Xrecovery unable to enter!! - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

tried to use xrevcovery to install froyopro today but i cant enter xrecovery , when i see the SE i spammed back but it just hangs the phone so i remove the battery and tried again for like 5 times but nothing happened , then i try to enter my gingerdxx fearing it might got corrupted but it's still fine ...but why cant i enter xrecovery?

Really? I couldn't enter xRecovery too when I was on GDX v018, v019 and v020.
Just install another CWM ROM if you can enter CWM.

but iwas able to use xrecovery just a few days / hours ago ..and now i cant ..is there a prolbem with my xrecovery? i cant enter CWM also and ccwm (installed version ) don't have x8 option in it's list T.T ...without xrecovery i cant backup my phone anymore!! is there any alternative or solution? just wondering ...is there a diff between xrecovery and cwm?

tohno ... since you wrote in another thread that you installed ROM Manager ...
ROM MANAGER IS NOT MEANT FOR THE XPERIA X8!
This program is ONLY for genuine CyanogenMod ROMs on a selected range of devices... so... that should actually answer your question why you can't select the X8 in the list of devices.
As for being unable to enter xRecovery ...
a) GingerDX comes with Dual-Recovery by default. This means that BOTH, xRecovery and ClockworkMod recovery, are already installed. You DO NOT need to manually install any of them ... if you do, or did, you will only wreck the installed ones.
b) xRecovery does NOT work on the LinuxDX kernel, and will most likely also not work on all the other custom kernels as well as they don't have xRecovery built into the kernel but only CWM.
Conclusion: If you're on GingerDX and already messed around with the recoveries ... re-flash GingerDX and full-wipe.
If you're on Stock 2.1.1.A.0.0 or 2.1.1.C.0.0 use Flashtool to inject xRecovery into the ROM.
EDIT: Another reason why xRecovery may not work... any chance you messed with busybox?
If you updated the default busybox version that ships with GingerDX - or the original xRecovery installation - you may face problems!

confused a little...but i was able to enter recovery many times before when i was still using GDX
abou a) well i need xrecovery to install GDX in the 1st place...so it's a must for me to install xrecovery
b) i never messed with the kernel!
so i guess i have to reflash then...but how to or what is reflash?? is it means i have to do the xrecovery process all over again?

Depends on what you did ...
If you somehow messed around with the files of the recoveries in your current GingerDX (or whatever else) ROM installation you better re-flash GingerDX (or whatever ROM you're currently using) to undo the changes you may have done to the OS. This means: reboot into CWM and simply re-flash update-GingerDX-v020.zip

i cant even enter CMM!! i click reboot to CWM but then it just reboots like normal ...

help plz i really need to enter CMW and xrecovery ...

I've never used FlashTool but would that work?
Leave a thanks if I helped!

not sure...i dunno whats flash tool anyways >.< n still when i try to enter CMw or xrecoery my phone just hangs ...so i take out the battery

reflash ur firmware and root with superoneclick

whill i lose my mod if i do that?

even i havent face situation to use flashtool yet,i guess so,but since u sAid u cant enter into cwm/xrecovery anymore so flash ur phone and u can root again and install ur rom, root with superoneclick

hey guys, I got a small problem. I want to restore my data onto a new ROM without restoring system settings. Is this possible using xrecovery? Because when I restore data, even the system settings I had on my previous ROM gets restored, and I can't change the setting manually on the new ROM because it doesn't have that particular function in the new ROM.....thanx in advance

[Q] Each ROM stuck at boot screen

Hi, this is my first thread.
I tried to install GingerCruzt 8.4 on my X8 but failed. I am on stock 2.1 ROM which is rooted and xRecovery installed.
I don't understand where I was wrong.
1. Boot into recovery
2. Full wipe
3. Choose install custom zip
4. Again full wipe (also tried without this)
5. Reboot
6. Stuck at boot screen (picture with girl and title GingerCruzt) for looong time (15-20 mins)
Do I need to wait longer?
I also read many threads about this but didn't find solution.
Also tried to install FroyoBread 023b via xRecovery but same thing happend.
CWM Recovery came with FroyoBread and I tried to instal GingerDX 021 but no luck. Same problem.
What is the solution if it is solvable?

Tried full wipe but did not help. Maybe I missed something?
But I think you must!

Can be problem a busybox (1.17.2)? When I rooted phone I installed busybox by coping it to /system/bin without installing it via market (this tutorial youtube.com/watch?v=sJIU5qIdC-w). Same i did with chargemon and xrecovery. Now I find that busybox needs to be installed via market.
Is there a diference betwen chargemon in this tutorial above and that one in stock ROM.

