[Q] What's the difference between standard and slim ROM? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm seeing roms with the description "slim" and I don't know what the thing with it. Will appreciate it (and of course hit the thanks button ) if somebody enlightens me.

Standard roms comes with apps made from samsung (such as your write and go, think office, social inbox etc.) Slim roms are roms without these 'bloatware' therefore making it much faster.
Hope this helps.

I9000, Voodoo Vs Hardcore Kernel...

Which Kernel do you prefer for your I9000?!?
Pro's and Cons's, why do you prefer?
this is a quiz?
So don't be lazy & look in their threads

Which would you prefer/use for your Linux setup?
Debian
Ubuntu
Pro's and Cons's, why do you prefer?
For your sake, please don't try to drive a wedge between developers. We have far too many of that already... :speechless: :sighz:

i prefere SPEEDMOD KERNEL coz battery life is very good .VOODO KERNEL hve used it for long time battery draines very quick
Will be an interesting discussion, please proceed.
But hardcore will win this poll though, he puts out a lot more updates then SC.
I don't think voodoo does a great job, yet I never used speedmod... I use setirons cause of the high overclock.

I used Speedmod but without lagfix.. using lagfix with Speedmod, I experienced a lot of problem. EVERYTIME I disable lagfix it will always stuck. I'm using it coz of less battery drain.
But if I want to use lagfix i'll go to Voodoo. much more stable using lagfix.
I prefer the flames about gnome vs KDE, are much more funny.
really, in development??
speedmod +1
Why not Voodoo? because speedmod works for me... too lazy to move to Voodoo...
That's well said mate, we need try them & judge later
The devs were more than generous with us

Yes, I agree. It's our luck that so far hardcore, supercurio and others involved in kernel mods have been discussing with one another, unlike err... you get the drift....

Better still, why not we compare about customized roms instead? Would be a more interesting discussion than this!

There is competition either way, whether or not we have this thread.
This thread might actually make them work even better. Dont see no problem in that.
From playing with both mods... they run at almost the same speed... voodoo might be a little bit faster...
Speedmod does have more configs tho... so i refuse to vote for just one.... i vote both! lol

We know very well both developers are working hard to improve their kernels. Hence, there is no need to have such a thread at all.
It is precisely everyone tastes are different, and more often than not, people will try to enforce their opinions on others, resulting in a hostile environment. It will degenerate into something that might even pisses the devs off, so to speak.
The best way of course is to try out what is being offered here, does it meet your own expectation or not.
Once you are happy with whatever you have, then stick with it, until perhaps something better comes along the way.
Don't you agree?

YES indeed I do....
I don't see how asking people's opinion on two products would cause a problem.
As far as pissing someone off, I think that when someone creates something that is made public, they should accept all comments on that product, good or bad. If they do not want to hear anything bad about their product, don't make it public.
Besides, constructive criticism is good for competition.

P.S. I use Hardcore's colonel because it was the first one I came across.
SpeedMod, better battery life, performance great. ( NO LAGFIX)
Voodoo, Uses more battery, but better lagfix.
Anyway bouth kernels er great, thees guys do a really great jobb, really profesional work.

CM10 Kernels with Kallsyms support

Hello Kernel Wizards
I have recently switched from stock to the lovely CM10 Paranoid ROM and really miss the TouchScreenTune App in order to calibrate the sPen according to my left hand writing style.
Vitalijus, the TouchScreenTune App developer just told me, that the app relys on kallsyms support, which the current CM10 Kernels don't seem to provide.
Why has kallsyms been left out, what exactly is it and are there any plans to support it in the near future?
Thanks a lot for any explanations on this.
Best wishes

That may not be exactly what you need, but it works for us lefties. IMO, it works better than touchscreentune.

Oh yesss, thank you so much for pointing this out. This does the trick and is just perfect!
I still would like to know what Kallsyms is, which application need it and why it was left out on custom kernels.
Thanks a lot and best wishes

Hello everybody,
I´m using Paranoid ROM 3.15 an i´m disappointed about the inaccuracy of the Stylus pen. So far I know also the kernel of cm10.1 doesn´t support KALLSYMS but the app touchscreentune needs this function.
Anybody an idea to offset the inaccuracy?
Thanks for advice

One thing you MUST understand is that no ROM is perfect - the best ones have bugs too, so dont expect too much. However this ROM is quite good as an IOS ROM, though after a while you get bored with it. But whatever the case, it is quite a good ROM , few bugs only
So I would suggest it is a good ROM to use.
PS This is for your blog, isnt it? It is a handy guide
Press thanks if i helped you.
Thanks

Here are the xda links for Idroid v1.2.2 and v3 - You can try out both and see which is better.
And also reading the comments is very useful in finding out the pros and cons of a ROM
Enjoy
You should test what you find not put others to do it!
Thanks

I tried but it's not working. The lock screen is getting out of the screen horizontally hence not able to unlock the phone. Thanks for your reply.

[Q] Would this even be possible?

I really dislike the fact that the Note for has a very cool (I mean, it makes my slightly cool iPad look warm..) screen calibration. Is there anyone who'd even know how to add this to a Kernel for CM12? (not stock touchwiz) would be cool to warm it up a touch and get that eye hurting blue under control (I know it's not that bad for most, but I'm really sensitive to minute details like that.) Figured I'd at least ask. Also, I'm working on my first "custom" ROM. Essentially I want to bring back some of the helpful features that touchwiz offers within CM12. QUICK SOMEOME SCREAM! Haha I know the point of CM12 is to get rid of that, but the point of AOSP is to enjoy open source freedoms. So far I've gotten a few stock apps running as well as some other customisations

I know of many apps for that. The issues with apps is that they run on top of the system. A kernel tweak would give you optimized adjustments. Essentially setting the display natively vs actively updating it. I hope this makes sense. I had an app that did that, but the constant running meant that it inherently caused the system to be stressed more. (Now this app could do much better, and please let me know if it does, but the app I had used an unnecessarily high amount of RAM for what little it was doing.) In my mind it would be simpler to just warm the display up natively from the kernel. Also (Full credit to whoever did it) I would be able to post the ROM file already modified like that without needing to make that app a system app.

Samsung screen mirroring

Hello everyone in the community, I hope that someone can help me with this. I am happily swapping out custom roms ( a big thank you to all the developers! ) with stock roms to test which rom suits me best (they're all fantastic and unique by the way :good: ) but the one feature I do notice that is missing is the "screen mirroring" option. I love that feature as I can screen my phone to my smart tv and virtually do anything without the need for a wi fi connection (something I don't have at the moment). Is there any way to install this also on custom roms?

I can't speak much to ROM-based mirroring. I found another solution entirely:
O's said:
I bought a ScreenBeam Mini2. It works great. Connects in seconds through stock Smart View on MagMaNX ROM 2.0.1. Only complaints: Weak range -- phone has to be right by the dongle. Also, phone screen has to stay on for video (but can turn off for music), so I always feel like I'm overworking the display (and it can be a bit distracting if the phone's in sight). But I'm satisfied with it. After all, it works.

Welcome. That's an old post, so I should update that I've had better experience with it as I used it more. Clean-flashed other Marshmallow/Oreo/Pie ROMs, and they all held signal even when I took the phone into the next room (with no walls). There might be a newer version now, and it looks like similar devices have popped up, too. But that one still works just about perfectly for me.
