advice for new modder - LG Thrill 4G

I already managed to root and get clockwork mod and even flashed thrill seeker using the instructions found here. I am relatively new to the modding scene and am confused by all the talk of flashing Kernel and Baseband. What I really would like is to get gingerbread but I dont know where to get a rom and do i need to change my baseband. could anyone explain how i could get to gingerbread or point me to a step by step instruction guide or video. I am so confused Thanks in advance for any help

You can flash the kdz file for gingerbread. I would post the link but im on my phone so I cant find it. You can check in the thrill sections.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=
This is the link for the kdz. All of the instructions are posted in the topic.

thank you very much but the link is not complete

ok I found the link and I tried to flash it but i keep getting stuck at 6% it says there is a problem with communication between pc and cell phone

I looked at your post but it was confusing for me as i dont know much.
There were two download links..one was boot loader free ..other was different one.
Can you please send me the the right steps and link for downloading
thanks
Another resource is
MobileTechVideos <- good video guides.
That being said, modifiying your phone can lead to hard bricks. So above all read and understand everything. Most of the danger is flashing bootloaders (that's why you see packages with and without bootloaders, to limit the danger). If you corrupt one of the bootloaders or flash 2 different (none matching) bootloaders you need a Jtag or UnbrickableMod service. When flashing Gingerbread you NEED gingerbread bootloaders. Once flashed you are golden and don't have flash those ever again.

i checked above forum where u helped the guy with upgrading UCJI6 to GB.
He had issues while upgrading but eventually he was succesfull.
I could not find which method he used ..
please help me if possible
Read up on how to get in Download mode and how to use ODIN (or Heimdall if you are running a none windows machine). Download a Stock gingerbread rom with bootloaders and flash. The latest is KK4, but i've never used that specific package (though it should have bootloaders) I can speak for KJ3 on that thread.
Basics.
Open ODIN (1 click or not) as admind
Get in download mode (press vol up+voldown+connect to computer
If normal ODIN use the PDA slot and select the .rar.md5 package
Hit start
Let it finish and bootup
???
profit
I'm not responsible if anytthing should go wrong. If odin gets stuck or you do something wrong you will soft brick or possibly hardbrick your phone.
i am giving up.
Can not find any links and steps which are of great help for Upgrading to GB from UCJI6.
Some are going back to 2.1 before upgarding some not.
Dont know what to do
Going back to stock is-was only used for cwm flashes. You will use ODIN. 2 way different things. Follow my steps. Or read through the tons of threads here. It isn't that hard.

he gave up because he couldnt find EXACT instructions on going from one particular FROYO build....because if he had done any actual research, he would know that it doesnt matter what version of FROYO he is on, he will need to flash the ODIN package with the bootloaders....its all covered in the vast damn posts that already cover this extensively. there was ZERO reason to fire up a new thread.
he has been linked to good info and has refused to take heed. reading and UNDERSTANDING is more important than holding hands around here.
Yes we were all noobs once and yes, you need to do your research but he's obviously nervous and not understanding what he's reading right now. Hopefully he'll calm down and understand the information he's been given. We're done here.

ICS for beginners
Maybe you should first read more about root, recovery mode, and flashing in general, because when anything happen with your device, you may have to deal with odin for example.

If you're new to this, you will have to read a lot more than one page!
Also ICS is still only a release candidate for i9000, so tisn't perfect, there be [small] dragons...
Flake x
i dont think u should flash ICS now as u r a beginner...wait for a stable release, but u can always go for the GB roms..
Good guides are available
I, being a noob, installed ICS just fine using a really clear step-by-step guide from theandroidsoul.com/android-4-0-update-for-galaxy-s-i9000-custom-rom/
Download links are included in the guide, and I encountered no major problems so far.
Just 2 more tips: if you get an error during the flashing, just reboot into download mode again and flash again and if you get in a bootloop after updating from zip, reboot into recovery mode and update from zip again, should work.

