I searched and read some info about this but I'm too much of a noob to understand it. I bought a used Galaxy Tab 7" that still has the other guys gmail and Skype account on it. When I went to erase his account it said I'd have to do a master reset. Problem is its rooted and I don't want to lose the root. It's running Gingerbread 2.3.3.

Okay, before I ask this question, I did a search and found nothing. Might be down to my general retardedness.
I've been reading up a lot and I'm going to flash my phone to Froyo, 'cause Samsung are taking their time releasing the update. I rooted my phone earlier without problems and applied a battery icon mod.
Before I flash, do I need to restore the phone to factory settings? Do I lose all of my apps and contacts n' stuff? How do I back those up to make it easier to put them all back on after installing Froyo?
Any help would be appreciated.
I just bought a Tmo tab (9SGH-T849) on CL. It appears that several stock apps are missing like contacts, mail, and files. Is there anyway to get these back?
running froyo 2.2
Can i flash with stock firmware?
Many Thanks.
Try a factory reset...
Tried that. stock contacts, email, and files apps still not there. I just noticed the superuser icon, so i guess the previous owner has rooted (told me he had not).
Really would like to have the stock contacts and email app.
Thanks
A factory reset only deletes all user data and apps, but it won't put back missing things. To get a factory restore, you will have to flash a stock rom. You don't have to be rooted or unlocked to do that. Read and take your time.
Hi all, I've a very simple question: I finally decided to upgrade my Froyo 2.2 Galaxy S to Gingerbread and I'm trying to understand if I'll lose all my apps or not.
A friend of mine, who has an unbranded Galaxy S, says that he didn't loose his apps... It's not that I don't trust him, but I can't find anything on the web that confirms this thing!
Thank you for your help
EDIT: I'm going to use Kies for the upgrade, so I'm going to install an official firmware
You will keep all of your apps, but if you want to feel more comfortable you can always use Titanium Backup to make a backup of your apps.
The official upgrade process will keep your apps and data...

Those apps that you install later on? It's gonna be wipe out during the upgrade process. Usually people don't recommend backing up apps and data from different OS build (like from froyo to gingerbread)
Hi ,
I couldn't unlock AT&T Samsung captivate after upgrading to Android 2.3
I would appreciate any help,
Tnx,

Have you tried Galaxy S Unlock by Helroz from Market? Follow the directions, and make sure you put your backup data in a place on your phone where it isn't going to accidently delete it if you flash another ROM, so you can relock your phone if you have to. I always put my backup data files on my external card, because that isn't touched if you update, or flash ROMs.
I was able to root my phone using the program here. I don't remember if I had updated to 2.3 beforehand though. I recall reading that you would have to revert back to the older version (2.2) first. I'll see if I can find the source for that.
Hi, I just got a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit SHG-T599N. I have successfully rooted the phone. Well, I think I did. All junk apps that I want to trash has the Disable or uninstall button greyed out. I didn't have that problem with my other rooted phones so I'm not sure if its truly rooted. Titanium Backup is running and says it's rooted. Did I screw up somewhere or is that how it is? Also I would like to install a custom ROM. Was thinking about PAC ROM. Does anyone know which version will work or have any recommendations? Thanks and have fun.
PS I'm not sure if this is the right thread since I couldn't find one for my phone.