I tried to repair with PCC, again.
Rooted with SuperOneClick folowing this tutorial (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046605).

[Q] sgs cwm recovery problem

hello .
i am using galaxy s i9000 , with stock ddjv9 , n speedmod kernel .
i flashed speedmod kernel n i was able to reboot into cwm recovery using 3 buttons .
then i installed rommanager from market but it was not recoznising the cwm recovery version , so i flashed cwm recovery again frm rom manager .
but when i select reboot into recovery or back up rom frm rom manager it reboots to stock 3e recovery , n doesnt perform any backup .
i can still boot into cwm recovery 2.5.1.2 using 3 buttons .
plzz help . i want to use rom manager to perform backup .
Forget from manager and you your recovery to perform a backup. It's called a nandroid back up, it saves your whole system in its current configuration.
You restore this backup if something goes wrong and you can't boot up to your home, but you can still use recovery. If you want to backup apps and stuff then use other means such as titanium backup. If you want specific backups then let me know and I will give you a list of what i use.
As far as I know rom manager does the same thing however automates it so you don't have to go to recovery and go through the selections. Another thing you may need to be aware of is if rom manager doesn't recognise your recovery, any backup you attempt to make may be corrupt and un usable. If you want to fix recovery you may need to reflash your kernal. Not just CWM. This should retain all data and settings.
Hop that helps

But i cant do back up frm cwm recovery too . Its reboots into 3e recovery n nothing happens .
I want to use rommanager to flash custom roms after making a backup .
So my main aim is to make cwm recovery working thru rom manager .
My rommangaer can detect cwm recovery . After i selected flash recovery frm rommanager. But cant reboot into it or do other functions.
Plz help. With steps to perform.

i have same problem i think .
1. i tried to install a new rom downloaded it and put it into phone & sd card.
2. i have tried to apply update from sdcared first i found it it seems to run fine but after that phone keep turning on seeing "galaxy s i9000 " and than showing it again in loop .
3. i can get into clockworkmod recover v 3.0.0.5 by pression those 3 buttons.
4 . when i plug it into the computer i cannot do anything with the data.
hope someone can help me.

Are you saying when you use the 3-button combo to get to this recovery it works, but then trying to make a backup does not work??

So what your saying is although rom manager detects it (recovery), it is useless as you cannot get into it to make a backup via rom manager
I suggest first go to manage apps and clear data for rom manager>>>open up rom manager>>>make a backup.
*CWM not detected?>>>flash via Rom manager>>>Backup...Remember because you are on stock your device is Galaxy S not Galaxy SMTD. As i believe MTD is for cyanogen based roms (I am 99% sure of this)
*If this still does not work, clear data again>>>do not open Rom manager but turn off phone>>>go to recovery (via 3-button combo)>>>Backup/restore>>>backup
If that does not work then Reflash your kernal as you did before, or any other kernal that you want that is compatible with stock roms. You will probably need Odin flashable kernals as your CWM is not working. You can try flash the kernal via rom manager, not sure what the result of this would be if CWM is not being installed properly. Instructions for installing the kernal will be from where ever you download the kernal.
So all the above should enable you to bypass Rom manager for the backup, or fix the backup/recovery which should fix the rom manager backup/compatibility whatever issues, Hopefully

What do you mean the phone runs fine?? Did it ever boot up properly, as in get you to the home screen??
Have you tried reflashing the rom via recovery as you said it works...
If you use ADB you should be able to transfer back and forth, but there is a fairly long winded process to set it all up! However after this it should be easy..
If that doesn't work restore your backup which you should always make before flashing! (Im guessing your in this situation because you didn't do that? )
So if you don't have a back-up get an odin flashable rom either from stock firmware on sammobile.com or from the general forum where Ramad has made an extensive collection. Also you could flash DarkyROM 10.2 RE Odin ROM which is a custom rom and odin flashable..
I have heard frm sumwhere that we have to apply some update.zip two time to make cwm recovery working on sgs. Is it true ?

Have not heard of this... Sometimes you do have to flash roms twice that have kernals to avoid problems which may be what you are talking about. All custom kernals use CWM as it has many extra features. If you follow the instructions of the rom/kernal you should never have any problems.