Possible way of getting ROOT + 4G (HSDPA) speed for p925 (rogers or at-t)

Hello everyone, I know post are existing in the development section for this but I think I may have a way to get 4G speed on p925(g) (rogers optimus 3d and at-t lg thrill) combined with root.
EDIT #2: If kdz flashing worked for you but isn't working anymore for no reason, please read this before asking : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22023493&posted=1#post22023493 lg effers blocked the acess to kdz flashing since their last version updater
I'm not a pro Dev but mods will be happy, before posting I READ and try to post something usefull.
As I was searching a way to get a better bb for my rogers optimus 3d I found many interesting things but all were uncomplete.
1. The LG Optimus 3d seems to simply be a LG thrill (don't be fooled by the G in P925G it seems many ppl are just ommiting the G to do shorter)
2. This post : forum.xda- developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449021
(pull off the two spaces after xda-)
Showed me that there was a working stock gingerbread ROM from Brazil that is having the right frequencies to give 4G on rogers (tested by myself and it's a GO!) and on at-t.
The only problem with this rom is that currently There seems to be no way to root it (not even the latest superoneclick 2.3.3 can do it).
So basically it's not that bad because you've got the choice of getting STOCK GINGERBREAD WITH 4G SPEED ON P925 by flashing v20a kdz (follow first link)
But many of us want to get further. ROOT + 4G is almost a requirement for a phoen to be respected according to me and many other.
So acording to the post there is 4 THEORETICAL ways to get root + 4G on a p925
1. Follow the instruction in the post, and if you're one of the lucky bast**ds for who the second kdz installation doesn't push the european bb well you're good to go but even after 5 times repeating the process the bb was always getting flashed.
2. Get the superoneclick guys craking, so we can get Root access on the brazilian ROM
3. Get who knows who cracking the brazilian or european kdz file to isolate the bb (from brazilian) or the ROM (from european) and then flash them in the according order to get a rootable ROM + the brazilian bb together (we know they are compatible since bast**ds from #1 are still getting data).
4. Install only the ROM from someone who would post an european .bin (without bb) of v21a to be installed over the full brazilian kdz.
So basically i'm widening the call for this .bin file search but I think there might be another way!!!!
I've seen phones reacting different ways when combining a froyo baseband on a gingerbread ROM.
a. the phone bootloops
b. there is no signal but phone boots fine
So basically if the p925 is doig b. it would be possible at the place of searching a v21a bin (that seems hard to find) flash a rootable froyo bin . So I'd like to know if any of you still have one of the rootable bin that were found in this post : forum.xda- developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246678
I would have already tried for myself but since megaupload closed fileserve does not support share anymore....
So if someone could provide me with
a. one of the rootable .bin file in this post :
forum.xda- developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246678
and I'll tell ya if it's a WIN or if we have to get back craking!!!
b. Tell me if this workaround fits:
1. Flash V20a brazil kdz (found here forum.xda- developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449021
2. Flash a rootable froyo .bin using this method
forum.xda- developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490
3. Root the froyo ROM
4. Install CWM
5. Flash a gingerbread rom made for p920 NOT FOR p925
6. TELL US THE RESULT!!!
BE SURE TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFORE FLASHING KDZ AND BIN FILES... I'M NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANYTHING HAPPENING TO YOUR PHONE. BUT IF AS ME YOU GOOGLE AND READ YOU'LL PRETTY MUCH ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO UNBRICK... DON'T ASK I WON'T DO THE GOOGLE FOR UNBRICKING YOU!!!
so I know it's a long post but.. I prefered to go into details and expose my point right with all the sources article
Good luck to all and KEEP ON CRAKING!!!
the guy who google for hours before posting
bapkssist
Ill see if i still have the rootable .bin froyo tonight when i get a chance if you wanna do that nd let me know how it goes cuz im curious

try that out its the thrill froyo bin
Does not work. It still restores the froyo baseband. If you delete the baseband from the folder the flashtool won't work at all.
I don't think that's going to happen yet
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
You can flash just the .bin file i thought
Thrill 4g on O3D
I couldn't it just kept saying error in the lgflashtool. With the fls and bin in the same folder it flashed but replaced the radio in the process.
Hmm i wish i had time to get on the comp and try this on mine right now

I'm going to try it when I get home, and i'm going also to try with a blank .fls file just to see if it flashes nothing.
Don't know if it's my windows 7 environment but i'm getting some trouble even before the software trying to flash... I enter the .dll file then the .bin without the .fls and when I click ok the program automatically crashes... Any idea what it could be so that I can try to flash the froyo bin over my v20a baseband?
Are you running as admin?

doahhh thanks very much trying this right nao!
No... didn't do anything... I'm getting a local environment error... :-(
Try rebooting comp and do it

Going to try the method right after a good nand backup

Now that I managed to repair my LGFlash tool.. it's my kdz utility that seems broken.... when in R&D test tool I follow instructions.. after clicking normal web upgrade test and upgrade start. At the place of getting the clear registery country choosing and everything.. I get only Lg updater to open and tell me my firmware is already up to date.. Any solution to this so I can FINALLY test my method...

