Which apps/bloat is safe to remove? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to clean out my stock rooted rom a bit. I'm all new to Samsung and dont know what one can remove and what would break stuff and mess everything up.
Looking at a typical Samsung stock rom, which APK are safe to remove or if the list is shorter this way round: which have to be kept on any case?
Thanks in advance. Any input is highly appreciated.

The Note has many similar apps to the S2. I found it really useful as a rough guide.

Whoa, nice find! This is alot more extensive than what I was hopong for. Thanks alot!

Standard roms comes with apps made from samsung (such as your write and go, think office, social inbox etc.) Slim roms are roms without these 'bloatware' therefore making it much faster.
Hope this helps.

[Q] just purchased the Note

went from an iphone 4 to it. so far i like it 100000 times better. the screen is gorgeous. i love the layout. i was never much of an apple man myself.
does anyone have any tips? anything to look out for with the phone, things to do to help it run faster, anything really. i dont even know where to begin asking questions. all this is so new to me.
any friendly help would be greatly appreciated!
Depends on what you want to use it for. Dropbox and Evernote are must-have apps for me, and I prefer Kaiten for email.
In the themes and apps section, you'll find a recent thread with setups for making your note a great in-car tool (with a car dock home app, navi, poweramp for music, etc.)
I'm running stock except using GoLauncher EX for my launcher. Been very pleased with speed, responsiveness, and battery life, so haven't felt the need to root.
awesome. thanks! yeah i honestly don't even know what i want to hear. just looking for the full.experience i suppose
Definitely try ss, go, and Adw launchers. I switch between the 3 as they are all good. Pick up stickman golf-very addictive. And get any and all emulators

Not sure if this type of page is allowed to be linked here, but if you Google search "emuparadise" you will find the page with lots of ROMS to download.
for look & feel go launcher is my personal fav. There are so many free & paid themes available. Also, u can check out the new widgets & plugins for go launcher. they have introduced a new go power master. This has got good power profile setting options. I am getting good performance & battery life (now @ 19% 2days 9 hours).
spb shell 3d is also good, but i like go launcher better.
check dr.ketan's thread for a start.

[Q] Best ROM recommendation for freshly rooted Note

I'm buying a new, unlocked Galaxy Note next week and want to root it straight out of the box. I'm not a power user and almost the sole reason for wanting to root is simply to remove unwanted bloatware and to run the odd root-only app. Can anyone recommend the ROM best for my needs? Primary use of the Note will be for email, web-browsing and text. I never (ever!) play games and rarely watch video or play music. I currently use LauncherPro as my skin (on Dell Streak) and want to continue to do so with the Note. Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.

CM10 Kernels with Kallsyms support

Hello Kernel Wizards
I have recently switched from stock to the lovely CM10 Paranoid ROM and really miss the TouchScreenTune App in order to calibrate the sPen according to my left hand writing style.
Vitalijus, the TouchScreenTune App developer just told me, that the app relys on kallsyms support, which the current CM10 Kernels don't seem to provide.
Why has kallsyms been left out, what exactly is it and are there any plans to support it in the near future?
Thanks a lot for any explanations on this.
Best wishes

Oh yesss, thank you so much for pointing this out. This does the trick and is just perfect!
I still would like to know what Kallsyms is, which application need it and why it was left out on custom kernels.
Thanks a lot and best wishes

Hello everybody,
I´m using Paranoid ROM 3.15 an i´m disappointed about the inaccuracy of the Stylus pen. So far I know also the kernel of cm10.1 doesn´t support KALLSYMS but the app touchscreentune needs this function.
Anybody an idea to offset the inaccuracy?
Thanks for advice

The End of ME

As most of you who have read my various posts, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM DOIN.
Well, I finally did it. Kept tinkering and tinkering and I finally bricked it.
Using the Recovery vehicle I did a wipe of EVERYTHING, including the system. So now my watch says there is no operating system installed and simply boots to the Galaxy Gear logo. There is no system on the phone any longer thanks to me.
So fellas, am I done. Shall I go and purchase a pebble watch with rudimentary notifications and leave the big boys alone. I know a lot of you are saying good, we don't have to worry about him and his elementary questions any more.
If I don't hear from anyone in the next several hours for assistance I will be heading to Best Buy to buy a pebble or something that can't be modded.
Well fellas, I am asking for you guys to bail me out here and I promise there will be no more elementary stupid questions in the future
use odin to flash stock rom.... and don't mod it afterwards it's a freaking watch no need to root or install null. I have been rooting and flashing roms since 2008 and haven't had a reason to alter my galaxy gear..... no point
If you're getting the Samsung it's not bricked. There just isn't anything to boot because you erased it. BRICKED means nothing happens when you try to turn it on. Search for "Odin back to stock" and READ

Very difficult to brick the gear, calm down take a few breathes..
Download a stock rom, flash in ODIN under the "AP" option.
OR
If your using my rom, you should still have it on your SDCARD, simply reboot into recovery & reflash.
If you don't have it backed up... follow these instructions toward the bottom

All the things I use my Gear for most besides being a watch require Null ROM and root. Without it, it's be a glorified watch instead of a complete extension of my phone and tablet.

Now that you know how to get the watch back to stock, tinker away! If you screw up, you can go right back. I also wouldn't worry about bothering people with your questions. Post a question and let them decide if they want to answer or not. If annoyed by you, they can simply ignore your post.

The best way to learn your way around Android is by bricking a device or two. Don't let this be the end of your Android hacking days.

Thanks alprazolam I needed that assurance,
Fletch, I agree but for the rooting and customization I would have thrown this device away. It is this forum and the members' development and customization skills and knowledge that has made this rushed out under developed item a piece of art and a more than useable tool. Not only have the guys here brought out the full potential of the watch but they saved it from being a complete disaster.
Before purchasing this watch I knew nothing about custom rome and rooting. I had to come here out of desperation because but for the abilities of the members here I would have thrown away $300 and this watch would have been sitting in a drawer collecting dust. The guys here made this watch one of the best and most exciting pieces of electronics I have purchased. Has the learning been tough and painful. Of course. But I am learning a lot thanks to everyone here and their patience.

Yep. I haven't rooted this thing nor do I plan to. If I wanted my watch to look like my phone, I never would have gotten the watch. I would have continued to pull my N3 from my pocket to tell the time. Besides, how tiny are those apps on this thing with a custom rom? I've been buying the Note line for the screen size. I'm not sure why I would want a smaller screen. Just my 2 cents.

Amen.
I bought the N3 for a phone and the gear as a watch. And it's simplicity is perfect in my opinion. Elegant and does what it needs to.
This doesn't mean I haven't considered rooting and playing with it like all I do with all my other gadgets, but in the end, to me, it's perfect as is. Simple and clean.

You dont need to root to use sideloaded apps.. thats just a matter of enabling USB debugging.
You root so you can use custom widgets & wallpapers.. if your happy with the generic clock faces or watchstyler, by all means stick with stock