It should work, possibly its a problem with the kernal I'm not sure. But I can say that every time i have installed and used Rom manager (I dont usually use it, so i uninstall it ) I have had to re-install CWM. What happens is i get a popup telling me to install the latest CWM, I then have to pick my device, I do so and then the pop up just disappears and all downloads are available to me. So in my case it doesn't even look like it installs anything as it doesn't reboot etc.
Soooo the answer is that it will probably tell you that you need to install the latest CWM, so just follow the prompts and if it installs the latest then great. Hopefully it will work after this. If it doesn't you may have to try a more recent kernal. If that still doesn't work, then use Odin to flash a rom.
Odin flashable custom rom that usually never fails for anyone This rom is usually recommended to people with problems. After this you should have CWM and be able to use Rom manager like it should be used

Why are you so attached to rom manager?? You think its safe? Probably agree but you may have to dump it for the first flash and then get back to it once you can get it working.. If changing kernals doesn't work then it may be your stock rom, and to change will either have to be odin or a zip via recovery...
Hopefully all goes well, Good Luck
REALISATION...
This is all because you cannot get a backup... If the above does not work then forget the backup and just flash the rom via rom manager. Because even if you have the backup you wont be able to use it as you don't have a CWM recovery right??
The apps i use for backup
App list backup
Sms backup and restore

[Q] Bootloop after flashing Achotjan-Semc-Debrand-Engine-V1.0_Final_E15i

Hello xda developers,
I have searched in your whole forum but i can´t find a solution for my problem.
I´ve rooted my x8, installed xRecovery, Rootexplorer and installed a android 2.2.1 custom rom. Everything worked. Then i decided to install the Achotjan-Semc-Debrand-Engine-V1.0_Final_E15i. I did a factory reset, wipe cache, dalvick and battery stats. Then i flashed the rom.
Problem: While rebooting i got a bootloop. Even worse: i don´t get back in the xrecovery menu !!! I pushed the back button nearly 100 times but it doesen´t work.
Question: How can i get back in the xrecovery ?
Because you need nAa kernel and you need to flash the ROM in CWM recovery.

[Q] Questions for 2012 SE X8 Phone

Hi there,
I have a sony xperia x8
with the specs of:
firmware 2.1 update1
baseband version ending in 015
kernel version 2.6.29 [email protected] #1.
Manufactured in 2012
I have already rooted my xperia x8 and I have got xrecovery on it.
I have recently discovered that you cannot get bootloader on phonemodels manufactured after 11w30 so I guess I am out of luck.
1.What are the requirments to use a custom rom on your xperia x8 android?
2.Do you need to have a unlocked bootloader in order to use custom roms?
3.Do you need a custom kernel such as alfs kernal to get custom roms?
4.Will there ever be a bootloader for models in the 2012 series?
5.What is a stock kernel? and a kernel? And what's the difference?
6.With a rooted phone with xrecovery on it am I still able to get roms on it? If so could someone link me to a gingerbread 2.3.7DX because I'm a bit confused on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486 which says you must have bootloader alfs kernel etc when I have neither only rooted and xrecovery and I just want a custom rom gingerbread 2.3.7DX is to my liking or any later version than that please..
7.If I manage to obtain gingerbread 2.3.7DX will it self update or just update like any other phone? or do I have to remove the rom then add the newest rom?
8.Is there any known bugs for the gingerbreed 2.3.7 DX
9.Will my android market be upgraded to googleplay if I get the gingerbreed 2.3.7DX version? and will I be able to access all the apps it has to offer?
10,Is there any known bugs for the gingerbreed 2.3.7 DX that I should be aware of?
11.when I enter the call app on my xperia x8 and dial *#*#SERVICE#*#* the space I entered in just disappears and nothing comes up why is this happening? I want to check if it's unlocked or not locked.
Please answer these questions by numbers I really need help.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Most of it isn't answered..
Answers that I know...
1.What are the requirments to use a custom rom on your xperia x8 android?
Ans: You have to be rooted and have a recovery like cwm(preferred), or xrecovery.
2.Do you need to have a unlocked bootloader in order to use custom roms?
Ans: Yes and No. Only some roms require a unlocked bootloader and a custom kernel.
3.Do you need a custom kernel such as alfs kernal to get custom roms?
Ans: Answer above...
4.Will there ever be a bootloader for models in the 2012 series?
Ans: All phones have a bootloader, if you are asking whether it will be unlocked, not sure.
5.What is a stock kernel? and a kernel? And what's the difference?
Ans: All phones come with a kernel, that is the 'stock' kernel. Developers here have made their own custom kernels with improvements and more features. To 'flash' a kernel you need a unlocked bootloader.
6.With a rooted phone with xrecovery on it am I still able to get roms on it?
Ans: Yes.
7.If I manage to obtain gingerbread 2.3.7DX will it self update or just update like any other phone? or do I have to remove the rom then add the newest rom?
Ans: You have to 'reflash' the new rom and if required do a full-wipe.
8.Is there any known bugs for the gingerbreed 2.3.7 DX?
Ans: Check the GingerDX page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486
9.Will my android market be upgraded to googleplay if I get the gingerbreed 2.3.7 DX version? and will I be able to access all the apps it has to offer?
Ans: Yes, it should be.
10,Is there any known bugs for the gingerbreed 2.3.7 DX that I should be aware of?
Ans: Check the GingerDX page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486
11.when I enter the call app on my xperia x8 and dial *#*#SERVICE#*#* the space I entered in just disappears and nothing comes up why is this happening? I want to check if it's unlocked or not locked.
Ans: I have no idea, it also doesn't come up on my phone...
Thank you above person you have helped me a lot Artemis Rider
Also I want to know what I am specifcally restricted of doing and what I CAN do and I really really want Gingerbreed 2.3.7 DX and does it matter if you have xrecovery or clockwork recovery?
It is best to get CWM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119456) , you can get it by flashing the zip file through xrecovery. With a stock kernel there are still things that you can do like OC, UV etc. with DX's modules for stock kernels. You cannot flash some good roms and is not able to get ICS... The main reason for a custom kernel is for roms that require it.
PS: Just a tip... If you want to thank someone, click the thanks button instead...