LG closed that so we can't do it anymore.
OMG.... A chance I'm already on a rooted rom.. They are truly making us struggle to get good roms on this phone.. an again we are pretty much screwed to get the right baseband on our phone... If anyone finds a tutorial or anything to do so.. HELP!!

Weirdest Brick'd Situation! Help Needed!

Ok, Guys my first post here in XDA, Forgive me For any Liable Mistakes I do!
So, here's the story , There's this friend of mine Who has A Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 , OS version Was Froyo 2.2. So he wanted get all the glory by upgrading it to 2.3.3 gingerbread, And He screwed it up. I dunno to what extent , he used odin to upgrade. . and the problem here is he did it more than 6 or 7 times, now it doesn't even boot up, white screen while switching it on , and yes it is able to go to the download mode so i guess its a softbrick. .and now him getting all scared he asked me to Get it all back to normal, so i used odin 1.7 saw the How to's here at XDA followed every procedure to upgrade it to 2.3.3. And it was a Big PASS. but when it rebooted it always loops at the boot where Samsung logo appears.
now we both do not know the exact version of the PDA files to download from Sammobile firmwares as the thing is bricked! from the first place!
now , all i wanna do is either just get it back to stock 2.2 and then Follow every step correctly to upgrade it to 2.3.3 or better or Directly go to a Newer version!
without any hassle. Please do let me know if a similar thread is Availaible , cause i searched a few and i couldn't find one which legitimizes with my problem
Help is delightfully Appreciated!
Thanks In Advance Guys
My recommendation, since you can still reach Download mode.
restock using Overcome Method:
Go to overcome site
Http://www.teamovercome.net
Read the guide,
Missing pictures can be seen here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20974872
Follow the picture step by step.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have Gingerbread JQ1
You can continue with the rest, and you will get Overcome 4.1 and you won't regret.
From there you can then try ICS AOKP or CM9, all requires you to have Overcome Kernel with its CWM recovery to flash.
priyana!
I will follow that. And Update about it Alright!
And thanks a Ton For the help!

[Q] Question. I don't know where to start

Firstly, Hello. I'm somehow new. The most i've done with my phone is root it and flashed cm10 nightlies and updating.
Now, im planning to switched to an ics rom.. now, im stuck. I've been reading a lot and still a bit confused.
I am planning to get this. DjangoManouche X 1.2.1
im currently at cm10.1-20130110.
BB. LGP990AT-00-V20i-ESA-XXX-May-16-2012+0
CWM: 6.0.1.5
im planning to follow the 'how to install...' from the DM1.2.1 thread..
first it says to download AIO tools. ive done that. do i just have to follow the option 4?
the thread says install 30 based CWM.. im a bit confused, do i have to flash first the BB to 30? ive read the basebad overview but didnt see if BB 30 is compatible in my country (Philippines) (or ive understood it wrong and that any BB works on any country?)
sorry, im just confused..
so...
1.download AIO tools?
2.smartflash baseband to 30a/30b? or i just need to change partition from old to new? [all using AIO tools]
4.install a new CWM 5 or 6?
3.and then flash the custom rom?
btw, is backing up and restoring nandroid backup a necessity?
i dont care about my files or anything... i just want to get on that ics bootloader with that custom rom.
sorry if i've confused you too :crying:
OH! SORRY! ive just realised. ive badly named the title (out of all my confusion).. i dont know how to rename it.. my bad...
Go this way:
1_Smartflash an official V30A Rom (for what I know the V30B is still available only as .kdz so it's not that easy)
2_Download the AIO tool and unlock bootloader, root and flash CWM. It's really easy, just follow the steps.
3_Install the ROM you prefer based on the new bootlader
wow. thanks. those are easy steps.. my brain crashed from bad understanding of basebands. haha
thanks. will try as soon as i get back from school.
lastly, the only downloads i need are the BB files, aio tool, and the custom rom?
It's very easy! You'll just have to focus a bit on these things! Anyways, we are always there to help!
