 from an at&t store)
2. Call at&t and switch your IMEI
3. They should now be able to provision your account with LTE
Funny thing is when I called at&t with my C6906 Z1's IMEI, they said it was coming up as a blackberry without LTE. I told him to leave the old Note 2 IMEI in there.
You can find apn settings by doing a quick search, but you need to have it provisioned first.

Thank you for your response. I have a few more questions..
1. say if I use my friend's IMEI ..of a phone that is currently ON AT&T.. will that affect his line in any bad way? Are IMEIs tied to an account? can there be 2 different lines with the same IMEI on them?
2. Also.. does the phone whose IMEI I would be using.. have to be physically with me? (meaning will it only get "accepted" into the AT&T system after I've put my sim into it and rebooted the phone or something?)

I feel sorry for all you AT&T folks - that is the most convoluted and time consuming method I've seen to get LTE working...
I thought Rogers up in Canada is bad, but after reading your solution, I guess we Canadians should be thankful. For us, as long as both the SIM and Phone support LTE, it should work. Rogers used to charge extra for LTE service - not sure if they still do. (I am with Telus)
Canadian carriers don't really care about the phone at all - unless its been stolen of course. And carrier locking...
got it to work finally!.. yea.. had to get an original AT&T sanctioned LTE phone's IMEI number.. and then the sim could be used into sony xperia with LTE... whew!
this obviously is not a situation someone who already has AT&T LTE will face.. only applicable to those who are going from non-LTE phones to Sony Xperia.
Thanks y'all.

Nope. I don't have any generic firmwares or even root.

That is absolutely horrid. I've been with AT&T for a while and didn't have to do that at any point. Glad you got it fixed but it's something that shouldn't have existed in the first place.

He does not need an AT&T modem flashed on his device. That would most likely result in a brick.
OP: Try dialing *#2263# and make sure automatic is selected. Also go into setting, mobile networks and set it to LTE/GSM/WCDMA

Ok you need to give ATT the IMEI number from one of their LTE android devices. Just go to the store to get one from one of the demo devices. Then your account will be provisioned for LTE.

The guy above is correct, you need at&t to register your imei into their network to access their LTE.... They should do it for you no problem, just give them a call....however I wouldn't be surprised if they don't! Another way is to find someone with an extra LTE phone and just activate that imei and your LTE should pop up

If he registers his T-Mobile S5 on AT&T he will still have problems. AT&T won't recognize the T-Mobile IMEI number, and therefore it will list as a GSM device.
He needs to find an IMEI number of one of AT&T's LTE android devices. Once he has called AT&T CS and have had them provision his account for LTE, then he can just pop in his AT&T sim card to his T-Mobile S5. He'll get LTE then.

Just wondering where did you unlock the phone from and how long did it take to get the unlock code?
Thanks for everyone's help. I am good to go.
I took a SIM from another LTE device. I think it does need to be registered as a IMEI from an ATT device and that was the problem.

Now that you are getting AT&T LTE on the T-Mobile variant, can you please comment on LTE signal strength? This is a deal breaker for me. When I had the TMO Note 3 on AT&T, LTE reception sucked. If you can compare it with an AT&T branded phone, that would be great.
Another person using the G900T. Congrats
My experience is that coverage is just as good if not better. Same radio, same antenna, I wouldn't expect it to be any different?
The TMO GS5 has all the needed ATT LTE Bands no need for a radio flash, I'm using one on ATT now, have gotten LTE from day 1, as stated only requirement is the sim has to be originally activated on a LTE ATT device and that the APN is set properly.
What kind of speed is everyone getting with the tmo s5 on att network? I have an att s5 next to a tmo s5 and att s5 is getting 50mbps vs tmo at 20mbps. I am wondering if I needed to configure something on the tmo devices?

APN is exactly the same as AT&T one. Reception is also same as AT&T one but the speed is a show stopper if it's half the speed. Any one have any ideas?

I would also like to do this, but I just want to clarify something. I just bought an AT&T S5. Brand new, unopened, still in the box. I want to swap it for a T-Mobile S5, as the bootloader is unlocked. If I keep the AT&T SIM card before I sell it, and put it into the new Tmo S5, will I have any foreseeable issues? Will it work just like that, or will I need to retrieve something from my S5 before I swap it?
Thanks.
EDIT: I should clarify that the device is unactivated, and when I do activate it, I will be porting my existing number from Verizon.