Thank you so much.
What is OC and UV?
Is there someway I able to obtain gingebreed 2.3.7dx in the condition I am in?
And if I were to press back fast on start up to try and bring up xrecovery will xrecovery come up or CWM?
And can I have both?
OC: Overclock, it allows your processor to work at a faster speed and thus your phone will be faster.
UV: Undervolt, it saves your battery.
It should bring up CWM.
You can have both, just flash CWM and you will still have Xrecovery.
I recommend you to take these steps:
(Backup apps using mybackup root(free) or titanium backup(paid))
1. Download CWM 3.2.0.0 amend.
2. Flash it through Xrecovery.
3. Download GDX (http://www.mediafire.com/?vtq3dcvzlmy8zpk)
4. Flash it through CWM.
5. Do a full-wipe.
And now you have GDX...
If you want OC, flash this: (http://www.mediafire.com/?86n454in0jdzyac), then install No-frills cpu to change clock speed. Best setting Min: 245, Max: 691

just a few questions.
What do you mean by flashing it through xrecovery and CWM? Sorry I am not really familiar with the android system and such.
And I downloaded this http://www.mediafire.com/?vtq3dcvzlmy8zpk GDX version is this fine also? I downloaded it of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486 the latest one.
What does factory restore do?
Full-wipe clears all your personal data and apps. It ensures that when you install a rom, all the apps will work and that there will be no boot loops.
Xrecovery is a custom recovery that is limited to mainly Xperia phones, it is not as reliable as CWM, but is able to be install just by copying files. Some zips must be flashed through Xrecovery.
Clockworkmod is a more widely used and more reliable recovery. In recoveries, there is a function called backup and restore. Always backup your phone before flashing a rom.
Flashing is where the recovery copies to locations in the phone like the system folder. It can copy whole roms and replace files or just add 1 or 2 files. It is called 'install zip from sd card' then select the zip and 'flash' it.
And, yes the version you downloaded is fine.

So how do I flash it?
Will my clockwork recovery mode overwrite xrecovery?
will I still be able to access x recovery?
and if I keep pressing < will it go into CWM or Xrecovery? Can I change which one it goes to?
and since i have both I have the advantage of getting roms comptabile with CWM or xrecovery right?
because I have rooted and xrecovery I want CWM with 2.3.7 gingerbreed if you can provide me steps on how to do is or expand on your last post I will be thankful beyond words. I already am with the amount of help you have provided. Thank you a lot
CWM will not overwrite Xrecovery. It is installed on a separate partition and will not affect Xrecovery.
To access CWM, press the volume down button...
I am not sure about accessing Xrecovery... Press back button?
Once you install CWM, you won't have to use Xrecovery often.
Most if not all roms are flashed using CWM, I have not encountered one that is flashed with Xrecovery.
I do not think that you can change the buttons for accessing recovery.
Steps:
To flash CWM:

CWM will not overwrite Xrecovery. It is installed on a separate partition and will not affect Xrecovery.
To access CWM, press the volume down button...
I am not sure about accessing Xrecovery... Press back button?
Once you install CWM, you won't have to use Xrecovery often.
Most if not all roms are flashed using CWM, I have not encountered one that is flashed with Xrecovery.
I do not think that you can change the buttons for accessing recovery.
Steps:
To flash CWM:
1. Download the amend .zip for CWM(recommended 3.2.0.0, no problems)
2. Copy it into your sd card(anywhere).

Thank you very very much just last few questions.
Usually to access Xrecovery you spam the back button which is located next to the homescreen.
But in CWM case we spam 'volume down' button?
So after doing all of this the only changes that are going to be made to my phone is:CWM recovery installed and gingerbreed 2.3.7 DX installed as well?
Will any changes be made to my phone? if anything is changed please let me know. Will I lose anything at all?. If anything is lost how do I back it up? I didn't really get what you said with 'mybackup' sorry my english isn't too good either.
And say if the bootloader could be unlocked for +2012 models and if I could unlock it will I be ablve to get custom kernels on it and all the other benefits as well as keeping my rom and everything I have?
Thank you very veyr much in advance

Ans: Yes(For my phone, that is.)

Ans: You will lose your apps, data, contacts, sms etc.

Ans: Mybackup root is a app:https://play.google.com/store/search?q=mybackup+root&c=apps. Back up both app and data.

By changes I meant will anything negative happen to my phone except for loss of data?
I am still on version 2.1 so I still have the android market. Do I download myback up rooted version or non rooted? and this will definatly work for 2.1?
And could you confirm if the steps you posted is completely safe and will deliver what I want? (Considering I didn't screw up anything)
If I use mybackup to back up everything then get gingerbreedDX and Clockworkmod on it does that mean the phone will be the exact same as before in terms of my data still existing like loading your videos from your sd card your music, you can load your game from where you picked up on. Load your video if you only watched half the video etc.
After I have backed up my data & Applications & media do I follow your steps straight after to get Gingerbreed and CWM on my phone then all my data will appear on my phone after the last step of rebooting the phone?
Would you also recommend Titanium back up + Root?
Sorry if I am asking too many questions sometimes I just get a bit too concerned thank you very much . . I will keep 'thanking you' even though I am =D
Data on your sdcard won't be affected by flashing rom via xrecovery/cwm.
I use titanium backup to back up and restore my files and it's rather easy. Haven't used the other app so i can't say which is better.
I'm not sure about the videos playing where they left off, though. Maybe back up your video player app+ data?

Do you understand anything
Btw, i flashed GDX using xrecovery and it seems it's been replaced by CWM. I even checked my system files and there's no sign of xrec.
I also use the back button to access CWM. Weird. :/

CWM is a sort of better version of xRecovery, so xRec is of none use anymore, which is why it's deleted.
yup. cwm does work better, not to mention most updates/rome require cwm as opposed to recovery. I'm gonna go try and find out the difference.
I was just surprised cause I started with GDX v18 and it let me keep recovery.

Can't install rom status 0 and kernel issue

Hello guys,
I have a friends xperia x8 that she gave me to upgrade, i wanted to update it to minicm10 for xperia x8 or jellyblur, so whenever i want to install the ZIP it says status 0 and installation aborted.
I can't boot to android, also i tried changing the kernel to NAA or some others but i can't manage to boot, it's still the same 1.6 rom, but i can't even boot it with any kernel...
I would like to ask for some advice and maybe the stock kernel + Rom if someone has it.
Still, i want to install gingerbread or ICS/JB ...
I CAN install kernels vía flashtool, i also can boot some custom kernels with cwm and try to install...
MAYBE if i had a working rom for NAA but when i want to install the zip it says status 0 : (
Thanks guys
ggsetup.exe must be installed on your pc.. you can found it on yourdirectory:/flashtool/drivers also u must install adb driver. but before u flash a new kernel, u must unlockbootloader. see the general sub thread for it. if u have a proble "status 0" try to redownload a rom and flash with cwm recovery.

I have flashtool working at full power!, i flashed different kernels, a freexperia, naa and other versions of naa, but i can't make it work.
May i ask for a stock rom and kernel?
Oh, and... is there a way to fully restore the phone? like kernel and rom with flashboot or something like that?, because i can't turn it on
why cant turn it on? hardbricked?
can't restore expect nandroid backup..
rom & kernel, you must try one by one cause every rom/kernel will be different on other phone..

It's not hardbricked, i can see the kernel logos loading but they get stuck on boot loop.
So you tell me i have to try a ton of kernels first?...
Is there a compilant kernel that has the CWM allready installed with high compatibility?
afaik status 0 is caused by a wrong/ corrupted binary/update scritp or an error related to that.
update to 2.1 via pcc and make sure your baseband is 015 then reroot. install an updated cwm and redownload rom. use "install zip from sdcard" in cwm to flash rom after doing the wipes.
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.
